Went to an event catered by Jamaica Mi Hungry earlier this year and it was FANTASTIC! Every single dish was delicious and incredibly well seasoned. Some highlights: Garlic shrimp - these were huge and juicy with the perfect amount of garlic flavor. Having this on the rice and beans was heaven on a place and I had several helpings of this! Chicken - this was a little spicy for me, but that's just a personal preference. I could tell that this was well seasoned and people more tolerant to spice would love this - the chicken was still juicy and saucy. This also pairs well with the rice and beans! Plantains - nothing over the top but a nice sweeter bite to balance out the plate. Yummy! Mac n cheese - this was one I wasn't super crazy about - I think a bit more cheese would have been nice here but it wasn't a bad bite. All in all, 4/5 as there were some dishes that didn't blow me away, but the garlic shrimp with the rice and beans is to die for. I love Jamaican food so I try to venture out to Jamaica Plain as often as I can!! This unassuming, casual restaurant offers a wide variety of authentic Jamaican cuisine. Service was quick, seeing as you order from the counter. We ordered the jerk chicken plate with plantains and mac & cheese, and the oxtail plate with curry vegetable stew and rice & beans! The jerk chicken was tender and cooked nicely but wasn't the jerk flavor I was used to. It was a wet sauce instead of a dry rub and kinda tasted like teriyaki...? The plantains were normal, nothing crazy. Mac and cheese was lowkey yum, not too thick. Oxtail was better than the jerk chicken flavor-wise but the meat wasn't cooked as well. The meat didn't fall off the bone like other oxtail does :( The sauce was also a bit thin so it didn't coat the meat as well. The rice & beans were solid, had flavor to it and was even better with the sauce from oxtail. The veggie stew was good too but again, nothing crazy. Overall, I was very satisfied with my meal but unsure if I would go again. There are so many other places in/near JP that I would try first. This place is great. Came here on a saturday around opening time and got served right away! There's a good amount of seating in the restaurant and it filled up a bit more by noon. I got the jerk chicken with fried plantains and rice. The sides were freaking amazing. The fried plantains were so crispy and I could eat them all day. The rice was also delicious because it was a little sweet and had some coconut flavor too. The jerk chicken itself was great. It was more of a saucy jerk chicken instead of a dry rub, but it tasted really tender and flavorful. It was a little pricey for $~18, but I think it's worth it. Got Uber eats and it was so good!! Everything was hot (even the beef patty). It was my first time trying this spot and it was a great experience. I ordered the goat curry with stewed vegetables and a beef patty. The meal was $25 (extra $3 for the veggies) and the patty was $5. I'm currently working in the area and I heard good things about this place so I decided to grab a meal. This was my first time, but it certainly won't be my last. The location is super convenient, literally steps away from Jackson Sq T stop. You order/pay at the counter first, then the server goes down the line and scoops food into a takeout container. I'm not sure if it was always packaged like this pre-covid, but they seem to also be open for dine-in now as the chairs were set up. No one was dining in when I went though (~4:15pm on a Monday). I ordered the boneless jerk chicken, white rice, and fire roasted vegetables. The flavor is *chef's kiss* amazing. I'm no expert on Jamaican food so I can't speak to its authenticity or anything, but this is just objectively good and very flavorful. There are certain items as side that they charge extra according to the menu but I think I got charged for fries too even though they weren't stated extra. For every plate, only 1 was decently good. The steak was really bad and it was cooked medium. It was SO so tough so the choice steak was extremely cheap. The steam cabbage was so bland. The vegetable curry side was actually good. For the jerk chicken plate, the jerk chicken was stir dinner. It had good flavor and I enjoyed it. It wasn't anything outstanding though. It was also different than normal jerk chicken which is usually dry rub but this one is more saucy. Mac n cheese was terrible. Bland and absolutely not flavor besides cheese. I liked how the rice had a hint of coconut which complemented the savory chicken very well. The vegetables were roasted very well as you could taste the char on it. This review is actually for the Allston location, which I don't see on here yet, and from the website it's not totally clear if the Allston location is up and running yet. But I went there and they were definitely open. Mainly I wanted to try the coconut shrimp. I came from all the way across town for them and let me tell you they were WORTH IT. Big, fat, juicy shrimp, completely covered in coconut and fried until the coconut is all sweet and crunchy, while the shrimp are still juicy on the inside. Would make the trip again just for those shrimp. Also had the jerk pork shoulder, which I didn't like quite as much as the shrimp, but still good. Actually while the rice & beans were just okay on their own & the pork was okay on its own, combining them so the rice could soak up all the juices turned out to be an absolute power move. Would recommend. The dill slaw was cool and fresh, and the dill was a nice twist. Would pair well with any rich entree. The mac & cheese was just okay. I ordered through UberEats as I haven't tried much Jamaican food in Boston and I had seen the fairly solid reviews. I ordered the jerk chicken combo with rice and beans and brussel sprouts in addition to the mac and cheese. The chicken was fairly big as it was the breast but it was quite dry. There were some wings within the combo which were better but nothing too exceptional. The rice and beans were filling but nothing too exceptional. The brussel sprouts were probably the best part of the meal as they had good flavor. The mac and cheese were incredibly disappointing as it felt as though there was a lack of cheese/sauce and I was just eating cooked macaroni with sprinkles of cheese. I understand that it was delivered but the lack of cohesion between the flavors can not be attributed due to delivery or temperature, but rather, the mac and cheese not receiving a lot of attention. I'm leaving this review after visiting a 2nd time, both post-Covid. I love jerk chicken paired with mac & cheese, with some cabbage or yams. The first time I came here I was very impressed with the flavor and portion size. So I knew I'd come back. Today I went for the second time and I think there may be an issue with consistency here. I ordered the same thing for pickup, and I think that's where I went wrong. The portion sizes were significantly smaller and when I ordered the cabbage it just looked like it was a house salad they had sitting around and threw into the steamer (see pic below). I couldn't even eat the damn thing. I live about 20 minutes away from there so I was disappointed when I got home and found this. The menu has a variety of options, even for my vegan and veggie friends out there. Most meals were 12-15 dollars, with PLENTY of food. This place has been getting a little under-the-radar mention in various local publications, so we decided to check it out. Excellent! A very tasty and well-prepared fast serve menu served in generous portions. Lots of flavor as might be expected for Jamaican cuisine. Jamaica Mi Hungry has the look and feel of a generic local fast food or pizza joint which belies the well-prepared creative menu items. The environment is bright, clean and reasonably attractive -- the food is delicious, spectacular and absolutely wonderful. The food is prepared on an open grill and the chef seems quite skillful in making the various house specialties. We had the Jerk Pork Shoulder which was made with a amazingly intense sauce. Also the Pulled Pork sandwich which comes with a unique and spicy slaw and roasted plantains. Expect to spend $12 to $15 for an entree (with sides) or for a huge sandwich. Good for take out -- or just take home the portion which you can't finish. The location is next to the MBTA Orange Line Jackson Square station and has convenient free parking in back of the building, between it and the station. The entrance to the parking area is up the entrance driveway from southbound side of Columbus Avenue. (It looks like you're driving into the MBTA's busway but the parking lot entrance bears off to the left.) This is definitely a place to which we'll return. read more

The jerk chicken was GREAT but half of the container was chicken back which is essentially just bone. The mac & cheese was good (some dry parts) and tasted fresh. The sweet plantains were BEYOND oily but good once we poured & patted the oil out. The parts of the corn that weren't burnt tasted very good. I only went in for some beef patties and they are sooooooooo bomb it makes me wonder what have I been eating from other restaurants. the Flakiness on them bad boys and the explosion of flavor....so delicious. I heard so many good things about Jamaican Mi Hungry as a food truck, that I was super duper excited to see they were doing delivery through DoorDash. With that I'm really disappointed I am rating 1 star. I'm giving this rate for several reasons: 1. The curry taste like bad Indian food. I don't know if they are catering to their diverse neighborhood, or what but I go to an Indian restaurant for Indian food and Jamaican for Jamaican. Not all curries are the same. 2. Though the pieces of curry goat were large, there was so much fat. I inspected one piece thinking it was chicken because it was so white. 3. I requested extra gravy on my rice, but when it came no extra gravy (at the end this was a good thing because I did nibble on the rice). Good thing? The beef patty was good. But I live in Mattapan. I don't need delivery for that. It may take years again, but I hope to try them again, based off my girl's high reviews. If my opinion changes I will definitely update. read more
