Really nice layout, excellent condition when we played in July '26. Even pot bunkers, a la Scotland courses, offered a nice challenge.

Im gonna save yall some time, the golf course had good views, especially hole 3, but the course itself is in terrible condition. The greens are all chipped but and has lots of holes in them. Amazing weather, great company, beautiful but...pace if play was painstakingly slow! For a weekday play, we waited 5-25 minutes at times to tee off. Needless to say, I didn't finish all 18 as I hadn't plan to be there for so long. I will definitely be back, but this time will plan additional time. Playing in a scramble and this course delivers. The greens are almost fully recovered after aeration. The clubhouse looks great. I noticed the bunkers have been dug deeper. It reminds of St. Andrews!! This course sets up really well and is a formidable golf challenge. read more

This was my first visit to Raspberry Falls in Leesburg in a very nice community. This Gary Player designed course was in great shape. This is a place where you don't want to get in the sand. Included in your round is 18 holes, cart and range balls. They have enough carts that everyone in your foursome could have their own cart. I don't recommend walking this course it's long and the distance between holes is long plus they have a 14 minutes between holes policy. The beverage cart makes frequent loops. A great day of golf. You may here gun fire during your round because this is a golf & hunt club. One thing, they need a bigger parking lot. read more

What's going on at this place. This summer they were charging $175 on the weekends??? That is crazy This place is not worth their price tag. Tee boxes were in bad shape, the bridge on 18 hasn't been fixed in over 4 years, fairways not taken care of, and now you don't even get range balls in the greens fees. It's a "nice" golf course but, it's honestly ridiculous what they're charging for here. There's many other courses in the area, do not play here until there are some changes. read more

Great Course at a good price. Fairways and greens are in very good condition. I like the club house. It is conservative but very inviting. Food is very good and a good selection of beer. Played 11/14/21 with the guys. Course is in GREAT condition for this time of year. Greens are fast and smooth. Nice customer service from all employees, especially Jeff (starter). We booked a threesome for a round of 18 on a Sunday. The course is stunning but they added a 4th player to our 3 and they stacked two players immediately before and after us. We had to get ton know our 4th and had to deal with an exceptionally windy day. We are not PGA players parring every hole but we are not beginners. The ranger came by multiple times to "remind" us the expectations are 14 minutes per hole. That really took the fun out of our very expensive round of golf. Achievable with 2 players but stressful and not at all fun with 4 players. I stopped playing on the 5th hole because off this so we could achieve this nonsense of 14 minutes per hole, wasting my money and my day. I 100% will absolutely never golf here again. It is a very pricey course. If you are PGA level you will love this beautiful course. If you are walking the holes or just an average golfer, they don't want you here. Your money clearly isn't good here. read more

Had a great day playing golf last weekend at Raspberry. I have been playing there for quite a few years and really enjoy the course. Based on all the rain we have had this year, they have done a good job in keeping the course in the best condition that can be expected based on the weather. I know some people get frustrated about the conditions and I have to say in the height of the summer it does get a bit rough there due to the amount of play. But overall the course is in very good condition, is always well kept and the play is good, plus the views are spectacular. read more

Sadly the conditions are still horrible. Tee boxes are sometimes half dirt, and 3 and 18 are still long wispy rough. Not ideal to hit driver out of the rough. The fairways are good in certain areas and dried, cracked dirt on others. Greens are better than they were a couple of years ago but are still not good. Some of the bunkers are downright unplayable, some are in good shape, and a couple just need a little TLC. I know they had a tough year, everyone did. But this place is in the worst shape of any high-end track in the region. It's not even close. Course is still a great track. Most of it is in front of you. The routing and mix of holes are fantastic. A few stand out holes as well. The tee box on #3 has one of the best views in the area. It usually plays firm and fast and can be tough at times. Course is not walkable as there are a few long expanses between holes. Putting green is a joke and it has been for years. Too sloped and they cut the grass so tight that they have lost half the grass on it. Driving range is fine. Newish mats but they use the crates to store golf balls which is another annoyance. I have been here dozens of times and have never hit off the grass. Chipping green/bunker area is pretty good on the other side. People who work here are great overall. They seem to really enjoy their job. This place has fallen on tough times but I usually wind up back here at least once a year because it's one of my favorite layouts. Also the food choices in nearby Leesburg are fantastic. read more

I have to agree with the other reviews--this place is going down hill. On the plus side, they have made some nice bunker replacements, including the front, steep pot bunker on the first hole, as well as the pot bunker on the front of the 11th hole. However, there are SO many other bunkers that are just trash. Hard packed sand that looks more like a dirt road than a bunker, including that garbage red clay bunker on the 16th. But overall, it's a shadow of its former self. The greens are still fast, but aren't rolling as true as years past. The tee boxes are meh, with several needing a bit of TLC. The fairways were nice, I will say that (at least from what I saw). But here's something that they have started that really irks the crap out of me: THEY NOW CHARGE FOR RANGE BALLS. This is a serious WTF, Raspberry. You're billing yourself as a premium golf course with three digit weekend greens fees, and you're charging extra for range calls? You're literally the ONLY place greedy/stupid/arrogant/ignorant enough to charge over $80 a round and then tack on a fee for warming up. I used to play here fairly frequently, but I will definitely be scaling back. Once a top 5 course for me, this place is trending down quickly, especially with so many other options. read more

I have played here one or two times per year for over a decade for an annual boys outing. The course is nicely laid out but the conditions are almost always compromised. As others have said, sand traps are muddled with clay so they play heavy when wet and rock hard when dry. Tees are often struck with blight. The greens are always difficult as they place the holes on slopes and cut the often diseased grass close. Every year at least 1/3 of the holes are cart path only. The clubhouse is nice but sparse in luxury and character. In the past there have been multiple years with a surly marshal who would spare no insult to move players along - I havent seen him for several years. read more

First time here in 10 years. Purchased a $100 gift card for my son to play here since he has always wanted to. Both of us were extremely disappointed. The condition of the course was less than poor. The greens are in pitiful condition and most of the tee boxes are weeds and mud. Paying an $85 greensfee was an insult. I'll never return. Sadly, this course used to be great. Much better (and cheaper) options in the region. Wish I could post pictures on here. Stay away. Courses in Front Royal and Winchester offer much better values and conditions. read more

I played Raspberry Falls this morning and it was a fantastic day. This is only my second time playing it this season but I have played it about 50 times over the years. The staff were super friendly, facilities were clean, range balls were new, golf carts were spotless with clean towels, the starter gave us notice and then we hit the course. The greens were recently punched but in good shape. The bent grass fairways and tee boxes showed a little stress. However, I have played most of the NOVA courses this summer and every single course w/ 100% Bent is dealing with the same challenges. Many of the poor course condition reviews here are invalid. Raspberry falls has one of the best layouts in the region and is in very playable conditions. Today I rolled the ball out of a few bare spots and placed it onto perfect turf. How is that so difficult. The course I played today was in great shape and staff and facilities were even better. Thanks Raspberry. read more

I played this course today for the first time in several years. Wow, it has really gone downhill! The course conditions rival that of a muni, the fees are aligned to a top notch daily fee course (which it it not), and the pro shop staff was all business with no pizazz. This was a very disappointing overall customer experience with one exception: the grilled chicken club sandwich was outstanding. It will be at least several more years before I return. read more

Avoid this course. The course is overpriced. The layout is gimmicky. The sand traps don't have sand in them. It's like hitting off concrete. The pin locations are put on slopes. Remember when Phil Mickelson putt his ball while it was still moving. That is this course in a nutshell. You won't enjoy yourself if you come here. I have never been to more awfully managed golf course in my entire life. The pace of play was OVER 5 HOURS and the "Marshall" couldn't have been more disrespectful. There were multiple holes where 3 foursomes were backed up on the tee and the club did nothing to help. I can assure you I will never be returning to this golf course. read more

I am a totally biased, golf-obsessed creature. And if I like you, I am pretty sure you have to shoot my sister to get me to change my mind. I worked here back in 1998 for half a summer just to get my handicap down and wait out the time between being hired at my next grown-up job and the start date (I have my priorities and bank account in order, so I can take a luxury like that fifteen years ago). I fell for her hard hook, line, and sinking a forty footer. Nothing has changed. Service, views, layout, challenge...all good. Like every course in the DelMarVa, it's busy and pricey. But if my buddies call me up and say we have a tee time at Raspberry, I am all over it like white on Republicans (or Asians on Raspberry). The eighteenth is reason enough to play this beast. Such a fun hole. A risk/reward par five off the mountain, next to the eponymous falls, and then across the creek to the green. Great freakin' hole. Don't plan on walking. Bring your best game. Take some extra time to enjoy the range. Take even more to have a beer afterward. The "mountains" affect almost everything. Putt toward them, it'll break a TON more than it looks. Hit a full club up every time you're facing them. Oh, and don't bother looking for your ball in the long stuff. He gone. -------------------------------------------- Played here on a gorgeous random Wednesday morning and a) paid $50 to play, 2. there was nobody on the course, and D- got a voucher to play three courses on the Raspberry Trail in some defined timeframe and get a free round. Perfect. And I played 2 balls for the equivalent of 36 holes in three hours and seven minutes. Golf Now has great deals for this and many other fine courses. After a dozen or fifteen bookings, they don't even charge you a booking fee. read more

First off, the tee boxes are basically bare land with some nice patches of crab grass. Most of the fairways have brown patches, some almost more than green grass. And the greens are half destroyed, some even with some major holes in it. Used to be a well taken care of course, but something has gone wrong recently to be in this shape. Fantastic course that's challenging and fun to play. Hole #3 and Hole #18 have fantastic views. Free range balls before you play. It really is an immaculate course. I just don't want to know how much it is full price. I was able to play here with the Living Social Deal where I got to play for $40. My only gripe was the stink bugs, but this was 2010. Raspberry Falls is a challenging and overall very nice course. It feels and looks like a private course. As a result it is pricey but worth playing here at least once in your lifetime. You wont regret playing there. If this place was cheaper, I would give it 5 stars. read more

Played 18 one Saturday in late October and the pace of play was disgraceful. We went off at 2pm thinking that would get us in before the 6:20 sunset time with just enough time to spare. However, by 6:20 we were still coming down the fairway at 15, on track for a 5 hour plus round. We tried to play a couple holes in the diminishing light, but ended up leaving before the 18th in almost pitch black. Something must have happened to the running of this facility. We saw no marshalls on the course watching the pace of play, and the carts no longer have GPS. I like the course, but they have to fix their pace of play issues before I'm willing to shell out on these green fees again. I'll be playing Westfields more next year. read more

I'm far from what I (or anyone) would call a "GOOD" golfer but I really enjoyed my time here this past weekend. The course is in great shape (it's early in the season right now) and pace of play was pretty quick for the length of the course. Fairways are pretty wide so novices can have just as much fun as their more advanced playing partners (who will appreciate the length, difficulty of shots from the rough, and speed/undulation of the greens). We had a ton of rain the day before so it was a bit soggy, but drainage was good and most of the traps were dry by about 12 hours after the rain had stopped. This was likely the reason for the abnormal shortage in customers. Overall, I was expecting the worst and pleasantly surprised with the conditions. This is a relatively expensive course by my standards (not for this area though), but if you can get a deal it's worth the money. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. You won't regret paying the little extra for what you get. read more

I play a lot of golf in the DC area, some may call me an aficionado. In all my local experiences, I have never seen such a great value. The course was in great shape and we played our round in 4 hours with no trouble. It was a busy day, but the starter (Byron?) was consistently making his rounds, very friendly ranger. The pros in the shop gave note-worthy service as well. I would recommend this course to anyone in the DC area who is looking for a private-club experience and course, for a public course rate. read more

Tested about dozen golf courses around DC area . So far my two favorites are Westfield Golf course (VA) and Raspberry Falls. Both golf courses are well maintained and nice fairway and fast greens. Only complain for Raspberry Falls GC - mostly mud filled in sand bunkers. It would be five star if they fill the bunkers with sand... not mud read more

i'd have to agree with all the previous comments made about raspberry falls. for me, the only thing holding it back from a 5 star rating was the cost. it is expensive for a public (though very easily could be a private) course. the only reason why i ended up there this weekend was because of a great deal i found online...though tee time was almost 4 pm. as for the course, i was a bit worried when the marshal mentioned that the fairways had been taking a beating, but they turned out to be just fine. i'm nowhere near a level where i'm looking for pristine grass and measured roughs, so i felt that the course was just fine. from the course design to the high-walled bunker (made me feel as if i was playing out of the roadside bunker at st. andrews...almost) to the elevated tees on a couple of holes, i was a big fan of raspberry falls. though i didn't play my best golf, i definitely enjoyed myself out there...which at the end of the day is all that really matters. read more

A great escape from the city jungle environment of DC. I had read so much about this course for so long. It was on my "must play" list and it did not disappoint. It's challenging yet very manageable. The course architect definitely took advantage of the Appalachian Mountains that this course is nestled on. The elevation changes and views are amazing. Sometimes, you feel like you're teeing off over a cliff. The one thing that did stop me from scoring this higher was that course conditions were up to par for a high-dollar course, and the practice range was for mid- to short-irons only. This course is long and should accommodate for drivers and fairway woods. read more

Played a Sunday 18-hole round yesterday (4/29/12) with a total time of 5-ish hours. This just isn't the course to expect an under 5 hour round. After some rain the previous couple days an additional 5 holes were cart path only. I hadn't played the course for at least 8-10 years and can say it isn't what it used to be. It took so long between playings for various reasons, but namely because rates just kept going up and up. They are now hovering around $100 for the weekend for a course that is probably worth $60-80. I remember the course being in immaculate condition with amazing stacked sod bunkers. These clearly haven't been maintained to the level Gary Player probably intended because they are non-existant and have been allowed to grow over. Overall, the bunkers were kind of disgraceful for a course that used to pride itself on conditioning. However, the fairways were great and greens were at a good speed for this early in the season. Additionally, I didn't think the staff was nearly as "with it" or attentive as they used to be. I made a tee time a week in advance as a single and when I got to the course the cart kid said he only had the first sheet of the tee sheet so couldn't give me a cart. The grass tees on the range were closed due to rain the previous days and the range balls are now a mix of crappy range balls you'd get at Woody's. (As I recall they used to all be uniform and 'high-end' range balls). When I finally checked in with the starter I had to say my name and tee time no less than 4 times apiece until he found my slot on the tee sheet. Overall, if you are familiar with this course in its heyday you might want to look elsewhere to get your fix of expensive, slow, weekend golf. read more
