Back again at the Hacienda with Viola, Ruth, and the wonderful staff. As has been pointed out both positively and negatively this is not the Ritz Carlton or even La Fonda Santa Fe. What it is, however, is authentic and true to its history and its location. No TV, no cell service (at least not if you have AT&T). Hardwood floors, viga ceilings, kiva fireplaces. The floorboards may squeak and the beds may too, but if you just will allow yourself to settle into the spirit of this place you will find some mighty fine relaxation. And for that you may need to spend a couple of nights (we always stay 5), visit the Santuario, enjoy the wonderful breakfasts delivered to your room on TV trays (muffin, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, and coffee/tea), and eat all meals across the road at Rancho de Chimayo. Rooms Uno, Seis, and Siete have outside balconies with small sitting areas, well worth the small extra expense if the weather allows you to enjoy them. Uno and Siete are on the road so if the sound of cars passing by affects your sleep, then opt for an interior room; we find the sound very comforting, somehow reassuring knowing that the working world keeps on moving while we're still comfortably tucked in. I hear a car or two around 6 or so and then promptly go right back to sleep. You will not meet nicer, more caring hosts anywhere. As an added benefit, prices are considerably less than Santa Fe, which is only 35 minutes away; we usually go into SF to spend the day on Mondays when Rancho de Chimayo is closed. read more

Chimayo, New Mexico. You hear about this little town in a big way during Good Friday. We decided to spend a weekend out of the big city and take that hour and a half drive to this tranquil place. We checked in and were given UNO as our room. Wait for it--- No TV, No phone and No wi-fi. You were lucky if you had a bar on your cell phone. It was exactly what we needed. Wood filled the box outside the room just waiting to be burned. The wood floors crept as you walked and the tiny refrigerator held snacks and beverages. We slept like babies and woke to fresh air and breakfast to order at Rancho de Chimayo across the street. This weekend left us well rested and grateful for the silence. read more

I cannot say enough about the wonderful staff at Hacienda de Chimayo. They greeted us warmly and ensured our comfort during our stay. They called after our departure to inform me that I had left my purse behind in the room. Because we were already well en route on a cross country drive home, we asked if they could mail it for us. The purse arrived before we did with all cards and cash untouched. Viola called to make sure I received the purse. This type of service and care is so special. Thank you Viola and staff! read more

If your are looking for "Santa Fe" keep driving. If you are looking for true New Mexico style you found the place. This is the slow lane, no TV, no WiFi and barely a cell signal. Turn it all off and enjoy small New Mexico. There are a very limited number of rooms around a beautiful courtyard. The rooms are huge with highest ceilings. Every room has a fireplace. The furnishings are a mix of somewhat new, classics and antique. The only real short coming was the baseboard heating and hot water took a while to get going but then again it was winter. Also the entrance to the parking lot can be a little tricky: it appears quickly on the side of the road and it can be muddy and steep - easy in a Subaru probably a lot harder in a Porsche. The five stars are based on how this places compares to similar B&B's. I comeback every year to turn the world off and enjoy the unique shops and restaurants in Chimayo. read more

Disappointed. For years wanted to visit and stay based on website. Reality and pictures and description were contradictory. Room had musty smell. The mattress on the bed had to be nearly as old as they property. Worst sleep I have had in memory. Courtyard was not well maintained with half dead trees, shrubs, bushes and flowers. Obviously you want to maintain the ambiance of the past but creature comforts are expected. I suggest to invest in maintaining grounds and in bedding. Also wifi was virtually non existent. read more

The Hacienda is owned and operated by the world famous Rancho de Chimayo restaurante located just across the street. This is a cute and cozy little bed and breakfast inn if you are passing through New Mexico between Taos and Sante Fe near Espanola. We stayed in the Siete room which was very cozy with southwestern decor. The bed is joined together by two singles pushed together which can be a little uncomfortable. Our room had a balcony view looking east towards the Rancho. There's a small refrigerator and coffee machine in the room along with a bathroom and shower. Unfortunately the rooms have no TV or wi-fi and we could not get reception on Verizon or AT&T networks with our iphones so bring a good book. There is, however, a romantic fireplace to keep warm and cuddle up by on the couch. Breakfast is catered to the rooms between 9 and 10 am. Coffee, bagels, fruit and juice or if you'd prefer they will call ahead and make a reservation for you at the Rancho with a discount. The Hacienda de Chimayo is a cute and cozy place to stay while visiting New Mexico and highly recommended. read more

Just returned from a two night stay at the Hacienda. As a life long resident of New Mexico and a retired person I could not believe this gold mine that we found. The room was wonderful - clean but providing memories of what life as like in the area 50 - 100 years ago. Grounds are beautiful and the people there, especially Norman, make you feel like family. Very close to the Sanctuario which is a big plus. A word of warning to you people who cannot leave technology behind. There is no TV or wifi and cell phone service is close to non-existent. But the moon light and stars to gaze at make that a non issue. We have decided that this is a place we will visit at least once a month always. read more

The Hacienda is an absolutely charming, enchanting place to spend a night or few up on the High Road between Taos and Santa Fe. My inlaws lived up in Ojo Sarco and this is most definitely our favorite weekend getaway. The owners also run the Rancho De Chimayo restaurante across the street, a decades-long favorite of my husband's family, and now of mine, too. The hacienda features a number of rooms, some with their own fireplaces and balconies to enjoy the remote location and amazing starry nights. The decor is, of course, very Santa Fe, and even the smaller rooms are bigger than average and comfortable. Aside from comfy beds, be ready for cuddly reading chairs and nooks, even sofas and love seats in some rooms. The open courtyard is a typical New Mexico style, with flowering plants and seating areas to share and even get to know your neighbors. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and definitely accommodating to our unique scheduling for late mornings and late nights, too. The location can't be beat. It's on a quiet residential side road off of the High Road to Taos, surrounded by homes, and within walking distance to the Santuario De Chimayo: a beautiful chapel and gardens not to be missed. And of course, don't skip the restaurant right across from the Hacienda! read more

We didn't find this Hacienda charming at all. Our room was old, rundown, not that clean and not updated in many years. The pictures are misleading- not all the rooms look that way or have nice furniture. Our room had holes in the chairs, musty old bedding (and it was ugly), not real bathroom but a pedestal sink, no counters, cheap. Like I said the decor was not rustic charm - but cheap and old. We were highly disappointed. Also, it's a "bed and breakfast" but breakfast wasn't offered. On the weekends you have to go to the restaurant across the street for half-off breakfast options? We did eat at the restaurant for dinner and it was very good but the point is the hacienda is supposed to be a "B&B" - I really wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

What a charming place to spend a few days. The staff was so friendly and the rooms are very cozy. I loved that there are only seven rooms and all the other guests seemed to get that this was a nice quiet place and they stayed nice and quiet. We weren't bothered by the nearby street traffic other than 1 very nosy car or motorcycle that seemed to need to drive past twice within a few minutes. Other than that I don't even recall having heard any other traffic. The breakfasts, brought to our room at the time we specified, was simple but delicious and did not leave us hungry. We really enjoyed having the fireplace in our room. We did notice a few things in the room that looked like they need repair but very minor considering the age of the Hacienda. read more
