Also, yes, they were generous to provide a free shuttle service from your parking spot to the entrance in a golf cart, which we really appreciated because we didnt have to walk in the heat, which is the obvious alternative. The tickets are a great price, especially knowing that it ultimately goes back to help the animals. Some people seem to be confused on the nature of this establishment. It is not a traditional "petting zoo" -- its an *animal sanctuary*. (Which is well disclosed everywhere, if you just take a moment to read a little bit, you'll clearly understand that). Their whole point is to rescue farm animals from cruelty and *slaughter* -- so it seems like common sense that a place that literally rescues farm animals from being slaughtered would also, of course, oppose slaughter and therefore, support veganism. Not complicated to comprehend if you just think it through a little. Obviously, it wasnt forced anyway -- it was just offered incase people were interested. No pressure. All of the volunteers we encountered were incredibly sweet and knowledgeable. You can tell theyre genuinely passionate about animals. They enforced the boundaries of the animals well, while keeping things fun and safe for everyone. Awesome facilities, very clean, and well planned. We arrived to find parking along a busy highway (?!?), with golf carts shuttling visitors to and from the entrance, just a few feet away from cars whizzing past. That was weird. Then we got to the sort of holding area where they keep guests until their reservation time. Before we went in, the owner came out to greet us...sort of. She gave us a basic history of the place, but before she did, she wished us "happy pride" and told us all about how virtuous she was, as if everyone should be celebrating? Weird and inappropriate to say the least. The last thing she did before allowing us the entrance we'd paid handsomely for, was to lecture us about becoming vegans. Which is one of my biggest pet peeves about vegans to begin with. Then she stood at the entrance and offered everyone literature on veganism as we walked past. I declined. Wholly inappropriate, offensive and off putting. I didn't pay to be lectured about something I disagree with. It was nice to (finally) see and interact with the animals, but some of the volunteers were too much. I understand they're used to dealing with idiots every weekend, but some of the instructions they were giving were flat out dangerous, like having babies (maybe 18 months old) feed carrots to grabby, nippy horses. Bad idea when little hands aren't any bigger than the carrots. Most (not all) volunteers were just a bit too power trippy and under-educated for my taste. I will say the facilities were pretty clean and appeared well kept, but the horses and donkeys were filthy and in dire need of grooming. Give your visitors brushes and curry combs and show them how to brush the animals. Win-win for everyone. It was nice to hang out with the animals, but most of the people I could do without. Probably won't be back again.

Quail Run Ranch is a unique and one-of-a-kind ostrich farm that is basically out in the middle of…read morenowhere. You might not realize how huge and dangerous some of these birds really are, but they average about 9 feet to 12 feet tall and from 250 to 350 pounds. And, they can be quite deadly. During the mating season, the males will instantly try to attack you if you get close. They've got about 6 to 10 different ostriches in separate fenced off areas. If you pay a few dollars for a tour, they will walk you down and show you the different ostriches they have, as well as provide some pretty interesting ostrich facts. Their feet are crazy as they are the only two toed bird on earth. Looking at them it is easy to see how they are related to dinosaurs because it looks just like a dinosaur foot. You can also buy ostrich eggs if they have them available, which are equal to about 24 to 36 eggs. The flavor and consistency is actually pretty good as well and very similar to chicken eggs. They also sell honey and a bunch of other things. Also, in certain times of year, you can go and see the baby ostrich chicks that they raise. If you're feeling adventurous, this is definitely worth a trip, especially if you have kids. This has become a fun stop we started making on our annual visit to the California Poppy Preserve in Antelope Valley. I would call ahead and see what's going on with tours and everything else. Five stars.

Alternative filming locations are always needed because the studios don't always welcome sequels. Like Rob Zombies House of 1,000 Corpses was filmed on a studio lot but the devil's rejects was filmed here, because Universal was a mite unhappy with the first film, so they were less than delighted to welcome its even grimmer sequel back to the lot. So the alternative filming for the sequel was here. The Firefly house was recreated and Charlie Altamont's 'Frontier Fun Town' was also filmed here, on the Western street set, which sadly burnt to the ground in the sands fire. A fun fact: The 'Kahiki Palms Motel', where Banjo & Sullivan find themselves at the mercy of Otis and his crazy family, is Club Ed, 42848 150th Street East on the southeast corner of Avenue L in Lancaster, about 70 miles north of Los Angeles. A cool spot to take a drive if you're up for it. Other shows filmed here were "The A-Team," "24" wonder woman, Bionic woman, The green mile, parts of forest Gump, no country for old men, and the 1993 movie "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" to name a few. There's a rich history of movie, TV, and music video's that have been filmed here. There has been plenty of musicians that have graced this ranch and filmed their videos like: Michael Jackson, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Korn, Seether, Evanescence, Within Temptation, Taylor Swift, Sia, Creed, U2, Tupac and Dr Dre, Willie Nelson, and the Doors to name a few. Was up here for a small part in a TV show to air next season. It was a good (very hot) long day of…read morefilming. Met a lot of fun interesting people--lots of hard working professional people in production, in makeup and wardrobe. Like a larger studio lot, they have homes, a downtown area, and courthouse for filming. Don't wash your vehicle before coming here, because you will need a car wash afterwards for sure. Once you turn off the 14, it's all dirt for a mile or so and they are required to wet it down during production days to keep the dust from flying around so you will also be driving in some mud that will gunk up your tires and wheel wells. If you have access to PU Truck or Jeep type vehicle--that is best but not required. Everything is dirt here except the actual sets. I had to clean my shoes a couple of times during the day to get the coat of dirt off them and make them shine again. Have on sunscreen if you are shooting outside because there is not a lot of shade. Also there are no services at all off the 14 Exit so plan to get what you need off Interstate 5. Sorry my contract prohibits me from taking photos here--wish I could.
