Sarah is the most awesome supervisor, she took my order and helped me choose between the gluten-free and cheese free items. I ended up ordering a beautiful salad with mango and jicama, and a side of salmon. I'm going to take it home and eat it and I'll come back and review the rest of it! After eating the takeout food tonight, I have to remove one or 2 of the stars because the why was way too overcooked and so it was salmon! The service was great but the food is barely mediocre. I spend alot of time in the AV area and frequent the RenaissanceClub. While I've eaten here for breakfast and dinner, I prefer it for breakfast. There is usually a table open for immediate seating, the servers are attentive, and the food never disappoints. Food & Drink - 4* For breakfast, they offer fresh orange juice, it's so good! If you're feeling a little edgy, spring for a Bloody Mary. I've tried many of their options: Carnitas Benedict, Classic Benedict, Egg White Frittata, Avocado Toast, Farmer's Omelette, Chilaquiles, the Classic breakfast, steaks and eggs, and the list goes on. I tend to like the lighter options more, but none have disappointed so go with what you're feeling. Of the bunch, I would say if choosing just one, the Farmer's Omelette with bacon! Service - 4* There has only been one instance where it took ages to get sat and my order placed so I'll consider it a fluke of the many days and visits I've had here. I think they were short staffed that morning. Cost - 3* The options are a bit overpriced, but it isn't outrageous. Some items seem to make sense while others have you scratching your head. The portions are all pretty well sized. Overall - 3.5* This is a good quick go to for anyone visiting the fitness club or staying at the hotel. Go for it! read more

Blown away by how delicious the food here was. We stayed at the hotel for my son's soccer tournament and inevitably ended up eating here. The food was fabulous! We are members at this club so we are here more often than your average hotel goer. Their menu is solid and the prices about what you would expect from a hotel restaurant. There are definitely some things better than others. We pretty much always try to come when Taylor is working because she is so fun and a joy to have as our server. She recognized us after just a couple trips and ever since then it has turned into a part of the dinner experience we look forward to. If you're looking for a relaxed atmosphere to have a drink and eat some food, this is a pretty good spot, especially as a club member and being able to drop your kids for child care while we try to have a casual date night. Sam, our bartender, was awesome! We had the Margarita flatbread that he recommended, and it was very good. Light, thin crust with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar on top. My margarita was one of the best I've had! We also got the Cinco de Mayo special (crispy chicken tacos). They were delish but contained very little chicken. I live in the neighborhood and stopped in after a few errands and shopping hoping for my favorite Butternut squash soup. It was late..almost 8 pm and now Citrus Grille has industry night once a week and stays open til 11. I ordered off the regular menu and the food was great. I sat at the bar and the service from Maddie, the bartender was excellent. I haven't been here in a while and was happy w everything.. there was a DJ tonight which was kind of a nice alternative to the college bars in the circle. Marriott seems to consistently produce average dining and hotel experiences. We've been to Citrus Grill twice recently and probably won't go back. The first time was decent due to a musician on the patio. But the service is severely lacking, even when they weren't busy the second time. Our server never came back to ask how our meal was but I did inform the host when he came by to pick up the dirty dishes that had been sitting in front of us for 15 minutes. He was very gracious but it was a little late. The food leaves a lot to be desired. Apps like flatbread (try the Buffalo Chicken) are good but the entrees need work. My salmon was fishy and the mashed potatoes were hard. And the cheese on the hamburger wasn't even melted (like a fish sandwich at McDonald's). Drinks and apps by the fire are nice but don't expect a great meal. read more

I'm a member of Clubsport and have tried Citrus many times. The service is consistently extremely slow or nonexistent. Most recently I sat at the bar and nobody was behind the bar, nobody walked up to greet me, and I sat there for more than ten minutes with zero acknowledgement I was there. When I got up I finally saw a worker from the smoothie counter on the opposite side of the bar and asked the girl if the bar is closed and she said no, there should be someone shortly. I told her I'd been waiting for over ten minutes and it's then the guy working the bar area walked over to me. I think he was sitting at a table with his friends or coworkers behind me but I'm not sure. What I do know is he was quick to approach me when I said nobody acknowledged me for over ten minutes. So he asked me if there's anything I need...really?! I told him yes, I needed something over ten minutes ago but now I'm leaving and walked away. This was my last attempt to dine here. I won't go into the many other times I was here and very disappointed with the service. It's a shame because I'm in the club several times a week and would dine here frequently if there were ANY service. read more

Update: The hotel general manager Heather contacted me to further discuss our experience and she mentioned that she will discuss with the Director of Food & Beverage to improve their service quality and service wait times. I really appreciate for the reach out and their willingness to improve because we would like to come back here. 1) Food - we ate breakfast and evening snack here. Breakfast - Carnitas Benedicts were really good. The salsas in the egg Benedict is spicy. Two farm fresh eggs were terrible. I ordered my hash brown and bacon to be extra crispy and they just gave me regular. So I asked them to fix them up. When they came back, hash brown was still soft and only crispy and burnt on the outside. And the bacon came back as Jerky!! Not crispy but chewy, hard and burnt Jerky! I was surprised that this is the restaurant inside the 4-star hotel and they can't even make the classic breakfast right. Very disappointed with the breakfast. Evening snack - chips and guacamole was ok. We asked for more lime slices to add more lime juice into guacamole. The burger flatbread was amazing - it's a 5-star!! The sauce, the meat and the cheese!!! If you like your flatbread crispy like me, make sure you order them to be crispy coz their flatbreads come soft. 2) Service - we had our breakfast on Friday 10/21/22. The morning service was terrible. There were only 5-6 tables and not busy. But we ordered ours at 10:15 am and we got the food at 11:15 am. Luckily, we were on our easy chillax vacation and no need to be at anywhere. Our male server also forgot a lot of things. We ordered a coffee and an orange juice to start off with and didn't order any food. He came back with the orange juice and forgot the coffee . Then when ordered food, I requested my hash brown and bacon to be crispy and he forgot about that too. And he totally forgot about our toasts. But he is nice all along. Our evening snack service on Thursday 10/20/22 was excellent. Everything came out as requested - flatbreads were really crispy and they taste so amazing!! But the wait on the food that evening was also long and it was only 3 tables. 3) Environment - oh the outdoor environment is just perfect! Especially for the evening, we sat outside and they turned on all the gas fireplaces which was romantic and kept us warm. The music was just right for the vibe too. Indoor tables are sticky and there are crumbs all over the chairs in the morning. They don't clean them at all. There was no music in the morning. Overall, I recommend this place for the dinner. But the wait for the food is quite long so if you were in a hurry, you may want to think twice. read more

Our family are resort members and used to eat here at least once a week. The food and service have dropped dramatically in the last few months. We are so disappointed about this because this was a part of why we joined. The service is slow and uncaring. The food quality has also dropped. So we excitedly tried this place for the first time as we are new members to the renaissance club and made sure to get the upgraded gold membership so that we can get the added perks like dining discounts at the restaurant. So the food was pretty good. Lots of healthy options....the downside of this place is the service. I literally had to get up and get my own iced tea refill after being ignored when I asked for a refill. Not sure if the staff being assigned too many tables, but our waitress, Haley, was MIA most of our dinner. Probably won't be back again and I may end up downgrading my membership. If you've visited the Marriot hotel or are a member of Renissance Club Sport, you've likely seen the expansive bar directly upon entering. They have 4 TV's for sports or news viewing & 9-10 bar stools lining the bar. There are also lots of tables outside under a covered patio with a large fire pit & pool view. As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see that there were at least a few options that didn't require a modification. I enjoyed the Margherita, which is a toasty flatbread, accompanied by basil pesto, fresh Buffalo mozerella, Thai basil, tomatoes, & a balsamic reduction. 10/10 for portion size, freshness, amount of toppings, & flavor. My husband enjoyed the Laguna fish tacos, opting for fried over grilled. Piled on top of three crispy flour tortillas were perfectly breaded fish, oregano lime slaw, jalapeño tartar sauce, red onion & buttermilk ranch aioli, accompanied with fresh lime & a side of salsa. Surprise! A Taco Tuesday spot conveniently located right next to a gym. Whoever came up with this idea is an evil genius. This place is located inside the Renaissance Hotel/Gym. It can get pretty crowded on a Tuesday. But they have indoor seating, as well as a very nice outdoor patio where you can relax by the fire pit. The taco station is usually outside, but when the weather isn't that great, they move it inside. From 6-8:30pm, they have $1 tacos! They are small street tacos, but you can eat 4 or 5 of them and be more than satisfied. Plus, the taco guy is really nice and most of the time will toss an extra taco your way. When you're ready to order, flag down a waitress to buy tickets and then head over to the taco station. You get your choice of carne asada, chicken, carnitas or vegetables. My favorite was the carnitas, it was very moist and flavorful. You can also pile on as much cheese, salsa and other toppings as you want. A cool spot to hang out with friends and have some food. The only thing that would make it better would be if they had Taco Tuesday drink specials. read more

A good bonus was their omelette bar, so I did vary that at least. Seating is quite limited, in fact very small. You had to use the main restaurant, bar, and outside patio to find seating. The drink prices are reasonable for a hotel bar and sat outside most late evenings with their fire pit on. That was nice! Their cocktail lists was quite good, and really liked their strawberry mule drink. They do have happy hour but can't recall what the deals were. First time eating here. I ate here since I had just finished working out at the gym and wanted to get a nice healthy meal in post work out. I decided the try the steak bowl since it was only about 500 calories. I really enjoyed it, I would recommend it if you're trying to get something healthy. I loved the outdoor patio and fireplaces set up. Perfect for a summer night. They also have a nice taco Tuesday here I'll definitely be giving that a try next time I'm here. Love this little modern hotel restaurant n lounge. We'v had lunch and drinks here for a few times. I really enjoy the lay back vibe, so relaxing. We had a few small plates last time, Ahi tuna tower, Edamame hummus, fish tacos, they were fairly delicious. The drinks are always strong, bar area is good to watch sports, patio lounge area is good for late night hangout. Servers are always so fast and friendly. We came into Citrus Fresh today after not eating there for a couple of years. We used to frequent weekly but stopped going due to the changes in the menu and subpar service. So we gave it another chance and were again disappointed. We ordered Flatbread pizza, Cauliflower bites, edamame, fries, a giant pretzel, salad, and a couple of other items. They don't really have many healthy items if you prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan fare. The cauliflower bites were breaded, the edamame had a thick greasy sauce, the fries were gross, and the pizza was cardboard with some greek sweet vegetables on top. Anyway, it's still a disappointment. They need a new chef, menu, management, and direction if they would like to get back to the local crowd that used to frequent this place weekly. If they are only catering to hotel guests who are tired and don't want to drive anywhere, it's probably passable. There are a lot of bad reviews here and its management seems to reply that they will look into it, it's obvious that these are empty promises and a lack of conviction. read more

Came in a Friday evening after checking into the hotel. It was after 8 pm and the place was quite busy. The restaurant is really modern, colorful and super convenient when staying at the hotel. We were seated at a table due to all the booths were taken. The menu here has many entrees that have less then 485 calories if your watching your figure. For starters I ordered the Fiery Chicken Sausage Flat Bread -less then 485 calories made with Herbed ricotta cheese, balsamic glazed onions and roasted tomato sauce. This was exceptional and had a nice kick of spiciness. For my main entree I tried the Fish Tacos - Oregano lime slaw, salsa fresca and jalapeno cream. The plate included 3 huge sized yummy tacos which I could only finish two. Fish was crisp on the outside, hot and had no fishiness flavor at all. I also tasted the Jamaican Picka Peppa Chicken... really tasty and less the 485 calories too. The healthy alternative entrees at Citrus Fresh Grill along with the nice atmosphere and friendly service will bring me back again. read more

I spent a weekend at the hotel, and I was expecting to eat at a new place for each meal. For the most part, I usually only try the onsite restaurants once. Citrus Grill managed to keep my attention during my entire weekend stay. I didn't eat anywhere else. The Grill is the first thing you see when you walk into the hotel lobby. You're greeted by their bar and spacious open floor seating. For those who enjoy the breeze, the patio is also available with multiple fire pits and comfortable couches. Simply walk in, seat yourselves wherever you like, and a server magically appears almost instantly. Service is pretty amazing here. They've managed to balance quick service with a genuine interest in their customers. They struck up conversations without making it feel like it was part of their job to ask. Atmosphere, it doesn't really feel like a restaurant. It's very laid back with a pool-side lounge vibe. The food! After 4 meals at this place, we tried a good portion of their menu. There were some items that were just okay, but the hits more than made up for it. Sadly, I don't have pictures of everything we had, but I can tell you what we enjoyed. From the app section, get the pretzel! Just do it. We did it twice. The cheese platter was just okay. We were expecting more soft spreadable cheeses, but there was only blue cheese and 3 hard cheeses. From the burgers, the Diablo was delicious after we pulled the pineapple slice out. The Clubsport was really good if you're looking for a solid classic burger. From the flatbreads, we tried all but the Italian because of $5 flatbread Fridays. This section is a pass from us. It's okay, but other things are better. From the specialty section, the poke bowl was decent but nothing too memorable. Dessert is off menu, so don't forget to ask about it! We are new members. My husband works for UST Global and we went to the bar. Our first bartender, I wrote the name down but couldn't find it but he was from Morocco, and he was cold and acted Like we were a problem. We were almost afraid to ask for anything but we saw a completely different person to people he knew. Clearly, he thought we had no value. We didn't even want to ask him for anything which is ridiculous and disturbing. My husband is very kind but he sensed it as soon as I. Finally, Will came In and we really didn't want the Moroccan guy to wait on us. And, we spoke to others that thought the same. In fact, it wasn't unusual. He should be in another industry and based on what we understood, which we know management has to have known. This needs to be corrected or he needs to be gone. That's the last thing I would want but it appears this is his norm. I will not allow him to wait on me again. Now Will rocked us. We would call on him instead. He was personal, attentive, kind and did his job. He had a personality. How do you allow this crap To happen? My husband will let UST Global know. The Citrus Fresh Grill is located inside the Renaissance Club-Sport Hotel lobby so it's smack dab in the middle of a hotel resort spa. I had warned her about the age range because I stopped in before on cinco de mayo and abruptly left. The drinks menu start at $11 for cocktails. Both Vanessa and I tried the strawberry mule. It was fresh and tasty but as she noted, lacking in the alcohol. Maybe it's supposed to taste like juice? The patio doesn't allow kids after 6 pm which is great if you don't have any or don't care to be around someone else's children while having a drink or dinner on the patio. The inside is packed with cafe style tables and chairs which don't look the least bit comfortable. There are a few booths and bar stools at the bar. I haven't eaten here yet but the service is slow on a Friday night. We happened to stop in just as the Friday night band was finishing up. I guess people were in a rush to leave at 10:45 pm. It's strange to have the patio next to the Olympic-sized pool where people swim in the lanes. I guess it would be different if we were in a city like Las Vegas where this would be the norm but this is Aliso Viejo and it's just plain odd. Over-priced but I guess this is what you find behind the orange curtain. Shane D. mentioned in his review that the entrees were 485 calories or less, I'd be interested in checking that out since I love Seasons 52 and their menu. There are fire pits all around and also of the swimming pool. Their happy hour is Sunday-Thurs 4-7 which includes drink specials and $5 appetizer choices. Also, they have a special every day of the week. Monday-Ultimate Club Burger Mondays (Build you own burger 12pm-12am) Tuesday-$1 Taco Tuesdays (5:30pm-8:30pm) Wednesday-Wine Club Wednesdays ($5 glass of wine for wine club members) Thursday-Prime Rib Thursdays (Prime Rib with salad and sweet rolls for $15.95 5pm-10pm) Friday and Saturday-Live Entertainment (Starts at 7pm) Sunday-Stimulus Sundays ($5 off your bill $20 or more) On the Monday I came here, they had a burger special with fries all for only $5.
