This place perplexes me. They charge more than Reproductions, but apparently the same as Pixels, for prints, and are pretty arcane as far as how they operate. They are very respectful, and called me when everything was ready. I came in sportin' some New Yorkese b/c I asked them over the phone and via email to remove a makeup smudge in a shot and they completely fixed something that hadn't even caught my attention instead. I used Reproductions in NY, and may just go back to them, or try NoHo if it's cheaper for my other shot to be printed. I gave them a whole bunch of money for a whole bunch of nickel and dime things, and yet, I feel dissatisfied. I ended up begging a graphic designer friend to retouch my photos instead- she's a genius, subtle, and doesn't nickel and dime over how much every little thing is going to cost. Avoid at ALL COSTS! These guys are a joke. Got my headshots printed there, ordered their retouching service for a couple of the photos my agent chose. They emailed me and told me my photos were ready to be reviewed. I went in to see them and it looked as if a child had done them in adobe paint. I mean seriously, this is what I paid for?? The teeth were unbelievably white.. I mean, so white that you couldn't see the lines/spacing in-between each individual tooth. It was like I had a mouth full of foam! I told the lady.. "So wait, you had me drive all the way down here to approve this?" And to my chagrin, she replies, "I have to have you look at the final product". You've got to be kidding me! If you can't see the teeth/it looks like the guy has a PLATINUM GRILL in his mouth, why in the world would I come down here and need to review that?!?! Fix it! That's what I paid for in the retouching fee! She then tells me I need to pay an extra $10 for additional retouching. WOW! The audacity. Next I needed a link put up of the photographs from my session. Well, I was reluctant, but I figured, hell.. since I am here, whatever, I'll do it. They told me the link would be up in 24 hours. I mean, how hard is it to upload 100 pictures onto a website?? Definitely not 48 HOURS hard. Still no link. (Thus why I am writing this review). I give these guys 2-stars because as others have stated, their staff is really nice. But come on. They claim they've been doing this for 15+ years. . . they should have their act together. And personally, politeness is not an adequate substitute for incompetence. So, my fellow actors, I urge you to go somewhere else. Save your time, hassle, and headache. read more

Love this place. I had some shots I'd taken for a photo class that I wanted professionally printed. I was completely satisfied with the results. The employees are very friendly, and they didn't even mind that I brought my dog in. I got five shots printed, it cost about $72. I dropped them off Friday and they were ready on Monday. They even called to let me know when they were done! I'm not sure how their prices compare to other places, but you definitely get what you pay for here. read more

If someone pays you $70 to do some simple retouching of a photo, don't force them to choose between handing over an additional $10 for a disc of the images or $5 for an email with the hi-res image attached. Especially after they weren't in love with the work that you did and had to ask you to make some changes. Just give them back the product however they'd like, smile and say thank you. That's what your competition does, Ray. Because it's good customer service. And people eventually flock to the places that have that. If you need retouching done, go to Pixels on Melrose or try any other place. Unless you like slow turn-over and extra charges that serve no purpose. read more

I've ben a customer of Ray's Retouchers for 15 years and counting. They're still the best photo shop in town, I've tried others with big-shot attitudes but Ray's keeps it courteous and gets the job done. I've had several "winning" headshots printed there and the ones I've just picked up are sure to give me greater success this year... Thank You, Liliy, Matt and the rest of the Ray's personnel... The staff here is awesome! Everyone that helped me was incredible. I've had a bad experience at another lab but was blown away at how great Rays was. Pricing is average but service and prints are superior. Keep an eye out for their monthly specials to save the extra $. I can't complain, I needed head shots right away and they delivered. Customer service was Excellent! I was going to get my head shots someplace else and they kinda gave me attitude and they were even less expensive but I didn't want to work with people like that it just turned me off. I even made two separate orders and ray's delivered them the same time cutting my shipping costs. The head shots turned out really nice and very good quality, they were customer friendly, high quality, and you get what you pay for. I'm really pleased.
