Besides the wine, let me tell you what makes Zialena great; REECE! Woooow! This man is truly something else. When I tell you that my friend and I were hooked from beginning to end during our tasting, I am not kidding you. Reece was absolutely phenomenal and so was our entire tasting experience at Zialena. After passing by Zialena several times on my trips to DeLorimier, my friend and I finally decided to check them out for a tasting. You know I have to start off with their estate and grounds. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I will always be a fan of classic winery setups, BUT... I LOVED the modernized look of Zialena! The exterior of their building alone is so eye catching and unique. And then you walk inside and think, damn this place is so chic and hip! I love the artwork, I love the stylish tables and chairs with the bright orange seat cushions, I love the youthful and fun atmosphere and vibe. It's just wonderful. Those views! I underestimated how great they'd be because you can't see much from the outside. But once you're sitting on their patio, the views seem to be endless. Countless views of the hills and their beautiful vineyards. It helped that it was a stunning day outside too. Reece set us up on their side patio which was glorious. Now about this wine; fan-freakin-tastic! I loved every single wine that I tried. All were scrumptious. I'll get more into the wines in a bit, but first I'm gonna tell you a little bit about what I learned from Reece. Although the actual tasting room is newish, the winery is a fourth generation run operation by the Mazzoni family. The family hails from Italy and they've been harvesting grapes and producing wine for years. The winery is actually named after their Great Aunt Lena (Zia Lena in Italian). Mark and Lisa (sister and brother) are the owners and they also run the winery. Zialena grows grapes for over 90 different varietals and all of them are estate grown! That's right; those vineyards that surround their property are actually their own. They use whole cluster fermentation to produce their wines which basically means that they ferment the grapes with the stems (the stems aren't removed). This allows for more of an elaborate flavor profile in their wines. They also ferment in concrete with the top open. Never really heard of open top fermentation prior to coming here, but it allows for more oxygen to come in contact which helps with faster yeast production amongst other things. Alright, let me take my geeky wine brain hat off for a second. Reece had us completely engaged during this tasting. I literally started taking notes because it was so much interesting information. But those wines, dear GEEZUS! So, so good. Their unique fermentation techniques really paid off because their wines are so rich and complex. We tasted one welcoming white wine (Sauvignon Blanc) and 4 reds which were all incredible. The Cappella Red Blend was to DIE for and undoubtedly my favorite wine of the bunch. The spices were so pronounced but yet the wine went down oh so smooth. Took a bottle of that and I don't think it even lasted a few days. Reece was so knowledgeable and confident. This man probably could have sold us the earth and we would have bought it. Seriously. So engaging and we loved it. But wow, I'm impressed. Zialena is a one of a kind. read more

Zialena is a fourth-generation family winery located in the heart of Alexander Valley in Geyserville. The grounds are absolutely stunning and are surrounded by 120 acres of vineyards.  My friend and I tried the 1897 tasting for $15. The tasting included: - A French Chardonnay to start us off, which was creamy and rich - 2017 Zinfandel - 2018 Cappella - 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon - 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon  In addition to these wines, Zialena Estate has Sauvignon Blanc, Rose of Sangiovese as well as some library wines of Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon and some club only wines too. They also offer the 1931 Tasting, which includes reserve and library wines and is $25 per tasting. Reese was the Tasting Room staff that helped my friend and I, and he was very knowledgeable, friendly and provided an incredible experience. Reese shared history about the Mazzoni family, the Zialena wine making process and the vineyards.   From the wines to the grounds and staff, everything was wonderful! I cannot recommend Zialena Winery enough! read more

They will talk with you as little or as much as you like and understand the industry, history and process beyond their own winery. A fourth generation wine family runs the property and does the winemaking. We asked for recommendations for other non-mainstream and unique wineries in the area are were given a wonderful list of other places to try. The club is second to none. This winery blew me away. They accommodated our family on our short notice, they were beyond friendly to our small kiddoes (brought out juice boxes etc), served us delicious wine paired with incredible knowledge, and had exceptional customer service. I accidentally left my sun hat there and before I even realized I had, I received an email the next day letting me know they found it and that they would send it back to me free of charge. Seriously? I can't even remember the last time I felt so taken care of. Will definitely make a point to return every time we're in the Healdsburg area. The space is gorgeous, the views are incredible and the wine was delightful... do not hesitate to visit when in Sonoma. read more

This place is absolutely gorgeous! The staff Reece and Vince are awesome, knowledgeable, warm and friendly. The Mazzoni family are equally as wonderful to guests and staff. They have an amazing selection of wines to taste while sitting outside surrounded by vineyards. You can taste the care and love that Mark puts into each high quality wine. My favorites are the Rosé, Capella and Reserve Zinfandel. I celebrated my birthday here last week. Zialena is one of my top favorite wineries to enjoy and recommend. Super cute winery/scenery located in the northern end of Sonoma county. Favorite take away was the setting of the tasting room being set quite literally in the middle of their own vineyards so anywhere you turn you see what you're drinking. Not the biggest winery so don't expect to bring 20+ people and fit comfortably. 4 groups of 4, I believe would max their staff out. read more

In my first visit to this family owned gem in the heart wine country, I was taken with the history, the innovation, the simple elegance and of course, the wine of Zialena estate wines. I had the distinct pleasure getting to meet the owner and vintner, while we took the very informative and entertaining tour. The sav blanc was light and complex and made me wonder why these guys aren't all over the world already. The '14 cab was even more pleasantly surprising and I can't wait to pair it with... just about anything, anytime. I would recommend taking their tour to anyone who likes wine and has interest in history. I think everyone should give these wines a drink. The night after our visit, the kincade fire burned all around the Zialena estate. I pray that everyone is safe and sound and that the vines and facilities are not effected. read more

Vince was amazing. He really took care of us and even gave us a tour of the facility. He was extremely patient with our constant questions. It was beautiful out in May and the weather was perfect. The wine was spectacular. The music choice was calming and enjoyable by all tastes. We had the pleasure of meeting the Mazzoni family including the adorable babies. I got amazing vibes. I don't know who else appreciates this, but the bathrooms are super pleasant to use. The toilet paper was of great quality which not only makes my immediate experience better (I appreciate the small things), but to me, it communicates attention to detail and makes me trust a business. An amazing vineyard with a great story, incredible views, and an awesome staff that truly cares about the wine and your experience. Definitely recommend sitting outside for a tasting, overlooking the grapes. We had a full tasting experience, with thoughtful details prepared in advance like our party's name on the menus and individual info cards for each of us. Our host was so accommodating and knowledgeable, and even let us try wines outside of the tasting that we wanted to purchase. There truly is a wine for everyone here, and the above and beyond service that the staff always provides is really what makes this such a great experience every time. Definitely worth a visit, so make sure you don't miss this if you're in the area - it's one of the best! Geyserville is back on the map with an amazing new vineyard tasting room with #zialenavineyards ! Their famous #mazzoniranch vineyards have been featured in the #ridgevineyards blends and are simply amazing. I was excited to see that Zialena now has their own wines to feature and enjoy! Try their rose or Sauvignon Blanc for a refreshing BBQ or picnic day. Their zins and cabs are richer, deeper and more complex - jammy but not overly sweet...and some dry earthy, cleaner palate style overtones & finish. I had pulled pork sammies that went well with the 2013 zin. I would do a good steak and baked potato with the 2013 cab. Prices are very reasonable (i bought a 1/2 case!) and worth the trek out to see them! I got a chance to enjoy their Summer BBQ Picnic night and had ribs/chicken and the fixings as well as receive a bottle of their 2013 Zinfandel (one of my faves!), 2 Govino plastic wine cups (great for picnics!), aaaaand, enjoy all this listening to Ashly Allred and her band! We soaked in the setting sun on the lawn surrounded by the Mazzini Ranch Vineyards. I can't think of a more perfect way to enjoy summer! read more

A fabulous addition to wineries in our area. Went there for the first time today for their paella wine pairing party. Our first visit and not our last. A flavorful Sav Blanc but mostly known for their Zin's - and they are excellent at a reasonable price. Particularly liked their recent release of the 2015 Zin - a real fruit forward lovely flavored wine. Brand new clean line facility in a gorgeous valley setting - wonderful servers - thanks to Connor and Reese. Great 100 year history of the family in the family.... What a fantastic winery! The grounds and tasting room are beautiful, modern and inviting. Vince is a compendium of knowledge, both Zialena's wines and the winemaking process in general. He is super friendly, generous and really makes the tasting a fun process. Last but not least, the wine...WOW. There wasn't a single wine I didn't enjoy! Starting with the Sauvignon Blanc, not usually my favorite varietal, but this was crisp, clean, with notes of citrus, melon and a hint of rosemary with a subtle buttery finish. There is no way I could pick just one wine, jammy zins, bold chewy cabs and their signature Cappela do not disappoint. Mark, the winemaker, knows how to make high end wine with depth, flavor and texture and that comes through in all of their wines. Don't skip this winery! read more

Super nice wines made right. Great wine making knowledge from our Sommelier Vinny. The Cabernets are super dense and chewy. Flavors of cloves and chocolate. The Cappella red blend had super nice strawberry-rhubarb flavors. We have tasted at a few other wineries in the area and this was the best. The Sauv Blanc had a nice melon flavor and a hint of rosemary. I know it sounds impossible but true. All the flavors were distinct and we'll rounded. read more

This place was just fun and their history and wines made for a good story I'd love to write about someday. If you're looking for 3rd and 4th generation wine makers who's family has been here since before the turn of the century, this place is for you. (And for you millennials, that would not be this past century, the one prior.) As the wine pourers gave us the family history, he mentioned how the folks hanging around the wine tasting room were from the family and the tall guy with them was the wine maker standing behind us. This was not just cool but it turned out that everyone was waiting around because one of the family members was being proposed to in the winery; just extending their family tree story. And the wines... wow. It was nice to enjoy their new tasting room with beautiful views not because it's perched on a hillside but because you're in the vineyards. And because after over 100 years of producing wines they call Coppella after their history and where their name is just the name of their favorite aunt in Italian, why shouldn't they have this amazing tasting room? Why should wineries like Jordan get all the fame for the grapes they've been producing for them? Good for them. And good for us to be able to try such an extensive selection of wines. read more

This was my first visit to Zialena and I will definitely be going back. I loved the Rose' of Sangiovese and the 2014 Zin. I usually find Rose' to he very tart but this was smooth and slightly sweet not tart. The staff was very personable and even let me try the 2019 water...lol. read more
