Here are the lowlights of my experience with Matt: --Communication was a nightmare. He responded to me while he was doing the job (a plus!) but he was more interested in complimenting his own work, man-splaining, and cracking corny jokes than he was in listening my concerns. Whenever there was a problem, he blamed someone else. ---Cost was very high. This is my fault , as I should have gotten more estimates. --The work was below average. For example, Matt installed a bifold door. He asked if I wanted it painted and when I asked if it would need to be painted, he said it was up to me. I opted to leave it unpainted but had no idea that Matt would leave pencil marks and scuffs all over it. By that time, I was so tired of interacting with him that I decided to paint it myself. Less than three months later, the door came off the track and the pin that holds it in place will not go back in. I've been trying to get him to come back to fix the door (as per his warranty) for two weeks. Ha! Who am I kidding? I could go on but you get the drift. Save yourself some money and headaches and find someone else.

I felt so secure in their hands that I was comfortable leaving them to work alone. Even when the cabinet company (KraftMaid, via HomeDepot) sent a few damaged cabinet doors and a cabinet base, Luis and his team were there, accommodating every time another door arrived damaged. Aside from that, this is an old building. It is amazing that it is standing because not one wall is straight, nor the floor or the ceiling. You will not see any of that when you look at my kitchen. Luis and his team managed to "camouflage" it. My budget and the final approval would not allow for any major wall changes besides plastering. They also replaced my floor from tile to parquet-looking. There was an issue with leveling with the saddle of the living room floor, but they worked it out amazingly, too. So thank you, Gotham Builders of NY. I enjoy looking and cooking in my new kitchen.

Additionally, I had planned to just lay new shingles over the existing ones. Along with that, there was an issue with the roof over the portico by my front door that had to be fixed. Gina came by, took pictures, and told me exactly what they would do. She then pointed out one of the possible reasons I was having a leak in the house. (Shingles were installed improperly) BTW: Gina had just come back on the redeye from the West Coast, after attending a construction conference. She was so determined to see my house, and put all the necessary wheels in motion ASAP - she showed up SUNDAY, 7:30 AM - where most people would have gone home to get some sleep, she was there to help my project get started! (And was there throughout the whole process as well) We then discussed the difference in price for installing over the existing roof versus installing a completely new (ripping the old one off) roof. The cost, though not cheap, was better than anything I had been quoted prior to this. I ultimately decided to install a completely new roof. The roofers managed to take down the old roof, and install the new one in less than 10 hours (this was done in late November, and it got dark by 5:30), including cleanup of all debris! The gutter people who were subcontracted, did a great job with one minor exception. When I contacted Gina, her response was "I'll take care of it immediately". Two days later, the guys came by, and fixed the problem in about 20 minutes! Like the solar company that hired them, I felt confident from the first moment, that not only would the job be done right; Marcor would stand behind their work and deal with any problems - no questions asked. Marcor lists themselves as a roofing company - if you are in need of a new roof, or simply a repair on your existing roof, I would wholeheartedly recommend you get in touch with this company!
