This bracket "" high end bracket that cost $23 at Menards. He charged me $500 and I had two of them he gave me this big line of BS - I didn't know anything about electric work he could obviously see that and took full advantage of it. Called Randy's out for a flickering bathroom light and a dead outdoor fixture. The guys were nice enough (why I gave the second star) but when it came time to pay I was surprised -- I'd been quoted $600 nut ended up paying $754 because they replaced a $20 light fixture.. No paperwork was given to me at any point during the visit. I had to ask for an invoice the next day after my neighbors on Nextdoor told me the price seemed really high. When I got the invoice it had almost no pricing on it and showed an "agreed upon" amount of $147 that nobody ever mentioned to me. The outdoor fixture they installed retails at Lowe's for $17.98 online. Also, the technician yold me he replaced the switch, but that was not listed on the invoice. I've reached out multiple times including by email, text, and phone. After responding to the follow up "how was your service" text, I was told a manager would reach out. Got a voicemail from the technician, called back, never heard from anyone again. Just be informed before you call them -- get everything in writing upfront and ask for an itemized quote before they start any work. read more

I've wanted to change out my outdated bedroom light fixtures with ceiling fans for years. I finally bit the bullet and did an online request. Communication was easy via email, then a phone call. They could have come out 2 days later, but I hadn't even shopped around for fixtures yet. Once my appointment date came around, they were prompt within the time window. I got a text of the person assigned to my installation. Then I got a phone call when he was on the way. Mr. Luis Cortez had an apprentice with him. They were both friendly and professional. I did observe Luiz for a few moments, and he was a patient mentor with the apprentice. Some things did go awry. One of the ceiling fans I purchased was "returned" back to Menards defective. So when they finished installing it, it didn't work. I quickly ran back to Menards to purchase another fan and returned home 20 mins later. While I was gone and were waiting for me, I believed they took a mini-break/lunch. My townhouse is also older and needed a reinforced bracket placed in the ceiling via the attic. I know this is gross, but I had set some mouse traps in the attic a couple of winters ago. Guess what.... dead mice. Luis went above and beyond! He let me know, bright then down (and discarded), and he set new traps up there for me. Why thank you, sir! I would definitely use Randy's Electric for any future needs that arise. I'm surprised to see so many low reviews on here as we had a great experience with Randy's Electric. We reached out to a few electrical companies for estimates as we needed to replace our electrical panel. The guy who came out for our free estimate, Tom, was SUPER helpful in explaining all things electric and providing us different options to choose from. We ultimately went with Randy's due to our experience with Tom (we felt we could trust him) and their estimate was actually a bit cheaper than the other companies we had reached out to. On the day of the actual install we had a minor hiccup as city code had changed and basically twice the amount of work needed to be done. The techs called Tom, though, and stayed with our initial estimate since this extra work was never anticipated, so that was incredibly appreciated. They also had to find a workaround to this new code, which required an outdoor master switch, as they didn't want to have to go through/tear up our nice composite deck. We also appreciated them finding a way to make this work the same day. All the work was done in less than 8 hours. The techs, Jerakiah and Tyler were friendly, hard working and efficient. I hired Randy's to fix a recurring electrical issue that was cutting power to the upper floor of my home, and to install two new circuits. The work was done over two visits about a week apart. The new circuits seem to be working fine, but the original issue remains--despite spending over $5,000, including $1,000+ just for diagnostics. The electrician spent about 45 minutes on the initial assessment and replaced some wiring and breakers. The problem came back before the second visit, which I reported by phone--but when the electrician arrived, he was unaware of it. He did very little follow-up, blamed CFL bulbs, and later said the issue might be with outlet or switch connections--something I believe should have been checked from the beginning. The issue has since returned again, and I've followed up with three calls in three days. No response. To their credit, the crew was professional, worked in a difficult attic space, and cleaned up well. But for the amount I paid, I expected much better troubleshooting, communication, and follow-through. read more

Took about 30 minutes, billed $500!!!! (which I had to agree to BEFORE HE STARTED). I didn't appreciate the going rate for electrician service is $1000/hr???? (ok, there was some drive time...). And by the way, still have the problem, so it was not fixed.... I called to complain, was told someone would get back to me right away.....nothing. I scheduled to have Randy's Electric come out and fix an electrical issue. The woman scheduling the appointment told me they charge $199 for a service call fee which will allow the technician to diagnose the issue and provide an estimate for any repairs. I prepaid for this over the phone. Within a couple minutes after the technician arrived at my home he pulled out an iPad and asked me to authorize a $213 diagnostic fee. I explained to him that I already paid this fee per what the woman scheduling told me. He told me I would need to sign to authorize the additional charge or they would leave. I told them I wasn't interested and told them to refund the service call I paid. There was no service/diagnosis performed and I had to contact another electrician to come out and fix my issue. After I noticed my card was charged, I contacted Randy's Electric and asked for a refund. The person I spoke with was very rude and hung up on me. read more

Two men showed up which I though a little weird. I had a light switch not working which I installed already the problem was I stripped one of the wires I stripped I missed small piece of plastic on the wire which was the problem. They uncovered it in seconds. My bill was $571.00 was shocked by the price I paid it... but I totally was unhappy with the outrageous price. This is one of the most deceptive companies I have encountered and I would never recommend them. I was informed before I hired them that there would be a $199 visit fee, which I agreed to. Once the electrician arrived and after I agreed to pay the $199 visit fee, he informed me that I would need to pay an additional $430 troubleshoot fee for him and the other technician to troubleshoot the problem (i.e., to do any work whatsoever). I was not informed of the additional $430 troubleshoot fee when I agreed to pay the $199 visit fee. As a result, I was compelled to pay the $430 troubleshoot fee because I would have forfeited the $199 visit fee if I did not agree. The two electricians determined the problem within 10 minutes and replaced one outlet in my garage. They invoiced me a total of $630 for this work. Randy's Electric & Plumbing were dismissive of my concerns and denied a partial refund because "I signed their contract authorizing the charge." I was never presented with a contract and was simply asked to sign my name three times on an iPad screen. I am also concerned that Randy's Electric & Plumbing "troubleshoot fee" varies based on perceived consumer vulnerability--such as age or gender, based on reviews from other consumers who received different "troubleshoot fees." In short, my experience with Randy's Electric & Plumbing left me feeling so disgusted that I reported them to the Minnesota Attorney General and the Minnesota Board of Electricity for their deceptive and discriminatory trade practices. A contractor messed up the wiring and cover for an exterior outlet on our house in the process of replacing siding. It knocked out two other outlets as well. We complained and they sent Randy's electric. Zach a seasoned pro took a look at all the affected outlets and our present GFI switches in other rooms. He diagnosed the issue in about 10 minutes, repaired the exterior outlet, put a proper cover on it, restored service to all outlets and was done in about 45 minutes. He explained what had happened and his apprentice did the wiring portion Thank you on this stormy day if freezing cold to resolve our issue at the cost of the contractor We will defer to Randy's in the future! We hired Randy's electric to do $16,000 worth of work at our home back in 2021. We should have shop compared since I've found out since they are much higher priced than other electricians and not worth it. We had trouble with circuits tripping every time we used our power washer, blow dryer, vacuum...so Randy's sent a guy named Jeremy, and he had us believe the problem would be fixed by installing an entirely new circuit breaker box so we went with that. It ultimately didn't fix the problem. We also asked if he could replace lights for us in several rooms since ours were so dim and he convinced us that the lights they sold were better than what we could get at a hardware store. Immediately after the work was finished we had ringing in the panels installed in basement. I called Jeremy out and he claimed he couldn't hear the ringing but the guy working with him could hear it and said so, so Jeremy said there was nothing that could be done about it, it was probably a design flaw. If we wanted something else we'd have to pay for it. Then in December we had some flickering with the panel in our craft room and I called and called Randy's just to never get a response to my messages. Eventually we had to get another electrician to deal with it. Randy's guarantee is not worth the cost they charge because the guarantee is non-existent. If I could do it over I would have bought the lights from Home Depot and had a handyman install them. Also I want people to be aware that we received no instruction on how to switch out lighting on any of the fancy built in lights they installed. They didn't leave any instructions that should have come with the lights. They didn't even leave an instruction booklet for the fire + carbon dioxide detector like other companies do. So that's our experience. They are VERY expensive, misleading, and they don't honor their so called guarantee. In the end we just paid more for another electrician to deal with those useless panels. Update: in response to the comment by owner below. As I mentioned above we had a warranty for parts and service back when we reported the ringing panel (before the other panel started flickering and eventually turned into a strobe light, which I have video of) and Jeremy said that we would be have to pay all over again for a replacement so telling me now that it's still covered under warranty means exactly the same it did back then, which is nothing. He's definitely an excellent snake oil salesman, and we bought the lie. He came back a couple of days later with another technician and they spent a few hours documenting all kinds of things in our house that needed fixing or replacing, or would likely need so soon. They charged us close to $1000. We submitted the claim, and it was immediately denied by Xcel. Upon further investigation, we learned that this kind of thing is always denied, unless gross negligence can be shown on the part of the utility. They charged $3668.00 to replace one breaker move/replace an indoor outlet and replace an existing outdoor outlet. Last summer I had Randy"s electric complete some work in my townhome. They were prompt in responding and very personable. They finished the two projects in about 3 hours ( two visits) and two repairmen. They repaired a garage outlet and two outside outlets plus replaced two old done ceiling fixtures with simple LED flat light fixtures. The cost was over $1400 and the outside outlets worked for only 4 nights of Christmas lights...that was it!! Very disappointed in both price and results of workmanship of outlets. We were charged $1,270 for a single outlet run from a circuit box that had a free space in an unfinished basement where the line was run no more than 30 feet along the wooden beams on the ceiling to the new outlet. We called and described what we were looking to do (exchange 6 light fixtures and potentially exchange a few new outlets). We have a modern house, so no weird old wiring or anything. The rep on the phone wouldn't give an estimate because they aren't an electrician, which is fine, but thought the work would probably be a couple hours. When we asked what the hourly rate was, we were told there isn't one specifically. When the two guys showed up, they were extremely nice and personable (no complaints about their demeanor whatsoever). However, I was quoted at $2,843 if we wanted the lights and outlets with a house hold surge protection and quoted at $1,993 to just do the work without the surge protection. We were under the impression it would be a couple hours of work at some hourly rate. Again, we have modern house, we aren't putting in lights that didn't exist before. We're using all the same wiring and plates that exist. Just removing and replacing the light fixtures. That was quoted at two thousand dollars! I refused the work and still had to pay $60 for nothing. I wouldn't mind paying the $60 for the consultation/time if it was a reasonable quote, but I feel like I was just taken for $60 with an outrageous quote when we were misled that it would just be a couple hours of work (and it is just an hour of work to exchange the fixtures, not something outrageous complicated and time consuming).
