The clerk told me it's because they weigh the paper with the fish. Okay, fine, but that doesn't change the fact that I only received 1/4 pound of fish, and 1 ounce of paper when I weighed the two separately at home, and was still charged for a 1/2 pound. I know that all scales are going to be slightly different from each other but I have a very accurate scale at home and there is no reason why the weight should differ by 3-5 ounces from the scale that they have at the store. Do it once, it's a mistake but three times makes it seem intentional. The quality of the fish is very good, which is why I gave one star, but I doubt that I'll be back.

This last time that I went, I got hard to find food products. I got frozen jute leaves for my Haitian friend. I got dried taro leaves for my Filipino co-worker. I myself got: bamboo leaves, frozen banana leaves, frozen bitter leaves, preserved duck eggs, fresh water chestnuts and tons of spices. I bought some meat from the butcher section and the guy sliced the meat up to my request. They have bones for soup. I saw durians, banana flowers, sorrel flowers, two types of bitter melons(the Asians and the Guyanese type), etc etc. They have Mexican products, Indonesian, Thai, Malaysian, Filipino, Indian and of course Chinese products. There is a huge variety of products to make dishes from at least half of the world. It is a typical Chinese grocery store. The aisles are clean and stocked with a lot of items. For example, the noodle aisle is 1/4 full of all types and width of rice noodles. So for those gluten free people, they will think that they are in heaven. They have other types as well. At the time, I was interested in getting noodles to make a few bowls of pho...therefore the bones and meat for it. They also have mushroom oyster sauce for the gluten free people. I digress. Anyways, give this supermarket a try. Don't get deter by the fish market with fishy smell when you walk in. If I were the owner, I would have put the fish shop in the back. BUT, what's done is done. They're not going to chit-chat with you about the latest news story in the New York Post. It's pure business: you walk in, if you want seafood that's still swimming in the tank, or, if you want fresh vegetables which aren't sold at Key Food, then, this place will pretty much have it. Other than that there's lots of Instant Ramen ---- from Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia, Vietnam ---- and lots of spices from both Asia and the Caribbean. And a "Goya" section too. Oh, Kimichi, did I mention Kimchi in glass jars? And yes, they do have basics ---- milk, eggs, cheese, meat, cat food. A great little addition to the Bronx, well worth a visit. Alaskan king crab legs were 80 per lb and super colossal stone claws were 38 per lb and bushel crabs 150-200 depending on who you ask. we settled on a 10lb bag of cockles 5.65 per lb from Montauk and a 120 bag of kumamotos $210 from Blue Ribbon. The space is really bright and wide inside and there are cars moving around fast, so you should be careful walking on the pedestrian walkway. The market is open from 2am to 7am Monday through Friday. The parking is $7. Be expected to wait in the car for a little bit if you arrive close to 2am. However, the cars do move fast enough to enter the market. We ended up getting scallops, oyster, shrimps and uni. We tried to cook everything the next day and they all tasted very fresh. We will probably visit again soon to try their fish, but firstly we need to find more friends to share with us lol

Real fish stores are rapidly disappearing. Long hours, heavy loads, good chance of an injury from spines, small profit margins; nowadays everyone wants a cushy job. Here's the reasons for 5 stars: it's clean, it has never smelled fishy when you walk in, the fishes eyes are clear (a sign of being really fresh), there's an exceptional selection of fish, shellfish, and crustaceans, they'll clean the fish to your request, if you ask, on a hot summer day, to double bag the fish with ice in the outer bag it's gladly done for you. They know their products. There's lemons, sauces, and vegetables. They can create a cooked meal for you; pick out what you want. They do the rest. You know it has to be great if it's always crowded. Two people behind the cleaning stand and a few others helping customers. The prices are reasonable. They take cash, credit cards, and EBT.
