All went well when you score well. The course was in very good shape. Friendly check in. Nice looking pro shop. I normally play here 3-4 times per year. I like the course. Greens were fast today. There is a nice restaurant to get a sandwich and a drink. It was $52.00 with cart to play which was the price for a senior. Plenty of parking. I've played this course a few times and the staff has been friendly and helpful. That wasn't the case today. The starter stood there watching my friend and I unload our bags, coffees and waters and offered us no help, not even a hello. My friend has never played this course and asked where to get a cart. He just looked at her and pointed, "over there". He just seemed unfriendly and uninterested. If he's that miserable, he should work elsewhere. It's a shame because the previous times I've golfed there, the starter was a friendly man. Not this time. This experience just started our golf game off on the wrong foot. read more

This is a great golf course period. It is a very well kept and challenging public course. Every time I play it I like it more and more. Played yesterday and the course was in very good condition but the greens were not as up to par as usual. They were a little slow and grainy , not their normal condition but still great for a public. This course is not meant for duffers , so if you are a duffer go down the road to Turtle Creek ( another great public course ) where is wide open and a lynx track. You will loose a lot of balls here if you're a duffer , so duffers should duff somewhere else. read more

What I liked: free range balls, you only need a couple of warm up shots, so it's nice to not be nickel/dimed for a few balls to hit, course was in great shape- unfortunately a recent heavy heavy rain washed out the sand down to the rock bed, but that was on Mother Nature not the course, we must of gotten lucky as our round was just over 4 hrs, didn't experience the 5+ hr round that others posted about. Lots of fun from whites. Although traditional yardage for my hdcp would be blue, it's way too hard to go from there, tee it forward just a shade and you will enjoy this more- difference is only 300 yds, but makes a big difference as the landing areas on some of these tight par 4s is very small What I didn't like, I just could not get accustomed to the sloooow greens. I do not need Augusta fast, but my putts and chips were actually stopping on downhills, it was so weird, very green, but not rolled at all. Also, the turning par 4s are somewhat gimmicky, it's like two par 3s, hit to 150 marker then hit to flag. Architects will say, you have to think you're way around, but that just a way to explain away a poor design or lack of space to build a proper hole. I do agree with other posts that newer golfers will struggle, forced carry is everywhere. The cart gal saw us on #4, so we were good, but never saw her again when we were hoping to spot her. Oh well, that's being picky, it's fun and quirky and if you loop around in under 4.5, it's a pretty good day all around. Last: the cooling towers in background is just weird. read more

First and last time coming here. The course is nice but the staff is why I won't come back. It was cart path only and as I'm walking on fairway of first hole, the Marshall chases me down to let me know it's cart path only...he thought I drove on the fairway but it was a maintenance worker driving to the worker shed. I told the guy he was wrong and showed him my cart was about 30 yards away on the cart path...no apology and then for some reason he picks up my ball and looks at it. Btw he drove his cart on the fairways to snap at me. Also they got us off late so it looked like we were behind so several Marshalls running around the entire day. There was nobody behind us so not sure why they were out but they all seem annoyed. Then I finished the round and after tipping the guy who cleans my clubs I asked him if it was ok to hit a few more balls on their mat range. He said sure. Then someone from clubhouse immediately comes out and tells me if I keep hitting balls I'll have to pay $10 for thirty minutes. I get the policy but to be fair, the other guy steered me wrong. They make you feel like an uninvited guest. And at $95 for the round with cart path only that was kind of steep. Lots of other comparable places I'd rather give my business to. read more

I played on Jan 1 2023, it was way too wet and the greens were too slow and inconsistent. Winter rate of $69 with cart was a rip off. The greens need to be well maintained if they are charging premium rates. Moreover since their drainage is poor it is wet all over so they cannot afford to charge premium rates in wet conditions. I recently played at Raven's Claw and it was a fantastic experience. The course is absolutely in impeccable shape and quite challenging. Everyone we interacted with at the golf club were outgoing and very friendly. The front nine is a good tuneup for the more challenging back nine. Eventhough This is a public course it feels more like a private course as it is maintained meticulously with a high attention to detail. During our round, the play was never rushed nor did we ever have to wait. It was a solid and busy Saturday, Pace of play was smooth, and very enjoyable. I would rate Raven's claw an A plus experience and a must for any golf enthusiast. read more

Once you play it, you'll see why it is ranked top 10 in Pennsylvania. It's a lot of fun from the whites and a real bear from the blacks, if you're looking for a challenge. The course has excellent scenery and makes you feel like you traveled a lot further than you actually did. The restaurant is family owned and a great place to grab a sandwich and something to drink after your round. The staff is always extremely friendly and fun to talk with after you're done. The PGA professional Jim Bromley is one of the best teaching pros in the area if you're up for a lesson. read more

Played here for the first time, course was in excellent condition considering all the rain we have had this summer. Staff was very personable and helpful, starter suggested to use whatever club gets you to the 150 pole, this was invaluable information. Course is very challenging if you do not have your A game. My only complaints are that on a few holes I drove up to the green I was playing not knowing that the next tee was nearby, the on,y other complaint is that you need to have a little billy goat in you to reach a wayward shot on a few holes. read more

Golf course was great. Service awful. Cart girl came around maybe 3 times took our card and never returned. After finishing the round we arrive to club house to see that everything was closed, before 7 PM, and our cards are now locked inside. Thankfully the cart attendant called someone back to unlock the place to get our cards. Upon receiving them we see that all the cards were run and added 20% gratuity. Speaking to the manager she offered no help and said there were signage on the cart, which there wasn't as all the signage talked about was buying a rolling rock for the price of your score. Again good golf course but bring your own beverages as it seems they'd rather leave early and charge you 20% instead of waiting. read more

This is one of my favorite courses in the area - and I've played just about all of them. This course has a great layout. Some holes are stunningly beautiful. Some look treacherous but end up being far more forgiving then they look. But there are a few real challenges - most notably the par 3 17th... It's a round-killer. Apparently the course went through a time of bad management, but that was before my time in the area. And the way I look at it, no reason to hold a grudge about the past... Especially when new management is apparently doing a great job making amends. The course FEELS harder than it really is, which makes people walk off the 18th feeling like they've really accomplished something. It's part of the reason why it a fun place to play. My best round is actually at this course and I'm looking forward to playing again. The only complaint I had was the starter. He didn't seem to have an understanding of what would make a good pairing. I observed him put together groups that were just obviously going to play slow. I'm also kinda shocked that this is such a new course, but they didn't leave room for a proper driving range. The iron range isn't even large enough for me to hit all my irons. The membership options looked interesting but I don't live close enough to really consider them. Would be interested to know if people found them cost-saving. The cost always feels a little high to me. Especially since they cram too many groups in each day. read more

A gem of a course that is not only affordable in comparison to much lesser tracks but is also one that becomes more fun with each new visit. The design incorporates the landscape to create a course that goes far beyond so many of its competitors whose holes mimic each other but just in a different direction. Here the player has to think about second shot position and club choices off the tee. The amenities or conditioning that all public course players would ask from a private course are here as well. The bent grass greens roll true and get very quick as the good weather ensues, and the fairways are trim and many of the holes present options around the green for putting or chipping as the aprons are cut to make both options viable depending on the golfer's skill set or confidence with one club or another. In short a real bargain, and one that has to rank as one of the finest public courses in the State. read more

Raven's Claw is a dichotomy of indifference. On one hand you have the golf course. Interesting layout but not well or consistently conditioned. Then there's the restaurant. It falls short on service and the food is, and has been for some years, sub-par. Ed and Bob, the owners have no clue how to operate a retail service business. Ed Shearon runs a fairly large landscaping business. He has been caught using illegal immigrants. That speaks to his business ethics. In addition, he was summarily kicked out of the residential lawn service for the homeowners at Ravens Claw for extremely poor service. Bob Davis bought into an insurance business. He's probably the biggest bullsh*t artist I have ever met. That aside, the course layout is pretty nice. Ed copied the layout from several other courses/holes and did a nice job (example is hole 14 modeled after hole 12 on Augusta). Having lived here for five years, I always find the course fun and challenging. Unlike the previous reviewer, the course IS for beginners through better players. It is wide-open. There are several recovery areas on each hole. This course is not tight, does not have much high rough or fescue and the greens are huge. So I have no idea what the previous reviewer was talking about. Yet the conditioning of the course is so inconsistent. I do not blame the superintendent. It's obvious after the raid, most of the crew never returned. Now I usually see 3-5 guys taking care of the course. It suffers severely from lack of attention. Specifically the greens are very inconsistent. One week fast, the next week very slow. The cart paths are stone, with deep holes and tons of dust blowing in your face. The fairways seem to be okay, but the traps are always full of shale due to lack of sand replenishment. The pace of play can be very slow. They rarely have a ranger that ensures quality pace of play. You often get groups that completely take over the course, forcing a 5-6 hour pace. Your complaints are accepted and someone always apologizes, but nothing ever changes. I expect the owners are too cheap to make the needed investment for improvements. Okay, so that's a mix of positive and negative about the course. I still think you should play it. I like the layout and the greens can be a fun challenge. Onto the bar and restaurant. The bar has improved of late. But it is still very inconsistent. The restaurant serves probably some of the worst food in the area. Inconsistent quality, definitely low quality ingredients (frozen and canned). There is nothing compelling from a food standpoint that would welcome even the average palette. The speed of service has been an issue since the day they have opened. Slow and pathetic. Completely unacceptable. Expect long waits for mediocre food. Overall, I would golf here on a weekday. Weekends expect to wait. I would not eat here, but a drink or two should be fine. This is not a beginners course. I've been playing it now for a few years. I think it's a bit pricey but it's generally in good shape. Expect to bring lots of ammo, but you may come out ahead if you don't mind walking in tall grass and the brush. Some very interesting holes where you have to think through your approaches. It could have more flowers and interesting landscaping. Pros: The nicest people in the pro shop. Players Card that allows you to earn a free round. Free Birthday play if you register with them. Driving range and nice practice putting green. (they have a range membership available which could potentially save people money over hitting balls at Waltz) Bail out areas on the tougher target shots. Food in the bar is very good. Pro shop merch is ok. Balls are not priced too high if you forget to buy balls ahead of time. Cons: The cart paths are a mess. Ruts and potholes in the stone path will jar your spine. It's really annoying considering the price per round. There are several holes where the cart path lie right next to a drop off, and one extreme hair pin turn down a hill which will test your courage. NOT walkable. Rough could be shorter most of the year. Losing a ball in the rough, right off the fairway, should never happen. Plus it slows down play. Can sometimes be slow play on the weekends, but where isn't it in this area? The bar/restaurant area could be a great place to hang out with space for live music, poker nights, or other fun times. it's kind of a shame they don't utilize the space better, especially with the improved food coming out of the kitchen. read more

Played Raven's Claw anticipating a straight links style course but found it to be more of hybrid between a links and standard layout. There were several holes which were very enjoyable (even though my driver had abandoned me for the day). It is also the closest I have come so far to an Ace dropping my tee shot on the 117yd Par 3 14th, 6 inches from the cup with my lob wedge thanks to extremely elevated tee box. I agree with the previous Yelper, it's not a good course for beginners. The links style can be very discouraging for a new golfer (the best drive I hit all day I found in a pot bunker in the middle of the fairway I had no idea was there) and you're going to loose a ridiculous number of balls. In conclusion, Raven's Claw is a challenging, fun course however the price is a little steep. You can get discounted tee times using golfnow.com, but they're not at the best times or really that great of a discount. It's worth a play for more advanced golfers especially if you haven't tried a links course before. The aforementioned hybrid layout is a nice warm up for a true links style course. read more

I have tried to like playing here but I am frustrated. The high price makes you believe that you will have a good overall experience. But the course management needs to wake up. On 2 recent weekends, you had no cart service and then when the girls showed, they had no food or beer. And it took 2 hours to see them again. The return visit also yielded no food or beer. Nice course, cool layout. A bit soggy but it rained like mad the day before. Range is limited to warming up rather than practicing as it's short as well as limited on targets. Tees were all in very good shape, fairways were well defined and while soggy were very playable. rough was well maintained throughout just stay away from the wispy stuff! Greens while not fast (probably due to all the rain the day before) were in good shape, I just wish people fixed their ball marks around here. Spent most of my time on them fixing them. Come on people, nobody wants to putt through a minefield!! Walking is allowed but there are some very steep climbs and declines that are cart path only so be careful when wearing harder cleats. Would like to have a yardage book as well as relying on a "it's impossible to hit it to that whatever..." Inevitably leads to being in that whatever. Will be back on a sunny day to really try it out! read more

To make a long story shorter, I had a golf outing for 42 players scheduled at a different course in Delaware for Sept 12, 2020. Twelve days before the tournament date, the course emails me and says the course may not be in good enough shape. I immediately contacted Raven's Claw to see if I can move my tournament to R.C. and within minutes, Curtis set aside 12 tee time slots for my group at the same rate of the Delaware course and the same exact time slots, which made it easier on me and my players. On the day of the tournament, all the names of the pairings were placed on each golf cart and all the carts were ready to go. I'd like to also give a shout out to Frank and his staff who helped me bring tables from the bar area to where the starter was so that I can display the prizes of the tournament and allow to check my guys in upon arrival. Curtis and Frank helped set up a long putt competition for my players before the first group went off and helped me the entire day. A player of mine ran into traffic and missed his tee time ,and a staff member drove the player and his clubs out to the course to find his group on the 3rd hole, as well as set up our long drive competition and closest to the pin stations on the 10th and 14th holes. The restaurant/bar was phenomenal, all my players finished their round up on 18 and congregated to eat and drink and watch the next groups finish up with zero problems. Shout out to Alicia for making this a smooth operation. Curtis also provided me a free round of golf card for organizing this tournament and for my own efforts in making this day possible. Not only is the course awesome in itself, but the entire staff was tremendous and the entire operation was a class act. Can't thank these guys enough for making our day special. The feedback I've received from my players was all exceptional. If you're considering an outing anywhere in the Greater Phila region, Raven's Claw should be your top selection. Only played once and I was not impressed. First they put my friend and I with another 2'some which is probably my biggest pet peeve with golf courses. I paid to play with my friend, not a random group of people. On top of that, although the starter was nice, the group in front of us was late and not ready and he held everyone up waiting for them instead of letting us play at our T time. If someone isn't there for their T time don't make the people behind them have to wait. Lastly they had just aerated the greens and they were in horrible shape. I've played on courses that just aerated the greens and they were nowhere near this bad. They put sand down to try and fill the holes and it was like putting in the parking lot, the ball bounced all over. If I didn't get the discounted hot deal on the golfnow app I would have asked for my money back. read more

Played today for the second time. Played early morning which meant that it was not only reasonably priced but also very quiet meaning pace of play was not an issue. I thought the course was really interesting with lots of very different holes that provided different challenges and tested all aspects of the game. Overall the course was well maintained with layers of rough, generally solid fairways and pretty good greens. No reason why most golfers shouldn't be ok on here, though a couple of holes are challenging in length from the tee. Par 3s are entertaining whilst there are some par 4s that really test your accuracy if you want to shoot low. Not really sure what people complain about tbh. Lovely course in general and enough elevation changes to test your game, Bit of a pain no halfway house but not end of the world. Will definitely be back! read more

Great course. Great course setup. Well run facility. Beautiful bathrooms! Probably the best public course in the general area and one of the best in the Philadelphia suburbs. Just the right challenge from the tips for a public course. The starters can be a little pushy but that keeps the course running efficiently, so that's a good thing in my opinion. The range is not amazing but perfect for a pre round warm up, with a nice putting green to go along with it. There are houses on the course but they don't come in to play too often. Most of the them are to the left, so a slice won't be taking out any windows haha. read more

Have to 5 stars for the layout and price. If you get on for $45 it will be well spent. The greens even with summer cut roll fair and even, most teeboxes flat and in good shape. Cart paths are not paved and bouncy, didnt care for that. I think this is a hard course even for an intermediate to break 90. You will be challenged on every hole with the exception of #14 short par 3. The 17th is a monster 210yd par 3 with narrow chute. Some of the holes require well places tee shots to be setup for any kind of decent approach. My only complaint was the grounds crew seemingly in front of us for many holes and they would not yield, thats not cool. Several tees have clocks that remind you of your pace which was nice. Did not eat in the clubhouse. Staff were friendly. The layout is challenging without being unreasonable. I think they struck a good balance. Overall I like this course alot and think its worth the spend. read more

I have played this course roughly 25 times. I like the layout as there are quite a few interesting/challenging holes. I have almost always gone by myself at twilight hours (after 4:00pm) on the weekend and on a number of occasions I finished my 18 hole round in under 2 hours and rarely takes over 2:45. I probably won't ever play on a weekend during the day since the one time I did it was a 5.5 hour round. When we finished #16 and drove up to the #17 tee, there were 2 foursomes in front of us waiting to tee off. With the cart paths being mostly dirt, you can expect to be a little dusty by the end of the day. But on the plus side if you happen to hit the cart path with your ball it won't go bounding 50 feet in the air and into trouble. The overall conditions of the course aren't great, but they're not terrible either. I really do like the layout a lot and if it wasn't for that and the ability to get a cheap (relative to normal times) fast round in I'd probably only give the course 3 stars. read more

With the continued success of new management, this could be a gem of a course in my own backyard. WARNING: This course is not for beginners. If you are a beginner, don't waste your time (or mine) or money by reserving a tee time as you will be disappointed and discouraged from every picking up a club again. There are alot of elevation changes, doglegs, blind shots and undulating greens. With the exception of Wyncote, this is as close to an inland links style course that I have ever played. Best hole by far is 17. It's an uphill 210 yard par 3 with a two-tiered undulating green. There is no bailout to the left, none to the right and if you hit it short you are playing to a blind second shot. Overall, the course is very well thought out. The only minus I can give the course is that there are no bathrooms other than the clubhouse and once you make the turn, you're never near it again. The course is lined in some areas (mostly back 9) with houses built too close for discretionary peeing. If you are a mid to low handicap golfer, I highly recommend you try Raven's Claw. read more

Used to be one of my favorites tracks. No longer I am afraid. Extensive Oil marks on at least 2 greens. The fringe burned completely away on at least 4 others by by over fertilization. They would tell you it's draught but draught doesn't show up as poured on deadness. The greens haven't been rolled in days and as such, ball marks all over. Tee boxes dug up. At 71 bucks for the greens fees, I would expect a MUCH GREATER look. My advise? Force the course to put the greens master to task by taking your business elsewhere until they get their head out of their $!; read more

My review on this golf course is a very positive one.Out of all of the courses that I have played around the Philadelphia area. Ravens Claw is my number 1 course. Every hole is challenging from the par 3's to the par 5's. Fairways and Greens were always in top notch shape. Yet to encounter with poor customer service. Have dealt with Jamie in pro shop, he is one of the nicest guys you will meet. This course does offer some great deals in such the last second deals. I have gone out in the early afternoon for a very reasonable deal. Cheaper than most of courses. The last second deals are something to look for! Also offer driving range if would like to hit a bucket of balls before your round.
