Medium jerk chicken with rice and peas, cabbage, and Pink Ting

This was first time trying. I'll used to another restaurant so I'll try to avoid comparing too much but the rice and peas was a bit dry. Not fluffy like I'm used to so I assume it was lacking in coconut milk. The sauce is needed on the rice which it really shouldn't be and they go light on the sauce. However, the jerk chicken was extremely moist, fell right off the bone. Not extremely hot but the flavor is there. Cabbage was great. It was crisp and mixed with other veggies. I prefer it a bit more soft but I don't mind the way they make it. You can see the chefs cooking in the back which I think is a nice touch and they keep the food on rotation. The price I saw on the board is not what was rang up even including tax and they charge a 7% tax but tax is 6.25% if I'm not mistaken taken. I do like that you can grab your own drink. I will go again for now being that it's within walking distance from me but wouldn't go out my way like my original spot. A great neighborhood spot!

I came in on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch. A new customer walked in every two minutes so they were fairly busy. I ended up ordering the jerk chicken with rice and beans and veggies on the side. I also had a beef patty. The woman asked me if I wanted jerk sauce on my chicken and I said yes. I might pass on the sauce for next time because it made it a bit more spicy than I was hoping for. I love spicy food but it was a bit more spicy than I had planned for lunch. The chicken was still delicious! The portions were large so I had leftovers for dinner. The beef patty was flaky and the filling had just enough heat. The kola was a good option to calm down the spice a little bit. There's not much seating in here so most people were getting the food to go. There's only 4-5 chairs by the window if you did want to eat inside.

Very good atmosphere and food. Rarely had a bad experience. Prices are a bit high but par for the course with most Jamaican restaurants!

I got the jerk chicken with fried plantains and rice. The sides were freaking amazing. The fried plantains were so crispy and I could eat them all day. The rice was also delicious because it was a little sweet and had some coconut flavor too. The jerk chicken itself was great. It was more of a saucy jerk chicken instead of a dry rub, but it tasted really tender and flavorful. It was a little pricey for $~18, but I think it's worth it. It was a lot of food and I ended up having leftovers to take home for dinner. A few days later, and I still craved that chicken, plantain, and coconut rice combo. Can't wait to go back!

Some highlights: Garlic shrimp - these were huge and juicy with the perfect amount of garlic flavor. Having this on the rice and beans was heaven on a place and I had several helpings of this! Chicken - this was a little spicy for me, but that's just a personal preference. I could tell that this was well seasoned and people more tolerant to spice would love this - the chicken was still juicy and saucy. This also pairs well with the rice and beans! Plantains - nothing over the top but a nice sweeter bite to balance out the plate. Yummy! Mac n cheese - this was one I wasn't super crazy about - I think a bit more cheese would have been nice here but it wasn't a bad bite. All in all, 4/5 as there were some dishes that didn't blow me away, but the garlic shrimp with the rice and beans is to die for. Would happily have this again or go to the food truck location to order it!

It's a small, family-owned restaurant that's half Filipino and half Jamaican, run by a Filipino Tita and her Jamaican husband. She learned how to cook Jamaican food to remind him of home, which honestly makes the whole place feel even more meaningful. The Filipino dishes I tried were authentic and tasted homemade -- the kind of food that feels like it came straight out of your auntie's kitchen. The Jamaican food was also delicious (I can't personally vouch for authenticity there), but everything we had was flavorful and satisfying. It's a great, casual, order at the counter spot -- and it's right next to a Filipino market, which makes the experience even better. I love supporting small businesses, especially ones that represent my culture. Bright Light is the kind of place that deserves the love.

I appreciated how much this place leans into both cultures from decor showcases both cultures to their balanced menu featuring dishes from both. There is ample seating at this place and dont let the construction outside deter you because they are open. We ordered the cheese manakish to start, and this might have been my favorite dish. Balanced with two types of cheese with a light airy texture to it kept it from feeling too dense. The pita its on is crunchy and thin, and theres a drizzle of sauce, likely some form of pesto, that cuts the flavor making it a truly enjoyable dish. We also ordered the chicken kebabs and roasted jerk chicken. The kebabs were a great portion with tender chicken, some greens, and grains. I personally could have used more tzakai, but thats a personal preference. Overall though, the meal did not feel heavy and I left feeling full but not overtly stuffed which I was happy with. My husband's jerk chicken was a sizable dish. The chicken was tender and fell right off the bone, and the pilaf had a nice flavor to it. Overall we really enjoyed our meals. The service can take some time, but its a super small staff so just be patient.
