havent had ethiopian food in a min and this truly just resparked all the joy of having it :') food was wonderful & so flavorful!! me and my sister shared the mercato & honestly its plenty of food for 2!! it came w whats pictured (+ we got extra lentils as a side) & we both got extra injera but that was maybe overkill--we could have gotten 1 extra and split it and i think it wouldve been perfect for the amt of sides we had. we also split the mixed sambusa side & definitely go w the lentil sambusas they are delectable. also our bartender was really helpful & attentive & i loved her. thank u for a wonderful first meal in nyc i would love to come back read more

Came here last night and ordered both platters, Sambusas and smashed avocado to share. My date and I definitely couldn't finish everything but both of us kept raving about how delicious every single dish was. I also took a chance being the fact that he's a big meat eater but it wasn't missed at all. The drinks were also really nice and the whole ambiance was beautiful. Most importantly, the service was amazing. Everyone in there was so kind and attentive. Really hope to be back soon. read more

Great place if your intro-ing Veganism! Great place to go with vegan friends! Great place to go if you like Ethiopian food. Great place to go period! The menu is made super easy for those trying Ethiopian food for the first time. It's broken up into entree's as well as platters, salads & smaller bites. Although the platters are meant for one (not like the typical Ethiopian style which is for a group of folks) it is still worth sharing and pairing with some smaller bites or salads. We went with the original Mercato platter, this one is more traditional and has more spice. We opted for a side of rice instead of the injera and enjoyed every bite of it! The Sambusa is similar to an Indian Samosa, light flakey pastry filled with savory veggies or lentils. We had some room for dessert and this really topped off the meal! The coconut cake was sooo goood. The crust was made out of a nut base, then creamy cool layers of coconut and cream reminded of a healthier more delicious version of the old school frozen coconut box cake you might find at the grocery store. The red velvet cake had deep flavors or cocoa and raspberry. Rich but not overpowering. Will definitely be going back! read more

This is some fantastic vegan food. It's also really good Ethiopian. All around delicious (if you like Ethiopian). I went with three other people and we shared the two taster platters and two sides. I don't 100% remember what they were called but they were really good. The yellow rice was also great. Everything came within 10 minutes of ordering, and tasted so fresh and delicious. Everything was tasty on its own, and together, they melded together for a fantastic symphony of flavors. For the four of us eating there it came out to 60 something dollars, which was a pleasant surprise when eating out in New York! As a side note, their brunch menu looks so freaking good, I will definitely be going back to give it a try. In terms of COVID, they are doing a pretty good job - wiping down, wearing masks and gloves, only outdoor dining. This might be the best Ethiopian I've ever had and I'm an omnivore. The 'beef' tibs were beyond incredible - super spicy, sweet and tender. Love a platter + one protein entree to share with another. The presentation is also gorgeous. Instead of a round plate, it's in a vertical pattern that fits on smaller tables. We were satiated and super happy! It's a good little walk away from me in Prospect Heights but the food is definitely worthy of the trek. The Mercado platter is tasty and includes a couple of spicy selections. The Trisome Berry dessert is equally delish and rich. One small slice is perfect for sharing. Been 3 times and always get the Mercato platter plus a main. The chickpea tofu kitfo was out of this world good. The mushroom tibs were also tasty, though a lot more onions than mushrooms in the box. Everything is excellent, supremely spiced, big round flavors. Only problem is that the portions are very small--but gone are the days when Ethiopian restaurants were great value for money. read more

Nice addition to the neighborhood... food is really good and comforting. I've brought a few friends here and they have loved it. I'm not a huge fan of sitting on the street, but that's the only option right now. They have made it cozy. I wish the GF injera was available last minute. Apparently you have to call a day in advance. I haven't been able to plan ahead yet, so I've just had the rice, but one day I will try it. Drinks are good as well! read more

Love this place! New-ish to the Franklin Ave strip, this Ethiopian and vegan restaurant is delicious. Plates are full of flavor you'd never know it's vegan even if you're a meat eater. This is "Americanized" Ethiopian food which is good with me. Some people would prefer it to be more spicy (as in Ethiopia) and served traditionally as in Ethiopia (no forks / you use the pancake to pick up the food). I like that the spices where toned down and you have a fork. They plate the food with an American aesthetic. Overall, a great meal. We ate outside on a beautiful day when the street was alive with people and people were just happy to be coming out of a long, pandemic winter. read more

Quality and details are exceptional...think greens cooked so they are still fresh tasting with a lovely green color...creative injera presentation (just take a look how they present it on the platters with the wavy cut out and the sides rolled with it)...attentive and genuinely kind staff. I got the Mercato Platter (misir, shiro, gomen, fossolia, atakilt wett) delivered to celebrate Ethiopian Easter. The packaging was perfect for saving leftovers without ending up with super soggy injera the next day, which is useful because they have nice sized portions. The food was tasty but the flavors in each dish were off for me personally. I grew up on traditional Ethiopian food, but if you are new to this cuisine I do no think this will bother you. read more
