Kim V. Let me start with the good. She's super super sweet. I really like her personality and she's easy to talk to. I went to her to have my blonde roots done Since I've had bad experiences in the past, it's always dreadful to get my hair done by someone new. Once she started foiling my hair I learned she hadn't done color in many years due to a skin allergy to the chemicals. This freaked me out!!! You haven't done color in years???? What??????? So I trusted the process but then came time for a toner. She had to ask for help on what to mix and how to put it on. She said she's been doing hair since 1988 but she seemed awfully timid So I got a nice trim. She does a good cut. But as she blow dried my hair., all could see was black roots. Not sure where the bleach went bc I walked right outta there with massive roots still. So once again, bad experience with a stylist. See pics posted of my hair the next day :-( read more

My hair was done my Kim V. I just moved in the area and of course needed my hair done it was a mess from previous hairstylists. So the reviews here are definitely true! She definitely looks out for what's best for your hair and you! When I walked in it didn't exactly seem like a 5 star salon BUT don't let that fool you there are amazing people that work there and do amazing work! Wasn't messy. It was a very good experience! At a reasonable price too!! Which is the one of the best parts. I love my hair color and Kim V is definitely a nice lady who I trusted with my hair which I never really could say before about previous hairstylists I've tried! I loved my experience at Rapunzel's! I called at 2:30pm and they had a cancellation, so they were able to get me in by 4:00pm... so great! The atmosphere was laid-back, welcoming and not stuffy. Okay, so the ratings don't lie. At least, in Sunni's case. She. Is. Amazing!!! Since I've been in Carson City, after being in Hawaii for quite a while, it's been very hard to find a hairstylist that (1) I trust and (2) is competent. I mean, I'm on Yelp, of course I pay attention to the ratings because no one wants to leave with a God-awful mullet! Thank goodness for the highly rated Rapunzel's (love the name, btw), and how lucky was I to receive an appointment with Sunni, because really, most of the great reviews are for her. She even called me back to ask me specifics on what I was looking for and what I needed, which was a complication all on it's own. So my appointment arrived (damn good timing too), and Sunni got me into her chair and I gave her my spiel all over again. What I needed was for her to take the helm, er, the handles on her scissors, and make me mature/powerful/serious. I needed to look amazing for several interviews so that no one brought up how young I look or how cute I am or how feminine I seem. She was so patient in listening to me and my concerns and my needs for these upcoming interviews and she hardly missed a beat when she suggested a "Kelly Clarkson" look that added sophistication and sheen to my look. All the while that Sunni was snipping away, we were chit-chatting about my interviews, her work experiences, guys, etc. and not once did I feel like we were forcing the conversation, which was great. Most times that I've gone to a hairstylist that I don't know at all, the conversation is stunted and forced and entirely awkward, which makes for a slow, boring haircut. The difference is that Sunni is so down-to-earth and adorably, sweet (not in like a young girl way, but a just really good person way). I don't know yet if this haircut is the answer to my interview impression problems, but it's a start and I suppose only a call-back will give me an answer. Until then, Sunni is my "go-to" girl and I will definitely be back as much as I can to see her before I move for a job (hopefully). YAY!! Go see SUNNI!!! read more

I'm from Long Beach, CA and was in Minden for my wedding. I had originally thought I would dye my own hair, but the closer it got to the big day, the more I needed some serious pampering. 3 days before my wedding, I was feeling very desperate and called a bunch of salons in the area, but I just didn't get the right "vibe" from any of them. When Sunni answered the phone and I told her my dilemma, she was incredibly kind, understanding, and adjusted her schedule in order to fit me in. I am SO SO SO glad she did. I went in for a cut and color (to cover my roots) and I couldn't be happier with my new style. She did such a great job that I'm honestly a little scared to have anyone else cut my hair again. She told me that if I thought I needed to have my hair done for the big day, to give her a call. She had already been so kind and generous with her time for me, that I was very hesitant to ask. I texted her Friday night and she made me her first appointment on Saturday. She curled my hair and got be all done up, and I honestly could not have been happier with how it all turned out! Thank you so much Sunni! You made my whole experience so special. I guess I'll have to be up again in a few weeks for maintenance ;) The salon has a great vibe and is very well designed so that the client feels like they are getting a full one-on-one experience. If I lived closer, I wouldn't go anywhere else to get my hair done. read more

Best salon ever!!! I've lived in three different states and tried many salons including well known ones like Tony & Guy in Newport Beach, CA.. Rapunzel's is best hands down!! I go to Whitney Inmon. I've dark brunette hair and for a year - i decided i wanted it blonde hi and low lights - it was cheaper than anywhere else and it came out beautiful!!! Not orange like my past attempts have been at different places!! She takes her time cutting your hair and if you tell her something - she listens unlike most other hair stylists. Yay! I finally found someone who cuts my hair well! KIM VOLK (aka Kim V., or blonde Kim) knows he stuff. I had her cut my hair only (no coloring). I am very particular about my styling, and hair stylists don't usually have the right artistic skills. I told Kim V what I wanted, and she was able to give me exactly what I wanted. I have curly/wavy hair that I sometimes blow-dry straight. She even made some artistic cuts towards the end after she saw how my hair liked to curl on its own. She is hands-down amazing. I just show her a picture, or tell her to do whatever she wants to (but give her a color or a length) and I always look great when she is done! Megan keeps up with continuing education, and has been to several shows and conferences over the years. I always recommend her to friends and acquaintances, and they all love her! Poor Service for a First-time customer! They say you only get ONE chance to make a First Impression - this Salon had their chance. I called to get a price for a Perm for short hair - was looking for a new salon (having been stood-up twice by my previous one). Their prices were good, they were on my end of town, and I was excited to be able to get an appointment that same week! I was out running errands the day before, & came home to a message from Kim that she had some questions. (I figured 'new Perm', ?? about my hair.) She called back the next morning, before the appt., to let me know that she WAS SICK, but could still do the Perm if I wanted. Well, I really wanted to get it done, but after hanging up, the more I thought about it, I didn't want someone sick to be that close, breathing and coughing all over me - so I called the Salon back- and left a message that I wanted to cancel. At that point I probably would have rescheduled, but with someone else. I thought it odd that no one answered, so I called again to make sure they got my message. Kim answered the phone and I thought it was pretty obvious from what she said that she just didn't want to do a Perm that day, since she was there to work. So I never actually made it to the Salon, but this was a pretty big TURN-OFF for a new customer and I won't go back. read more

I am new to the area and was looking for a new hair dresser. I went on Yelp and read good reviews about the Salon Rapunzel's I stopped in and made an appointment with Kim V. Very nice lady, easy to talk to. But, unfortunately I got a really bad hair cut from her. Remember the hair cut that was popular in the 80's called a mullet? Well that's I got from her. My sides are very uneven as well. Also, I got a really weird vibe from the salon. The phone would ring and no one would answer it but Kim V, even when one hair dresser was just sitting doing nothing but reading her phone. Also, someone had stepped on dog poop and dragged it in the salon, I brought it to their attention and no one clean it up, until Kim V was done with my hair. So I will not be going back.
