After searching for a place to have my carry on suitcase repaired I discovered this marvelous shop. I called and spoke to the very kind owner who assured me that if the suitcase had only two wheels they could repair or replace the broken wheel. We took the chance to drive to Dearborn and boy what a wonderful shop and craftsmen we encountered!! The owner told us a bit about the 70 year old business that he inherited and introduced us to the other craftsman who had been with the company for 30 years. We knew we were in good hands when the owner showed us the wheels he would use to repair our "still good as new" Rei carry on. We paid the fee for the repair up front and the owner assured us he could get it done in a week. Sure enough we went back less than a week later and found our carry on looking better than ever! So.. it was one of those days where everything had gone wrong. Here, I was on the first day of a week-long work trip, I pack my bag, and everything is ready to go. Lo and behold, I go to collapse my retractable luggage handle on the way out the door in the morning, and it only goes down halfway. This is a DISASTER.. it's too late to turn back and switch bags.. and that bag was great - a Victorinox, strong, great in every way, fit in the overhead compartment .. until now. i was lucky enough to get the thing through the airport security and onto the underbelly of the plane even with the handle sticking out, but when I got to Detroit I headed straight to Factory Finish where they were friendly and extremely helpful. I was helped by Pete, who looked like the kinda guy who has fixed a million shoes, suitcases, and other odds and ends. He clearly had the experience and the tools to get right to the problem and figure it out. Sadly, the bag looked like it was broken.. but Pete creatively constructed a solution and my luggage is back to normal! Nothin like someone who can help you even when it looks like there's no solution. I'm not the kind of person to go raving about any old shop. Seriously, you really can't beat walking in off the street with a fully packed broken suitcase and getting on the spot assistance. I was impressed and grateful. read more

This small shop handles shoe, purse, leather, belt, shoelace, etc repairs and purchases. Cool shop, as they have a whole western shop in the basement and tons of western items around upstairs, too... I had some shoes repaired (the heel on one and side split on another). The turnaround time is swift and the repairs are inexpensive. My heels look like new. This place HAS to do good work because just in the couple of times I was inside, customers were constantly coming in dropping off or picking up items. The gentlemen working were very friendly, too. I just picked up two pairs of boots from Factory Finish and they look good as new. NEW I SAY! and one pair is 6 years old. I paid a whole lot more years back at Pete's shoe repair in Plymouth, and remember thinking upon picking up my $65 order, "I'd be better off just buying new boots!" This is the second time Factory Finish has exceeded my expectations! They are fast, cheap (only $10 to refinish a pair of riding boots, both leather and heel!) and really friendly! I couldn't be happier! I work on my feet and have no problem spending lots of cash on good boots and shoes. I like taking care of my "designer investment pieces" and it's good to know there is a place where they can get some lovin'. read more

After reading the great review for Factory Finish I took my daughters leather shoes there for repair. She's a student at U of M in Ann Arbor and walks a lot. I was unsure which type of sole I should get and the young man behind the counter was extremely patient and helpful. The soles I considered were leather or rubber. I chose rubber and later conferred with my daughter and that's what she wanted as well. She was ecstatic to see the quality of workmanship on her favorite pair of shoes. read more

So so impressed w this place. Stumbled upon them via Yelp and they deserve more than 5. My boots look brand new, we're finished same day even though he thought it would need about 24hrs. Should've taken a before and after of my boots bc they look like a whole new pair. The people working there are extremely nice and know exactly what good customer service. Factory Finish is a "western store" that sells hats, belts, boots etc. But what I love about the place is that they can fix most any piece of clothing or luggage that you have torn or mangled. I seem to end up there a few times a year and am always impressed by what they can do. Closed Sun and Mon. T-F is 9:00- 6:00 and Sat is 9:00- 3:00. read more

I brought in both a large suitcase and leather jacket for repairs. Not only were the repairs done quickly, but with high quality. The jacket in particular was a challenge, as it had a long tear at a seam......to look at it now, you'd never know it was torn in the first place. I discovered that one of my suitcases was broken when I was getting ready to leave for vacation & I was going to just throw it away & buy a new one but then I read the reviews for this shop so I figured it might be worth looking into repair first. I've had the suitcase just sitting around for over a year & couldn't use it so I finally got sick of looking at it & brought it in. It's a large suitcase that I've had for about 20 years with 2 wheels & the legs on the front that balance out the wheels had come loose from people using them as handles over the years. The gentleman who helped me was really nice, he took a peek at the suitcase, showed me what was wrong with it, told me how he could fix it & that it would cost $12. I certainly wasn't going to pass that up considering a replacement suitcase would run me at least $100!! I browsed around in the shop a bit & they have a great selection of western wear, some nice boots & hats, some purses & other leather goods. Had I not been on a budget I probably would have browsed longer, it's a gem of a shop that I definitely recommend for repair & for shopping. read more
