I've gotten over 25 items tailored here in the past year. The tailoring is great here. Raymond is a quiet guy who does his very best to complete the assigned task. Over the years of playing football and basketball, I developed a big backside and big legs. My waist is a 32, but don't be fooled: i still have to buy pants that are 38 in waist to compensate for my glutes :(. With that said, Suits bought from the store do not fit and often times feel like my jewels are being squeezed of their vitality. So I come here to get the waist expanded and the leg opening of my pants closed in to create that slim-fit look so many New Yorkers desire. It's a tricky process but Raymond nails it each and every time. I usually drop off anywhere from 5 to 9 items. Raymond will typically have them done in 7 days. I still have all my suits taken in here, and tailoring is good (although not always as aggressive as I have requested in terms of fit) but I was disappointed today at the significant increase in price, especially for a loyal customer who has spent hundreds here in the last two years alone. That said, pricing usually depends on which way the wind blows so we'll see what happens next time. read more

I think the prices are okay... and the quality is... well okay. This was my first time at Raimond's and I had saw all the positive reviews on Yelp. And yes he does have great turnaround time, and the quality is decent, but I had asked for a shirt to be taken in and it was almost gut wrenchingly tight. And with the pants alterations as well, he did a good job of getting the height right, but the hem style was a bit too simple and not really done properly. read more

They did a great job in a very timely fashion and for a great price! I needed to have a gown hemmed and was on the fence about whether or not the bodice needed to be taken in. They definitely could've upsold me, but told me there was no need. When I came back to pick up the dress, I tried it on in the shop and I was still questioning whether it needed to be taken in jussssst a touch. They put an extra hook on right there on the spot, and didn't even charge me extra! I know it probably didn't cost them all that much, but it was a nice gesture that will definitely ensure I'll be back. read more

I really wanted to find a quality tailor close to home. Having to handle all my business in the city can be inconvenient so I was hopeful that I could find someone close that could do a decent job. I am so glad I went by the reviews on this place. I brought in two pairs of slacks on Friday that needed to be shortened and the front pockets needed to be cut out and sewn closed because the outline of them really showed against the fabric of the legs. I went to a little change area to put the slacks on, explained what I needed and he said they'd be ready today which is Wednesday. My pants were ready on time as promised and they look great. They are the perfect length..no surprises....no uh-oh they're too short....he did it perfect. The pockets also look fantastic. The look of my slacks is sleek and fluid...lying perfectly flat...no lumpy pocket outlines anymore. I'm glad I traveled the short 7 ride over to this place. It's a clean, organized, professional place that does quality work. I found the price reasonable and I can't tell you how relieved I am to have come home and tried on altered pants that were done perfectly. This is my new go-to place for alterations. Hey guys, You can get a hold of Raymond through 347-462-6277. If things get bad, we can come together to file a claim against him. I'm also waiting for my pants after 4 weeks. Tried to pick up my jeans but the owner tried to give me the wrong pair. Owner keeps telling me to come back after a few days to pick up the jeans but no jeans... This has been happening at least 5 times where I tried to pick up my jeans but he keeps saying come back again... I understand the business had a fire but this is too unprofessional.... Six pieces for alterations= $64! Open until 7pm during the week and until 3pm Saturday I had 3 vintage skirts from a thrift shop, two had to be let out and one taken in. I almost didn't buy any of them because they didn't fit but I loved them. I was convinced to have them tailored so I took them to Raymond's because of the location, reviews, and price. Work quality is ok but you have to be very very specific as to what you want. Had a couple of shirts that I had to redo (and were charged both times) because they did not come out right the first time. Also items tend to have lots of loose threads and a weird smell to them (mixture of cologne and sweat) so had to launder before wearing. read more

This has been my go-to tailor since moving to the area a couple years ago. Raymond's has worked on countless projects for me, and I have always been very happy with their work and prices overall. I've had them restructure garments, take garments in, hem and lengthen. I've also used their dry cleaning services on a down jacket, and the jacket did not get ruined. They are usually able to get garments turned around for me within a week or even less if I need it in a pinch. I highly recommend this shop! read more

I have been using Raymond's tailoring service for the better part of a year now. I am a somewhat masculine presenting, female member of the LGBT community. I can tell you that Raymond is absolutely professional and the men in his shop have always treated me with respect and dignity every time I come in. I tailor a good portion of my clothing to fit my style because I prefer men's clothing but I like a woman's fit. It was important for me to find the right price, quality and level of comfort when I was looking for a shop, Raymond's has that all. I have tailored everything from full suits and a tuxedo (two sizes too big and men's sizing!), to my work shirts (he takes up the cuff and takes in the arms and sides to reduce puffiness), hems my pants, takes up the crotch and takes in the leg for a slim fit. He has also transformed beautiful vintage wool blazers to fit my petite frame as well as replaced the entire lining of a coat that I just could not let go of (it looks brand new now). I frequently have people at work comment that, "It looks like that shirt was made for you!", well, Raymond DID make it for me. My weekends usually consist of stopping by to bring them all my business for my clothing needs. As a matter of fact, I have a tuxedo shirt that was custom fitted to pick up tomorrow. I just transformed two of my mothers delicate vintage dresses from the late 70's/ early 80's completely to fit me. The arms were taken in along with the bust and waist area. They were also both hemmed (she is much taller than me). I would expect this to be at least 40 to 50 bucks (I've paid 50 in the past to hem ONE dress) it was 20 bucks altogether!!! read more

These guys are great. I've had lots of work done here and its all been great, but the one area where these guys really shine is when it comes to hemming jeans. I've given them very expensive jeans to be hemmed and they've always done a spectacular job. They cut the bottoms of the jeans and reuse the original aged and or frayed hem and reattach it with an invisible seam that is undetectable. Great little tailor shop that is just a block away from the 61st St/Woodside train station. I brought in a dress to get hemmed since it was too long and they were relatively quick. It was $45 due to the type of dress (bridesmaids) but still reasonable. Even though they are open at 8am on weekdays, they didn't open until about 8:15am on Thursday. I'm not sure if it's like that everyday, but just be aware. I was standing out in the cold for them to open-not fun. read more

I have recently been getting into menswear and that requires perfect fitting clothes. Being into fitness, it is difficult finding clothes that even fit. When they do fit my shoulders, they are way too long already because I have already sized up. I've had 3 suits tailored from getting my arms, waist, stomach, chest and legs all slimmed down to my custom fit after losing weight and they've done an amazing job. Prices are fair too. I've come here a few times to have my pants turned up because I'm to short and can never buy pants with the right length. They always do a good job, no problems. The bonus is there prices are cheap. I made the mistake of having Joseph A Bank tailor my "3 suits I bought for the price of 1". The tailor there must have been stoned as each suit was different waist sizes. NEVER TAKE YOUR SUITS TO JOSEPH A BANK!!! THANK YOU FOR YELP i found this place. They actually know what they're doing and will drive from Forest Hills to them every time I need something done. I have spent a god awful amount of money at this place getting all of my clothes tailored. Why? 2 reasons - (1) I buy way too many clothes (2) these guys are exceptional at tailoring things to the fine fine detail. HIGHLY recommended for any young males who want that tailored look. Just be patient to try things on and have them measure/pin, etc. Its worth the wait. Nothing beats a good fitting garment. read more

I've tried several places in western Queens and northern Brooklyn over the past few years and nothing compares to Raymonds in terms of quality of work and price. Mostly I get jeans and pants altered, so I can comment regarding suiting or other types of alterations. However, I did just get a hooded sweatshirt repaired here. After the first use the front zipper broke, meaning the entire zipper would need to be replaced. While most tailors would grumble about this and probably charge and arm and leg... Raymond did it at a reasonable price and no problems. This should definitely be your go to spot for basic alterations... you wallet and your sense of style will both like you for it :) read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE!! I started coming here because i read the yelp reviews and continued coming here for the last three years ever since I moved to Woodside. Usually to get my jackets tailored. They were never the nicest guys and rarely greeted me, usually just looked at me and waited for me to talk when I came in. Honestly a few times my jackets weren't tailors properly and wouldn't fit me. But I never brought in any expensive jackets knowing their work isn't up to par. I'm not much of a complainer and they weren't so horrible enough not to wear so I just let it go. But truth be told, I was just too lazy to look for a new tailor, especially with my hectic schedule. So I went last Monday with another jacket to get tailored. It was a simple sleeve job, not even an inch off. But the guy (only guy who speaks English and usually deals with the customers) told me it was gonna take a week since they were backed up. They never used to take that much time for a simple sleeve work done. I had asked if it could be done any earlier and he said earliest Sunday so I just said I'll come on Monday. So I went yesterday, which was Monday, to pick it up. I give that same guy my receipt and this is basically the conversation: Guy: It's not done yet. Come back tomorrow. Me: How come its not done yet? Guy: Your jacket needs special work done that only another guy can do and he's on vacation till tomorrow. (Mind you, there were THREE other guys in there working at that moment and it was the most simplest sleeve job) Me: So why did you tell me to come pick it up today if that guy was on vacation? (He had told me that it would be done earliest on Sunday at first so this didn't make any sense) Guy(in a very annoyed tone of voice): I don't know. Just come back tomorrow. Me: ummm okay... Then can you give me a dollar off since I have to wait another day? Guy walks over to my jacket, takes out the pins, and just hands me my jacket back. Wow seriously? Over a dollar? You can't just say no? I was completely dismayed. Rudest guy ever not to mention he didn't even want the business. The people who worked there have never been nice but that was unbelievable. Needless to say I won't ever come back but I really hope no one else does. No one deserves to be treated like that. read more

Had a pair of leather boots stretched and added sole enforcer for a very reasonable price. The man I dealt with was very personable and knowledge of his craft (you'd be surprised some "cobblers" don't know basic leather dos and don't). He even showed me various tiers of mink oil for boot maintenance. Anyways, my experience here was great and would definitely refer this cobbler for any repair, alterations or even leather cleaning. read more

The staff here is not very friendly. Although they're not mean in any way, they don't greet or smile so just tell them what you want done. This made things a bit uncomfortable. My fiancé brought his suit jacket in to be taken in at the sides and arms. The length of the sleeves had to be shortened as well. The guy instructed my fiancé to put on the jacket while he marked, tucked and pinned the areas needed work. This cost $65. I brought in a thin trench coat to have the sleeves shortened. He tucked and pinned. This cost $25. One week turnover. We gave them two weeks because we weren't in a rush. They couldn't find our jackets. Maybe we waited too long? I spotted our stuff from afar and had to go in and point it out. I noticed another customer doing the same thing. Our jackets fit perfectly and we didn't notice any issues with their work. Two words, waist suppression. I came here due to the positive reviews to have a couple of suits tailored. I immediately noticed how well the guys there set my suit to create the V shape in the torso. Total damage for two jackets and one pair of pants was $127. That may sound expensive, but if you're paying over $1K a suit, than paying $60/suit to make sure it fits amazingly is worth every penny. They quoted me seven days and after six it was done and looking great. Most guys buy suits off the rack and no matter how much the suit costs, if you don't have it tailored, it'll look like your dad's suit with a boxy torso and sleeves and pants that are too long. By taking your suit to a good tailor like this one, you'll come away looking like superman with a suit that looks like it was custom made for your body. Don't let a tailor tell you that you need to turn a double vent suit to a single vent to add waist suppression. A Good tailor can add the shape to your suit without changing the vents or creating the wrinkling on the back of the suit bad tailors make when they add waist suppression. read more
