Single speed, Volcom beach cruiser bicycle

I had an amazing time at Veloworks. I had a bunch of holiday tip money and wanted to get a beach cruiser. I found one for $350 that I really love. They even helped me pick out flashing lights for it. And they have two really cute dogs in the shop. One of them was named Cosmo just like me lol. 10 out of 10.

Restored late 60s(?) Falcon they rebuilt for me.

Had nothing but great experiences here. Very knowledgeable staff. If you slow down and take the time to appreciate this family run business, you can learn a lot about biking/trails/equipment. If you purchase a bike there, they'll often give you free lifetime tuneups. A real deal. Purchased a bike there and a surf rack for it. Great selection of top line equipment. They also beautifully restored my late 60s Falcon. Minus half star for high prices. But this is a premium shop and you get what you pay for. Quality is worth it.

This shop has a really skilled bicycle mechanic, but he has really POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE skills. Since he is the closest bike shop to where I live, I have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars there, on the many bikes that I have owned over the last decade. Today, I entered the completely empty shop and asked if he could adjust my brakes. He would look up at me and ask if I could bring it in another time, because he wanted to read his emails. I must have looked annoyed when I told him that I would just leave with my bike, if he was too busy. Possibly sensing this would probably be the last time that that he would see me as a customer, he stated, "well just wait 15 minutes and when I finish reading my emails I can do it". When done, I questioned why he only adjusted the handbrake adjustment on the handlebar (which was almost completely adjusted out already) and not closer to the brake. I was surprised that his brake adjustment was so suboptimal and I am at a loss why he seems apathetic to pleasing customers lately. I have NEVER asked to borrow tools or have him do ANYTHING on my bikes for free. I have ALWAYS paid him in full, whatever he bills me, even for the most minor adjustments or requests. He was my "Go To" bike mechanic for many years because of his bike knowledge and skills, I even love his beautiful dogs but I am hesitant to bring my bikes back there because of his poor attitude. [It is possible that this decline in trying to please a customer is related to post pandemic craziness, however.]

Lauf True Grit

I walked into the shop looking for a gravel bike. Sukeon showed me a few options that he had in stock, let me ride them down the block, and helped me select the Lauf True Grit. I couldn't be happier with this bike for LA riding (roads and trails)! He also assembled another bike I brought in, ready the next day. I really appreciate their quality and high level of service.

Best bike shop around... and they are dog friendly!…read more This Santa Monica bike shop is located on the corner of Broadway and 25th street with its own parking lot. It had a great selection of quality bicycles at reasonable prices. They stock Trek, Cannondale, Santa Cruz, Colnago, Pinarello and more in all types of bikes (road, hybrid, mtb, etc.). I was looking for a specific Trek Madone in a size small and this is the only local store that had it in stock. I called in advance to confirm its availability and set up a time to view the bike. I spoke with Monty. On the day of my visit, I met with Monty, took the bike for a spin, and took her home, along with a few other items (pedals, computer mount and water bottle cages). It was a smooth and easy transaction. Monty did the basic fitting and the guys in the service area installed all of the other items. The service area was busy with customers picking up and dropping off their bikes. Some even stopped in during their rides for a quick fix. Customer service was outstanding! Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable and super helpful. If I could rate it higher, I would... Pedals (my dog) had a great time hanging out in the store. We will be back!

Writing a very enthusiastic 5 star review for Helen's Cycles! A couple years ago i got a new Orbea…read moreRise (electric mountain bike) and for the last year I've been having problems with it shitting down mid ride and not come back on. I was told to go to an Orbea dealer for service and that was Bike Attack in playa vista - they are a joke and have since closed down for good reason. At my local bike shop the main tech got fired after helping me get a replacement motor (not why he was fired) from Shimano. So i was on my own with this as it shut down yet again on a long ride- and didnt come back on. I decided to find another Shimano dealer for service. From the moment i called Helen's i got nothing but polite and enthusiastic help. I took it in and explained everything to Eric, one of the techs who works w Shimano on E bikes like this. He got it back to be in a few days and explained in detail what he did (pull the motor out and check all the wiring and get on diagnostics with Shimano via the web to update software and firmware) and didn't just try to upsell me on something i might not need or gouge me on the price like bike attack. Neither he nor i know if it has been totally solved but i know i have an ally now in dealing with this and he will be honest and escalate the service as necessary. I'll be out on rides again knowing that if it craps out again i know who to work with as we trouble shoot and get to a final fix. Thanks eric and everyone at Helen's Santa Monica!

Had an extremely disappointing experience getting my bike tuned up at Bicycle Ambulance. I dropped…read moreoff my bike and the store said they'd call me in about a week when it was ready. Over a month later, I still hadn't heard back, so I called the store, but didn't get any answer. Two days later, when I'm out of town, the store calls me and says it's "absolutely urgent" that I come by and pick up my bike because it's taking up space in the store. I explained that I was out of town and couldn't pick it up that week, and that this was the first time I was hearing about the bike being finished, even though it had been more than 30 days. The person on the phone said "Oh, they should have called you, it's been done for weeks." The next week, when I'm back in town, I call the store verify the hours and tell them I'm coming to pick up the bike that day. At 3:00p, I stop by, and the store is complete empty -- door's closed and locked, and the lights are off. I call the store number a dozen times, but no answer. I stand outside for 20 minutes before a worker comes from down the street and unlocks the door, and he gives no explanation or apologies for why the store has been closed when I tell him I've been waiting for 20 minutes. When we get inside, he gives me the bike (which, I admit, was very nicely done), and when I go to pay, he can't find the ticket to ring me up -- it takes another five minutes to go into the back to dig around before he finds the ticket and I can pay. TLDR: While the bike tune up was good, the customer service experience was atrocious. Would not recommend Bicycle Ambulance when there are many other options around.
