We were craving some roti canai and found this spot with strong reviews, so we decided to check it out. Naturally, we ordered the roti canai and also tried the Hainanese chicken. The roti canai was excellent -- perfectly flaky, light, and just what we were hoping for. The curry it came with had pleasant chunks of potato that added a nice heartiness to the dish. The Hainanese chicken itself was decent, but what really stood out was the broth that accompanied it. The broth elevated the dish entirely and tied everything together beautifully. We came on a Sunday night and we were a group of 7 and 1 baby. The host was super nice and was able to seat us right away. The restaurant looks small but there was a downstairs area as well. We ordered a lot of food and everything was just amazing.: Roti canai - the roti was so satisfying, and the curry was spicy Salted egg prawns were fantastic - so crispy and flavorful. Somehow as myself being an Asian (from Hawaii), on these European trips, I must have rice once or twice (aside from the great tasting breads and pasta in Europe). Maybe fellow Asians, you can relate? They do not take reservations, so people line up outside. Luckily when we went, there were only about 5 -6 people ahead of us, and after a 15 min wait, we were in. Made reservations which I was fortunate. Definitely recommend. I had the Hainanese Chicken Rice and Broccoli with Garlic and the food was really good. I do think the rice by itself may have been too starchy but the broccoli was a great add. Service was very fast (less than 10 minutes from ordering I got food.) Only downfall if I have one is the kitchen doesn't time dishes per table so when the food is made it is delivered so I had my rice for a bit before I got my broccoli. The rare to find delicacy was also randomly one of the best deals I stumbled upon in London at ~$40 for this crabzilla, vs the last Singaporean chili crab I had in NYC for ~$130 that only offered a small dollop of roe. I grew up in Singapore and this was a pleasant taste of home. The interior is no-nonsense and service was charming since they aren't afraid to talk to you and crack jokes, which invokes a bit of the street food vibe especially with the colorful tables. Dinner can be expensive, but the lunch menu is good value. Definitely plan to visit again to try the laksa and get some more of that Sambal Kangkong Belacan. Shotgun review: Har Cheong Gai (Chicken Wings) - so tender and crispy with a great sweet and spicy sauce on the side. Little thing, but there were no drumsticks, which I loved. Teh Tarik - always good, no surprise. Roti Canai with Chicken Curry - Roti is always good so maybe I'm biased, but it really hit the spot. The chicken curry was really rich and I used it on my other dishes to bring them up a notch. Chili Sambal - make sure to ask for this on the side. Definitely levels up everything. Sambal Kangkong Belacan - I loved this dish. Basically super savory/spicy broccoli/bok choy. Unreal. If you don't like vegetables, prepare to have a big character growth moment. Seafood Wat Tan Hor - really good and salty/savory saucy noodle dish but also very filling (huge serving size). Unexpected winner in my book. Hainanese Chicken Rice - the holy grail of SE Asian cuisine and the thing I was looking forward to most. Unfortunately Rasa didn't hit the mark (my expectations are probably higher than most), but they were headed in the right direction if you just need to scratch that itch. read more

There is a que to get in and patrons are pretty slow but I only waited maybe 5 min as I was alone so it was easier for me to get a table . Came here for dinner on Monday night and we were seated very quickly. We ordered the Hainanese chicken, Char Kway Teow, Malaysian Hokkien Mee, and Nasi Goreng, and we really enjoyed all the dishes! We ordered nasi goreng, hainanese chicken rice, laksa and a dish of chicken wings. The food was delicious but not really as good as it was hyped up to be. The flavor of the nasi goreng was a bit bland and dull, frankly. It's all about the rice and the flavor since that is what the entire dish is about, so it was a bit disappointing. The laksa was good overall, but the shrimps were really dead... good shrimps are not over-cooked leaving it with a good crunchy texture. These shrimps were soft and mushy. Finally the hainanese chicken rice... our expectations were not high, but it wasn't the "wow" we hoped for. First, the meat consisted of thick pieces of chicken breast - for connaisseurs that's almost blasphemous for a hainanese chicken rice. Second, the rice had a bit of sauce added to it instead of being cooked in well-seasoned chicken broth. The flavor was ok, but no where near a 5-star rating. Finally, the condiments; the chili and soy enhances everything. None of these did the poor chicken rice justice. All in all an ok experience. We visited in April 2023. read more

Slurp, slurp! If that sound annoys you, you should not come here, because that's what you'll hear to the left and right. Right in Chinatown inside the old gates. Small, but staff turn the tables around quickly. Having a nut allergy, my options were a bit limited and curries were out of the question, but I found a noodle dish with chicken and shrimp, which I quite enjoyed. The chicken was soft, the portion huge and not overly salty. The laksa was also a super big portion, fish cakes, shrimp, tofu. No complaints here. My dish only had two shrimp and the Laksa had only one shrimp. Fish cake all at the bottom, would make more sense if fish cakes were broken up into pieces in the dish. Service is not the best, had to remind for water refill, given the wrong bill, our two main courses were served 15 minutes apart, which shows poor planning when executing the order. Water is served in these tiny little glass mugs, larger glasses would be better. Wait staff were only attentive when they decided that they wanted to give the table to someone else. Staff are not very forthcoming, won't refill water unless you ask, not ask if you want dessert, etc. Basic, no frills, but the prices are reasonable with plenty of options below 9GBP. When I was about to pay, the waitress hit the zero tip button herself before I had the chance to add a percentage, fine by me. The restaurant looks small and crammed at first, but there is seating downstairs also where the kitchen is below street level. The bathroom has the urinal literally right in front of the sink, which could make for some awkward positions if you are there with someone else. read more

My friend had Rasa Sayang bookmarked because of the Singapore Chili Crab and at £15.90, it was definitely a steal, considering these dishes normally are around $50. The four of us came in for a late dinner at around 9:30 on a Wednesday. Although it was late, there were still quite a few tables dining. I ordered the Char Kuay Teow with Hainanese Chicken. They really love soy sauce here because the chicken (which was dry) was drowning in it, and the noodles also had too much soy sauce. If they lightened up on it, then it has the potential to be pretty good - the noodles had a good consistency to it, and the overall flavor was great. I tried the sauce from the chili crab (was too lazy to actually have a crack at the crab), and it was flavorful. It had the perfect amount of spiciness to it, and the eggs made the sauce smooth and creamy. While I probably wouldn't come back for the noodles/chicken, I wouldn't mind having some of that chili crab next time! read more

( They can make it really spicy) 4. Egg fried rice :fluffy 5. Roti Canai: buttery. Love the curry! 6. Laksa: kind of hard to eat in the hotel room at Hyatt regency. Barely got utensils. Might have been better heated up/restaurant. Smells great though. 7. Mee goreng: salty and wont order again. All my orders from here are around 25 pounds give or take for 2-3 items. Not sure how much that was in USD but I was ok with tasting a few and then going off into the traffic/rain/ sight seeing. It is super convenient! So convenient, I've ordered it like 5 times. Food was quite good, to be honest, generous portion! We had chow kuey diao, fish ball noodle soup, Loh mee, and oyster omelette. All tasted quite good but obviously you can tell it was not a healthy meal (like any Oriental food, focus in flavour and heat). The milk tea was good too :) 4 stars because the kuey diao could see more meat/seafood in it, and the Loh mee can see a little more veggies. Maybe overall less salt too :) Certainly recommend though, especially in London this would be one of the rare gems for decent Asian food! read more

Small restaurant but it has a huge menu. I tried the Singapore Curry Laksa when I was here and the broth was very flavourful. It had a good taste to it and thick broth with the addition of coconut milk. Unfortunately, that was the only thing that was good with the curry laksa. The noodles were overcooked making it extremely soggy and the shrimp serving was a joke. I got 2 half of a shrimp of the size of a quarter (American coin size). Another thing that made it rather bland ( not the soup) was the fact that everything was probably cooked on a hot water prior to adding the soup thus making all of the other items tasteless. The shrimp, tofu, noodles had a bland taste to it. The wait staffs were friendly and quick. During a lunch rush, I was able to sit, order and leave within 30 minutes. I came here to try the chili crab, for a whole crab and 6 mantou, it was only £20, which is a pretty good deal in my opinion. It was good but messy dish, and as good as the fried mantou (fried brioche) was, I think I would've preferred to eat it with rice. I've never had the real thing in Singapore so cant tell you if it's any good in comparison but I can say that this didn't blow me away, hence the 3 stars.
