I've been coming here for about 4 years and it's always seemed to be that classic Beverly Hills spa where time stands still. There are estheticians who have been here for 15+ years. Nothing really changes, including the stone cold front desk service. Sometimes I want to buy one of the girls a coffee just to see a smile or a human response. But I never let them ruin my experience, I just hope it's not THAT terrible to work there. After several hit or misses, I finally found Carmela. She is so experienced in skincare has the best tips and tricks. She always takes extra care of my sensitive skin. I've went in with multiple blemishes and left with amazing clear skin that lasts. She has never pushed products on me like others at the spa. Super professional. She's a magician! But super busy so call in advance to book her. Meter parking is a negative but there's usually spots. read more

Very disappointing experience from start to finish. The receptionist, Nina, was quite rude on the phone on two separate occasions when I called to update my appointment. I was explaining to her that I had to cancel my partner's massage because she went to urgent care and she cut me off mid sentence without any sense of remorse to ask what time the appointment was for. Seemed her only goal was to get off the phone with me. When I got there the receptionist in person (not sure if also Nina) was on her phone and not any more pleasant than who I spoke to earlier. The building was freezing, not ideal when you are almost naked trying to relax laying on a bed for a massage. Even my massage therapist was cold as her hands were freezing when she started. She told me they control the AC in the lobby and don't let her change it. She tried to make the best of the situation and offered me complimentary hot stones and a blanket. Overall will not be going back here and am even more so disappointed to think that I used to buy gift cards for my clients to this place. read more

Love this spa, for my facials and for waxing. Tanya is amazing, spends a lot of time deep cleaning my pores, polishing my face and I always leave feeling really great and squeaky clean! Came for a facial. The esthetician kept texting while doing my extractions, without even washing her hands. So nasty, shes the reason why my face breaks out so much. Went there for a massage the first time today. I love this place! The price is not exorbitant like other places around this area, the masseuses are top notch and don't try to upsell you their products AND they're honest and don't eat into your time. The entire place smells fantastic! It is also extremely clean. You get to try out their products at the spa. The spa amenities are pretty basic, an aroma steam room, a steam room and a sauna, but I love the no frills concept of this place. The environment is really peaceful and this might be because I came on a weekday evening, but I made a reservation on the day itself and they had an availability to slot me in. Parking might be tricky but definitely give this spa a visit when you are in be area. Can't say enough great things and how impressed I am with this place. This is one of those reviews that I kind of hate to write because if everyone knew about how great Raya is, it would be much harder to get an appointment. But the People deserve to know. 1) The place is nice, modern, and clean, and there is almost always easy parking. 2) Their fruit enzyme serum is excellent. Use it under moisturizer. 3) The wonderful people working at the front desk are extremely nice and helpful, which makes the whole experience better, both on the phone and in person. 4) Nellie (Nelly?) is a facial goddess. She deserves an award. She is great with extractions and with everything else, and she knows how to listen to the client. She also really cares. My friend bought me a $200 gift card from this Spa, then someone broke in to my car and stole everything form me including this gift card, we went back to the Spa and told them to deactivate that gift card and give us a new one but unfortunately they ignored us and said it's not possible when they had all the info. My best friend introduced this place to me when I found out she had been coming to Bella for over 10 years. I wanted to try waxing for awhile now & she said Bella would be the perfect one to start with aaand she was right! Bella is an older lady but don't let that fool ya.. she's amazing! She talked it through with me & made sure of what I really wanted to be done. She kept making sure I was okay with the pain & was comfortable enough. She gave me tips on maintenance & all the sorts to make it easier the next time. Since then, I've been visiting her regularly for almost a year now. Firstly, let me say that I have been going to Raya for seven years and always loved it, particularly for the good value. But a few years ago I noticed that during my facials, the "face mask" time was getting longer and longer. It used to be ten minutes, but had increased to twenty minutes, sometimes longer. The last time I went to Raya, my therapist raced through the first part of my facial, slapped on the face mask and excused herself. She was gone THIRTY FIVE minutes. I was lying on the bed wondering if she was ever coming back. It was ridiculous. When my therapist returned, I was obviously upset and asked where she had been. She told me that it was the spa policy to double book therapists to do a waxing or other short procedures while facial clients are having their face masks. Problem is that the waxing clients are sometimes late, or take longer than expected, so the facial customers have to wait. My therapist apologized and said that she would make up the time for me, but guess what? She didn't. She swiftly removed the face mask and was gone. So my one hour facial was only 25 minutes - a far cry from the one hour that I paid for. It is my opinion that if you are paying for the services of a beauty therapist for one hour, that is what you should get. I am not paying good money for my facial therapist to go and give someone a Brazilian wax. I will never give Raya salon my business again, nor will I ever recommend them. They are greedy and sneaky, double booking their therapists. Sure, their prices are low, but you get what you pay for, a one hour facial is now less than 25 minutes. read more

After reading all the raves about Raya, I skipped my usual $120 facials for the moderate $67 cost at Raya. Well, I got what I paid for... I had to wait 20 minutes after my appointment time to then be met by a disappointed Russian women that commented quite loudly, and rudely, that my skin needed a facial. No, really? Why do you think I am here...? I was then escorted to a small room that was difficult to navigate in and given a "paper" blouse to put on and was told not to remove my bottom/slacks. When my facialist returned, she commented many times how my skin was damaged, needed a lot of work, etc., etc. Then, when I warned her that my skin was sensitive, she told me I should use toners with alcohol - what?! Now, I don't have amazing skin, but I do have great skin - sensitive, yes, but great. At the ripe age of 37 I don't have any wrinkles. Yes, that is right, not a one. I do have freckles and slight discolorations due to sun damage - but I have never left a facial with such a feeling of inadequacy. My facialist treated my skin like a large bag of potatoes - prodding and pushing with such a harsh touch that she said "she was sorry" every 20 seconds. The best part of the facial was the products - they smelled nice and felt great on the skin. But after the facial, my skin looked WORSE then it did when I walked in. I had various blemishes, redness everywhere and the next day I had brand new pimples. Instead of feeling beautiful, I felt tired and worn out from all the prodding. Three days later, my skin is still a mess. Unlike my other faciailist that I walk away glowing, this facialist left product behind my ears and didn't tell me as I walked out. My dinner partner had to ask me what the "purple stuff" behind my ears was and quickly did a double-take after seeing the redness in my skin. Sure, you save 80 from other places, but in the long run, you end up spending more on all the various "calming" products you have to use. Will I be returning? I was planning on returning for the sunscreen and other products I purchased, but today I received a call from Norman, the owner. I thought to apologize, but he told me that "They are people too," and that I should have "said something about the service when I was there." He basically called to complain about my review here. When I told him I wasn't asked when I checked out whether or not I was happy with the service, he asked me if I purchased items. When I confirmed that I had, he told me that "Raya wouldn't be able to help me anymore and to not buy products from him." Wow. If this how they treat a new customer, why would I return? He didn't offer to refund my money, but he did say that if I would have stated my disappointment in the service "they could have worked something out." I don't believe it. For Norman to call and complain to me about my complaint, well, that is just shotty customer service. Unfortunately, I am not the first to complain about their services, and unless they focus on making US, the customer happy, I wouldn't doubt they continue to loose customers such as myself. read more

Alright. You're probably looking at the three stars and wondering what happened. When I arrived, the place was clean, wonderful, serene... minus the hundreds of bottles of product [their proprietary product which they peddle on their clientele] and the Eastern European staff gabbling back and forth. My esthetician [Neli? Nela?] guided me to my room and explained the process. I had a European Clinical Facial and an Oxygen Facial add-on this morning. We don't need to get into every explicit detail about the facial, those of you that have them know what to expect: Discomfort in exchange for beauty. Extractions. That's all I gotta say about that. My problems were the following: As I laid on the bed, she adjusted me [I had to move down a little because I'm 6' tall]... she then proceeded to tell me a story about the tallest man in the world. Apparently he was from a village in Ukraine, not too far from Chernobyl. Can you see where this is going? Radiation poisoning had given him a kind of cancer, and he grew to be eight feet tall before a surgery to correct the cancer finally allowed him to stop growing. Now... do I really want to hear about a story like that when I am supposed to be relaxing? There is nothing relaxing about the Chernobyl disaster. There is nothing relaxing about a nuclear accident that has killed thousands of people over the years. During my facial massage, she also massaged my upper back array and shoulders. That felt great - until the end of the service. She put paraffin under my eyes and on my lips and left the room for around 20-25 minutes. Outside I could hear the chattering, etc... I opened my eyes and stared at the ceiling, and a dust covered vent directly above my head - oh yeah, very comforting. After all the squeezing and pinching from extraction, my nose was stuffy [if you don't tear up a little, you're amazing] as a result... I couldn't breathe out of my nose, and my mouth was covered in wax, so I blew the paraffin off. My back hurt from the awkward angle of the chair [she didn't relax the lower half of the bed when she lowered me... so it left me contorted for my entire stay]. After she was completely finished, she left the room and I got up to put my shirt on... except my shoulders and back were still covered in cream and a grainy exfoliant... as well as pieces of the paper towel-like bedding material I was laying upon. I had to walk over to the sink, search for paper towels, and clean myself off. I didn't see her for the remainder of my time there. My total came to 87 dollars, and I was kind enough to tip her 13 [I rounded off to an even 100]. I sadly admit that a first impression is everything, and I seriously doubt that I'll be back. read more

I've been to Raya a number of times for a variety of services over the last 4 years. Here's a basic run-down: PROS: * Price is pretty darn good. Can't seem to beat them, although there are a few other places with "about the same" price, but most other places a heck of a lot more. * The facility is beautiful! Very visually appealing, and CLEAN. * The 'spa' is pretty neat. The sauna room gets nice n warm and they have all the standard toiletries waiting for you. You even get some nice natural sunlight in while you relax. * Free use of the spa when you book 2 or more sessions in a day - nice! I've never used or seen the roof-top sun deck that's also free with 2 or more sessions, but I'm black, so not a biggie for me! Juss sayin... :-) CONS: * Parking. Yes, there is parking in the back, and granted I've always been able to nab one of the (only!) 4! But that's because I've gone during the week at non-peak hours. I can't imagine what the parking is like on the weekends! * The rooms aren't fully sound proof. So if you're trying to relax in QUIET during your treatment, you'll likely hear the ppl. next door or in the hallways. Rooms are also a little cramped. GO HERE FOR: * Massages: I haven't had a bad one yet! Full body is my fav and they really get in there without you feeling like you got beat up after! * Facials: This is not your standard 'let me lightly rub your face with nice smelling cream and let you marinate for 50 mins listening to a rainfall CD' facial. I'm talking good 'ole deep clean European facial! The exfoliation and extractions are gooood. My skin is pretty sensitive but still relatively clear. It's oily with black/whiteheads on my nose and chin. They really get it all out, which I LOVE! It's definitely the the kind of facial where you feel like your face is CLEAN after. A bit red for the night, but by the next day, I can really feel that it's softer and looks much cleaner, and the pores on my nose are empty!!! You still get about 10-15 mins at the end to marinate, but it's surely not the majority of the session. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR: * Brazilian waxes: Patches were left, and overall, not as smooth as I like. Quick - in and out in 10 mins, but I would have much rather had her take 20 mins to do the job right. Oh, and I know they put us ladies in all sorts of positions when dealing with our itsy-bits, but come on...you had my leg all up on the wall and you still missed places?!?! WTF! (Yes, I said on the wall! They have their waxing tables up against the wall so she's only able to get to you from 1 side. So leg on the wall it is. I couldn't help but think, "Eww gross. Who else's nasty leg was up here today!". That's all...Raya's cool. Not great, but cool. read more

I had a spafinder gift certificate so I decided I'd give it a roll. I got a brazillian by Bella. Which was pretty sub par. Let's start with the pluses they valdiate for a free hour which was sorta nice.she's fast, I was in and out pretty fast but she's not thorough. I left with at least dozen stray hairs that I feel she should of tweezed out. I think that's pretty standard. Also within a few days I had some growback which means she just broke some of the hairs instead of getting them from the root. She also double dips which is gross. I mentioned something to her and she brushed it off. They have a huge like curbside garbage can in there filled to the top with old wax strips which i thought was sorta gross and my appointment was at 1:00 so it's not like it was end of the day. I'm not shy at all so this didn't bother me, but she just opened and closed the door while i was naked waist down once when I just undressed and another time when she was done. I don't really care, but i figured other women might. Then she put sooo much freaking baby powder on my lady bits I felt like powder I mean all over my thighs everywhere!. I don't like baby powder, and she gave me zero warning. now the people of yelp know entirely too much about my vagina. read more

If you have sensitive acne-prone skin, do NOT come here. When I walked up to the receptionist and saw how bad her skin was... it was a sign... So many things went wrong: 1. I made an early appt and I had to give my credit card number. I have never done this ever before and it made me feel really uncomfortable giving away sensitive info. They will charge you half of the facial if you do not call to cancel 4 business hours before your appt. Also, the chances of you getting free parking in the back is impossible. I paid 2 dollars at the meter. 2. I wanted to get a consultation as to what I should get done. Nothing of this sort happened. The lady I got barely spoke English and she just ushered me in. After I changed I asked her what I should do and all she said was she'd customize it for me. I told her my skin is very sensitive and all I got was a mumbled response. 3. During the whole facial she kept trying to sell me products. "Dis iz good for yoo. I do dis cream to helpz cleanz da faze. Dis enyzme peel will helpz blackhead. I show you later at front desk". NO THANK YOU. 4. She did manage to talk me into adding the Oxygen Facial by promising that it would help heal my face faster after the extraction. So she blasted pure oxygen for 4-5min on my face. It is extremely cold. It chilled me down to my toes. $20 wasted. 5. The extraction went terribly wrong. I walked out with my face swollen and looking 10x worse than I walked in. She plied on product after product after product. 6. I also did not get the full 90 minute facial that they advertise. I would know because of the minutes left on the meter. I got about 70 minutes even with the Oxygen add on. I came in with ONE pimple, blackheads on my nose, and a few whiteheads on my cheeks. Other than that, my face was relatively clear. Progressively throughout the day, I noticed that my face was more inflamed than ever and was hurting underneath the skin. I checked the mirror again and OMG every hole she extracted on my cheek had swollen to thrice the size. It had gotten infected. I squeezed one and all this nasty white-yellowish pus came out. It's been 8 days since I got the facial and I know this is not how it's supposed to end up. I had to extract all the infected areas at home by myself with a tissue. Now my face is SCARRED, especially my left cheek. 8 ginormous hyper-pigmentation scars and 2 on my right. Every time I look into the mirror I want to cry. My skin has never been so damaged. I paid $97 to have someone ruin my face for the next couple months. Don't waste your money and go to a LICENSED dermatologist. read more

I used to come here for my custom bikini wax (which i loved) BUT i will say Bella has to be the worst waxer there -_- Ive held in this story as long as I could but im sorry it just needs to be told. I started going to raya with my cousin as a dare but i actually got hooked! The first few times i had different ladies that were great, then about my 4th time i met Bella. I was sitting in the lobby waiting to get called when she walked in, called my name, looked at me & rolled her eyes. In my head im like "wth was that for old lady?!" She walked me to my room & told me to get undressed & came back 10 secs later when i wasnt ready & told me "i have to hurry because its busy". Im like strike 2 lady -_- Then she asks if i shaved im like no i dont shave & she says "well it looks like you did, i probably cant even wax you today, i bet someone told you not to do that before you know better" I tried my HARDEST not to go "ghetto" on her so i said "heres the deal, i dont shave, i dont care how busy you are today because i made an appointment, i didnt drive more than 30 min from my home to sit here & let you tell me i cant get my waxing done because you THINK i shaved". She finally goes silent & starts waxing away! Luckily i can take a lot of pain because she starts waxing stuff that shouldnt be waxed & very sensitive areas on purpose! She says "oh i guess i got more off than i thought haha" -_- b***h....the waxing was terrible! She left spots undone, i had wax & baby powder all over me & on my legs! The next day i even had a few scabs :( After she left i went to the lobby to check out & complain & i said on my file put that ill have any other waxer EXCEPT her. The girl at the lobby laughs & says "yea im sorry bella can be a handful sometimes" -_____- then why is she still here lady?! Ugh!!! I love Raya! I saw Yana for a facial and microdermabrasion and it was amazing. Of course the extractions were a little painful but nothing intolerable. And she kept talking me through all the steps she was taking so I wouldn't be surprised. She was very gentle, kind, informative, and knowledgable. And most importantly, I left there feeling like a new person! My face had been feeling clogged and just dirty for a while but now it feels so tight and smooth and clear. I've gotten 3 facials here so far. All Excellent. I have my degree in Esthiology (Skin care) from Aveda. So I'm well trained in technique, products and services. I highly recommend Raya because it's the only spa I've found with consistent standards or excellence in service and prices. My third time I decided to purchase the use of spa faciilities (only additional $20) which is WELL worth it if you have to time to make an afternoon out of it. I was pleasantly surprised to find the most pampering showers fit with something like 7 different shower heads. Another treat was the Eucalyptus Aromatherapy Sauna. It really felt amazing on my skin and senses! My esthetician, Natasha, was my favorite so far and I'll be requesting her next service I schedule. She's so talented! My skin was having major issues due to stress and I was quite upset about the state it was in. Natasha quickly assessed the situation and knew exactly what to do. read more

I called to let them know I would be a couple minutes late and the girl said no problem. When I arrived my lady, said that because I was late it would deduct time from my facial. I guess I understand that, but be warned. The spa is beautiful, clean, and inviting. The girls at the front desk are polite and helpful. The room I got my facial in was very comfortable and they had bird and music sounds playing that were very relaxing. I was a bit miffed about the whole time thing, but in all fairness, I was on day six of the Master Cleanse and was super cranky pants anyway. The facial was AWESOME. When they say they customize, they mean it. She really looked at my skin and figured out exactly what it needed. I did have two masks, but she did a ton of extractions so it was cool. I could feel the products she put on my face tingling. Always a good sign. She recommended a couple of products for me (the volcanic mud masque and the bio soothing creme, both EXCELLENT.) I was looking for a waxing spot near work to get a quick Brazilian on my lunch break, and Raya Taver Spa came up in my Yelp search. After reading all the great Yelp reviews, I decided to give it a shot since it's walking distance from my office. It did not disappoint! Raya Taver spa is clean, efficient and affordable. I arrived early and my esthetician was promptly in the waiting room to fetch and lead me to one of the several waxing rooms. They were set-up similar to a doctor's office and seemed very sterile. I noticed that the hot wax was sectioned into an individual container for me (and she threw the remainder of the wax away when I was finished) so I know there was no cross-contamination. My esthetician, Marina, was personable and professional. I hate the awkwardness of getting waxed down there, but this experience was as discreet as it could have been. I don't know what kind of wax they use, but this was the least painful Brazilian wax I've ever experienced. Before I knew it, the whole thing was over. I have sensitive skin, and Marina suggested purchasing the spa's calming mint gel to sooth my skin and help with ingrowns. It wasn't a hard product push though - she seemed to be genuinely recommending it to me, and so I purchased it. I was out of there six minutes before my appointment was supposed to start (since I was 10 minutes early and they took me ahead of time), so it was an extremely pleasant and efficient experience. And as mentioned, as someone who is used to paying $55-60 +tip for a Brazilian, the $39 fee was a welcome and affordable surprise. I'll definitely be back! :) read more

I'd like to say that I've had my share of visits to some lovely spas around LA- most of which are so expensive that its a luxury to even be able to step inside of one much less receive more than one treatment without feeling horrifically guilty for "indulging" in activities that i personally see as necessities! I recently got a spa facial and have to say it was amazing! I got to Raya an hour earlier my scheduled appointment. I was given a robe and slippers. The showers/steam room/ aroma room are clean, so I had a great time before my facial. They offer water, fruit, towels, all kind of lotions/creams/shampoo. I feel exceptionally confident in giving Raya 5 stars. I've been a loyal customer for the last 5 (or is it 6?) years. I've had massages here, one facial, and countless brazilian waxes. I'll speak to the latter here. Absolutely nothing worse than a long waxing session. Dude, this isn't a massage, I don't want it to last any longer than it has to. I want it to be super quick. And here, it is! And though people tried to sway me with promises of painless waxing via the new sugar wax/blue wax/whatever wax, I've tried those other waxes and still end up coming back to Raya. There's not one particular person I see when I'm there. I find that they're all "shameless" and will just pull you any which way they need to to finish your waxing sesh in about 10 minutes. No joke. Briefly, I'll mention that I've had better massages and that their microdermabrasion is quite the deal ($$). read more

I love Raya Taver so much that while Los Angeles is no longer home, I plan my trips back around my "lady business." I see Lena for facials and waxing and can also recommend Susan. Let's face it, waxing is not pleasant. At Raya, I always feel comfortable, well cared for, and not the least bit embarrassed, despite the fact Lena has been all up in my business (these women are thorough!). I went to a number of other places before finding my way to Raya and because I don't live in LA, sometimes go to other estheticians in other cites. I've found no one anywhere who provides such a high level of skin care expertise as do the women at Raya. And you can't beat the prices. Raya is more about quality of service and quality of products than it is about about flash and pretense. The front desk crew can be a bit off-putting but once you get past them and their attitudes, you'll be hooked. read more
