Daniel, Sebastians Dad is super nice. The rose is my favorite on the square, Im here ALL the time. There is also a really charming patio in the back. A must visit if you're coming from out of town.

What makes this tasting room unique is that you are getting Dry Creek wines in the center of Sonoma square. They specialize in Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs. I am very familiar with this vineyard. Before I tell you about the wines I'll give a brief history of the vineyard. Monte and Stella acquired the property and it was already producing zin and petite syrah. They initially started off selling the grapes to Mozzocco (famous for dc zins). After many years they started making some wine from their own grapes. It was a natural progression. They have great terroir and produced from it the best possible grapes they could. And now they produce fine wines from the ground up under the Rancho Maria label. Now to the Tasting Room. The vibe is nice and mellow, laid back, nice music. The décor is California mission with a pea gravel courtyard out back, bistro tables and a nice firepit. They style is reflective of their family, a beautiful mix of European and Hispanic cultures. Sebastian, the son and one of the owners, guides you through a tour of the wines with stops for vineyard history and their winemaking process along the way. You can really feel his passion for both his family and the work they put into the wines. What really surprised me was their Zin Rose. Don't confuse this with white zinfandel...completely different and so much better than it's similarly colored cousin. It is bone dry with great acidity, rose petal nose, white raspberries and citrus on the palate, with a nice minerality. I was excited to hear that they have a Viognier in progress. Not released yet, but I am a big lover of Viognier, and will wait patiently for the release. Their current release Zinfandels and Petite Syrah's are big, structured, age-able and beautifully tannic. I believe most wineries in the area can't hold a candle to the wines produced by this family.

This was our first stop in Sonoma. We walked around the plaza and decided on Rancho Maria and were not disappointed. Friendly service and delicious wines. We chose to do the red flight and were pleased with the variety. We were directed to other wineries to try which was much appreciated!

I can't leave a review unless I tap a star but my experience on Sunday, March 25 with the host was less than a one star. He did not deign to rise from the barstool to greet us and we had to approach him to get his attention. He was snarky and smug and arrogant. It was the absolute worst hospitality experience in wine country. His customer service skills need immediate attention. Owner beware - this guy is driving away business. read more

Based on the other reviews, I'm guessing Sebastian was just not in a good place/mood when we arrived. We asked about tastings and he made it pretty clear he was not up for it. Which was a bummer because it was the first place we stopped in Sonoma! read more

Wowza! What a wonderful experience! Sebastian greeted us, we were out a little late and he took the time to introduce us to his wonderful family of wines! An enthusiastic instructor of different ways to enjoy wine, the smell, the taste, basically making it an experience! A must stop when in Sonoma! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Went here with some girlfriends and the owner charged us $90 for 3 tastings when we specifically asked for their $15 tasting. We talked to him about it and asked to see an itemized list and he wouldn't give us one. He was super rude and disrespectful. This is so disappointing because this place is really cute but now I don't ever want to come back. Hopefully the owner can figure it out and get an attitude adjustment. Save yourself your time and money, don't get scammed. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. read more

This is one of my favorite tasting rooms on the square! Tre and Sebastian are both great host! They are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about wine. The tasting room has a great patio to sip the best rosé on the plaza when the weather is nice. read more

Wines were very good however too high in alcohol for my tolerance. The atmosphere is definitely fun and comfortable with the back yard being full of whimsical art and a big firepit. I took some rosé home. That was deliciously dry. read more

Snuck in here close to closing time. They were still super nice and we got a glass each of the 2011 Zinfandel, which was delicious. The ambiance is much like someone's living room and it was very comfortable. $10-12 for a glass. We didn't spend a lot of time here, but we did enjoy the little bit we did! read more

Sebastian knows his stuff. We caught him in the off season when.he had the time to discuss his passion. He is truly an artisan. And in those bottles are the works of art. If he has time, he will take you from the weather, to the vine, to the fruit, to the blend and aging. He takes his father's grapes and makes them a symphony. If you can listen to him talk about his wine and pairings, you will be lucky. And if he has the time, he will enjoy telling you about them. I just figure that this place is going to be so popular that he will be busy. During the height of tourist season, he may not have time to talk to you for long , but the wines will speak for him. read more

My friends and I discovered this hip tasting room after a birthday lunch. All I can say is that I see a return trip to Sonoma to go back! Sebastian, the winemaker, guided us through our tasting. If you like to talk wine, this is a must on your wine itinerary! We learned all about his style and technique of making wine and how it influenced each wine we tasted. ALL of the wines were excellent! If you like Zins, you will not be disappointed. Sebastian poured wines for every occasion from a summer day by the pool to a gourmet steak dinner with friends. My favorite was the 2011 Zinfandel. Sebastian really created a memorable experience for our group. He spent time with us, joked with us and gave us the family history behind his craft. Awesome! BEWARE! Had a glass of wine here with my husband. Purchased 6 bottles of wine from Tray, to be shipped to our home. Never recieved the wine. When we finally spoke to them (cc company had to give us contact info because he doesn't provide it on their website), Sebastian, the owner, promised to refund the $200. Never did. Such a waste of time, energy and money. Gave this one star because there isn't a choice for zero stars. read more

The 2011 zin (their first vintage), Rosè and Stella (petite Sirah, zin and cab blend) were all amazing! Some of the best zins we had In Sonoma! We own a winery in Colorado and were referred to this place by Jeff Cohn Cellars (also amazing), and we were not disappointed. The tasting room is cozy and inviting, Trae was engaging, knowledgeable and just simply a pleasure to talk with. We highly recommend the wines and company of this fabulous place! Have stopped in a few times. What a sweet spot in Sonoma. Out of the way feeling but right on the town square. Easy to find, park and relax once you are there. Has a real lodge type feel to the place. Upscale but way casual. Sabastian is always there happy to help and super educated and nice. Great place. Great choices. Reading these other reviews, feeling pretty lucky we happened upon this gem! This was our first stop on what was to be several tasting room stops. We never left! Sebastian and Cory were excellent and knowledgeable hosts. The atmosphere was relaxed, the a/c was pumping (HOT day) and the music was great. We loved the wine, as evidenced by staying the rest of the day. This was definitely the highlight of our girls trip. Be sure to go out back to their adorable patio with so many fun photo ops. read more

We were lured in by a sign outside that read "Rosé all day"....this must be my place! The owner was very genuinely friendly, and had passion. We each had a glass of the Rosé and it was so good we decided to take a bottle home! We were in a bit of a hurry to get to dinner, but I wish we had done a full tasting! Our visit to Rancho Maria was fantastic on every level. The wines were outstanding. Sebastian is very impressive in his skillful wine pouring and sharing. This is truly a one of a kind spot to stop in at, and definitely one of the gems on the Sonoma Plaza. Rancho Maria is a small producer of premium Dry Creek Valley Wines. The Rancho Maria Wines' tasting lounge opened in 2016. We offer a tasting experience you won't find elsewhere. My personal favorites were the garlic and sage. Even though it was a bit of a rainy & cloudy day, the views from the patio were beautiful. We finished our wine out by the fire pit outside, and now I really need to come back during the summertime when the skies are more clear for the full experience. I left with lots of olive oil and great Christmas gifts for the family. The four piece olive oil sets are perfect for that and I brought one home for my family and we did our own inspired mini taste testing (I still miss Trattore's bread tho). 10/10 recommend and yes I definitely want to come back for the summer views and this pizza oven I keep reading in all the other reviews:))

They also have it set up where you can play bocce ball or you can sit in Adirondack chairs to sip your wines. The building that they have for events is an original building. I can't remember the year, but it was 1800 something which is a great backdrop to your relaxing with a glass of wine. We ended up here because we decided to pick a random vineyard to try while we were in Healdsburg. I signed up for a tasting and noted that it was my birthday that we were celebrating. When we arrived, they had a special treat for us, a glass of their sparkling Brut which was delicious! Because it was my birthday they set us up in the tasting room in the photo I have attached which is also a special treat! The view from this room was spectacular overlooking their expanse of vineyards and Mount Saint Helena!! Tonya was amazing! She guided us through all of our tastings, which actually was quite a few at this particular vineyard. And we even got super lucky that the founders son, who now runs, the vineyard was there he even stopped by to chat with us for a bit! Another thing that I really liked about this tasting as they give you snacks to pair with the wines throughout your tasting but you can also buy larger snacks if you wish. My husband and I agreed that the Cabernet Franc and the Primitivo were our favorites! Another fun thing about this vineyard is they make and sell their own olive oil. We, of course, joined the membership ordered a case of wine and took home some olive oil! It was a fantastic day!

We enjoyed a small tour of the production facility and the very old historic building behind the winery. Tons of history here. The wines were all very good -- there wasn't a wine I didn't care for. I particularly liked the chardonnay here. The olive oil is not to be missed, either. Phenomenal. The Trione family has been in the area for a LONG time. Tons of history here and definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

We stopped in unannounced and were greeted warmly. Taylor was such a pleasure and she remembered my daughter & I from 2 years ago when she helped with our tasting. Not very often does a winery connect with visitors at that level. Says a lot about the culture here. Grabbed a couple glasses of champagne and walked the grounds to kill some time before our lunch reservation. Probably my favorite winery in the area. They are having a social hour on the terrace 3:15 to 5 Thursday thru Monday through the month of May. $10 a person waived if a glass of wine is purchased. Also small bites for purchase. Can't wait to go back for that experience.

Absolutely my favorite spot on the plaza. Rancho Maria is very inviting and has comfortable indoor and outdoor seating; the most spacious tasting room on the plaza. I also enjoy the intimate service the staff provides; they do sincerely converse with you and are very passionate about their wines. The rose and viognier is to die for! read more
