Found it to be a beautiful B&B, rebuilt within the shell of a townhouse, on a quiet street near Old Town. Got the best room 301 in front with a balcony. Great view of the city toward Willis Tower. There are also decks in back and on the roof. It was so quiet I thought we must be the only ones there till we went down to the free continental breakfast and saw it was fully booked. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

The mansion is stunningly beautiful and the ambiance transported us far from the daily grind. Breakfasts exceeded expectations. Snacks, including homemade banana nut bread, and a large variety of beverages are always available. HVAC and shower temperatures could have been better but those issues pale in comparison to the total experience. The mansion was built in the 1870's so retrofitting can't be perfect. Our stay, however, was close to perfect. The location of the villa could not be better for exploring Chicago away from downtown shopping districts. We will return. Highly recommended!

It has been updated and featured beautiful furnishings and artwork. Don, who is the owner, was a gracious and proud host. He makes the check-in process easy and sends guests daily updates via text.. Although a continental breakfast was provided each day, a cook prepared breakfast tacos and tortillas our first two mornings. Both were very tasty. The kitchen is available around the clock if you want to make a panni sandwich. They also had housemade lasagna in the refrigerator for a quick 2-minute reheating in the microwave. Our charming unit is probably one of the smallest in the building, but it was perfect for us, as we were visiting relatives nearby. It included a bed, desk, bath and fireplace. It did have an outdoor patio and direct access to the complex's hot tub. The unit's shower is in the hallway near the front door, not in the bath itself. That was odd, but we made it work. Staying in late February, our $189 night rate was extremely fair for what we received. We plan to return soon.

First, they made me put a $350 deposit down and told me that if I did not cancel at the 2 weeks to go time point I would then be liable for the cost of my full stay if they did not fill the room. Then, I learned from reviews, and after my wife talked to the owner, that the "breakfast" part of the deal was not quite the B&B experience I'm used to. It's more like a continental set-up with like hot scrambled eggs. Not the home-cooked interesting breakfast items served by the house, different items each day. This was not disclosed to me when I called to make the reservation. Then, when I decided to cancel (mainly for those reasons), 3 weeks out from my date, the house withheld $50 of my $350. This was not disclosed to me when I called to make the reservation. The lady said it was on the "small print" of the email, and indeed it was. BAD PRACTICE! Maybe if you are a frequent visitor and you've enjoyed your stay, great. If you're coming from out of town and never went there, consider these practices. NOT GOOD.

There's a closet with clothing steamers (a must have hotel item for me!), irons and DISTILLED WATER. Anyone who is serious about steaming uses distilled water to do it. (Thank you for knowing this, Publishing House!) I went directly to this closet to get myself a steamer! There's a kitchen where you can make yourself a pot of tea (or coffee) any time, a fridge you can put your food in, and a beautifully appointed living room that you can hang out in (with, or without, your friends). I don't usually eat breakfast but the breakfast (included in your stay!) is too good to pass up! Glorious cooked breakfasts plus fruit, granola, yogurt, and homemade baked goods. The staff is made up of talented and attractive staff who are also kind and helpful. The Publishing House is my dream come true. If I could find a place like it in New York, Toronto, and LA I'd be 10X happier to travel to those cities.

Quiet, exquisitely comfortable bed, spotlessly clean and uniquely decorated (in all the right ways). We felt like we were guests in the amazing home of a contemporary art collector. The pantry was a treat for quick snacks and refrigerator space. Breakfasts were inventive, delicious and health conscious. The "public" areas were spacious enough to share with other guests easily, nothing like a hotel lobby lounge. The hosts were great with communicating check-in and checkout, as well as friendly tips about the front door during a humid weekend. The list of restaurants and local shops was beyond useful. We also enjoyed happy hour in the affiliated restaurant below. This was our first trip to Chicago in a long time, we had such a good time, we'll be back in the fall and the Publishing House B&B will be our first choice to stay.

You have your own private separate bathroom that you can lock and on the third floor there is kind of a meeting area and quiet time starts at 11 PM. They offer a ton of boardgames. If you have a group of people as well as there is a group refrigerator. We all had a chance to visit the speakeasy in the basement and it was so cool and the history of this place really blew me away. The guy at the front desk was really cool and friendly. This hotel is it within walking distance of anything you can imagine in Wrigleyville and there's a small very continental breakfast in the morning which is basically a couple pastries, coffee, orange juice, and hard boiled eggs. Again, I think I paid well under $200 here a night, and it was totally worth it and I plan to come back as long as I can stay in room 3A or 2A.

It's freezing the codes not working and she wants money to talk to her on the phone just to get into the room you've already paid for??? Wow that's some seriously entitled attitude. I finally get in after 50 different steps like an easter egg hunt. Different keys that aren't labeled for bathroom and bedroom. Keys are in a lock box that you need another code to get into. When I did finally get ahold of the "inn keeper" more old fashioned hospitality she rudely tells me that the directions are in one the lengthy emails she sent. She just couldn't be bothered to due her job and actually check people inn. But she instead sent me 50 different emails. The beds are squeaky with big dips, indents and broken springs. Extremely uncomfortable. Their useful life probably ended 10 years ago but she obviously doesn't care to replace them. The bathroom that was in my room was clearly a total afterthought added to the room. The quality of the work done is that of extremely unskilled no experience home owner special. Definitely not done up to code and barely functional. looked janky and done super cheap, probably by someone who doesn't even own a tape measurer. After I checked out the hotel owner tried to scam me out of an additional $70 more dollars for a robe she says was in my room. This hotel has those $ 50 cent gym towels not actual bath towels let alone a bath robe. Strange I stayed here twice and neither time was there a bath robe in the room. SCAM alert when I tried to stay here I booked the room for one price it was paid for but when I tried to check in the hotel completely cat fished and up'd the price claiming it was the websites error. I don't think it was an error, But once you book it seems super shady to change that price after. But shady is this hotels middle name. I really don't have anything good to say about this place, except for maybe its location.

The decor and overall feel rival the Peninsula, and it feels upscale the moment you walk in. We wrapped up a week in Chicago with our last two nights here after checking out of the Peninsula. We originally had an Executive Suite, which actually felt newer and more modern. We were then given a complimentary upgrade to a huge Lakeside Suite with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the lake, an incredible view to wake up to. The only downside was that some furnishings in the larger suite felt a bit more dated than in the smaller Executive Suite. The complimentary bottle of champagne, fruit plate, and chocolates were a great touch and made the stay feel special. Overall, a gorgeous property in a prime location, with stunning common areas and just a little inconsistency in room decor, still a strong four star stay in Chicago.

We had 2 large suitcases, a large duffel bag. And a large cooler that they expected us to walk over 2 miles with to the house to check in... We never made it in the building - after about a half hour of calling and messaging with no response from owners we left to book another hotel over 20 minutes further and at another 200.00 in costs... we had no way to cancel the room backseat we couldn't get ahold of anyone so they said because we didn't cancel they are kept 80.00 of the 94.05 we paid to book the room stating well we said parking was first come first serve.... YEAH LESS THEN 24HRS BEFORE OUR RESERVATION WHEN IT WAS ALREADY TO LATE TO CANCEL THE ROOM.... SCAM SCAM SCAM WITH NO RESPONSE OWNERS STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOUSE - It completely ruined me from ever staying at a bed and breakfast and definitely check out all their other bad reviews...

There's friendly notes everywhere and fun art. There's even a gold ET In the TV room. The kitchen is open and is stocked with breakfast deliciousness. honestly, I don't know there are t more reviews. We have to go to Rockford, but my kid loves it here and would rather be here the whole time. He's 9 and is super hard to please.
