I have always heard great things about this place so I decided to try it. I made an appointment for a back facial and to say the least I am very disappointed. The ladies in the front desk aren't very polite so that was already a turn off. However my esthetician enjoyed greeted me was very nice and at the time seemed very knowledgeable. I think her name was Carmella? She greeted me and we went upstairs where I continued to show her my back and she recommended that I do microdermabrasion instead. I told her I had sensitive skin, and she said "oh yes I can already tell". Great I thought in my head. She continued to start the procedure and I thought everything was going fine. I always get facials on my face + microdermabrasion and I've never had such a thing happen. After the microdermabrasion she continued to use that static thing that kills bacteria? Which hurt way too much! I am someone who gets facials ALL the time and am used to it, but this was extremely painful. She then said it was normal and you know here I am thinking she's a professional, I said okay.... then she put a mask on which BURNED like nothing I've ever felt before. I told her and she continued to take it off and tried 4 other masks until I stopped being in pain. She cleaned my back off after, told me to not shower, wear a bra, or workout the rest of the day. I bought some of their products, about three things.. which I will not even be able to use because my back is still burning just from having a shirt on. It is just ridiculous. Yes my esthetician was very polite but she didn't even inform me that there was scratches on my entire back. As if she couldn't even see them. Very discouraged from ever visiting this place again. I know accidents happen but it's my entire back in scratches.i paid money for this? Like seriously. read more

I 100% recommend anyone who struggles with acne to give this place a go. I've struggled with acne 6 years, been to 2 dermatologists and another aesthetician. The first aesthetician would not do customized facials for your skin did not help my face at all. First dermatologist visit I went to at kaiser ended up prescribing me creams that burned my face very badly. The second dermatologist I went too prescribed me many things like skin antibiotics and very expensive creams. She made my skin ten times worse. So my last resort was to try this place out, Susan is a very amazing aesthetician. I've only been to about 5 or 6 appointments and there has been a DRASTIC difference on my face. Now don't get the wrong idea, nothing inappropriate went on. Let's start at the begining. I called to make an appointment but they didn't have the time I wanted so I made an appointment for earlier. Than hours later the girl I spoke to called to tell me that a spot opened up. how nice, I didn't even ask her to do that. we're off to a good start. The reception area is clean and sleek and the service friendly. The facilities are more of the same. A clean, modern feel that's warm at the same time. The bathroom area has a wide aray of Raya skin care products that clients can use. Water and apples are provided throughout the spa. My massues was Purata. She was great. I've had many massages, some great some not so good and I think I set a high bar. Purata definitely met that bar. Very pleasant and professional. perfect presure and she really worked out all my knots. After 3 years commited to my monthly visit to Burke Williams I am now a RAYA convert. Until I went to Raya Spa, I 'thought' I knew what a great leg and bikini wax was...uh, no, I had never had a great one, until now that is. Parada, the aesthetician was quick, efficient, painless, and gave me (for the first time probably every) exactly the bikini line I asked for. While I hate the idea of the commute (I live in Santa Monica) it's so worth it. I should mention I had a mediocre 30 minute massage. I asked for Swedish, and during the session mentioned twice that I'd like my right shoulder to be the focus. What a great deal for a facial...only $85! Add on a Microdermabrasion for just $60! Susane was my esthetician and she did an excellent job! She was very thorough with the extractions and made sure I was comfortable throughout the process. She kept assuring me the stinging would subside from the various treatments being done to my face. The burning did subside and my face wasn't red afterward. This place was clean, well kept, and the atmosphere certainly had a European spa feel to it. The associate helping me in the locker room was kind and informative. She offered me the choice to take a steam shower in the hydrotherapy room, but I was a little late to my appt so I had to turn it down. I was supposed to come an hour before to take advantage of the spa facilities; maybe next time. After my treatment I wanted to try their line of skincare products; they seem to have great ingredients. I would've given this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the receptionist who made a snide remark to my friend who bought the gift certificate for me and also to me after I got my treatment done. She seems to like talking down to people and making them feel dumb. Bad trait when you're being rated for customer service honey. Also, in the spa locker rooms, the lights sense movement, except they turn off if you don't keep moving around constantly, so if you're reading a magazine you need to keep flailing your arms so they'll turn on again! I thought this place was lovely... But the service not great. I had Ana to do some waxing (brows, lip) and a facial. She was very timid and clearly inexperienced. Her touch too soft, almost apologetic. She left hair on my face!I got back from the service and looked in the light at the brows and lip... EEEKKK! How did she miss those?? My brows are not properly arched, she missed the shorter regrowth and never used any magnifying glass to check the strays. Bad. The facial, a joke. A little cleanser, a little steam, a little lotion and I was done. The extraction process lasted about an entire minute and she complained how difficult it was to remove the masque she had applied... And indeed, she left masque under my chin on my neck and on my NOSE! Truly, I have done a better facial in the shower with my own products. I will never return to this spa, and my friend who recommended the place who lives in LA said she won't recommend it to anyone else... Neither will I. One last thing... I started my "cycle", I realized when visiting the ladies room between services. When I asked Ana if she could help out by getting me some "supplies" for my problem, she took 10 minutes to return after saying she would "see" if they had anything... She handed me a tampon whose wrapper looked like it had been in someones handbag for 6 months. I accepted it because I had no other alternative. But I was SHOCKED they did not have these and other supplies available that women need. You are a SPA that caters to women, don't you think you would have these sorts of things around for just this type of occasion? I guess not! Oh and the toilet on the second floor cant take toilet paper. There is a sign on the wall next to the paper holder that says to put your used paper in the trash can not the toilet. I've been coming here for years, before there was Groupon and Living Social offering discounts to try out different spas at reduced prices. And after trying several different places over the years, I can confidently say that there just isn't a better place for a facial than here. My former esthetician Lillie must have gotten some great business from my last review (or so I'd like to think) because she's always booked way in advance and I can never get her anymore. I've tried some of the other estheticians but my go-to gal now is Olga. I was initially worried about her youth and lack of experience but she's actually very skilled and very good. I would highly recommend her if you're not sure who to get; since she hasn't been there that long, it's been pretty easy to book her. They haven't raised their prices since I've been going there in 2008. $67 for a 70 minute facial with a skilled European-trained esthetician is still the best deal in all of LA. read more

I've been using Raya's products for over 20 years! Yes! 20 yrs! Ugh! I can't believe its been that long! Anyways, I was passing by here and thought I should right a quick review. As I've been a dedicated client for so long. When I do get facials its always with Raya as she has been so wonderful in helping me keep my skin clear, clean and youthful. Products: Make-up remover is awesome! Doesn't sing your eyes and its not oily, it seems to be waterbased...so its light not greasy. The Mint Souffle cleanser is what I use (in the winter) and its wonderful! It cleans my face but never leaves my skin feeling dry. Microsilk-C eye cream is a must if you have puffy eyes. This cream is magic and will reduce swelling under the eyes. Fading cream is also wonderful for gradually lighting the skin. Blemish Control Masque is great for problem skin and the Blemish control gel is great for spot treatment., you know for those stubborn pimples! And of course the Glycolic Gel 50 is key for me. I use it every night! So many wonderful products!!!!! I would recommend a session with Raya or one of the facialists that has some time under their belt. The first time I went to see Raya I had acne, I was about 21. She gave me a facial and told me that I would really see results if I used more of her products and continued sessions with her. I remember being skeptical...thinking yeah, they just want to sell sell sell. But I really was at a point where nothing else was working. So, what the heck. I bought a cleanser, toner, moisturizer and bio-drying lotion to begin with and she was right. By the first couple of weeks my face was really starting to clear up. I've recommended many people to Raya and all have been satisfied by her service and products. And I've compared prices, her prices are reasonable! Though be sensible don't compare her products to store bought products... theirs no comparison. Her products are of soooooo much better quality. Believe me I've tried! Parking can be tricky...ask where the validated parking structure is before you go so you don't get stuck looking for parking. Get waxed here!!! Ask for Julia. She's super fast, thorough and doesn't talk. My nether regions look fantastic. The waxing rooms are okay- nothing fancy, nothing gross. I've been going here for years and will never stray. $39 for a custom wax- everything but a nice front triangle, or whatever you want. Pop a couple advil 1/2 hour before your appointment btw- it helps :) I've also gotten massaged here a few times and every time was fantastic. The spa facilities are pretty good- especially because there's rarely anyone else there. Just a couple of steam rooms (one eucalyptus scented, one unscented) and a sauna. I have been using Raya products for 8 months now and getting monthly facial. Let me tell you my face never felt that beautiful before. I came here with serious acne as I was using benzoyl peroxide and my aesthitician told me not use it so i stopped using it and she recommended me some products. I am a student and don earn enough money but when it comes to skin care i can try to save money and get facials. I bought the products for home skincare. Till this day these products never broke me out and made my skin completely new. This place is awesome! I went to get a facial and the spa amenities. The facial felt amazing! It's such a great price considering the location. It felt like heaven touching my face. Came here once with the 20% discount of 1 hour swedish massage & facial. Overall, I am NOT impressed. First, parking in this area is a nightmare. I street parked closeby but the max amount is 2 hours. How can you comfortably enjoy 2 hour session + extra time to use the facilities? Luckily the staff was understanding and put extra quarters into the meter. My facial felt great. Afterwards, I checked my face in the mirror and noticed that all the blackheads weren't removed. My massage was not impressive. The lady barely spoke english. She didn't ask any questions about any areas to focus on or trouble spots. The massage was a general massage, no target points or pressure. I won't be coming back. I've gone to facilities where they only do masages-much better. I've been going to Raya Spa for a year now and I love it. The services I have received so far have been great. Nelly is great, Brazilian waxing is very quick and not very painful. I have been to several different places for my waxing services and was never pleased because some hair would always be missed and left behind, but at Raya that has never been an issue for me. Aside from waxing I get my facials and microdermabrasion by Nelly. I have to say I am grateful I came across this Spa and Nelly, she observed my troubled skin and explained to me how our skin works and advised me to try their products. I bought the oily skin kit which includes: camphor souffle, toner, glycolic gel, vitamin B cream, and a spot treatment all for less than $80 including tax. After 1 week of using the product I noticed all my pimples were coming to the surface and simply disappearing. One month after using the product I went in for a facial and microdermabrasian. Now, it has been 4 months and my face is completely clear, and my shine is under control.
