I can not explain how this place has more than 4 stars. The best thing on my plate was the roasted chili pepper. The yelp page says lots of vegetarian options and yay for vegan. Not so much. I do eat fish so we went ahead and ordered. I got "Mojarra Frita" described as fried tilapia topped with Mexican cheese. I ordered no cheese. I was expecting a filet. It was a whole fish. This was not daunting. But the first bite told me that it had spent too much time in a freezer. I dipped into the beans and they dripped through my fork. Husband had beef tacos. I asked how they were. He said "If I'm sick tomorrow, you know why." It's been an hour. So far we aren't sick. Good things: the chips were super crunchy. The salsa was ok though I had to add hot sauce to it. The rice wasn't totally bad. The avocado was fresh and perfectly ripe. The service was good.

Stopped in on our way home from a trip to Costa Mujeres, because it's hard to let go of Mexico. We were greeted and seated immediately at around 130pm on a Tuesday. Establishment was clean & well decorated. Several imports on tap & a large menu. Chips and (big score here) INDIVIDUAL bowls for salsa - double dip with no fear or judgement! Chips were automatically refilled when empty. Food came out with hot food hot and cold food cold. There was an abundant of food on each plate, perhaps too much, as only 1 of 3 finished. Dishes were neither over-salted nor bland. There were sauce options to amp up the heat, as well as a variety of flavor profiles yo choose from on the menu. It's nice that it wasn't one note. We were too full for dessert, so that will have to wait til next time. Empty dishes were refilled or removed promptly. Timing for the wait staff was on point, though only 2 other tsbles were occupied, removing some of the rush hour challenges. Overall, we were very pleased with our experience.

While visiting Alexandria, MN my wife and I decided to try the local Mexican cuisine and boy did it not disappoint! To start with the Salsa that came with the chips was spectacular, probably one of the best Mexican restaurant salsas I've had. The food was hot, tasty, and the perfect portion size for dinner with extremely quick service. The only disappointment was the margarita and it really wasn't that big of an issue but is the only reason I didn't give a 5 star review. The margaritas tasted fantastic but they lacked in alcohol so much we ended up asking if we had been given a nonalcoholic margarita. That being said we would definitely return if we happen to find ourselves back in Alexandria, MN.

    Dinner!

Great food! I ordered a steak and when they brought it out, it was still sizzling as if it had just been taken off the grill!

Authentic Mexican food, good quality, tastes like my auntie made it. I def recommend El Michoacana if you're into steak or the Acapulco Combo if you like fish

Tried someplace new while in Alexandia. Who knew you could get such fresh and perfectly seasoned seafood from a Mexican restaurant?!! So good!! I was a little hesitant, looks like the building was once a Wendy's, but it has a nice bar area, clean booths and tables and observant staff. Best of all the food was great!

Fresh chips and salsa!! Very tasty!'

Very good place to eat at in Alexandria!! Definitely worth the stop! Staff very attentive and they take care of you!!! The food served very hot and quickly with great flavors!! Definitely coming back here! Thanks!!

    Happy hour !

Terrible service, a bathroom toilet full of poop, marginal food and an incorrect bill. This place is a one and done for us.

Great food! Quiet, pleasant atmosphere and clean. The salsa has a nice bit of heat in it. Hawaiian fajitas were excellent. We'll stop again.

Okay, as a Southern California native I love authentic Mexican cooking. So whenever I go to a…read moreplace, my my signature test is to order the carnitas. But let's get into that in a minute. This place is conveniently located next to about five or six motels and hotels, so it makes for a perfect venue for a unique dinner spot. From an exterior standpoint. The place looks great, and has plenty of parking. There are a couple major potholes in the parking lot that could have been fixed but that's a small thing. On the inside, lots of wooden booths and a very festive Hispanic atmosphere. I really enjoy the sombreros hanging from the sides of the booth, as well as the paintings on the wall. From a visual standpoint. This looked like it was going to be a great meal. The waitress came and took my order. She seemed very frightened and standoffish. Now I'm a big guy. I get that, but I'm not that intimidating. But she made zero eye contact and couldn't really answer my questions that I had as her English was not that good. Regardless, I went ahead and ordered the carnitas plate and a water. The food came back pretty quick, and the plate looked appetizing, the refried beans were sort of orange which I wasn't super crazy about, but you know hey, sometimes these things happen. Happen. They were tasty. On a side note, they brought chips and salsa, the chips were fairly bland and the salsa was sort of pedestrian. Didn't really have much spice to it at all. The carnitas itself was well cooked, but had almost zero flavor to it. They smother it in onions, and that helped. But you know as well as I do that. When carnitas is cooked right, it is a mouthful of flavor. On the plate it also came with rice. The refried beans, a little spoonful of guacamole and some Pico de gallo. I ordered the flour tortillas as I wanted to make three larger tacos, which I did. To be honest, the only thing that saved the day was the hot sauce on the table. Adding that to the carnitas actually gave it some flavor and worked out pretty well. Bottom line? If I'm ever back this way again, I don't think I will be stopping here. I did not try any of the other things on the menu but the one I had was just pretty average. Your mileage may vary.
