This year, I went early season on Clear Creek and loved it so much I came back late season for Gore Canyon- an adrenaline-packed, fun adventure! The day started with a swim test to make sure everyone was prepared before tackling Class V rapids. (Honestly, if you're not a strong swimmer, this trip isn't for you, they do test your swimming in the rapids and throughout the trip over half of the people across our 5 rafts ended up in the water at some point! Additionally this would be quite the dive into the deep end if you've never rafted before!) The trip was an incredible mix of thrills, skill, and crazy beautiful scenery you would not have guessed was there when you drive into Kremmling. Midway through, we stopped for snacks, and when we wrapped up, the crew served a delicious lunch and cold beers (NA options were there too!) such a nice touch after a big day! What sets Liquid Descent apart is the crew. Every guide I've had has been dedicated to making the trip special. I've talked to them and many of them have said they specifically choose to work here because of the company's extra training and the sense of community. I even met the owner yesterday at Gore Canyon, and you can tell the company's passion for customer experience comes directly from the top. Specifically the last 2 guides I've had, Jordan and Malia have been awesome! Yes, most rafting companies use the same put-in/take-out points and similar gear but the experience is what makes the difference. With Liquid Descent, the guides make sure it's the best it can be and their love for their job ensures you're going to have a great time. I've rafted with other companies in locations where liquid descent isnt and know: the right guide changes everything. I was so nervous walking in, but from the moment we arrived, every single staff member made us feel welcomed, safe, and supported. Our guide, Koa, was the perfect balance of fun, kind, and incredibly skilled. He guided us through the rapids with such confidence and ease while also making sure everyone felt safe and included. He checked in on us several times throughout and made sure we were having fun, asked us if we wanted to "spice it up" a bit or keep it mellow and just really let us know this was "our" trip and he's cater to what we wanted. I quickly found myself letting go of fear and enjoying the moment... something I didn't expect would happen. Koa's energy was contagious, and his calm, respectful nature made us feel like we were in the best hands possible. At one point on the river, another rafting company had a mishap and we had to pull over and wait for them to recover and get their riders back into the raft safely. Koa explained what had happened with total grace - no judgment, no gossip - just a calm and respectful explanation. He also spoke so kindly of his own coworkers and even the owner of Liquid Descent. You could tell he genuinely cares about the rafting community and takes pride in his work and LOVES his Liquid Descent family! Every employee we encountered was friendly, encouraging, and helpful - from getting us fitted with helmets and life jackets to cheering us on as we headed out. As someone who started out nervous, that kind of supportive vibe made a huge difference. They encouraged me, and they helped me push past my comfort zone in the best way possible. Things to know. 1. if in summer, even on weekdays you will need to call and make your reservations in advance. Most likely they will not have boats available if you just do a drop in. You are able to call and reserve 14 days in advance. 2. the amounts of people allowed in the boats are different than what is on their website. it is actually less now for some reason???? not sure what that is. but hopefully they update it to be accurate at some point soon. 3. The prices listed on the website is for the boat only. It does not include gas. 4. They had half day or all day rentals available. 5. If you want to pull a tube behind, the tubes they sell in the marina span between $150-$260!!! YIKES. You will also need a tow rope and y line and that will add another $70. I called all over to see if there was a place that would rent these items and the answer is no :( We used one of our river tubes from home and well it was not the BEST but the girls made the most of it. 6. when you get there you go down around back of the marina and go to the building with the blue roof to check in at. 7. you can bring food and beverages on the boats, but if you make too much of a mess you will get charged a cleaning fee. 8. they will hold your drivers license and credit card while you are out on the boat. 9. They do give a you a boat talk to tell you how to make the boat run. The fellas down at the dock where very friendly. They were helpful and really made everyone feel comfortable. They helped us figure out how to tie our tube on even though it was not quite what they are used to. They also hooked up our y hook up and towline. 10. After you done, you will want to go up to the marina to pay. They take your stuff up there. That was not totally clear and i was hanging around down at the dock. You can paddleboard and kayak down below the marina if you want. You are not supposed to swim in the lake except at the swim beach.

Elaine took our reservation and Renée had our boat all ready to go when we arrived this morning. The two friends who were going to be driving were given detailed instructions on what routes on the lake were safe for boating (there are some shallow areas and areas that have underwater obstructions-- most of which are well marked, but a few that needed to be pointed out.) The pontoon boat "Isabelle" was beautifully equipped, ran very smoothly and had lots of comfortable seating. The boat was equipped with modern electronic equipment so we could track its route on our cell phones! We returned mid-trip to pick up one of our late arriving guests and the staff was ready to help us dock so he could easily board the boat. There are clean bathrooms at the marina, reasonably priced drinks, snacks and apparel. We had a fabulous experience and would highly recommend Trail Ridge Marina for boat rentals and their excellent customer service!

I had a really fun day at Grand Lake when I was visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. I spent an…read moreentire day here and enjoyed walking along the shores of the lake. I was craving to get into the water after seeing all the kayaks out there. Mountain Paddlers made it really easy for me to rent a kayak. You can rent online ahead of time or they take walk-ups if there are kayaks available. You can reserve either a solo or tandem kayak on an hourly basis at the Kayak Shak near the beach. After making payment, you then take your receipt to the loading area to get into your kayak. There are staff members on hand to help you into your kayak. The kayaks are comfortable and sturdy and suitable for all ages. The staff went over the boundaries of the lake with me and the fun places to go exploring. They also gave me a dry bag to put my phone and keys in. I had a blast kayaking all around Grand Lake. It is such a beautiful lake and there is lots to explore. I really enjoyed the mountain views and the fresh air. I was able to make my way over to Shadow Mountain Lake. I highly recommend checking out Mountain Paddlers if you are spending a day here. The rental process was simple and the service was great.
