Mike A Uyeki, MD - UHC says Dr. Uyeki is a Network Doctor for 2019, but this office says they are not.

Dr. Uyeki does not take United Health Care Insurance anymore even though UHC's website for 2019…read moresays that he is in Network for 2019. The Dr. says that they have not been with UHC for years but UHC says otherwise. This doctor is very selective about the types of insurance he accepts, and the plans in each insurance company he accepts so before coming here I would first call the insurance company to confirm and then double confirm with Dr. Uyeki's office. This can change year by year so always check each Jan 1 as doctors dip in and out of insurance networks. This Office is closed on Thursdays. They speak fluent Japanese here and that clientele makes up a large part of their practice. This Dr. also does not do x-rays in office anymore but does do blood draws and then sends them out. He used to take blood and x-rays and develop them in office--no more. On my most recent annual exam in 2018 on a Friday, he called me the next day on a Saturday to say all the blood results are okay that he had results on before all were completed. By the following Monday the rest of the results were in but he did not call again to say those were okay--I suspect because there was no problem. But after looking after all the results I saw that one test was not ordered that usually is every year (PSA) so I called the office to report that and they got it tested that week. He did not call on that result, I guess because it was okay. The long and short is that with the way medicine is practiced in Los Angeles for years and the influence of Insurance Companies--you need to be very proactive and keep records to compare on your own. The blood draws here are professional and leave no mark. You have to pay for parking in this building. The staff is pleasant. If you don't have insurance, they do take cash--call and ask them for a quote. This office is part of Cedar Sinai and if they refer you it will most likely be to a Cedar doctor.

When he walks into the exam room, he always starts by asking me how life is going and recalls details I've mentioned during previous visits. He listens attentively when I tell him about symptoms I've been experiencing and plans out clear, logical steps to address them. Anytime he's referred me to be tested for something, he's followed up with me about the results within a day or two of the test. He's smart, genial, and well-connected to great specialists around LA. I totally trust him to manage my healthcare. If you live in the West LA area and are looking for a primary care physician, you can't do any better than Dr. Uyeki.

He put me on 5 high pharma doses of Vic C drips within 2 weeks, told me I had to start eating protein/meat, ( I was a vegetarian for 25 years), and to take Vit D 5k, forever, basically. I followed his advice, and was not sick for five years. Nothing. Not even the flu, when all of my kids, (students,) and the staff were sick. Tragically, five years later, I would get this facial that was promoted in LA as, "Natural,' for skin toning. (Be careful ladies, it's a clever ruse,) and I got sick.. I could not understand why I had this three month abx resistant cough. It was from this device that turns out is a sonic nuke, and I needed steroids. I stayed in critical condition for almost 2 years, unable to get help, which resulted disability and an acquired brain injury, severe agony, and almost death. Dr. Gruenn had retired for a few years, during this time. He would have been my captain, and sent me to hospital, or a derm, and neurologist, and followed up on this, and not let me slip through the cracks as all of the other doctors did. Kaiser wanted to remove my friends stomach, and I sent him to Dr. Gruenn, just as my friend had sent me. He was in a lot of pain. Dr. Gruenn figured it out in 3 visits. It was Gluten. The hospital was about to remove a big portion of him, and he dodged that bullet, because of Gruenn, He seriously needs to be cloned. He is extremely quick and talented. I can't speak highly enough about him. Highly, highly recommend.

I wanted to save people time, because it doesn't mention that here or on his website, and I think it would be helpful to make this information public. No doubt the doctor is helping a lot of people, and doing a great job of it. I'm sure his current patient are grateful to have access to his support.

His attention to detail, care, compassion, patience and determination to get to the root of the problem, are just some of the reasons why I'll never go to anyone else again. A friend of mine highly recommended Dr. V to me because I had a multitude of little issues that a doctor (who did my physical for my life insurance) told me I have. He said I had things like thyroid imbalance, Vitamin D deficiency, etc. With two young children, I started to worry that if I left it unchecked I could become really sick one day. I felt a responsibility to my children to get answers, so I called and made an appointment at Regenera Medical with Dr. V. My first appointment with Dr. V was more than an hour long. During that visit, I quickly spit out my medical history, because that was what I had become accustomed with other doctors - who would often cut me off and were almost always dismissive. Dr. V's super cool and calm manner helped me relax and for the first time I felt like I was really talking to a doctor who was actually listening and caring. I had never been to a doctor where I didn't feel rushed because he/she had to get to his next patient. I could see I had his undivided attention. Towards the end of the visit, he drew blood from me (himself!) and ordered a very thorough set of blood tests in order to find out what was really going on with me. I came back a few weeks later to get my results, only to learn that I didn't have ANY of the issues the other doctor told me I had. I was so relieved to know that I didn't have any significant medical conditions. I would have been happy to walk out of the appointment then, but Dr. V still took his time to walk me through some suggested practical lifestyle alterations to help me maintain my health and feel energetic throughout the day (not easy with two little kids). I read his website and learned that he can even tell you if you might get Alzheimer's, and can suggest ways to slow down the development of the disease, or avoid it altogether! I will now be going to him for my yearly check up, for sure!

They do this to extract $ from you so you won't be "surprised" when they charge you money for asking a question at the annual yearly exam. So I wait 6 more months, the doctor remembers nothing about me and has an attitude of "why are you even here" because I'm healthy looking etc. It was such a waste of time. My doctor also seems miserable and overworked. Isn't helpful when I reach out for medical clearance via the portal either. My video call was in 2025 so that charge didn't even go towards this year. I wish they had clearly informed me more about the process of establishing care because I would've conducted myself differently if I understood. Now I don't even want to come back here I feel completely unwelcome and disregarded. I'm a cancer survivor that does need to do various follow ups but "my" doctor could care less about me. Sad

I have been morphing to a vegan diet, so I brought her the book I'm reading "Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Furhman, and she was fine with me continuing the food plan, and said she will peruse the book and monitor my progress. She sent me up to the 3rd floor for the blood work, very easy in this wing of the medical center. There was only one person waiting so I got in and out right away. UCLA Medical Center is the most practical and convenient medical practice I have ever been exposed to. When you're in their system, anywhere you go they can pull up all your records and see what's going on. And they usually send you a follow-up review request so you can let UCLA know how you liked your visit. The only unfortunate issue in this visit had nothing to do with the medical center and that was that my appt happened to be on the day after there was an underground explosion on Westwood Blvd., and the entire intersection by the medical center was closed! Luckily I know how to cut through the university so was only delayed a few minutes. Talk about your news trucks all over the place! UCLA Medical, you rock!

Anyway, I appreciated Dr. Alice Agzarian's candor, and feel relieved that I selected her on the basis of a recommendation of some random stranger in line with me at the Costco Pharmacy to be my primary care physician for the purpose of my HMO. During my visit with Dr. Agzarian, I interacted with several of her staff members, all of whom I found to be really pleasant. And I only spent a few minutes in waiting, bonus! One note: Dr. Agzarian does not prescribe birth control, which is fine, as I've always had that taken care of by my lady-specialists. But if you like your GP to handle your non-baby needs, she's not the one for you.
