In February, they have Hellebore Days on weekends (also open by appointment), where you can peruse over 40 varieties of Hellebores. Ahhh! I am always itching to get out in the garden (no pun intended!) this time of year, but it is so early and many nurseries aren't even open yet. Here, though, they are celebrating many of the most special winter blooming beauties. They are located fairly far from my home, so I called before heading out and the owner picked up right away and happily answered my questions about prices and what she currently had in stock. And she was just as lovely in person! I was interested in a particular variety of hellebore which she found for me, then directed me to some others that had a similar look. Then I just had a wander around and pretty quickly fell in love with several other plants. They have a beautiful display garden along with a sweet corgie, friendly tortie kitty, and even the teeniest most adorable little serama chickens. I could have spent hours there! I ended up with a couple hellebores, a unique and new-to-me variety of Sweet Box, a beautiful and incredibly fragrant witch hazel (in addition to the hellebores, they had the largest variety of witch hazels I have ever seen) and a nice size Chinese Paperbush that I just could not walk away from (if you know anything about them she is Akebono and she is gorgeous!). I left behind a purple daphne that I'm still kicking myself about. They have a wide variety of plants, but they do seem to have special love for the more shade tolerant and/or fragrant varieties. Prices on all were good to excellent. I believe they had three designated parking spots, but there was another grassy section that appeared to be used for overflow parking, and I wouldn't expect them to get super busy anyways (although by the time I left there were several other customers there). This was such a great little nursery and an absolute pleasure to shop, I will absolutely be back.

Campbell Farms is a little smaller than some of the other area growers that sell direct to…read morecustomers, but they are no less wonderful for that! They had a ton of tomatoes, many varieties with the cutest names that I've never even heard of (and I'm a bit of a tomato fanatic). Also big beautiful dahlias, petunias, and lantana. Lastly, a few herbs, currants and other bushes, and even some trees. Really, a great mix of goodies! I was delighted to find big, happy Green Globe artichokes for $5 each, plus a gorgeous and giant heliotrope that smells like a dream come true and looks too purple to be real. You are welcome to explore their greenhouses, but the retail space is where they have their choicest and best plants that are ready to go (some in greenhouses may still be growing, or it might be too early to plant the warm weather loving varieties). The owner was so lovely and helpful. They are also a century farm which I just find so charming. What an accomplishment and legacy!

Still just this one location makes it more than worth the drive. The front garden is absolutely lovely with little walking paths and a variety of flowers in all different colors. To the East, they have rows and rows of blooming peony fields that you are free to walk through. It's peaceful, smells amazing and makes for some really good photos. Did I mention it was free? I believe they were getting ready for an event the day that we visited, so we probably only spent about 30 to 40 minutes here but it was quite enjoyable. They had a good selection of potted peonies, cut flowers and other items for sale and they also had picnic tables. So if you wanted to bring a little lunch and just enjoy nature, it seems like they would welcome that. If you're in the area during peony season, this location is definitely worth the stop!

So I made my way to Tony's to stock up and get started. The staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Prices vary from reasonable to very expensive but that's to be expected with such a grand variety. This last season I lost a couple of small grasses and a couple of lupine to the hot summer heat but everything else looks great. The large hanging baskets that I put into the large pots on my deck were my favorites. I'll be back in the spring for more things to beautify my yard.

I heard they may have carnivorous plants. There was an entire greenhouse of succulents. They also had some carnivorous plants but were almost out of Venus Fly Traps. Just a couple lonely typical's hanging out. They have everything for your house and garden plants it seems. Lots of friendly staff walking around to assist customers. Not a big parking lot but it isn't small either. We kinda ran out of steam walking around and called it a day but we want to come back.
