OVERALL: 7.9/10 (Yelp Converted Score: 4/5). My partner and I were passing through, and wanted to stop for coffee. It was a decent experience - they did forget that I ordered a breakfast sandwich until I politely reminded them about 15 minutes after they gave us our last item (steamed oat espresso latte). Verdict: I'd come back if I lived in the area, or was passing through again, but it's not a place I'd outright go out of my way to get to. 1) VARIETY/SELECTION: 8.5/10. It has a decent selection for being such a small hole-in-the-wall (relatively speaking). 2) FRESHNESS: 8/10. They have the materials to make things fresh, but a lot of the baked goods are technically "pre-baked" (they may have been made on the same day, but they're not "made to order". 3) VALUE FOR MONEY: 7.5/10. Overall not bad, kind of expensive (sandwiches were $10 and $12; lemonade was $4 for a small glass with tons of ice, iced coffee and latte were $6 each, almond croissant was around $5?), but not terrible for a small(ish) town like Vernon (remember, all prices in $CAD for a Canadian business!). 4) SERVICE: 7/10. There were two people working here the entire time I was there; one was constantly making drinks, the other was alternating between helping customers order and making the food. It was a busy morning, but the person who took my order forgot about the breakfast sandwich that I'd ordered until I politely reminded them (after it was already cold, sad days). 5) CONSISTENCY / FIRST IMPRESSION: 8.5/10. I'd definitely come back - and prefer it over the local Starbucks / Timmie's - because local businesses are fantastic if done right (and this place seems to have struck that balance). Parking in front, but not much! I'm happy to see a local coffee shop thriving - tons of folks came in and the place was always having someone order the full time I was there. NOTE: This place is also the same as "juice wall" - there's a "wall" of shelving near the door that's a ton of wine options - you have to get a coffee shop item to order stuff from there, but it seemed like a reasonable price when I was perusing (but not purchasing) the wine. My only regret is not taking a picture of the wall! The seating wasn't bad - there's maybe 5 tables of 2-3 inside, and a patio that lines the outside of the place - so it's not bad by any means. read more

From NL. Walked into lunch hour and long line up. That usually signify good coffee and food. My wife had avacado sandwich with veggies and I had breakfast sandwich. Yes the food was fresh and very tasty. Only complain is my coffee was cold by the time the meal arrived. Service is normal. Ambience average. I give it a above average pass. 4stars read more

Mind blown!!! We stopped in on our way back to Calgary to grab a snack and drinks. We just happened to show up on #donutfriday and oh my lanta... We scarfed our doughnuts down in the car and quickly turned around to go pick up a few more for the trip back; they were THAT good. Forget Tim Hortons, even Jelly Modern Doughnuts (if you're from the city)... Ratio takes doughnuts to a completely new level. I had a coffee cream-filled one with chocolate ganache (oh my heavens) and my husband had a lemon meringue one: perfectly fluffy meringue and just right lemon curd piped inside. The doughnut pastry itself has the perfect texture... a bit crispy on the outside and soft and chewy as all-get-out on the inside. I can only imagine how amazing the rest of the pastries are throughout the week (éclairs and cream puffs on Tuesday for example!). The place was comfortably busy, great decor and really friendly staff. Looked like the barista and ladies at the cash loved working there which is always nice to see. As for the drinks, I had a mocha and my husband had a London Fog latte. Both were crafted with care and worth the short wait. Not cheap (cost us just under $20 for 2 drinks and 2 doughnuts) but the doughnuts were definitely worth every penny. Will most definitely be coming back next time I am in Vernon! We just might have to strategically plan our next trip so that we can snag the amazing doughnuts from Ratio next time we're around! read more

In my opinion Ratio Coffee is the best coffee shop and bakery in town! I don't get in there more than once a week at the most but the person behind the counter always remembers me and what I like to order. The drinks are made to a standard of care way beyond what we normally see in coffee shops and the baked goods are excellent. There is a rotating list of daily specials such as donuts, galettes, eclairs, cakes and strudel. The popularity of Ratio is attested by the huge pile of pink pastry boxes that get filled every day. My favorites: the almond croissant, the smoked salmon croissant sandwich, the scones- both sweet and savory. They also have lunch offerings, soup, beer, wraps and sandwiches. This place kills it on atmosphere. Great location, clean interior, beautifully modernly decorated. The interior is small but the patio in the summer has lots of options and they have live music quite frequently which is nice. I'm not a fan of their coffee, it's tastes burnt and I know the manager has got feedback but he seems quite arrogant and doesn't care. That's fine whatever. They have a nice selection of tea's but pricy$$$ as is most everything there and personally I don't feel it's worth it. Also super slow service, no one seems in any kind of rush here which is irritating. The doughnut Friday's are good, the dough they use is European style so it's a heavier dough, they are pricy and it will cost you about $50 for a dozen. Not my favorite donuts but for the area they are up there. They change their donut menu weekly, it would be nice to see more consistency in that sense and some of the flavors are not super appealing like macha and whatever fruit they mix with it that week. If I could take the coffee from Triumph or Bean Scene and keep the treats from Ratio you would have the perfect combo. read more

Initially, I was blown away with donut Friday. After being recommended by a friend, I was not disappointed . However, time changes things and that too applies to my beloved fritters I went to go buy one last week but actually walked out of Ratio's without buying anything. I honestly can not pay $5 for a fritter that is smaller than a tennis ball. I have slowly noticed the prices of donuts going up, while the size of the fritters going down. It is a shame because Ratio's makes a great donut. But, for me, I cannot justify paying those prices for that minimal of a product. read more

The best bakery cafe in the Okanagan! I don't know how we go so lucky as to have it open in our backyard but I haven't had a better croissant in France than what they put out at Ratio! Everyone raves about the doughnuts on Friday and they are worthy of the hoopla. Each one is a work of art and tastes as good as it looks! Ratio donut Friday is pretty legendary around my workplace and, guaranteed, at some point on a Friday there will be a mass migration of people from my office over to Ratio for the gourmet donuts. Every flavour I've tried has been unique and delicious. Where else can you get flavour combinations like a goat cheese creuller, a grapefruit white chocolate donut, or a plum ginger iced donut? The London Fog is smooth with just a hint of Bergamot. Not bitter and no after taste. The way it should be brewed.
