Absolutely terrible customer service. I've been trying to cancel my alarm service since 3/31. When I first called, I was told someone would call me back--no one did. I called again today, got transferred twice, and was told yet again that no one in the office knows how to cancel an account. Seriously? How does an alarm company not have a basic process for cancellations? To top it off, the staff I spoke to were rude and dismissive. It feels like they're deliberately making it difficult to cancel. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Avoid this company at all costs. read more

System installed by them was not calibrated correctly and when an attempted burglary occurred they charged me to replace equipment that had been installed incorrectly by them less than a year earlier. My mother had a rancho Santa Fe alarm system installed into a home she owned, over 25 years ago. I bought the home from her and the alarm system wasn't working. She had since passed away. The bill was never in my name. I have paid the bills, in her name, since she had passed away. And many times told this company that my parents are dead, and that we do not have service connected. Their technicians had to help me disconnect the service when it was malfunctioning. Years ago. When my mother was still alive. It is traumatizing to have a company continue to call and harass you send you bills for your mother, when you see grieving her loss. I'm shocked they can not note the account "deceased". I have been a client since 2002. Even had an actual burglary. I was called and the police were at my home before I was. Rancho came to my home and fixed the system that the burglar had slammed off the wall the same day. I highly recommend them. Now they don't respond to alarms and when I asked for a quote Monica came out after several calls then spent and hour of my time then never sent me a quote. I used to use a nationwide alarm system monitoring company but then I found out that they were not doing any monitoring and still charging me. A friend recommended Ranch Santa Fe Systems because she liked the service and that they were local. I had them come out and sure enough the tech was personable, answered my questions and got me set up. I like the fact that when I call I get a real person and I know they are sitting in an office in Encinitas not in some data center in Ohio. At network meetings I have met one of the owners and she is a nice and friendly as it gets. I made the right choice and there prices are good too. read more

Worst company ever!!!! If I could give ZERO stars I would! We have been customers for 20 years and had to deactivate our system due to not needing it. Little did we know it clearly was never deactivated. Called on a weekend because the alarm was going off and no code, taking out the battery, undoing wires was working. Chad answered the phone and demanded cash only for any help laughed at my elderly mother who was trying to fix it panicked and crying. I called them being hours away from be able to bring cash pleading for help and he laughed at me and said well your not a customer anymore we can't help you without cash! I offered my debit card or credit card to which he laughed again and started yelling at me what do you want me to do?! What do you want me to do? Over and over again! My mother is crying I'm panicked and still alarm is going off and Rancho Santa Fe Alarm is to blame and they are just laughing at us. He said looks like you're going to have to call Monday...thank you so much chad and Rancho Santa Fe Security you win for the worst customer service EVER I will go to every length possible to make sure everyone knows about this! read more

I'm stumped by the less-than reviews-- these guys are the best. Locally owned we've been customers for 25 years. Most recently we moved into a home with an existing system. RSF Security came out, totally updated everything, got it up and running. They didn't try to up sell us on fancy new equipment, nor diss the company who installed the system. Very professional. Monthly monitoring is reasonable. They are reliable, available, dependable, and know every aspect of the business. Their technicians (especially Ron!) are neat, patient, professional and know what they're doing. They take good care of their customers! read more

I had an expensive security system put in 5 years ago. The system malfunctioned from the beginning. I was told the equipment maker had changed parts and unfortunately I had the old parts. I've put in a fortune changing batteries over the years. Then recently I had problems with smoke detectors. The people manning the office on off hours are incompetent - these things always happen on weekends and holidays. The techs are very good but it is extremely difficult to get them. Very disappointing. Would advise you go elsewhere. read more

We have been using RSF security for the past 4 years for our 3 retail store locations and have just been thrilled with both their service and their reliability. We've had maybe two occasions where the alarm was triggered and we got a phone call immediately to check if police were needed before they were called. Extremely personalized service and at an affordable price and with none of the extra headaches of false alarms that I've experienced with other alarm companies. I write this with extreme sadness. I say this because I had some very fond memories of Rancho Santa Fe Security and those are all but gone. I was a customer of Rancho Santa Fe Security for roughly 8 or so years. I actually found out about the company through my mother who had been a long time customer who actually knew Myron the original owner. My husband use to use them as well for his law practice and we use to suggest the company all the time. I work in my husbands office frequently and we use to pass out their flyers and cards, now, no more. They use to be very customer service oriented. I found out about the company when my mother who was ill and had dementia had called in and was helped by a very sweet dispatcher named Gwen assisted a scared old lady in "finding a good coffee shop at 10 oclock at night". I was floored and tickled pink that the employee had taken the time to assist her knowing she had dementia... I was hooked... Over the years I got to know Gwen, Breezey, Mary, Gloria and Roger (night shift guy he was hilarious) and had very positive experiences. They use to answer their phones... and they use to be a local company... Fast forward to 2012. I called, I get an automated answering message, that asks me to dial 1 for this 2 for that. I hang up. I call back, I get a live person who then transfers me to the same automated messaging service. This is ridiculous what happened to Rancho Santa Fe Security? I eventually get a hold of a live human that I never spoken to, he was a nice gentlemen, apologized for the inconvenience and resolved my situation. I asked what happened to Gloria, he informs me she retired, I ask what happened to Roger, he informs me he is no longer with the company. Early 2013, I call, again live person dumps me into a answering machine telemarketing thing. I worked my way through the maze and got to service. Yes! Dee! I remember Dee! She can help me! She did eventually once we worked out the terrible phone delay we were having... Think "talking in echo". Late 2013, I get a strange call with caller ID of 0000000 on my cell phone. Of course I did not answer it... I call their line back and I eventually work myself through the phone system and when I get to my third person they tell me that the dialer says 0000000 for security reasons... yeah... right... Early 2014. I have to call again and yes! I get a live person right away and yes they are going to help me cancel an alarm ! Until... they transfer me to another person that suspiciously answers "Rancho Santa Fe ... how can I help you" Early 2014, I get another call regarding an alarm. This time the number 8006621711 comes up they leave a message tell me I have an alarm. I was out having lunch with my girlfriend and her daughter. Her daughter suggests I google the phone number first. I found out the number came from a company called National Monitoring Center... They have an office in Orange County and an Office in Texas... I called the Rancho Santa Fe number and I got an immediate response, I told the employee I wanted to speak to a manager. They transferred me to a man named Michael who answered my questions to what I can only assume honestly. He informed me something to effect of "we have partnered with a monitoring center that can provide redundant monitoring in case our office goes down and can offer advanced technology and services..." he sounded rather convincing. The whole experience has left a very sour taste in our mouths. We called Rancho Santa Fe and requested they cancel our alarm system. They were very resistant, which was very unprofessional in my opinion. I did not want to tell them I am switching to our cable company so I just told them I am moving and we ended up switching over to ATT. Beware, they advertise they are local, their office is still there, I know I drove by it while I contemplated going in to work it out with them but their services are no longer there, they are somewhere in another state... Rancho Sante Fe Security was our most expensive option ($2400) when we had a system installed 18 months ago, but I thought we would be getting a higher quality system for our money, and I like to support local businesses. Since then, we have had multiple sensor failures and now a control panel failure. Since they only offer a 1-year warranty, we have had to pay for replacements. Both smoke detectors failed, but not before setting off 3 false alarms. Beware, because the fire department charges you for false alarms. Now we are told that our control panel is failing, so we are looking at nearly $1000 just to replace the failed parts. Our contract will not be up for a couple of months, but for the cost of repairing our old system we can buy a new system from a competitor, plus pay for a year of monitoring. The high price, low quality, and short warranty period on the system that RSF installed makes them a one-star provider. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. The one bright spot was that the techs who did the installation and repairs were helpful and knowledgeable, but there is only so much they can do when the system is junk. read more

We've been customers of Rancho Santa Fe Security for years for my home. On the plus side, when we make a mistake and open a door without shutting off the alarm, they call immediately. They are friendly and professional. However, on one recent occasion the alarm went off in the middle of the night. Scared us pretty badly. I turned it off and they called, as they should. But then, I asked them what I was supposed to do as the home owner. They didn't really have any advice. Check my house? Send a guard? Call the cops? How the heck am I supposed to know? Creeping around the house wondering if I am going to run into a group of burglars is not my idea of fun. It seems to me they should have a standard answer and tell me what to do. They are the professionals, not me. I tried to schedule someone to come out and check out my system in the daylight and they told me to call during business hours. I called and they said they were booked for a couple days. Really not sure what to think about them now. Not feeling all that secure. read more
