They are kind and patient with kiddos (and with nervous adults!) and Zeynep, who mans the phones and everything else, is so efficient and lovely. As someone with major anxiety around going to the dentist giving a dentist 5-stars is a big deal. I heard about Dr.Habelt through a friend and I am so glad I did. This is a friendly, welcoming family office. I have only been to one other dentist office that felt this comfortable and inviting. While I wasn't an actual patient here, the dentists were especially kind because they came out to meet me while I waited for my mom. This dentistry was recommended by a friend. I had an ill-fitting crown that caused all sorts of discomfort. My old dentist made it seem like it was something I would have to live with, which I did for six months. After I came to Dr. Habelt (the senior), he took care of it in one visit. A very satisfied patient of Dr. Habelt's in the past, I had fallen away trying to seek lower cost dental services at a university dental school in SF. While they had solved some problems, their specialist fees turned out to be astronomical, and eventually I was not getting the help or referrals I desperately needed. With three separate and complex dental issues impinging on my ability to eat and threatening to go into emergency mode at any time, I returned to Dr. Habelt, who immediately took care of everything for a fraction of the time, pain, and money. Dr. Habelt is kind, gentle, listens, and quickly solves the issues. His office manager, Kimberley, is a thoughtful and caring mentor throughout your visit. Marci is sunny, assuring, and efficient in assisting Dr. Halbelt. Another big plus is that street parking is always available on the same block, making access to the building hassle-free. Dr. Habelt is the best! I have been going to him for about eight years now and since they do the best cleaning job in the world I haven't had to have much actual work done on my teeth apart from repairing old damage. This is the place to go if you are afraid of dentists or have serious issues - they will make sure that you are not in pain and are comfortable. Just make sure that you tell them what your concerns are (even the best dentists can't read minds, duh) and they will make you happy. Dr. Habelt does great work, Kimberley on the front desk is excellent and friendly, and all (one or two) the other dentists and dental hygienists are hand picked by Dr. Habelt and therefore obviously fabulous also, as is my experience. The only thing that grates against my teeth is the "easy listening" station on the radio - but I guess this is something we have to endure if the dental work is painless, right? Or maybe one day Dr. Habelt will do the unthinkable and stop even this pain by getting satellite or internet radio? Should dentistry be totally painfree even if it meant that our ears weren't assaulted by Celine Dion? Who knows? I will take my pearly whites to my grave thanks to Dr. Habelt but probably will lose my hearing way before that anyway. read more

I have been going here for years. Its a small neighborhood place on Taraval. There is usually 1-hour parking out front (no meters). Kim always greets me as soon as I arrive. No waiting to be seen... immediate assistance most times. Also, I had something trapped under a crown that caused my gums to be inflammed and infected. It was afterhouse...and I left a message. Dr. Habelt was visiting his parent and left to meet me at his office to take care of my pain and remove the blockage. I couldn't beleiver and so very thankful. The service is great! I haven't been to the dentist in over (insert absurd amount of time)! So after returning after (insert absurd amount of time), it was nice that Kimberley, at the front desk, remembered me. She's always been very warm and sweet:) Dr. Habelt greeted me with a genuine smile and interest of what I'd been up to for the past (insert absurd amount of time). I, sheepishly and briefly talked about work and my travels and he shared some stories too. This made me feel more comfortable since I didn't feel like just another pair of uppers and lowers. Tail between my legs, "I know it's been (insert absurd amount of time...minus a few months) since I've been here." Without judgment or a yuck mouth comment, Dr. Habelt smiled and said, "Let's get you checked out". During my cleaning, he was gentle, took the time to explain what he was doing and checked in with me to see if I was okay. The music and sunshine beaming through the glass doors helped distract me too. After the cleaning, he spent a lot of time answering my questions and talking about dental health. Dr. Habelt is personable, easygoing and professional. I'm glad that I returned to his office after (insert absurd amount of time). And luckily, no cavities! Be sure to take some free toothbrushes, paste and floss on your way out. read more

Dr. Habelt is the best dentist in the world! I have been going to him for 14 years now. I used to be phobic about visiting the dentist, so much so that previous dentists used to prescribe valium for me to take before I arrived. Not anymore! I don't even get nervous now. My first call to Dr. Habelt was when I broke a tooth on a Saturday afternoon. I expected to leave a message for first thing Monday, but Dr. Habelt answered the phone and had me come in right then! Amazing. I wasn't even his patient at that time. He is very warm and friendly, hires excellent, courteous staff and, most important, he does top-notch work! Due to my phobia, I avoided dental work for years and so needed a lot of work done. Dr. Habelt did it all: several crowns and fillings, and they are all holding steady even 14 years later. I had an accident in which my two front teeth were pushed back in my mouth. Dr Habelt and Marcy scheduled me in as son as I was out of the hospital within 24 hours of the injury despite the fact he was on vacation. I've been going to Dr. Habelt since I was a little kid (about 20 years now!), and he is an excellent dentist! The office has a great atmostphere, and everyone is really nice. Kimberly at the front desk is the best, and she is really organized and on top of things! One great thing about this office is that they never keep you waiting! Everytime I have had an appointment there, they are always on time and get me in and out. The office is also very easy to get to and there is plenty of street parking as well, so it's totally hassle-free, which is really important to me as a busy student! I am a patient of Eric Habelt for 15 + years. If there is such a thing as painless dentistry he is it. He performed, along with Dr Dean Duncan a most complicated complete upper implant. In 2009 I wrote: Dr. Habelt is now taking care of the 3rd generation of my family whose teeth he tends. We obviously have had lots and lots of good experiences here over many, many years and never anything bad. I ever referred a friend to him after her teeth had been butchered by an unskilled and unethical dentist and he was able to fix her up and restore her faith in the profession. She had to take the bus from the Mission, which took over an hour each way, but said it was definitely worth the trip. Update in 2012: Since my first review 3 years ago, my elderly dad has gotten quite impaired physically and mentally. Dr. Habelt and his staff are incredibly patient and work with him well so that they can keep his teeth clean without any stress to him. This is my Dentist. I come here for all of my dental work and luckily in about a year and and a half it has been only cleanings except for one occasion of necessary dental work. What I like about this place is that they get you in and out. I had a cleaning a few weeks ago and it took about 20 minutes total. Of course I layed there and dealt with the pain( I have very sensitive teeth) without squirming or complaining which made it a quick experience. But it was still really quick. They even give me breaks on my bills.! read more

I picked Dr Habelt because of his yelp reviews and his video. His wasn't the most convenient location for me but found the video compelling. I am glad I followed my instincts. I found Kimberly, the office manager, to be very pleasant and professional. Also Dr Renz who cleaned my teeth made me feel as comfortable as one can when having their teeth cleaned. I feel he did a very good job. Dr Habelt gave me my final exam and carefully went over what he had found. Mostly old fillings and worn down front teeth. He assured me nothing needed doing at this time but there were a couple of possible problems in the future. Some of my fillings are very old. What impressed me the most was when he talked about my worn down front teeth. I guess I grind my teeth at night. His recommendation was to do nothing unless they start to become painful. Other dentist have wanted me to build those teeth up which would be complicated and expensive. Parking was easy, I was able to park in front of his office and I was through the whole process in just a little over an hour. This has been a good experience. read more

In the past I have had high anxiety when going to the dentist, and when our previous dentist retired, I was very selective about picking a new dentist.
