By far the best dentist I've ever gone to and I deeply HATE going to the dentist , amazing care.

Went to this dentist for an emergency filling. His office was very different than any other dentist I had been to before. It felt almost like a home office, and it was just him, no assistant or dental hygenist to assist. I really liked Dr. Tom because his patient engagement and communication were clear and comforting. He was also able to fit me into his schedule when no one else could. However, now a little over a year later, I am experiencing pain in the tooth that he filled. I visited a new dentist and was told that this tooth now needs the filling to be removed so I can get a root canal done on this tooth. It seems like when I went to Dr. Tom, my cavity was not completely fixed and then it was filled over, leading to deeper penetration of the decay which is now impacting the nerve. A year ago, all I needed was a filling and now, because it was not properly done or something was missed, I need to go through a painful root canal procedure and pay over $500 to get this faulty filling taken out and re-done. read more

Rarely do I give five stars, but Dr.Tom is an exceptional dentist. He truly spends his time taking care of his patients. Unlike dentists at fancy offices with the latest tech he takes the time to explain the dental procedure and refer you to oral surgeon specialists as needed. If you looking for a friendly and experienced dentist look no further. Unfortunately he isnt currently accepting new patients but he can refer you to your local dentist in sf. He does have parking right in front of his office and uses specialized cleaning to make sure each patient has a clean room to come into. read more

I first started seeing Dr. Tom 3 years ago. I found him on yelp and decided on him because he was one of the few dentists that took my Medical. My daughter and I really needed to see a dentist and it was crazy, all the other providers that took medical had a bunch of alarming reviews !!! I see the only bad review on Dr. Tom now is that his office is a little messy but I want to point out that all is equipment is clean and autoclaved/ sterilized before each use!!! The person that wrote that bad review was bocking that it's an old building with older equipment but, hello! none of that effects how good a dentist he is! Here's what I have observed: Dr. Tom has a small little office in the sunset that has been in business for over 30 years. He runs the whole office by himself and is a super knowledgeable and a big people person. Be prepared to get so much education about your mouth and your teeth. He's loves to talk to his patients and is passionate about his work. He is very professional and I feel has really helped me understand and take better care of my teeth. He was the first dentist to really explain what is happening to my bite and different options and what they all are. Pros, cons and Price options too. Previous dentist I had had a huge fancy high tech office and dental hygienist who would clean your teeth while playing a TV show over your head it was so expensive and during the exam the Doc only spent 5 min with me. I'll take Dr. Tom any day over that ! I continue to go to him even after my medical got cut. He lets me pay out of pocket and doesn't over charge. Dr. Tom has been our family dentist for many years, and has always been a dentist that honestly care and takes his time with his patients. Hes located near the n Judah line in the sunset area. He's a very practical and no nonsenses dentist while being personable at the same time. He doesn't try to sell you anything or upcharge you. He's a very pragmatic dentist who cares about keeping your teeth healthy and less about a luxury spa experience. He is very frank and honest about the condition of your teeth, the treatments that will be required and in my case, the surgeries I will end up having to get. While he is very straightforward and a no nonsense type of person, he certainly does know how to make you laugh and put you at ease. I'd like to start by saying, Please don't pay attention to that lady that left a review saying the Office is filthy. Dr. Tom's practice is clean, yes he's got paperwork on his desk but who doesn't? And that's besides the point, She went in and most likely got treatment and felt a lot better. Dr. Tom is a fantastic a dentist and a person! He has taken very good care of me when I go to him with emergencies and also for the regular cleaning and check up. I have a lot of trust in Dr. Tom and I won't go to any other dentist in the bay. The last dentist I went to hurt my teeth when trying to remove stains and did not do a good job. I still had stains afterwards and I had a bad experience overall. I could not find a dentist that accepted Medi-Cal (using their directory) and also had a history of decent work. So I decided to look for a dentist using yelp. I found Dr. Tom Randall and I am glad he was able to take me as a patient. He explains everything while he talks and gets to know you. The experience I had with Dr. Tom was like getting a haircut from a barber that I've been going to for years. He hinted to me that it took him a while to clean my teeth (I've been to the dentist like twice in twenty years), but the total time it took him to finish was faster than my previous visit to another dentist. He was also able to clear up all the stains on my teeth and now they look perfectly new. He also made me feel comfortable about removing my wisdom teeth and referred me to a surgeon before he started work on a cavity. Finally, he also reassured me that he would do everything he could to fix my cavity even if the surgeon was not able to (for some reason) do the job. This was the most reassuring, comfortable and pleasant experience I've had at a dentist in a very long time. His equipment seems up to date, although his office (work space) seems to have only the bare necessities to get the job done. I've been visiting dr Tom weekly for the past three weeks, for cleanings and long overdue drilling & fillings, and he's great. Not only does he know what he's doing, he's also passionate about what he does and won't hesitate to explain it all in-depth, supplying the tools and awareness that help me understand what's going on in my mouth and how to properly care for my teeth. This is something most dentists seem to avoid. I've often felt like knowledge has been kept from me for whatever reason. Perhaps they're afraid that if I know too much I'll become a dentist myself or that I'll maintain my teeth to the point that they'll lose business, I don't know. But dr. Tom is straight forward, doesn't sugarcoat his diagnosis (probably because it would create more cavities) and on top of it all he has a sense of humor and a bright personality. I was recommended to see Dr.Tom by a coworker who used to be a dentist. I avoid going to the dentists until usually an emergency since I don't have insurance and limited funds. My first appointment with Dr Tom was for a chipped tooth in the mid back area that had a sharp edge and was really bothering me. Dr Tom had me in the same day and has assisted with other issues on following appointments. He does not up-charge you and try to get you to do unnecessary procedures like many dentists I've experienced in past years. Dr Tom has a great bedside manner and I've always been comfortable and happy that he is aware of my pain sensitivity and adjusts accordingly during a procedure. I've never had to wait long for my appointment (5 min max) which is also rare compared to most doctor appointments (not just dental). Also small "free" parking in front which is very convenient. All in all, Dr Tom is a great guy and very competent dentist! read more
