What it is, however, is authentic and true to its history and its location. No TV, no cell service (at least not if you have AT&T). Hardwood floors, viga ceilings, kiva fireplaces. The floorboards may squeak and the beds may too, but if you just will allow yourself to settle into the spirit of this place you will find some mighty fine relaxation. And for that you may need to spend a couple of nights (we always stay 5), visit the Santuario, enjoy the wonderful breakfasts delivered to your room on TV trays (muffin, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, and coffee/tea), and eat all meals across the road at Rancho de Chimayo. Rooms Uno, Seis, and Siete have outside balconies with small sitting areas, well worth the small extra expense if the weather allows you to enjoy them. Uno and Siete are on the road so if the sound of cars passing by affects your sleep, then opt for an interior room; we find the sound very comforting, somehow reassuring knowing that the working world keeps on moving while we're still comfortably tucked in. I hear a car or two around 6 or so and then promptly go right back to sleep. You will not meet nicer, more caring hosts anywhere. As an added benefit, prices are considerably less than Santa Fe, which is only 35 minutes away; we usually go into SF to spend the day on Mondays when Rancho de Chimayo is closed.

Wait for it--- No TV, No phone and No wi-fi. You were lucky if you had a bar on your cell phone. It was exactly what we needed. Wood filled the box outside the room just waiting to be burned. The wood floors crept as you walked and the tiny refrigerator held snacks and beverages. We slept like babies and woke to fresh air and breakfast to order at Rancho de Chimayo across the street. This weekend left us well rested and grateful for the silence.

I especially appreciated how open and considerate Ernesto was of us as a queer couple in the planning of the event. He didn't make any assumptions when it came to pronouns, flowers, or the names we would call each other as a married couple. Prior to the sale the owner lived in the house next door and personally managed the inn's daily operations. We stayed in the Juniper room and the first night was quiet, but the second we were kept awake by coyotes howling right outside the window. When we entered our room, we checked and found the following: 1. There were dozens of dead bugs on the bathroom walls and all over the floors, especially next to the nightstands and next to the bed. 2. There was a large mass of black hair in the shower drain. 3. The bathroom faucet was almost completely clogged with minerals so that the water sprayed sideways. 4. The show was also clogged and only three streams of water came out at high velocity, so it was painful to try to use it. 5. The shower mat was wet and dirty, and the tiles and floor were heavily mineralized or perhaps dirty. 6. The bathroom cabinet was dirty and had some sort of residue all over it. 7. There was a 6-inch by 3-inch hole next to the air conditioner that was open to the outside. The right side of the air conditioner was also open to the outside. 8. The outer screen door did not open properly unless I applied upward pressure, and the inside door did not lock completely. 9. The bed was very small, an old-style queen, but the sheets were clean. 10. When we woke up in the morning there were mice droppings all over the floor, which is not only unsanitary but also dangerous as many mice carry hantavirus. After walking around the grounds, we noticed the following: 1. There were three-foot-high weeds all over, and the back of our casita had five-foot-tall weeds and broken glass bottles scattered around. 2. The fields around the inn were all wild and overgown. 3. The mulch in the shrub beds was sinking into the dirt. 4. What appeared to have been manicured plants in the past were now all overgown and unhealthy and surrounded by overgown weeds. 5. There was a 5-foot wide and 4-foot deep hole dug in the back yard with no protection against someone falling in other than a rope, most of which was on the ground. 6. The paved paths, including those adjacent to the main house, were cracked and dirty and were covered by leaves and debris. 7. None of the outdoor chairs had cushions or covers. There was no onsite maintenance or operations manager, and the women who cooked the breakfasts were also working as housekeepers and groundskeepers. They told us that there is nobody else to help them and that the owner rarely shows up in person. The owner attempts to manage by text message but there is no cell service at the inn - how ironic! Thus, there is no way to report problems unless a guest has enabled Wi-Fi calling and messaging. This place is a perfect example of a property that shows the failure of remote management and that lacks adequate staff to operate successfully. The one part-time person makes a huge effort to do what is needed, but one part-time employee simply cannot do everything to handle daily operations. What is needed is a full-time grounds maintenance person, a full or mostly full-time cook, full-time housekeeping, and an on-call or part-time handyman for fixing things like doors, plumbing or electrical. The owner needs to realize his failure at remote management and acknowledge that the tasks needed to properly operate the inn cannot be completely accomplished by only one part-time onsite person who tries to cook, clean, and maintain the grounds. As a result of this management failure, the facilities and grounds have become dilapidated, run down, overgrown with weeds, and verge on non-functional. I do not recommend staying here until there is a complete overhaul of the management approach.

I was told upon arrival I would have to pay an additional $50 to use the pullout sofa that is in the room. This was not made clear in any way on the booking page. $750 is not a justifiable amount for this room. We did not have consistent hot water, so twice we took cold showers. There was not enough water pressure to fully rinse my hair. A fabric shower curtain unsanitarily clung to my skin in the small shower. I woke up to find a very large creeping insect on my pillow, crawling inches away from my face. We did not sleep well after this. The bed was miserably uncomfortable with sunken areas, old mealy thin pillows, no comforter or duvet but rather a thin quilt. We were given one towel each for the two of us. There is no front desk to get more, and I didn't feel good about texting them at 6am when I needed one. There are no robes, no full length mirror, no comforter, or any other amenities that make $350 a night make sense. The grounds are cluttered with items like old milk pales, skeletons, quirky sculptures, unused picnic tables, etc, it did not feel like a peaceful environment nor reflective of the photos online. Why are all the other reviews positive? It's extremely difficult to write a negative review of any business where you've interacted with the owners directly. But I really wish I had seen a review like this so I could have made an honestly informed decision.

My boyfriend, our dog, and I ended up booking this B&B last minute after leaving another accommodation early because it had bugs (including a camel spider in our bed ). We found this place online at resnexus.com as well Yelp and stalked their website, loved the photos, read the reviews, and immediately felt relieved when we arrived. The Piñon Casita was adorable, the property itself is beautiful, breakfast was delicious, and the hosts seemed friendly. For the first hour or so I was thinking, Thank goodness, we finally found the place. Unfortunately, things slowly started going downhill from there. The first night, the fireplace wouldn't work. We messaged the hosts, sent photos, tried troubleshooting it ourselves, and eventually just gave up and accepted we'd be having a fireplace-free evening. It wasn't the end of the world, and we figured hey, stuff happens. The next day they came and fixed it, which we appreciated. Then came the washer. One of the reasons we were excited about this casita was because it included a washer and dryer. Earlier in the week we'd already spent time at a laundromat, so we were looking forward to doing laundry before our 8-hour drive home. We started a load and got a 4E error less than halfway through the wash. We looked it up ourselves, we tried troubleshooting, we messaged the hosts, we followed their suggestions, and we tried different cycles. At this point I felt less like a guest and more like the on-call appliance technician. They eventually told us the washer had been fixed while we were out hiking, so we were excited to finally do laundry. Spoiler alert it wasn't fixed. Same error. We tried again later that evening. Same issue. Then around 11 PM the washer completely shut off and locked our wet laundry inside. We messaged the hosts again because we were supposed to leave the next morning after breakfast and start an 8-hour drive home. The response that frustrated us most wasn't even the broken washer, it was being told that because we hadn't specifically mentioned on the phone that we intended to use the washer and dryer, (And she said that they don't accept same day bookings, but made an exception for us, though that was never communicated nor was this a policy written anywhere on their website) compensation wouldn't be considered. Respectfully, if an amenity is advertised, guests shouldn't have to announce ahead of time that they plan on using it. That's like asking if the shower works before booking because you intend to shower. We weren't asking for a huge refund. We weren't asking for hundreds of dollars back. Even a small gesture of goodwill $50 to $100 off the stay would have gone a long way and would have shown that they understood the inconvenience. Instead, we paid full price despite having a fireplace that didn't work the first night and a washer/dryer that never functioned properly during our stay. To add to that, there were also multiple spiders and bugs inside the casita. I understand this is the countryside and bugs exist. Trust me, I get it. But after literally leaving our previous accommodation because of bugs, it wasn't exactly what we hoped to deal with again. The next morning our laundry was still trapped in the washer. Eventually my boyfriend ended up figuring out the breaker issue himself after staff told us where the breaker panel was located. We rushed to get our laundry spun and dried before checkout, but they still weren't completely dry. So instead of leaving relaxed after a nice getaway, we ended up starting our 8-hour drive home later than planned with damp laundry shoved into a trash bag. The frustrating part is that this review could have been completely different. The property is beautiful, the breakfast was genuinely fantastic, the casita itself is cute and cozy. And honestly, if the hosts had simply acknowledged the inconvenience and offered even a small amount of compensation, I probably would've happily overlooked most of this. Instead, we left feeling like the burden of fixing the problems fell on us while still paying full price for amenities we couldn't properly use. It's a lovely property, but unfortunately the way these issues were handled means we won't be returning.

The rustic charm is everywhere from the Spanish tile bathroom to the spacious bedroom. There are chair on the front porch to sit and enjoy the court yard. Our room had an open but private back porch with more chairs. We enjoyed some coffee here before heading to breakfast, Breakfast was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. Nga was amazing. Wished we were able to stay longer. I would give this place 7 stars ( 2 bonus stars)
