Grab & Go Breakfast with homemade espresso lattes!!
    Tammel N.

Harvey house bed-and-breakfast was the Best place I've been to for staycation in a while!! Beth was super sweet very attentive and quickly responded to anything I needed during my stay. The Jimmy Stewart suite is super gorgeous amazing Decour and feels so luxurious. Since it's Covid time there is grab and go Breakfast but Beth does heat everything up and she actually makes great quality espressos or lattes for you in fancy little mugs! Again, I honestly couldn't have asked for more the jet tubs are also so nice. My first night after taking a shower I did run water for the tub and the first large bit of it was hot after that the hot water did run out a bit but the rest of my stay the hot water was on and working great! Do not walk run to this place because it's definitely amazing I'm already figuring out my next stay for even longer worth every penny!!!

The Harvey House is truly beautiful and our (Jimmy Stewart) suite in particular was fantastic. Lots of charming appointments, like a towel warmer, a huge luxe bathroom, a magnificent bed, a lovely chaise. My wife absolutely swooned over our suite. The space is airy , fresh and very large. The living room common area is also very lovely and comfortable and the breakfast was a dutch baby (they incorrectly called a turn over) with syrup, fresh fruit, eggs bacon and sausage. Excellent! The location is terrific as well and on the whole, I would say the value is excellent. But there were some serious miscues. We were greeted by the innkeeper who escorted us to her front parlor which was a disaster. Cluttered and fuggly, we literally thought about leaving right then. It scared us that the rest of the property would be this disheveled. The patio in the rear was also messy and not ready for spring. The most serious irritation was something I found really unacceptable. When you arrive at a B&B on vacation from your troubles and strife, you expect serenity. We were bombarded with prattle about how the economy has adversely affected her business, the pressure from her loans, how she can't pay herself back and other business concerns. How the place is too fancy her tastes and it wouldn't be this nice if she wasn't running a B&B. I simply don't want to hear any of this. It gyps the guest of the B&B charm. When the air conditioning didn't work, we had to hear long explanations about why, and what is and isn't working, and why its probably the thermostat, or the wiring is connecting, etc... Eventually she got a window unit in the room, which did the trick. Bravo! But why the 45 minutes of ceaseless gabbing. This place would be near perfect if the owner confined her conversation to warm, SHORT AND CONCISE welcoming language.

I really can't say enough about how wonderful Harvey House is! Beautifully decorated common spaces, kind and professional staff and hands down one of the best breakfasts I've had. The Jimmy Stewart Suite was spacious with a jacuzzi tub (perfect for relaxing). We only stayed one night but are already planning another visit!

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday, (10-02-15) it was our first time at a B&B, I Loved it! I couldn't get over how big and lovely the house was, the lavish furniture and decorations, how friendly the staff was, and how you really get so much more than just a room. You get the whole kitchen, dinning room, living rooms, outside patio seating and free parking. We stayed in their Garden Suite it had a king bed, robes/slippers, spa bathroom with 2person jettub, lotions and candles, a tv with a DVD player, double sided fireplace that connects the bed to the bath, & crazy different mood lighting throughout. After that room and the breakfast where you can choose Whatever you want and how much you want, I don't see us ever staying at a hotel in Chicago again. It's such a little jewel in downtown Oak Park, we even decided to walk around the neighborhood it was so pretty and found a nice place for dinner. We're already planning a second visit. I've seen other B&Bs but this one is a 5-Star experience!

I stayed in Harvey House in April of 2008 for my anniversary. I loved the Victorian home with all the improvements! It was beautifully appointed with a very tasteful blend of antiques and modern furniture and details. The hostess was very charming and invited us to a dinner party she was having in the home for her friends. That was thoughtful. Our room was comfortable, clean and beautiful...the fireplace knocked us out!! I hung out in the open livingroom area, perused books and had wine. Breakfast the next morning was a feast!! Those puff pancakes.... The hostess was very cordial and my husband and I enjoyed the conversation! I highly recommend.......

The rooms have everything I want: a place to hang my clothes, shelves to put my things, a desk to work upon, an easy to connect to bluetooth speaker, nice bath products, and a comfy bed with great sheets. There's a closet with clothing steamers (a must have hotel item for me!), irons and DISTILLED WATER. Anyone who is serious about steaming uses distilled water to do it. (Thank you for knowing this, Publishing House!) I went directly to this closet to get myself a steamer! There's a kitchen where you can make yourself a pot of tea (or coffee) any time, a fridge you can put your food in, and a beautifully appointed living room that you can hang out in (with, or without, your friends). I don't usually eat breakfast but the breakfast (included in your stay!) is too good to pass up! Glorious cooked breakfasts plus fruit, granola, yogurt, and homemade baked goods. The staff is made up of talented and attractive staff who are also kind and helpful. The Publishing House is my dream come true. If I could find a place like it in New York, Toronto, and LA I'd be 10X happier to travel to those cities.

However, Jim (the owner and host), was extremely gracious and welcoming. We went straight to our rooms after a brief "interview" with Jim. Necessary to determine our likes and dislikes for breakfast. Our rooms were beautiful. Impeccably kept. We learned Jim is responsible for laying the tile in the bathrooms. There aren't any televisions in the rooms on purpose. I'll be sure to pack a book next time I stay at a B&B. Our daughter was with us so it was nice to visit with her instead of being distracted by a television. Our first morning, we had breakfast with a few of the other guests. Jim prepared Scrambled Eggs served in a Roasted Bell Pepper, with Asparagus, Garlic Grits (AMAZING), salad and fruit. Prior to receiving our main breakfast course, we were served warm, cinnamon bananas and also a chocolate croissant. The next morning, we had a private breakfast. We were served Poached Pears, a Carrot Cake muffin, followed by Quiche, Potatoes, Sausage, & fruit. Both days, Jim catered to my daughter's dislike of eggs making her French Toast with Cinnamon Apples the first day and Oatmeal with Cinnamon Apples (our suggestion) the second day. The entire Inn is very inviting. Jim sat with us at breakfast our second and last morning and shared his story with us. Highly recommend the Valparaiso Inn. So glad we were booked here.

As the summer season wrapped up on Labor Day weekend, I am so glad I found Thyme for Bed on bedandbreakfast.com when looking for getaways not-too-far from our Chicago home. Bill and Crystal are the new innkeepers at this unique and cozy B&B in the middle of cornfields and far enough away from the city lights that you feel like your in your own little bubbled respite. And when I say bubble, I mean literally, the giant concrete sphere makes that feeling a bit of a unbelievable reality. Upon arrival, Crystal gave us the grand tour of the one-of-a-kind dome, and we got the inside scoop on lots of details about the structure itself. And while we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Pheasant Room, we can't wait to go back to enjoy a stay in the Santa Fe-esque "In Your Dreams" Master Suite. The beautiful gem-walled walk-in shower power base bed, and huge jacuzzi was more than enough to convince us. :-) Of course, the down-to-earth hospitality of Bill and Crystal were the icing on the cake. We left feeling like a part of the family, and with bellies full of homemade yogurt parfait, delicious fresh peach topped french toast tartlet, and cinnamon scones lingering in our taste buds.

They stayed up until we arrived at 10pm and we chatted with the lovely couple for almost an hour after that- just about life! They were so friendly and easy to talk to, and if we had not been so tired we would have loved to continue talking to them over coffer. We learned a lot of interesting facts about the Dome and that it is the probably the safest place in case of any natural disaster or fire. Our stay was short (just one night) but we would love to come back just to have a more relaxing stay and enjoy the beautiful outdoors around the Dome as well. The room was certainly a fun design and everything was super clean. There was coffee, tea, water, and snacks at the ready right outside our room upstairs, available at any time. We had to wake up and leave pretty early (7AM) the next morning to catch our flight from Chicago and Bill & Crystal both woke up early to see us off. They also made us coffee and orange scones (which were delicious) for the road. We really appreciated their closeness and openness- definitely a must see place and a great B&B. We hope to be back! This is not necessarily a negative but there was ALOT of furniture everywhere. I can see some people not liking this because it does feel as if you are literally in someone else's home- but I thought it made it a little more authentic. The more you got to know the owners, the more fitting it felt.
