Upset what happened to Raphael's. I ordered a curry goat. My question is where is the curry goat. Where is the curry? They keep putting cumin N barely any curry. I ordered oxtails for my mother and the oxtail had a nerve to have butter beans that was tough and the oxtail was tough. Who is the cook today, February 19, 2026? They need to hang it up and quit because not everyone is on dispensary or smoking or drinking. This place has really went down with their food. Not a happy person. I miss the old cook. And the cook I ran into today he was off and I thought he was working and when I found out he was off. I felt like I want to take the food right back and get my money, but I know that was not possible. I'm resigning from this place. From a person of a family of cooks, chefs. not very good. I got the shrimp scampi and it had no sauce just oil. I would not recommend this place if your looking for a good scampi.

I came here on a whim because I had to be at that ratchet courthouse nearby. The customer service here was better than most Caribbean restaurants, and there was minimal seating by the windows. Beef patty with cheese : 0/10 Was dry and not even flaky. Just hard and the meat was lukewarm and had a weird taste. The American cheese that was added was not it either Jerk chicken : 1/10 The chicken tasted as if it was boiled only and then "jerk sauce" just tossed on the chicken. Clearly it was not made on the grill, and if so, it needed to be on there a lot longer. White rice with curry gravy : 3/10 The white rice had no flavor, actually tasted like water. The curry gravy couldn't even save the rice, perhaps because the "gravy" was watery as well.. I didn't even know this was the place I tried until I saw my receipt, I've always heard about their sandwiches on coco bread and maybe that's the only thing I'd come back to try. read more

Well i prefer this place over a couple other Caribbean food spots that i won't name. But the food is delicious. Portions are large and the meat is always tender. From oxtails, to curry chicken or shrimp orrr the stew beef king fish. There's this guy that is very funny and makes the sometimes a bit of a wait worth it. Friendlier than most Caribbean restaurants in town. But let me tell you. When i found out they made steak and cheese on cocoa bread (like i used to get from Lenny's Bakery) i was IN LOVE!! This was first time trying. I'll used to another restaurant so I'll try to avoid comparing too much but the rice and peas was a bit dry. Not fluffy like I'm used to so I assume it was lacking in coconut milk. The sauce is needed on the rice which it really shouldn't be and they go light on the sauce. However, the jerk chicken was extremely moist, fell right off the bone. Not extremely hot but the flavor is there. Cabbage was great. It was crisp and mixed with other veggies. I prefer it a bit more soft but I don't mind the way they make it. You can see the chefs cooking in the back which I think is a nice touch and they keep the food on rotation. The price I saw on the board is not what was rang up even including tax and they charge a 7% tax but tax is 6.25% if I'm not mistaken taken. I do like that you can grab your own drink. I will go again for now being that it's within walking distance from me but wouldn't go out my way like my original spot. A great neighborhood spot! read more

I came in on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch. A new customer walked in every two minutes so they were fairly busy. I ended up ordering the jerk chicken with rice and beans and veggies on the side. I also had a beef patty. The woman asked me if I wanted jerk sauce on my chicken and I said yes. I might pass on the sauce for next time because it made it a bit more spicy than I was hoping for. I love spicy food but it was a bit more spicy than I had planned for lunch. The chicken was still delicious! The portions were large so I had leftovers for dinner. The beef patty was flaky and the filling had just enough heat. The kola was a good option to calm down the spice a little bit. I went here on Tuesday with my boyfriend to get some food. The staff are incredibly rude. They seem to not understand what I was asking for. They almost talked to me and looked at me like I was stupid. I asked for a a large tripe dinner and a large oxtail dinner with gravy on both. I'm not sure what was hard to understand about it. I had to keep reiterating what I wanted. That came up to 31 dollars and when i got home my tripe dinner was spilled over bc they stapled one container and the other they didnt so the gravy spilled. There was bot enough meat in either meals. The tripe is usually good but this time it was tough and I cook, so I know tripe is supposed to be cooked till tender. Oxtails were good but they give you more rice than anything and if I order a large I expect a large. I won't be back. read more

Craving jerk chicken from Raphael's Restaurant I drove from the north shore today. I love the food from this restaurant I have tried almost everything they offer. Today I had moist, fall off the bone jerk chicken, rice and peas, fresh cabbage with veggies, and calalou and it was all delicious! Today is the first time I have tried calalou and I am glad I did. The restaurant is on the corner if you blink you will miss it, there is plenty of parking and a small lot out back. It is a small casual place that accepts credit cards. My only complaint is the cashier's they appear to be miserable. Today I asked the cashier five times for a menu and she just mumbled her response (I don't know if they have them). After a vey unsatisfying meal and the Holly Crab in Allston and $93 lighter and still hungry, we stopped here for some comfort food and left very satisfied. They were running out of everything because you are served heaps of food even in the medium size. I had the salmon, peas & rice and cabbage and she had the curry chicken and the same sides, add two beef patties and two ginger beers and the damage was only $31 and change. The oxtail is about as good as you'll get without a Jamaican mother on most days but they rip you off. Especially the young African girl behind the counter with the hairy arms...She portions the food as if every scoop on your plate is one off of hers. I went here one time and ordered a large and small plate and they legit have the same amount of oxtail but there's a hell of a price difference. When Raphael himself is serving the food is the ONLY time you'll get decent portions as far as oxtail is concerned. I mean damn you charge $13 for the plate. I am only giving them 3 stars because they are inconsistent. Their food is always good but they always run out of something. If you go in at 5pm you will not get steak or any seafood dishes, all sold out. Went in there at 12pm and they didn't have cabbage? They just opened, how do you not have cabbage? Got a recommendation from a friend and decided to check it out on Saturday ...fairly busy place ...I ordered a medium oxtail plate ...beef pattie...and a ginger beer. Once I got home I was pissed ...medium plate of oxtail and there was about 4-5 pieces!!! Talk about cheap with the meat but want to charge $12-13!!!! Great food but they have terrible service. The guy making my food came from the back (no gloves mask hanging off his face) yelling at customer over the food. Raphael's always delivers. When I come the staff is always friendly and accommodating. I love the digital menu because it makes everything easier to read and allows me to see the full selection. When Rachel is there she always makes sure I'm taken care of and I see that she goes above and beyond with all the customers that come in. Beware of some of the old reviews, as some appear to be from the old restaurant before Raphael and Rachel took over and put their stamp on it. I have been to this restaraunt quite a few times. My issue is the inconsistency of the items available. I tend to want seafood dishes. That is my draw of coming to this establishment. There have been many times where I am told I would have to wait 30 or more minutes for my selected entree, which is inconvenient being I'm usually only in the area running errands. In my most recent visit, I was told they were out of shrimp at 3:30 in the afternoon. I don't understand how you can run out of an item with no intention of making more with over 6 additional hours of operation. When I do get my desired meal, I am satisfied.
