I was very thorough when I completed my forms in explaining my previous experiences & why I wanted to see Dr. Cook. I went in to my appt. today (Saturday) & was first shocked when I was asked for about $35 for uncovered X-rays that I would need that I wasn't forewarned about during any of the calls/texts made to me. Then, I was told there was an extra fee for using a card to pay this unexpected fee. Ok, I let that slide. During my cleaning with Val, I learned that Dr. Cook wasn't even there & I'd be seeing his associate. Ugh! Did they not read my paperwork??? I don't want to see his associate. I don't trust dentists at this point & was specifically giving Dr. Cook a chance, so please try to understand my disappointment by this entire appointment at this point. I spent 1.5 hours there to see someone else just to be told that I can come back to see Dr. Cook on a Monday, Tuesday, or Friday. I have to wait now until I can be off during the week to meet him & that's not going to be anytime soon. I made my next appointment for a cleaning, but I'm not sure if I'm even going. Im basically giving them a 3 star because the people I met were friendly. They just need to be more transparent & upfront about fees & make sure they are scheduling patients with who they actually want to see. After seeing the other dentist, my hygienist left me with another associate who did a panoramic scan on my mouth (I truly don't know why). From there was I taken to the front desk to check out. There was no flossing me. I didn't get a new toothbrush like at other dentists. What I did get was a cute cup at the end though. Thanks, Deja!

Each time I come in for an appointment, I am greeted by the friendly receptionist. She always has a smile on her face and is willing to answer any question that you may have. The staff here is phenomenal. I have to admit that before coming to this dentist office I hated going to the dentist. I don't like to use the word hate, but I don't know how else to describe it. Here, everyone is gentle and listens to your concerns. They ensure that you feel comfortable and routinely ask how you are feeling even when you are just getting a cleaning. I can't imagine going to another dentist office. I recommend this business to my friends whenever anyone mentions needing a new dentist.

There's always a new team through out the years. And the problems I've witness stems from the front office staff. The service you get from them feels a lot like money grabbing!! The secretary would not let you ask a quick question to the doctor without being put on the calendar even after you had a procedure done. This year I found out that he no longer accepts my type of insurance so I was willing to pay, For the office insurance which I did and I was scheduled the same week for a root canal. Totaling $3000. I came in for a add-on tooth for my partials. Was told be ready in two days, calling everyone day after still wasn't back until seven days later. Secretary had to give appointment just to come in and pick it up. Then they wasn't fitting correctly and secretary told me she will have to make appointment for doctor to correct it within days after. Then after root canal had to wait Nine days to come back for crown. Ask secretary same day upon leaving can she schedule me for a cleaning (free with office insurance) She informs me that I need appointment so he can check if my gums can do a regular cleaning or a deep clean it. Which would cost a few hundred more dollars. That's when I said enough is enough for trying to nickel and dime me.

I went to Cary Family Dental last year to get what I thought was a cosmetic repair of my front teeth. (I'd had some work done on them *many* years before that I thought had just finally worn away.) I initially saw one dentist at CFD who took a look at the problem and a hygienist who took photos of my teeth. I then saw Dr. Acton, who laid out the options for me, a couple of which would have been quite pricey (e.g., implants). First, I appreciated Dr. Acton assessing his patient accurately when he said, "You don't want to see before-and-after pictures, do you?" No, I did not. He ended up identifying something a dentist I had just seen (for something unrelated) had not; the problem teeth actually had *cavities*. He did the repair work himself. The difference was visible not just to me, but to friends as well. I've since seen Dr. Acton & Friends several times (sadly, recently, for a significant amount of work). The hygienists have all been great (and I appreciate that they don't use that stupid, messy prophy jet thing when they clean my teeth). The CDA (certified dental assistant, as I just learned) that I had with my most recent "visit" was also fab - just wish I could remember her name. Is Cary Family Dental cheap? Nope. But they do great work, and I would know.

I was there for a teeth cleaning, and some x-rays. #3 The tooth cleaning was less than impressive. Some of my deepest stains did not come out and they did not have answers for why they could not get them out "in my opinion". They were all ready to do extra fillers above my eye teeth to augment where the stains were. This would be at my cost, and would make the stains, invisible to the naked eye. #4 when I went to check out, I find out there is no coordination of benefits, which was never mentioned at any point when I spoke to the office manager or staff person during the initial interview. So now I'm going to have to file the extra paperwork myself. Not cool! #5 The straw that broke the camels back is several weeks later, when I receive the bill from the insurance company stating that this dentist office is out of network for my insurance company, which I specifically asked them to check and was told they "accepted my insurance". Now I don't know what that means to them, but to me, it means that they are in network for my insurance company. Surprise, they aren't! I owe almost $350. Again, not cool!

I have gone for general checkups, cleanings, X-rays, and one filling. This past year, my employer changed dental insurance companies, and unfortunately Dr. Clemons was no longer in-network for my new insurance provider. When I called to cancel my cleaning appointment in order to switch to an in-network dentist, they offered to waive my out-of-pocket fee for that cleaning and helped recommend a new dentist who was in-network for me and would be totally covered under my new plan. The office is clean and modern, the staff is smart, friendly, and helpful, and the work they do is flawless. Thank you, Clemons Family Dentistry!

Prior to moving here in '04 I'd had numerous dentists and Dr. Dunsmoor is by far the most professional and competent dentist I have ever dealt with. Her exams are methodical and thorough. On numerous occasions over the years she has instructed a hygienist re-do a section that wasn't cleaned to her high standards. Her advice in the care of my choppers has also been spot-on. Very early on I encountered a little friction with Dr. Dunsmoor's staff. Since that time she has upgraded her front desk staff and it has never happened again. I only mention it in the spirit of full transparency and note that I still give a 5 star rating. Additionally, the couple of times I felt I've needed Dr. Dunsmoor after hours she has always gotten back to me promptly and once met me outside of office hours which I appreciated very much. Lastly, she provides excellent and honest referrals. The endodontist and oral surgeon referrals she has provided were first class.
