Singapore Garden are you taking the Mickey?? I've been your customer for some time but now I have to stop been one. Why??? Last night I ordered through Deliveroo some food. Roast duck barbecue beef etc. you charged me £16.80 for the combo. When the food arrived and I opened it I saw five microscopic pieces of duck and some thinly cut pieces of meat. I was appalled just by looking at it. I weighted the duck 40gm and the beef 45gm. Now if you are charging £16.80 I expect some more. On top of that the taste was bland that no matter how much chilli oil I poured onto it did not improve. The duck was the same. Tasteless. You should be ashamed to send out food that cost a fortune and in such a small pieces but on top of that you should be ashamed that it tasted Nothing like it should taste. Bland, no taste, nothing. I warn all of your future possible clients to stay clear of your restaurant because I feel I was "defrauded" by your arrogance. Thank you but no thank you. You have now lost a loyal customer. We went specifically for chilli crabs, and generally they did not disappoint. The dish was tasteful and fresh, although they didn't have the usual fried buns on the side to dip into the sauce. As we were hungry, we also had the pecking duck rolls which were great. Lastly, the seafood noodles in stone pot was also good, although possibly not worthwhile if you're having the other signature dishes. Service was great. They were prompt and polite throughout. The food is really below mediocre- soggy soft shell crabs, over fried spring rolls., and a really flat, sloppy, tasteless mess of me goreng. All three were fail. And I went there with such high expectations- for the price, which is Michelin star like, the quality was sub par. Any decent mom and pop shop would do better. Being Malaysian, I'm always searching for the perfect char koay teow, especially in a foreign land! So when Giles Coren no less described Singapore Garden's char koay teow as the best in London, I had to trek north of the river to find out. The restaurant is in an unassuming position in a parade of shops about 10 minutes walk from Swiss Cottage Tube station. It does draw many fans from afar though. I was able to negotiate a single table in the early evening - be sure to book at weekends as they book up fast. Service was friendly and fast. The char koay teow was very good and although there are now a whole flurry of Malaysian restaurants opening in Chinatown, this may still be the best in London. I shall have to return for the rest of the menu - there are the usual British Chinese restaurant staples but also a good range of south east Asian dishes, including many hawker dishes. read more

Really good random find. After movies at the odeon Swiss cottage, we were hungry for dinner. Thanks to yelp, we found Singapore garden was 7 mins walk away. When we got there, the place was really busy. There were quite a few big parties celebrating birthday. We were quickly seated and they brought us drinks. We ordered lobster, friend Kwai dui and fried morning glory (spinach) with chili prawn sauce. The lobster was fantastic, we got the ginger and scallion sauce. Noodles was really good and authentic. They were both very enjoyable. The veggie ended up to be ok for me but too spicy for my bf. This place is definitely worth coming back for!! read more

Hrm. I tried the Fried Kway Tiow (I assume that's the dish Yee gan O suggested) and it was a little above average. I felt it lacking that extra punch to make the dish perfect. It tasted quite similar to pad kee mow (a thai dish) The dish recieves some extra credit for having hearty sized prawns..and some crispy pork fat. In other news, the restuarant was beautiful, and the price range seemed acceptable for the portion I was given. I'd go back..just felt a little let down overall. read more

The first time I went, I thought it was ok, but a bit pricey. But lately, I've decided that the convenience of having pretty authentic Singaporean food a walkable distance away is worth it! They can get busy, especially for dinner, so worth booking more than a day in advance. I do think the char kuey teow is the best thing they do. However, we also have our standard. Our other standards for ordering when going in a group are the sambal kang kong, teo chew meatballs (aka ngor hiong, really more like a fried meat spring roll), soft shell crab, and some greens, like kai lan with garlic. I've gotten the pi pa tofu, and it's fine, but not a favourite. I would be wary of straying off the Singaporean/Malaysian specialties page unless you know it. The one thing that should be better is the laksa. It's too curry. For nonya laksa, go to C&R in Chinatown. The service is very friendly and pretty quick. They do delivery in the evenings, but if you have a hankering for lunchtime, you can call and do takeaway. read more

When Yee Gan calls, you just have to answer, especially when he's inviting you out to try a Malaysian restaurant he swears by. Since a few of my close friends live just around the corner from this place, I'm quite surprised I've never been before. It is slightly non-descript and Swiss Cottage isn't the first place that comes to mind when I think Malaysian food, but the people behind Singapore Garden know their stuff when it comes to food. YGO took the lead and ordered up a variety of mains: Roti Canai, Beef Rendang, braised duck, and some sort of noodle dish. The rendang was impeccable with a thick rich sauce coating such tender pieces of beef that they flaked at the touch and melted in your mouth. The sauce had that full bodied mouth feel that lingers for minutes after each bite and a deep slightly smoky spiciness that was incredibly addictive. The duck was tender and juicy while the noodles, while good, didn't really stand out in my mind. The roti canai was absolutely fanatastic and is one of those dishes I could eat at any time. Essentially, it's a bowl of curry sauce and freshly fried flatbread (very similar to the Indian version of the roti). The curry was hot and spicy with bold flavours and just enough weight to cling to the roti. The roti itself was fresh off the pan with glistening butter soaked layers just begging to be eating .How could I resist? Drinks wise, they do boast a full bar with some interesting options. In particular, the 25ml serving of Johnnie Walker Blue Label for £10 caught my eye. Now this stuff is usually in bars for around £40-50 per 50ml serving so this was a relatively good price. Given that bottles cost around the £100 mark, I don't see them making much profit on this but I'm not complaining. The thing I will complain about is the amount of ice they put in my glass despite my request of just one ice cube. I had to dig that out in a hurry before it diluted it beyond tasting. Now it may just be that I didn't have it the right way (or it may be such an old bottle that the flavours had faded), but I don't see the allure of Johnnie Blue when a bottle of Glendronach or Laphroaig can be had for significantly less. But that's beside the point. Thus, come for the food, enjoy yourself, but aim to get your drink on somewhere else. Pricewise, it was reasonable with food, drink and service coming to £27/person which ain't too bad given the location and the amount we ate. read more

This restaurant is popular with wealthy people in the area because it has been around for a long time. It hails from the era of traditional Chinese restaurants and sort of kept up to date by having a slightly modern decor. However this lack of change but with new materials has given it a nostalgic following. The food is good, but oily and sugary like Chinese food used to be before people became more health conscious. Sadly years ago I would have given this 5 stars, but it has fallen behind. Most of all it now has 3 stars because some of the junior staff can be apathetic, disinterested and most of all a bit vicious which is not conducive to the prices they charge. Having come here for so long, I take no pleasure in writing this review. This place will continue due to it's very long period of built up patronage, but eventually, at this rate, even if it takes many years, it will be used up. It was the bordering on offensiveness of a couple of staff that prompted me to write this and has sadly made this place loose my very long standing goodwill. read more

A great neighborhood eatery near King's Crossing. A fusion of Singaporean and Chinese food. I had the Hot and Sour Soup with chicken and shrimp for a starter and my main dish was Singapore Noodles (like drunken noodles) with Shrimp, pork, egg and many other complementary things. Both dishes were excellent and provided a nice flavor of Singapore. As I have been there many times, I can appreciate food that is close to the original. I would have had the Chili Crab but it was a bit expensive. For our two dishes; we ate for under 30 pounds. On a Friday night at 7:30, it was packed and only continued to be active as the night went on. We were able to find a place outside and that was fine as the weather was pleasant. People were attentive and pleasant. My only comment is that the food could have been a little spicer but that should have been an instruction I could have provided. Great Chili Crab my favourite dish from this restaurant. I am from Singapore and the Chili Crab served here is almost authentic! The rest of the dishes are have a quite a lot of Malaysia influence especially the vinegar pig's throttle. This makes me wonder why it is called Singapore Garden instead Malaysian Gardens. Overall quite a pleasant place, the price is relatively reasonable but on the high side, about £30 per person for quite an amount of food. Wow - this restaurant dishes out quality like its going out of fashion. They have it just right. The Waitresses wear traditional Singaporian/Malaysian dress, the decor is lush and the food just tastes out of this world. I ordered the ginger chicken, aromatic duck and chilli beef and two beers. Total was £33 so this restaurant will hit your wallet if you're close to pay day. However the taste was divine; it tasted healthy, with a well balanced mix of spices. Totally recommend this restaurant for taking your partner for a date or a family meal where you know you'll get good service in an authentic surrounding. read more

I'm kinda baffled by the onslaught of 3-star dirt-dishings lined up here in this Qype review section. Are you sure you guys have got the right restaurant? Singapore Gardens Chinese restaurant next to the big roundabout at the bottom of the hill behind the Swiss Cottage tube station? Are you sure? Singapore Gardens are at the top of their game. Their food is quite simply top-notch. I've tried quite a few dishes, and all of them were 10/10. Have you tried the Sweet N Sour Pork? It's almost perfect. These guys have got their act sorted, from both the decor aspect, to more importantly, the food aspect. There's supposed to be some sort of Malaysian theme going on, but I've never really delved into that side of things. Check out their specialty menu, it's loaded with the stuff. I tend to just stick to my favourites, which are consistently of high quality, each and every time. The only real problem I have with Singapore Gardens, is their appalling delivery service. They hire this independent delivery company (so they said on the phone) who charge a fee to deliver the food. A few years ago, they had a strict mileage radius rule which I think was a 1-mile catchment area, and anything outside this entailed the extortionate fee. Now the fee is standard, even within this catchment area. It really bumps up the final bill, but more so, relegates SG to the 'special occasions' category, when it ought to be in the 'anytime' category. We've never paid anything less than like £70 for a meal for two, and that's food for 1 1/2 persons, not 2. It's expensive. Definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants in London; straight 5 across the board; a guaranteed good meal. read more

The food is... fine. The flavors were good, but some of the ingredients were blah. I think it's overpriced for what it is, but I think that about most East Asian food in London. Roti Chanai 6.90? I can make roti at home for under 50p, seriously? Their ho fun isn't fresh, it was reconstituted (and for too long) so that it was mushy instead of having a nice chew to it, I did like the assortment of meats and fishballs that came with it though. The bf ordered crispy beef and they were so thin it was all batter and no beef, thanks. Hah, I did enjoy the waiter who commented to another waitress that someone must have taken off their shoes because he could smell the stink. Didn't enjoy the mandatory gratuity. read more

A really great meal and a very lovely waitstaff and hostess. It was a Saturday night and I had no reservation so I had to wait but the hostess was very accommodating and saw that I had a nice table when one opened up. I had the top hat starter which was delicious. I never knew bamboo shoots could be so yummy. Then took the waitress recommendation and ordered the Singapore Fried Mee Hoon noodles. Really tasty. I would def order again. Ended the meal with the Toffee bananas. A great and tasty way to end the meal. Can't recommend those three dishes enough. What a find this little place is! read more

I came here with a few Singaporean friends for a relaxed Saturday lunch. We ordered classics like laksa, Hainanese chicken rice, clay pot prawn and scallops, and egg tofu with crab meat. Everything was great, and the Hainanese chicken rice received exceptionally high praise from the group. The food came out very quickly (we were one of the first diners after the restaurant opened) and well presented. And everything was very affordable as well (the benefits of dining in zone 2!). We had dessert of mango pudding and fried banana and it came to less than 20 pounds a person. I would definitely come again! read more

They leaned us and whispered (maybe chinese language). when I asked where is toilet, then waitress cutting me off- even not look at me- just point the door. We not finshed our meal, sauntered around our table and ask again, "Finsh?"they Seems trying to kick out us. It was really uncomfortable, so we quickly eat and leave that place. Probably the last surviving authentic Malaysian/Singaporean restaurant in London! Genuine recipes with Asian favourites such as Prawn Mee (soup) Noodles, Char Kway Teow, Laksa, and even Kuay Pie Tee. Oyster Omelette isn't too great but if you want to eat healthy then order the amazing Steamboat (fresh food cooked in boiling broth tableside).. it's incredible. An upmarket Chinese restaurant. It was recently rennovated and according to reliable sources (my mum and dad) it looks much better now. Always jam-packed with clientele, which you won't be surprised about once you start sampling the dishes. Everything is good, so I can't recommend one thing in particular - you can't really go wrong. Although I wasn't a huge fan of their vegetarian spring rolls - not really stuffed full of vegetables and had a bit of a weird taste - so if spring rolls are an important part of your chinese culinary experience, go to Goldfish instead. Very slow and rather disinterested. The food was acceptable - but not excellent by any means. Made a mockery of the lovely surroundings and high prices. Not impressed. Myself and my husband visited Singapore Garden for a quick pre theatre bite to eat on a Friday evening. When the bill came, as is becoming customary, a 12.5% service charge had been added automatically. We paid by credit card and I asked for the charge to be taken off the bill. Our plan was to leave 10% in cash - an amount we thought more reflective of the average service and also in the hope that a cash tip would actually make it to the pocket of the waiters. The manager was called over and she proceeded to tell us in no uncertain terms how disgraceful it was that we weren't going to pay the charge as the money went to pay the waiters' wages and that if we weren't prepared to pay the service charge she suggested that we eat at home in the future!!! We were totally gobsmacked!! So rude!! Anybody would have thought we were refusing to pay the whole bill, not a discretionary payment!! A very embarrassing situation especially as all of the tables in the restaurant are very close together (uncomfortably so if you ask me). Needless to say we left without leaving any tip at all and as we passed the manager at the front desk she muttered 'disgusting' under her breath - great customer service!! All in all a distressing experience which left us with a very sour taste in our mouth. Anyone eating here can expect ok food but very overpriced. Make sure you pay the tip in cash as it seems to me that there is some dodgy practice going on with the service charge. read more

The food itself was 2-2.5 stars, but the service, of Are you kidding me?? levels, brought the overall rating down to one star. We couldn't get a table at Atariya next door (fresh fish and always service with a smile), so we tried Singapore Garden instead. After several attempts to reach someone on the phone (have they ever considered call waiting??), we had to resort to booking through the website. Upon arrival, we were admonished by the hostess a role that would have been better served by mute troll than this woman that we should have made our reservation over the phone. We explained that we tried several times but the lines were busy. Repeat conversation, ad nauseum. Finally, after the 5th iteration, the hostess said we were lucky we got a table and Next time, try harder to make a reservation over the phone. Had it not been so cold and were we not being joined by two friends, we would have left at that point. I have never met with such a rude attitude by a host or hostess of a restaurant. We were a party of four, and we were surprised that there were at least five tables of four empty throughout the entire evening, which made the unjustified bashing we received by the hostess even more unjustified. The food was disappointing, with a mishmash of Oriental cuisines some Chinese and Thai dishes mixed in among the Singaporean and Malaysian. The chili crab came drowned in an overly sweet sauce, and the beef radang was dessicated. The curry sauce that came with the roti chanai was decent, but service aside, we would never return here again. The best parts of the restaurant were the white tablecloths/cleanliness and the toilets. Not worth a trip, and if you happen to be in the neighbourhood, consider Atariya instead. Even KFC at Swiss Cottage will save you facing a rude beatdown by front of house staff. read more

So many restaurant choices in London! I was given a recommendation to Singapore Garden by a local resident and wasn't disappointed. For starters, I chose the Chiew Yim Spare Ribs, bite size ribs dry roasted rubbed in salt, garlic and spices. Salty and wonderful. My main dish was the wasabi prawns, and they came in a rich, slightly hot creamy sauce, with plenty of greens. Absolutely mouth-watering. My only complaint wasn't with the food but that I was put next to a very loud couple in an otherwise empty restaurant. They also seemed concerned that I would be finished in a timely manner - 90 minutes, which is plenty for a single diner. I'd heard they fill up around 8:00 p.m. so if you want to come without a recommendation, 5:00-6:00 p.m. is best. read more

The food is very delicious and authentic. I live in Singapore before and the food reminds me of what I ate there. However, the older Singaporean woman at the reception (perhaps she is the owner) is very racist. She smiles at westerners and ignore Asian customers even though she herself is Singaporean! How sad! That's why I give it a 3 stars because service is disappointing. I used to go since my hubby discovered it a year ago but we have enough of the Singaporean racist. no longer a customer. read more
