Typical Mexican fare for a good price, exactly what we were looking for. Food was good and server's friendly.

Visiting for the weekend from Atlanta and stopped by for a quick lunch. When driving around the parking lot I noticed they have a to-go window, that's genius! Upon entry I was greeted immediately and sat in a comfortable booth by the window. My server was super nice and extremely accommodating. I ordered Chicken Tortilla soup with cotija cheese, avocado and lime with no tortillas. The soup was the perfect temperature to begin eating after it was set. The flavor was exactly what I was expecting. The chicken was tender and the soup was seasoned and spiced perfectly. I did not try the chips and salsa but I heard someone mention how great it is. Lastly, I enjoyed a top shelf frozen margarita. The balance of citrus and sweet made for one of the best margaritas I have had. read more

This used to be our go-to Mexican restaurant. Recently the food hasn't been as good and service has gotten pretty slow. The last time we were there, we had made a reservation for a Friday night for 14 people. When we got there, they had us down for Saturday. They found a table for us which was good, but we were seated by the register, a high traffic area. We made the reservation specifically to avoid getting this table. This would have been fine except the manager (owner?) got an attitude and let us know, "we don't make reservations for Friday nights." Ok, but they did when we called. If it was a problem, they should have let us know when we called the day before to confirm. read more

I got the jumbo (24 oz) gold margarita, which didn't disappoint! Great flavor and a nice kick of alcohol. SO and I split the parrillada Mexicans for two, and it was SO much food! We had to pay $1.50 for extra tortillas, bcuz the entree definitely doesn't come with enough for two. The beef,shrimp, chicken, pork and chorizo all had good flavor, but the shrimp was def the best. The entree came with two separate plates of rice, beans and toppings. Some of the rice was crunchy, but it all had good flavor. Five stars because these guys have the best Mexican food in the area. It's not fancy, but it is fast, friendly, and damn good! We have been here many times and it's almost always excellent. In fact, I can't remember ever having a single issue with anything here. Chips and salsa are really good! You gotta love when this basic staple is done well. I feel like if these two items are always consistent among visits you can count on the food being consistent as well. There are a lot of Mexican places in Olive Branch and inconsistent food and service is a major theme in all of them. So you'll know how much I prefer this place over all of the others I won't mention, I'll note that I drive past at least seven other Mexican restaurants to get here. The flavors of this place were pretty good. I ordered a "build your own" lunch plate with a tamale, Chile relleno, and house potatoes. Chile relleno had great flavor, but the pepper was undercooked and got very soggy by the time it was brought to me. The tamale was also good, but smothered in some sort of bean and meat mixture. I'm not sure if I have seen anything like that, and I believe it was to cover up a poor tamale. The house potatoes were not good. Soggy potatoes with another meat mixture on top. Prices were great. I got a huge plate of food for less than $10. Margaritas were okay, more sugar than tequila involved. read more

The food was not good, and more attention could have been placed on preparing a better quality dish. The service was horrible. The service was racially motivated and in speaking to the management, they took no accountability for their staff. The management team stood solely on the side of the staff and defended the wrong doing of the staff. The Upper management ignored the issues and complaints and said that there was nothing they could do about any of the issues of poor service. Unheard of. In the end, I had to pay for uneaten nasty food (tasted and pushed aside), and a drink that was missing the main ingredient. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It was the bold racial undertones that was worse than anything else. Sited first yet, serviced last. When your order is that after those who came after you come, eat and leave; that is a bold statement. Don't go there. read more

Was excited to try this place. Chips and salsa were good, but the dish I had Chori Pollo was terrible. Food came out hot, but the dish had so much grease or oil on it, it was not edible. This is a kind a new restaurant on Goodman road called Cinco de Mayo so we decided to give this place a try.. they have pretty good pricing.. they have many lunch specials every day of the week. Full bar..A nice size restaurant with plenty of seating. We will come another time to give it a try with some other menu items. We just popped in for a quick lunch, it was fast and OK with the portions the server was extremely nice and very friendly so we will just come back again for another good sampling of food. I've lived in this area for about 15 years and I've seen several restaurants try to make it in this building. If my memory serves me this is the third Mexican restaurant. I've hoped that someone could sell a product out of here that would keep them in business and so far no one has even come close. Cinco De Mayo might be the one to finally change the luck of this building. We came in Saturday night for dinner and there were just a few tables occupied, hopefully that changes soon. The service, food and drinks were way above average for Mexican food in Desoto County. Let's start with the Margaritas. We ordered a couple of frozen Margaritas and we waited for quite some time. Finally the waiter came by to explain they hadn't turned the machine on and it would be a little longer of a wait for them to freeze, no problem just bring a couple on the rocks. It wasn't long before the waiter brought us our two Margaritas on the rocks and they were fantastic! A perfect blend of fresh juices and tequila. The next round we did get frozen and they were just as good and may just be the best Margaritas in the area, frozen or on the rocks. The chips and salsa were good however I wish the salsa was a little thicker. It was more of the consistency of hot sauce than salsa, very thin but tasty and a nice amount of heat. I like a chunkier salsa though. The white cheese dip was better than any I've ever had hands down. The menu is quite different than most Mexican restaurants in the area and for that I am very happy. I've tried ordering what most refer to as "Street Taco's" at several places in the area and no one has come close to a real authentic taco but Cinco De Mayo hit it out of the park. I got two soft corn tortillas with grilled chicken, cilantro and onions and they were delicious. Each taco had two tortillas and were loaded with chicken. We also ordered a burrito special with shredded chicken. The chicken was all white meat and was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I like what they've done inside. The last try at Mexican here just had no positive atmosphere at all. It was too bright and just didn't have a good vibe. It looked like they were trying to be more of a sports bar. The bar is set up nice and the entire place is just so much more inviting now. If you're in the area give this place a try. I hope they can turn this location into a great place to get some great Mexican food for a long time to come. We can't wait to go back! read more

We ordered our favorite - the savory Molcejete, which two of us shared. No need to get the Molcejete for two unless you have a very hearty appetite because the dish is ample. It won't burn your mouth (especially helpful if you're sharing with a heat-intolerant eating partner). I could slap my momma for not introducing me to cactus! It's so good. The meats, the vegetables, the gravy are all so tasty. They also give you rice, beans, and a cheese filled soft taco in addition to tortillas. The service is always good, and our servers have always been bilingual, friendly, and quick to respond when you let them know you need something; otherwise, they let you enjoy your food and friends. The music isn't too loud and the crowd isn't too rowdy on a late Friday afternoon. It does fill up fast, though, but I seldom see anybody waiting very long for service. I came here because of the raving reviews and high rating- surely this was going to be exceptional. Right? The salsa and cheese dip were good. The margaritas were tastier than I have had in in the area. Our server was so wonderful and very kind. I really wanted to like it here. I ordered the chicken soup and my husband ordered the Cinco de Mayo Burrito (chicken). Absolutely ZERO flavor in the chicken. It was so disappointing for us both. The broth also lacked flavor and "sazón." And goodness, I tried my best to make it digestible. I added plenty of salt and squeezed some lime wedges to no avail. Because of the high ratings, I will try this restaurant again. Maybe we didn't order the right things, or they were having an "off" day. This place is a lot like everything else out here that consider themselves as "authentic" Mexican food. It's the same westernized food that wants to please the surrounding population with a bland taste rather than stick to their roots and how it's actually supposed to taste. The chips were way better because they were cantina style and the salsa shouldn't even be considered as salsa. They say it's freshly made but to me it tastes more like the watered down tomato paste they serve everywhere else. I ordered the 3 different meat chimichanga plate. They were shrimp, spicy chicken, and shredded beef. They were decent, but they were more like taquitos instead. They were rolled up and open ended rather than closed like a burrito. The white cheese sauce they put on it was the best part. Whatever that sauce was, it was good. The rice and beans that came with the plate were so bland and had no flavor; tastes like everywhere else. They do have good deals on drink specials at happy hour. They have 10oz draft beers for only $1.99, including premium beers. That was really worth the price. The overall experience was decent and the food was ok. The flavors were mediocre with some of my food but not all of it. Only reason I would come back is for the drink specials. read more
