I'm not a big B&B user, actually rarely. Normally if I'm in Chicago I would be staying with a major hotel chain. However after giving Ray's a try I'm sold on B&Bs, at least Ray's. Clean, comfortable, inviting, helpful, and above all friendly. The big bonus is the kitchen staff, very talented and will make you anything you ask for. I almost hesitate to write this review because I so desperately want Ray's to stay my own little secret, but this place is just too fantastic to not give it a shout out. This is hands-down the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Everyone there was sooo nice, the rooms were comfortable, and the breakfast was to die for. They will bend over backwards to make sure you are comfortable and happy. It was a level of hospitality that I have never experienced. You know its a great hotel when you feel like you have to hunt down all the staff to tell them good-bye when you leave :) Seriously, this B&B would make me want to go back to ANY town, much less Chicago. Great place stay. Very relaxed atmosphere with tons of things to look at in every nook and cranny! Breakfasts were wonderfully cooked and served until noon. Our room-room with a view-was fine. Bed was comfortable, the shower was small and the sink too big and deep with a horrible faucet. There are lots of room options and we would stay again if there opportunity arises. read more

I had a spacious apartment for my stay. The breakfast was homemade, carefully crafted and delicious. I so enjoyed meeting other visitors at breakfast each morning and learning more about what to do in Chicago. The owners were very helpful with information and made a couple calls for us and went out of their way generally. I recommend it. read more

I really liked this place. The rooms I had, Flamingo and Woodpecker were nice, both had good bathrooms. I was visiting DePaul University so it was very convenient. Breakfast was very good, I had a great omelette. Ray was a very engaging host I felt and the decor was very eclectic ! Yes, you can park on the street for free. But remember it is the big city, so places after about 6pm may be scarce, and bring your parallel parking skills. I will definitely return. read more

My husband and I recently stayed at Ray's while in Chicago for a friend's wedding, and I can't recommend it enough. We had the "Room with a View" that overlooks Leavitt St, which was very charming. PROS: * Really comfortable bed * Heated floor in the bathroom! * Wonderful hot, cooked to order breakfast in the morning ** Ray's chef handled my food allergies beautifully. I got a filling breakfast and didn't get ill. * Sam, the GM, is a treasure. She was genuinely friendly and helpful, and immediately made us feel at home. ** She arranged for a to-go breakfast for us on our last day, since we had to leave before breakfast hours for an early flight. * Bottled water and snacks available at any time, as well as additional towels, room in the fridge for guest meals, maps of the area, and pretty much anything else you could think of was ready and waiting. * Wifi was included * Great location! 6 blocks from the Blue line, and 3 blocks walk to several great restaurants on Damen. CONS: Not much. Would definitely stay here again the next time we are in town. read more

I've stayed at Ray's three times over the past year or so, so I guess it is no surprise that this review is a favorable one. Reading over previous posts I just wish I could be as eloquent as others in writing such a thing. Ray's Bucktown B&B is clean, fun, in a great location, and becoming a bit of a home away from home for me. Ray and his staff are pleasant and helpful. On my most recent visit my wife came along and she found the place very pleasant as well. We stayed in the Annex and enjoyed it. On each visit I've stayed in a different room. All were very comfortable. There is a correlation from my limited sample between room price and room size - not surprising I guess - but as a normally hotel chain kind of person I had to learn this for myself. We will certainly continue to go to Ray's when in Chicago. read more

We found this place after spending a horrible night at an AirBnB property. We were lucky enough to find that Ray's Bucktown Bed and Breakfast had an open room with a King sized bed and private bathroom. We felt rescued and that we had found an oasis. While our room had a King sized bed there are also other rooms with various bed configurations and can accommodate families. Ray's Bucktown B&B is not only a great B&B, but is also a really cool museum full of the art, ceramics and photographs that Ray has collected. The common areas have large tables, sofas, chairs and a variety of board games and books. There are also two patios available, one of which is on the roof with a big umbrella. They grow many of the herbs and vegetables they use on the roof so it is a very comforting and inviting area. The Breakfast part of the B&B is just wonderful. While they have an extensive breakfast menu (breakfast is served until noon!), you can also order whatever you want. The staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable about the area and enjoys conversing with you. The neighborhood is really nice with lots of interesting architecture and is located within walking distance of many restaurants and bars in the Bucktown and Logan Square neighborhoods. read more

My son lives in the adjoining neighborhood called Wickerpark so staying at Ray's in the adjoining neighborhood of Bucktown was VERY convenient. I found it on google and was unable to find more recent reviews online but when I called they couldn't have been more accommodating with my inquiry. I arrived at the Western stop on the Blue line from O'Hare and couldn't find a cab, called Rays to ask for a cab co. # and instead Ray came to pick me up and brought me to my new "home away from home". The staff could NOT have been more helpful, congenial or hospitable. Over the 3 days I was there I couldn't have been more pleased. I stayed in The Room With a View in the main building which is a climb up a winding staircase and where at night I'd have to step over a black cat. Somehow he/she was never there in the morning. The room was clean,bright sunshine in the morning and the shower and BR perfect. The TV didn't work, but I'm not a TV subscriber. My son joined me for breakfast both mornings and we didn't get hungry again till dinnertime. The food is made to order and I came home with the recipe for their fruit compote which I piled high on top of my multigrain toast each morning. This place is a jewel of a find and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. read more

What a find Ray's B & B is for anyone looking for genuine home hospitality, cooked to order amazing breakfasts, and a friendly caring staff! Ray was able to accommodate my last minute request for a larger room and even had a space in his parking garage where I could safely store my car while in town. There are enough common spaces within Ray's B & B to offer privacy and comfort even when the place is full, and the collectibles and amenities that are available made it feel like a home away from home. Ray makes each visitor feel special and goes out of his way to be available for suggestions and ideas to make your stay in Chicago as perfect as possible. He and his staff also cook up some of the best breakfasts I've eaten in town! This is my new Go To place when I stay in Chicago. I cannot recommend it highly enough! read more

Our stay at Ray's was great as always. Ray, Samantha and Kelly could not have been nicer. I consider this place a mini museum. The collectibles that fill this place are a walk through time. Pez dispensors? Everywhere you look there are memories on display. Not too mention the over the top breakfasts. Any way you like it. Smoked salmon scrambled eggs. Need I say more? We loved our stay at this B&B. The highlight was the breakfast and the unique style of antiques. It brought back many childhood memories. The room was spacious enough for my husband and I and we enjoyed the jetted tub and great water pressure in the shower. We were on a waitlist and we so happy when Ray called. Bucktown was a fun place to pub crawl and boutique shop and we had some nice meals. Short walk to the Blue Line to downtown as well. Taxi to the BB from downtown was only 14.00. We would stay again and recommend this location! read more

This is among the best bed and breakfast locations we have ever found anywhere. We recently stayed five nights at Ray's quaint and eclectic place. Since we were going to be staying five nights, we opted to pay a little more for a larger room. We were in "Room With A View," and it was a nice size. Some friends joined us for two nights and had a smaller room, which they said was fine for a couple of nights but would have been too small for a longer stay. The decor at Ray's is unusual and probably not for everyone, but that quickly became just a conversation topic after we started talking to Ray and his great staff. The service and breakfasts at Ray's are what rate our five stars. The staff is genuinely friendly and helpful. Breakfast is amazing -- including a menu and special of the day. Or you can challenge them with a special order. If they can do it, they will. Next time we're back in Chicago, we'll stay in charming Bucktown and return to Ray's for sure. read more

Loved the B&B! I think its best feature were that the rooms were cute and cozy. We loved our cozy room, The Da Vinci Room. Also, the service was excellent and I loved the breakfast. It was a very complete breakfast with lots of options. Great neighborhood too, we liked that it's in a fun and interesting (not stuffy) part of town. The only drawback was that the sauna wasn't working when we were there. read more

My parents stayed here for 2 weeks while visiting my family when we had a new baby. Ray was so incredibly warm and welcoming to them- and provided accessible rooms to stay in. From their fabulous breakfasts, wonderful rooms, great staff and incorporated "concierge" (they don't call it that, but it is) service, I cannot imagine spending time in Chicago without being at Ray's! I cannot say enough about this FABULOUS B&B! Ray has the most pleasant home right in the heart of Chicago. Tucked behind beautifully vinery covered windows, a little B&B waits to delight you. The home is eccentrically sophisticated and the staff is simply delightful. Desiree is hands down the SWEETEST person and the BEST cook I've ever had. Breakfast is a must have. Piping hot food, cooked to order with any modification or want you have. It is absolutely divine. Hand made and all from scratch. You simply can't get better quality breakfast. Ray is a fantastic owner. We mentioned our room was a little warm and Ray replaced the A/C unit before we returned from our outing. Anything we needed or even thought we wanted was provided to us with a smile and swiftness. I want to LIVE here. When I come back to Chicago, I know where I'm staying. The best damn B&B in Chicago!! I invited my daughter and grandsons to stay with me in the DaVinci Room last week, although my five-year old grandson said he did not want to stay at a hotel. I explained the difference between a hotel and a B & B. Everyone had an enjoyable time. Ray took us on a tour of the facility and was available to answer questions and to accommodate any requests we had. My grandsons enjoyed themselves by playing games and playing in the Jacuzzi. Now my five-year old grandson checked his calendar and asked if we could return to Ray's B & B for seven days during Spring Break. There were so many fascinating memorabilia placed throughout the entire facility. It was nice to watch my daughter relax away from home. The cook-to-order breakfast in the morning was delicious, coupled with the fresh fruit we ate while breakfast was being prepared. My pancakes were hot and flavorful. I had a thick piece of ham and the breakfast red potatoes that were baked in olive oil with fresh rosemary and garlic, was to die for. I like red potatoes so much that I tried the recipe at home. After my daughter took my grandsons to school, I had an opportunity to spend some "me" time alone for a few hours. I look forward to returning very soon and I recommend others to enjoy the very comfortable ambience and personable staff of Ray's B&B. read more
