I was referred to this shop by a friend of mine that I happen to work with. I have short hair and my hair has been damaged by hairdressers In the past. My friend spoke highly of Rene's work so I was confident that I would be taken care of. I came to the shop - I was 5 minutes late... When I got there I was told to "wait being I was late." All was understood - I waited for my turn to get combed out etc. Prior to my appointment, I confirmed the price of how much it would be to get my hair done with Renee through text. ( Permed, washed, styled and cut) Through text messages between Renee and I, I was informed that a perm was $65.00 and a cut was $20.00. I was also never informed that the shop did not take card - nonetheless I confirmed the shop not taking card upon my arrival. As I am sitting , waiting for my turn to be shampooed , Renee gets done with the client before me and states "Eryn, Lets go." in an aggravated tone. I held my tongue- proceeded to get my hair done as I thought maybe I am interpreting things wrong. At this point, I'm washed, permed, set and under the dryer. After getting done with the dryer I was told to go get cash out from bank of America etc. That was no problem, prior to proceeding to take the money out I confirmed the price of $85.00 with Renee. Renee then states that the perm would be $75.00 and the cut would be $25.00 . I questioned why the change in price and was informed that a virgin perm was used on my hair and she was unaware she would be cutting my hair into a particular style, (despite my multiple pictures sent to her phone.) I advised that all I had was $85.00 and was informed I can pay the remaining balance upon my return to the shop for a touch up. I went to get the money, returned and Proceeded to get my hair done. My hair was set and curled. I inquired about why the curls were so tight and told it was set like that to last longer. I understood completely , although requested to have the curls pulled out for a fuller look. After dealing with the stylist pushing my head back forcefully, and huffing and puffing I was fed up. From the time that I set my appointment over the phone to the time that I was physically at the shop getting my hair done I do feel I was spoken to as a child opposed to a paying customer. The upcharge is a small component to this issue as I understand you get what you pay for. Although, it is unfair to perform service on a paying customer and not advise them of a potential increase in price. I was continually asked about the hair loss in the center of my head which I understand is of concern for a stylist . When I advised that it is due to a traumatic experience and stress I was asked how long the hair loss had been present. When I stated "for years" Renee chuckled/laughed. I will play devils advocate and say maybe Renee is unaware of some of the things she does, although I left the shop in a funk and really feeling bad about myself. As prior stated you get what you pay for, and my hair does look nice and in tact and because of that Renee would have made her money from me. The upcharge was shady to me as things were not thoroughly explained during the process. I am secure enough in my self to know that I am made in Gods image so my hair loss being comical to her, is of her own concern. BUT, I do feel as if someone else might not allow things like this to roll off their back and it could be of potential business concern in the long run. I believe in giving credit where credit is due and Renee did a decent job on my hair. All in all I am more so disappointed in how I was treated more than anything. This is a very professional & family friendly barbershop. No cursing, loud music or inappropriate behavior. This is a great environment for kids & single moms looking for a place to take their boy without being harassed. The barbers work by appointment so call ahead or stop by to get on the schedule. Barber Shops are defined these days not only by how good you look once you leave, but also by the level of service you get when you're in and out of the chair. I started taking my son to Ray's last year and I'm extremely happy with how my kid looks once we leave, and I feel like I've just left hanging out at a good friends house, shooting the breeze.. Jose is always ready to chat up about any sports and relay honest commentary about the world today. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, because you need to make an appt. to be sure you don't sit and wait for a bit- but as I mentioned, that's not a bad thing because you're bound to make some friends. I have been getting my hair styled by Renee for almost two years. I have been very pleased with her services, both her kind spirit as well as her professionalism. She is very knowledgeable, uses great products, and wonderful conversation to add to the mix. Rene does great work. I was new to the area and she welcomed me and took time to explain what she was doing to my hair. She was also willing to give me tips for maintaining my hair between relaxers to keep it healthy on my own. She really views her relationships with her clients as a partnership to achieve and maintain awesome results. She cares about the health of her clients' hair AND she cares about her clients as people too. She will only provide services that she thinks will maintain healthy hair even if that means she is making less money. I've been going to her for about seven months and could not be happier. Very poor customer service!! Avoid at all cost. Barbers have poor attitudes and aren't sure if they want to cut hair or not.

I started looking for an honest-to-god barber shop after I got really tired of paying $20 for some 2-day barber school idiot at great clips, sport clips, super cuts, etc to cut my hair. Ray's Barber shop doesn't look like much but wow, I found my new barber. I've never had someone spend so much time on my hair. The attention to detail was amazing and I walked out of there with the best haircut I've ever gotten. The best part is that it only cost me $15 for a full haircut and a beard trim. I will go back again and again. Tip: They only accept cash, so be prepared. I had to leave to go find an ATM in order to pay them. read more

Sandwiched between Dallas and Fort Worth is Lewisville, and hidden in Ray's Barber Shop on Main Street is Lorelie -- the best flattop barber in the DFW metroplex. Until I met Lorelie, my general philosophy was that the best barbers were ugly old male barbers with World War II experience. Beautiful female salon stylists invariably can't handle the military precision of a flattop. When I first saw Lorelie and understood that she was not the receptionist, I almost walked out of the shop. She's about as far away from a World War II vet as you can get. But I learned her secret - she lived near Camp Pendleton and cut flattops for over 100 Marine recruits every day! I drive from Denton every two weeks to get my hair cut by her.
