Did a little self guided food tour of the stores of Artur Avenue this past Saturday morning with a bunch of friends and this was our seventh stop. Once one of my friends finished purchasing some fish to bring home for dinner, we all bellied up to their outdoor stand for some clam and oysters on the half shell. This is one of those places that truly makes you appreciate that you live in the Bronx and NYC. Randazzo's has been around for nearly 80 years, and you can tell that it is an establishment that takes a lot of pride and joy in what they are doing. On previous strolls on Arthur Ave, I remember walking by the clam bar outside and thinking that I needed to give it a try. Once I heard from a friend of a friend that the clams on the half shell at Randazzo's weren't to be missed, I knew I had to take that next opportunity. I do believe these were the best clams on the half shell I've ever had. They were expertly shucked by a very nice guy who was friendly and shared with me that he had been working there since the late 1980s. That is also saying something right there. The prices can't be beat, and I truly hope Randazzo's is around for years to come. I already can't wait to come back! read more

It's the little Italy in the city but it's in the bronx (thank God for Arthur ave), every now and again I get in my moods for some raw clams and is a must that I get them from this spot. My husband recently purchased some salmon, shrimp, and lobster from this place. He insisted on getting the food from here because his father has been going there for years. Even made a special trip to the Bronx for it. The lobster was a bonus surprise just for me. We didn't have it for more than 24hrs and kept it refrigerated per the instructions provided, and on my first site of the lobster meat I thought something was wrong but took a chance and immediately regretted it. It was rancid! Took everything in me to not throw up the second I tasted it. I despise wasting food or money and the lobster was both. ..a waste of food and money. The entire container went straight in the garbage. I was hesitant to even try the salmon and shrimp after that, but for what he paid I couldn't fathom just throwing it away. But even just looking at those items it was clear they were fresher than the lobster. If it wasn't for the fact that we couldn't get back to the Bronx for a few days, I wouldn't have risked eating any of it and would have bought it all back! He might, because he's a creature of habit, but I won't be eating anything from this establishment ever again. read more

Sadly, I tested positive for ecoli and norovirus (a common stomach virus) after eating here. I thought the food was absolutely delicious and loved the people working here! I had the oysters, clams and shrimp and loved the shrimp so much. Simply the best fish. Astoundingly fresh. Many hard to come by fish from the Mediterranean Sea. Langoustines, sepia, baby octopus, branzino, dorado, fresh anchovy, Spanish mackerel, cockles, manila clams, sablefish, etc.. The store smells wonderfully clean. The care that the brothers put into this business is overwhelmingly obvious. There is no other fishmonger on Arthur Avenue worth considering. Fresh street raw bars, one of the main reasons why my husband and I have been dying to go visit Arthur Ave. We found out about Randazzo's from chowhound and were not disappointed. The oysters and clams were huge and fresh; the sea urchin was delicious. There was something about the overall experience that was really enjoyable. The place was clean, the staff was incredibly friendly, and the seafood was top of the line. We were there on a rainy saturday afternoon and there was no line, but we've heard that there are times when there is a line down the street with patrons waiting for their fresh shucked seafood. I've developed quite an insatiable appetite for crab legs as a result of watching too many episodes of Deadliest Catch on Netflix, so I picked up a few snow crab clusters at $8.99/lb. In addition to crab, there were many varieties of fish, cuttlefish, octopus, shrimp and more all for very reasonably prices! The staff were extremely friendly and full of very helpful cooking tips! Randazzo's is an awesome fish market on Arthur Ave. In addition to the selection inside, they have a little raw bar outside that you can stroll up to on a nice day and enjoy fresh-shucked oysters. The day I was here, they were serving blue point oysters, which are big East Coast oysters, similar to James Rivers. They also had cherrystone clams and littlenecks. We ordered a half dozen oysters for $8 (not bad), and the gentleman shucked them for us as we waited. They were served with lemon and hot sauce. While it would have been nice to have some mignonette, I didn't want to be the only guy in the Bronx ever to ask for mignonette, so hot sauce it is. The oysters were pretty decent. Not the best I've ever had, but good. The ambiance of standing around at the bar on a nice day made up for them, though. Inside, they have an amazing amount of high-quality fish products. The gambroni, giant shrimp, looked amazing. Someone I knew once described shrimp at a party he was at as "the size of a baby's arm": these must have been those shrimp. I am totally coming back for them. Anyway, baby's arm shrimp notwithstanding, this is a great place and you should visit! read more

MmmMmmMMmm...uni or sea urchin, to call it by any other name make it less sweet or delicious? We circled around to get a taste of this delicacy. I've had uni at sushi bars before, but never had one freshly shucked? I know oysters and clams ar shucked but sea urchin in their little spikey shells, what do you call that? Freshly de-shelled with a little bit of lemon made for a taste to get used to, a mix of sweet and salty and tar-like in successive order. They had a stand outside with a good amount of oysters, clams, and sea urchin shucked to order. B urged me to try the sea urchin and I gravely faced the black and tan interor, closed my eyes and let it slide down my throat. I'm not a big fan of Uni but this caused a party in my mouth. Salty, sweet, bitter and tart battled it out and settled down to a dull aftertaste of bitter. This place is really a seafood market with a pretty sizable selection of seafoods that would rival any seafood markets in Chinatown...without the stench!
