Bartolla has been washing my hair for almost a decade and all the stylist , Megalina, Nikki, Minorca.. I can go on and on are really great at what they do. I know people tend to complain about the wait.. But who doesn't and it does get busy. But all hair salons are busy and if they're not, isn't that telling you something? They are very very good and very inexepnsive at what they do well -- keratin treatments at lower cost than any other salon in this part of LI ($120 for shoulder length hair) and hair roller and/or blow outs. This expertise makes them not the best choice for hair cuts. Also, they can only style hair one way - dead straight. I never go on a Saturday as they function by mass production rather than one customer at a time. No appointments needed but it will take hours and it gets very crowded. Because I don't like my hair to be dead straight, I've seen other customers leave after they dry their rollered hair so they do their own blow outs. The pricing is so inexpensive that it's worth to finish your hair at home and get a better result. read more

Today was my very first time in the salon. I was impressed with how all of the stylists worked as a team, assuring that all guests were treated in a timely fashion. This doesn't happen in many other salons due to stylists not allowing their fellow stylists to assist with their clients that may be waiting. I am so excited to have found my new stylist! Elena. First time here the other day. As soon as I walk in the girl in the front is rude and has a nasty attitude. I was like fine we all have bad days at work whatever. So I ask for a wash and blow out nothing crazy.. Some girl sits me down and as soon as she starts to wash my hair. Oh my god she literally dug her nails in my scalp. I was so uncomfortable and I could no longer wait till she was done. Then I get sat and this woman immediately starts to do my hair and she burned me about 3 times and when I would move my head away because of the pain.. she would suck her teeth. Horrible customer service! And to top it off I got charged an extra 10$ for 'additional charges' when I clearly only got my hair blow dried. Ridiculous. My hair didn't even last for the next day it looks burned and ugly. Don't go here. read more

I wish I could give zero stars because I am beyond disappointed!!! I've been a loyal customer back when they had that one small place in queens. I moved to long island and still traveled to their new bigger queens location. I stopped going there because I felt like not only did the parking suck but since they got bigger so the professionalism went down the hill as well. They talk about you In Spanish not knowing who understands. So I ended up by the Baldwin location and thought I'd give it a try. EPIC FAIL! Unprofessional and just flat out RUDE!! I use to go to this salon every other week but stop going because I moved I went in for a wash and and blow dry no roller set the lady that washed my hair continued to recommend perm or a treatment I told her no several times I'm not to sure what this salon put in my hair but after 2 weeks I washed my hair at home and literally clumps of hair is falling my hair will not go back to its natural curl pattern and when my hair is wet it smells like a perm I wish I never went here I regret it read more

I've usually had good experiences coming here. I've tried some other salons but reaction does it the best. I usually can trust that my hair will look great no matter what. It does bother me that they charge $20 for a blow out and straight when a full wash 'n' set costs $25 but I should've known better to just let them do everything. I was a customer here off and on for the last 6 or 7 years. Always paid $27 for a wash and set with natural hair. Tonight the girl tells me it's $45 because of the new price list. It changed 2 weeks ago. My black beautician charges $40 for a silk press. Do yourself a favor and stay away from here!!! read more

I came in to get my hair washed and set and they left me under the dryer for a very long time! Then when I finally got out they skipped me blow drying my hair! The put 2 people in front of me! And they didn't even apologize! When they saw I was upset they just asked me to pay before I get my hair blown out so I don't walk out without paying since I waited such a long time! I have been a long time customer over the years and I notice they have become very very comfortable with the customers by skipping them in line! Let's start by saying that I haven't been to a salon for a wash and set in about 5 years so I didn't know what to expect. This place was recommended by many so I decided to give it a try. I arrived sunday at 7:30 am but it was packed with maybe 20 ppl. The website says they open at 7:30 but clearly it's way before that to have so many ppl under the dryer by then. I arrived and was greeted by the cashier, she asked what services I needed and asked who was my preference for blow drying my hair. I didn't have one being my first time there. I proceeded to the wash bowl and the washer washed my hair with their products even though I bought my own. She was very good. I felt like my hair was really clean. She also detangled my hair very well. I haven't had a relaxer in a yr or so, so my hair tangles easily. She put in the deep conditioner and i sat under the dryer. I'm not going to lie it's like a sweat shop for wash and sets. All in all I would go here once a year when I straighten my hair. This is not a salon that is about the health of your hair. I was pleased with the results. I was out at 9:15 am which isn't bad at all. I paid $37 for wash, set and deep conditioner. read more

Yes, this place is inexpensive and the ladies work quickly. That's the only reason they deserve at latest 1 star, and nothing more. If you care about the health of your hair then this is not the place for you. If you're natural (4a hair and up) don't bother with this place. From time to time I wear weaves as a protective style and mainly to give my hair a break from manipulation and harsh weather. Every single time I went for a wash and set they never let me stay under the dryer to make sure my own hair braided below the weave was dry. I had to invest in a soft bonnet dryer and dry my braids when I got home after paying to get my hair done. Weave wearers know you have to make sure your braids are dry to avoid mildrew n a stinky weave. The final straw was when I went to get my own hair washed, set, and blown out. The lady who washed and set my hair had no idea how to wash natural hair. I have 4a/4b, thick coily/ kinky curly, bra strap length hair. She washed my hair vigorously like I was one of the relaxed girls. My hair was soooooooo tangled. I came in with fully detangled hair and prepoo'd. I had to stop her bc in trying to detangle my hair she was pulling so hard and violently. Now for the that roller set. Why did this woman have the nerve to further detangle my then super thick hair with a rat-tail comb. Plus she started to detangle from my roots instead of starting at my ends and working her way up like your supposed to!!!!! Needless to say clumps of my hair was all over the floor. She ripped my hair out so bad and did so much damage that I'm re-transitioning all over again. I transitioned before for 2yrs b/c I refused to do the big chop. So after finally reaching 1 full year of being natural, I was set back so drastically. My hair has never been the same. I'm growing my hair back out to get the thick full hair I once had back again. Ohhhh and yws I suffered major heat damage bc the other lady blew my hair out until it was bone straight. I looked like I had a relaxer. I cried so much that day when I realized how badly they destroyed my hair after 3 years into my journey. read more

Where do I start? I walked in & was greeted, gave my name & was then told to have a seat toward the back of the salon. I proceeded to wait for 30 MINUTES. After that, I went back to the front & told the girl that I was leaving. She promised that I was next so I waited another 15 & was finally called to the chair. I sat down & attempted to give the woman my shampoo & conditioner, but she told me to wait until she washed my hair. Lol. I explained that's what it was for. She shampooed my hair like 4 times (wtf) and then used 2 pumps of my conditioner & said that it didn't work for my hair. I have a lion's mane of hair, anyone looking at it should know you need lots of conditioner to detangle, especially if it's your JOB to know that. She immediately slapped some of whatever conditioner they had into my hair (without asking me, I'm trying to steer clear of chemicals, which is why I brought my own products). I was so annoyed that I couldn't even speak so I just went to the chair to have the rollers put in. She complained that I had a lot of hair in Spanish while she put the rollers in, assuming that I wouldn't understand. I went under the dryer for about 45 minutes, put myself back for another 20 and then still proceeded to wait at least 90 minutes to be blown out because they had "5 weaves today & only 2 stylists working". So I Gave Them 4 Stars At First But I'm Taking Away 2 Because I Went There Today For A Perm For The First Time. I Usually Go To A Place In Queens For My Perm But They Were Closed. So I Said Hey , Let Me Give Them A Try Since I Go There For A Wash And Set. Bad Choice! She Burned The Sh*t Out Of My Scalp. Now I Got Scabs In My Head . No I Was Not Scratching Or Combing My Hair For About 4 Days Bc I Knew I Was Getting A Perm(Wore A Dirty Bun). Anyways When I Told Her It Was Burning She Took Her Slow Time To Finish. So I Had To Remind Her Again That My Hair Was Burning And She Still Took Her Time To Set Up To Wash My Hair Out. My Head Was Burning So Bad It Was Still Burning Through The Wash And Deep Conditioner Smh. Then My Dumb A** Had The Nerve To Get A Rinse Bc That Sh*t Burned Too ! Never Again . I have been going to Reaction for over 7 years. Chela, the owner, is fantastic! The salon is beautiful and well-kept. The stylists are excellent, courteous, professional, and highly-skilled. They work quickly and can give you a 1 hour wash, roll and blow in 1 hour on most days. That's why I like the salon. The be been to All 3 salons: Jamaica once, Baldwin many times and Westbury many times. They all run smoothly. When I first came to the salon, my hair was short with unexplained breakage and damage. I went to the salon each Sunday for wash, blow dry, and curl. My hair grew incredibly under their care. The breakage stopped. My hair is healthy now. I receive almost weekly compliments about my hair color. I am proud to tell people to check out Reaction Salon. Please know that Yelp reviews after April 2019 are most probably from a disgruntled ex-employee of the salon who may be seeking to damage the salon's reputation to increase their own chances. Don't believe the fake news. The salon has stood the test of time. Their success is evident from the 3 salons the owner has: Westbury, Baldwin, and Jamaica. I have been here for a few times, most recently for a pre-Thanksgiving hair emergency. I came because my regular stylist (who is AMAZING) doesn't work on Sundays, she charges $55 for a wash, set and press and she also doesn't take card. Showed up around 2 p.m. on Sunday, it was packed! No one greeted me and I was kinda shooed to the back when one of the stylists asked me what I wanted. Eventually someone called me to the bowl and she gave me the most lazy, painful wash ever. She barely washed the back of my head and I had to ask her to focus on the back because it looked like she was ready to finish. I also don't remember if she used conditioner on my hair. They roller set me and I sat under the dryer for about an hour. I sit in the stylist chair and she comments that my hair is still wet... umm, duh. I have about 18 inches of hair and only sat under the dryer for an hour. She blew me out, pressed my edges and curled the ends. I got in my car only to discover my hair was still very, very damp (it was 30 degrees outside). I got home and also discovered my hair was still dirty. I'm giving them 3 stars because my hair does look really nice AND get this, they only charged me $27. I was shockED. They tried to charge me for deep conditioner and I had to let them know I don't even think I got regular conditioner. $27!!! I have a thick, long weave... I think the cost was a mistake and I may regret this review when my cheap a** goes back, but I was very happy at not having to pay an arm and a leg for mediocre service. Anyway, I wouldn't go to them for a weave or for healthy hair care, but for a blowout... most definitely. Just come with realistic expectations. read more

please do not go to this salon. They are dirty and very unprofessional. They let an unlicensed person apply color to my hair and then blamed me when I complained that the color was wrong. Clearly she added some sort of developer to it because my brown hair turned blond in some spots and completely broke off within a few days. Do not let them reuse plastic caps , that is illegal and not hygienic. I really wanted to support a business run by brown people but they do not value their customers and refuse to take responsibility for their mistakes. it's disgraceful and I expect them to be shut down by the health department soon. read more

My experience at this salon was HORRIFIC!!!! Naturalista Beware!!! I have been growing my natural hair out for 4.5 years and in one wash and set experience with this salon my hair was burnt and falling out in clumps. The salon owners did not take responsibility of the situation and I now have to nurse my hair back to health. If my hair was just heat damaged (meaning the curl pattern was damaged) I probably would be mad but would not go to the extreme of writing this review, but when my hair started to fall out in clumps that is a different story. Before I went to this salon I asked if they had experience with working with afro textured hair and the owner on the phone assured me that she did. They had NO clue. They did not detange my hair properly and constantly tried to use a small tooth comb, the products were horrible and did not put moisture back in my hair, and the excessive heat and rough handling of my hair demonstrated that their only goal was to straighten my hair and not to care for the health of my hair. Due to the experience with this salon I am left with bald spots and hair that is weakened and the density is much thinner. When I called the salon the owner took no ownership of what happened and told me that maybe I had alopecia. My hair was healthy, thick, and on my back when I entered the salon. The only issue that I had was that my hair needed with be washed and that it was dry. I good deep conditioner could of solved that. The deep conditioner that they used on my hair was no good. I would NOT recommend this salon at all!!!!!!!!!!!!. Lesson learned the hard way. read more

I used to go to reaction quite often when I was younger and I would usually get a sew in weave which they charged $175 for (waayyy to expensive by the way). I am back in town and decided to try them out one more time because there aren't many salons nearby, the first mistake. When I walked in nobody said anything to me for at least 10 minutes, when I finally told them I wanted them to braid my hair as if I was getting a sew in they looked at me like I was crazy. Finally, once they understood what I was asking for I had to wait for 3 HOURS! At least 5 women walked in after me and they got treated and left before me. Also, they must think I can't understand Spanish because I heard them talk about my "rough hair" through their giggles and stares. She gave me 6 braids not how I wanted them at all and charged me $60!! I shook my head handed her the money and walked out, she really expected a tip. I won't be coming back here ever again. read more
