We were planning our trip on the drive back to Denver from a vacation in Santa Fe, when we decided to include a walking Georgia O'Keeffe studio and Ghost Ranch Tour. This had been a childhood dream of mine. A book about her and her work was one of my first art awards in grade school. Because of that, she was one of my first introductions into what became a lifelong pursuit of art. With a ticket booked, I began looking for hotel stays nearby and found this place. Honestly, it was the only place to stay that didn't involve getting up early for a drive to meet the tour group that started in the morning. The pictures looked cute. The location was next door to the welcome center, so I made our reservations without a second thought... and, I wish I'd have thought to make the stay longer! This place was completely adorable. The property itself is so much more than the pictures. There's a local artists' gallery available for purchase, a great gifts boutique, a restaurant with that charming patio which made for a memorable evening dining experience, walking paths adorned with outdoor art, a night sky where you felt like you could touch the stars... we didn't even have one of the fancier rooms, and we felt like we were living "the land of enchantment." This is a restaurant review. Just felt like I needed to share this based on the fact that this restaurant is at a hotel. Restaurant stands on it own... I hear the inn is quite nice too. Patio seating, early fall day and a change up to order a Lamb Burger with a side of green chile Mac'n'Cheese. The Mac'n'Cheese was a winner. Lamb burger needed some additional, fuerte. What a picturesque rural hotel with lots of history and artwork! Facilities are quite clean and the employees are friendly. I saw artwork from Georgia O'Keefe and scores of other artists. Music did not disappoint when I visited. I love Van Morrison and the Zac Brown Band. I can't wait to spend a night here in the future! Absolutely terrible service! Stopped in this afternoon for late lunch and to be fair they were very busy, however we were cursed with one of the worst waitresses ever. To start, we sat for about 15 minutes waiting for someone to wait on us. When the server finally came she took our order which included beverages. We waited another 10-15 minutes to get the beverages ( not even water was served ) We flagged the server again and after about another 5 minutes finally received our tea, then we had to repeat our request for water . Take into consideration we were seated on an outdoor patio in 93 degree heat! After another 5 minutes we finally got our water. It was yet another 20 minutes plus before our food arrived. My husband then requested mayo for his burger... we waited and waited while his food cooled and no mayo, so we flagged her and asked once again .. another 5 minutes went by and no waitress, but another server dropped it off for her. By that time my husband.'s burger had completely cooled and he bit into it only find that it was overcooked ... he had requested " Medium " and it was very well done. I was long out of water by that time and waited hoping our rattle- brained server would come by and fill our water glasses, but that was a false hope. Again, we requested more water... never happened. Then, S were finished eating we waited and waited for the check ; it didn't arrive. My husband then went up to the desk to request it and she came by and snippily told him to "go back " and she'd get it. She finally did, but in a very ungracious manner. We are rethinking whether we will ever return to a place that has been a mainstay for us on our travels to Santa Fe for over 20 years! Wondering where the heck the manager was today ?? read more

My husband and I went to celebrate our Anniversary. Our experience was awful. The waitress did not bring my husbands glass of wine after about 15 minutes he had to flag her down to get her to bring it. The dinner then finally came and his salad did not, she finally brought it over after 5 minutes of us eating our meal. I had the burger which I had asked for well done and it was rare, it also looked like the meat was dropped on the floor before serving since it was no longer a patty and had been server with a chunk hanging on the side. My husband ordered the steak (which was $38), he ordered it medium, and it was less than rare. The waitress was absolutely horrible and never offered more water nor did she ask. I am sure that if our food was cooked properly and we had an attentive waitress our experience would have been much better but since we traveled specifically from Pagosa to the destination we will no return. read more

Stopped here for a bite to eat on our way back to Sante Fe. They have a lot of art sculptures for purchase on the exterior of the Inn along with a restaurant and a store within the Inn. Take your time to appreciate the art pieces. The store has a lot of great items from clothing, jewelry and gift items. We were sat immediately at the restaurant and requested to sit outdoors as it had a nice patio and it was a beautiful day. We ordered the shrimp and grits and the blue corn trout. Both were delicious. I especially enjoyed the shrimp and grits. It was so flavorful and rich. Regretfully, our service wasn't great. We ordered our drinks and food and didn't see our server again until we had to look for her to ask for our bill. It's disappointing that the service made me list this as a 3 star review because the food was amazing. read more

ADORABLE cottages! Trails between rooms have many sculptures to delight you. Some light up at night! :) A large gift shop with a wide variety of gift selections, including jewelry, art & clothing AND an AMAZING, inventive menu in their Cafe. We've eaten at the restaurant EVERY time we drive thru. SO SO SO GOOD! I always get their lemonade & they smoke their meats on- property... which SMELLS DELICIOUS! Recently we had the eggplant & ginger rice dish. COLORFUL & DELICIOUS! We've never stayed because we live too close, but if we are ever too tired to drive home, we'll DEFINITELY check in! Spent a wonderful 3-nights at the inn. Beautiful grounds, lovely clean room with all the amenities. Loved the local lavender soaps, lotion, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner provided for guest use. Ate some great meals on their lovely restaurant patio. Friendly and helpful staff who went above and beyond. Horses and donkeys in the fields behind the inn and countless birds in the gorgeous old trees. Lots of unique sculptures in the gardens. Quiet and relaxing ambiance. Absolutely cute spot. We stopped for lunch there, although the sweet looking Casitas would've been lovely to stay in as well. The grounds are lovely interspersed with sculpture art. Fantastic indoor and outdoor (dog friendly) dining. You have to try the homemade potato chips. There is an art gallery and a gift shop there as well. I can't say enough about the lovely woman in the gift shop who helped me decide on a Peruvian blouse. I wish I would've gotten her name, she is the epitome of that inn. read more

THE HOUSEKEEPING STAFF STEALS! Do not leave anything in your room! The Inn is lovely, the rooms clean and nice, the food is good. I've stayed there 3 times and never had a problem until today. I accidentally left a new jacket there and when I called "no one had turned anything in ". Which means they STOLE it. I'm so disappointed. I'll never stay there again. read more

This is a fine property in a nice area, close to recreation, and the view out our back window was nice. Also, the A/C in the room was great. Unfortunately, our room was pretty dirty. There were a great many (mostly dead) bugs throughout the room; they were on the floor, on the furniture, and on the walls and ceiling. I killed a few mosquitoes as well. There were dust bunnies on the floor, and the window sills and the tops of the head boards were filthy. Before using the coffee table to eat on, I wet wiped it, and the wipe was black. My daughter stepped on a wicked thorn walking to the bathroom. Our front door didn't close flush leaving a gap you could see through, so I borrowed tape from the front desk and taped it. Fortunately, there was a back door that closed flush. We thought the breakfast in the restaurant was okay. Finally, there was sand/dirt in the bathtub and our shower had the dreaded slow drain! read more

A trip to the town of Abiquiu when you visit New Mexico is a must. We visited with the monks in Christ in the Desert Monastery. In our way out we had dinner at Abiquiu Inn. Derrick was our smiling waiter extrodinare. He recommended the Mussels special of the night and he was right on. The sauce was best I've ever had. And I'm kind of a mussel foodie. Irene had the trout dinner, very good with 2 nice size filets. Bill had the enchilada. We all had happy bellies. Don't miss the gift shop, very nice diversified selection of gifts. I bought the lavender lotion as I used it in their bathroom. Had my husband not been with me, I would have spent much more $$!! read more

We had a large group and kudos to our waitress who had an excellent system for keeping everyone straight. The service was excellent. The food was also very good. Prepared nicely, beautiful presentation, hot. Something that was not mentioned to us, was that a 20% gratuity was already added to the check, which was fine, but none of us were accustomed to this and almost missed it. Beautiful hotel, clean rooms, and well-maintained grounds. My brother and I share fond memories of dining in the restaurant when we were kids. We chose this hotel for the Abiquiu leg of our annual family get-together, expecting to treat our 4 children to a night at a desert oasis. My brother booked through Expedia, and I booked through Hotels.com. Both booking sites advertise a pool. Upon arrival, we searched for the pool, but could not find one. I called the front desk, and the receptionist confirmed that there is no pool. I told her that booking sites advertise a pool, and she said "Sorry." For nearly $300 a night, this is unacceptable. The restaurant was okay, but 3 of our chosen dishes were not available, and the food is not nearly as delicious as I'd remembered. read more

At 2:30 there were hardly any customers, but our waitress would disappear for a long time. Our lunch ended up being two hours long with all the waiting. read more

A wonderful outdoor lunch situated conveniently adjacent to the O'Keeffe museum. We had a private tour of the Georgia O'keeffe home which was amazing and so enjoyable. Afterwards having a Al Fresco lunch outdoors was the perfect ending to a wonderful morning. read more

I am so disappointed. We've been going to this restaurant for many years and today was a huge disappointment. I noticed that every year it continues to worsen. The servers were friendly. it seemed to try very hard, but didn't seem to be trained very well. The grounds are amazingly beautiful, but the food was not very good. I think the kitchen is having some issues I ordered. Enchiladas with green chili on the side as I don't tolerate spice. They added the green chili on the enchiladas as well as seeping into the beans. There was no lettuce and tomato as the menu had suggested. They willingly said they'd bring me back enchiladas without the green on the side and they did but it took about 20 minutes. My husband was completely done his meal. The chicken inside of the enchilada was so salty. I couldn't eat it such a disappointment. The whole affair took over two hours a little too long for me. read more

Even though it's taken me a good decade (or so) to dine there (location), the Nobles have done an amazing job at maintaining and actually improving the property. I must start with this disclaimer--I do not like touristy places nor do I like to feel like a tourist when I travel. I like to have a headquarters from which to do all things touristy and to get a feel for the area. Now, as for the Abiquiu Inn, it meets all my requirements. It is quiet, tucked away from the hubub of Santa Fe which is just too touristy for me. The landscape is unbelievable and I can certainly understand why painter Georgia O'Keeffe called this home. The Inn has regular rooms as well as casitas which is where we stayed. Our unit had two bedrooms, a bath, living area, and kitchen. My only complaint about the unit would be the kitchen which was not well equipped. I like to cook while away and there was little in this place with which to do that. I'm sure they want guests to eat at their cafe which serves outstanding food. We certainly enjoyed many meals there. The staff is lovely and accommodating. read more

If you're staying at Ghost Ranch or somewhere nearby you don't have a lot of options for dining out. Luckily the food and service are both pretty good at the inn. The pancakes were good, same with the juevos rancheros (get them with both the red and green salsa, not one or the other). The breakfast tacos were good but mostly because of the crema and bacon. Order the breakfast potatoes well done - they taste amazing that way. For lunch the BLT was tasty and the fries weren't too bad. The service is good although slow at times, and if you go into the gift shop or to the front desk, expect to deal with some fairly annoying other guests or visitors. It was the only place in the area I had to deal with uppity people and it sort of takes you out of the rustic yet pleasant vacation mode. read more

I'm really disappointed. I'd heard great things about this place from people who stayed here years back. It seems to have gone downhill. I booked a 2 bedroom suite 6 months prior. I arrived to Inn and received keys to a small 1 bedroom room. When I went to question the mistake and showed the concierge the confirmation I received when I booked in May and another confirmation received two weeks prior, she kept denying that any mistake was made. She even told me that "just because you book in advance, it doesn't mean it confirms the room you wanted." It was clear to me that they made a mistake and refused to admit it. She then used the excuse that she was giving us a discount because of the smaller room but really, she gave us no discount and charged us the price of the smaller room. She then offered to move us into another room that opens the next day in hopes we'd like it better and she quoted me $170 which I thought was great because that's what we'd originally intended to spend. We go the next morning to get the keys to the room and now she charged us $180. In addition to this, the first room I was in was dirty. I attached photos Also, the pillows in this hotel were horrible. Everyone in my party constantly woke up throughout the night in pain and unable to sleep with these pillows. Also, the dining service wasn't great. The staff were inattentive, even when the place was fairly empty. And they no longer do free breakfast read more

Just a head's up if you need a comfy chair in the room. There isn't one unless you book the larger suites. However, their description says that each room has a sitting area. I inquired about the chairs and was told that there is a desk chair and a desk. Also a bench in the courtyard. As we were looking to book in February, the courtyard didn't seem too weather friendly. I don't call a desk chair and a desk a "sitting area". This is probably not important to most people but it would have not worked out well for us as we need a good chair for health reasons, one of us being unable to lie down most of the night. Folks, just take that description out of the list. If I had not inquired, we would have had a miserable night. read more

It's been five years since I last visited the inn. Still, my earlier review is accurate. There have been a few updates, including new management, new restaurant items (including liquor) on the menu, and additional rooms that are now on the premises. They also now have both cell service and free WiFi. For the most part, I approve of these changes. The rooms are still extremely comfortable and perfectly decorated with many nice amenities. It's also a VERY quiet area though rooms facing the highway can be a bit noisy at times. I love visiting here as it's a place for quiet relaxation and solitude, that an be as intimate or independent as we prefer. During my last stay, I again had a lovely Plaza Blanca King room, tastefully appointed with a gas kiva fireplace, the back of which opens onto a semi-private courtyard that is only shared with other Plaza Blanca rooms. The staff has always been extremely friendly and helpful. Both the restaurant and gift shop feature work from local artists, which is easy to appreciate. Though the prices can fluctuate enormously depending on the season, it's still worth the time to stay at this lovely inn. read more

The ladies at checkin we're gregarious and helpful. This is casita 22, in the back of the property adjacent to a horse farm. Enjoyed a night by the outdoors fire pit situated in front of the casita. The room is spacious, with a fireplace, refrigerator, coffee maker. Beds were comfy. Outside seating area in the front and back. The cafe didn't disappoint, meals were well prepared. We stayed at an Airbnb in the area...Went there for an anniversary dinner sept 6. Good food, nice ambiance, great setting. However, don't be in a hurry.....service was slooooooow - asked for silverware and refills three times. "Oh we just got a ton of to go orders".
