Even though our hospital experience was a bad one I thought the ER was a good experience as far as ER's go. My mom was taken here by ambulance. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called the hospital and they picked up quickly and let me know where I need to go to see my mom.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upon checking in the extremely friendly security guard escorted my wife and I where they were holding my mom.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Since she arrived by ambulance she was taken straight in so I can't comment on the waiting room experience. My mom is not the easiest patient so I was really impressed by Kevin who was taking care of her. Even though I am sure he's swamped he never showed it. He was always kind, patient, and quick to help my mom when she needed something. They got her into a CT scan and head MRI really fast, within an hour of arrival. My mom was really confused and agitated but their kindness never stopped. They brought us three chairs too so my wife, dad, and myself could visit comfortably. She was there from 11am to about 8pm before getting her a bed in the hospital. Unfortunately the hospital itself was not a good experience but I will write about that separately. If your emergency is going to require overnight stay you really should go elsewhere. FYI, there's free parking dedicated to the ER. The driveway is past the street taking you to the parking garage which charges $4 to $6. Garage is free after 6pm and there's free parking in surrounding streets for 2 hours if willing to walk. read more

Had to take a friend to the ER . I really was not up to a crowded ER , and everything that can go with it. We arrived and found easy parking I put him in a wheelchair and pushed him in to reception. Not too many people waiting so good first impression . This is a small ER and was only recently acquired by UCI. The staff were helpful he was informed he would need to be admired our wait for a bed was around 1&1/2 hours which is by ER standards quick . Time will tell how good the care is but this is a quality option . read more

This is regarding the service when you call in to simply ask what the wait time is for patients in the ER. I'd like to note that I've also called other hospitals today who were friendly and just gave a time of how long patients have been waiting. If I could leave less than 1 star I would gladly do it. My family has been in and out of hospitals my whole life. This is the worst triage system I have ever witnessed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Don't expect to be treated with dignity or respect. The front staff and nurses do not care nor have a shred of humility in their bones.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After multiple tests we have been waiting for over five hours and not once has a doctor come out to discuss a single result. They make the patient walk around unnecessarily to do get an iv placed, to go back and do an ekg to go back and draw blood then come back and get a cup for urinalysis. They don't place you in beds and make all the patients wait in the waiting room instead of placing them in an actual bed or room with privacy and decency. The ct scan?? Well they don't keep radiologist on staff on the weekends and out source to a company. As a result you're stuck waiting for 5 hours for a single result. The patient next to me has been waiting for 7 hours. Meanwhile other patients who have had ct scans after ours have received their results and been discharged. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When you ask to speak to a doctor they let you know the reason why is they are waiting for all results to come back before speaking to the client.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This is by far the biggest joke of a hospital. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Client satisfaction? Client happiness? You want to retain clientele? None of these are checked off by this place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Meanwhile the injection you give for pain for the client is going to wear off before they get to go home and your back in the same boat as when you arrived. Shame on this place. My family will never come back to this sham of a hospital. There are several other hospitals around this area and we happened to choose this one. Do yourself a favor and skip the hassle and poor medical attention and go to a better closer option. Should have read the reviews prior to coming here but hey your an emergency hospital here for emergencies? Shame on you Los alamitos hospital. You would think being paired up with UCI you would have better care. Nope. This place is unnecessary and not worth the grief while you are already going through a poor situation. read more

Avoid this facility if you value compassion and professionalism. [[HIGHLIGHT]]During a very difficult time for our family, the staff here -- including some of the doctors and nurses -- were dismissive, rude, and made unprofessional assumptions about my loved one.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Several times, we were cut off mid-sentence, ignored, or treated like we were a nuisance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] To make things worse, when the nurse called security on us -- just for trying to get help for our loved one -- the security officer looked directly at her, asked her if she was OK, and then just walked away. That alone told me everything I needed to know: even he knew there was no real reason for the call. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was humiliating and completely unnecessary. We were just trying to advocate for someone in pain, and instead we were treated like a problem.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]That said, not everyone was unkind -- there was one nurse who treated us with compassion and respect. She smiled, listened, and made us feel human -- and we truly appreciated her.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But overall, this felt less like a hospital and more like a high school clique. I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone. Think twice before trusting your loved ones to this place during an emergency. read more

I will not return here. I went on a Friday morning at 11AM after being sent by my family physician. The waiting room was standing room only with patients and family, and I ended up waiting over six hours. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A person behind the counter checked me in and said there were 22 people ahead of me, so the wait would be long.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I waited in the hallway, standing most of the time because I kept giving me seat away to incoming patients who needed to sit. Some should have been allowed to lay down in my opinion, but were not. As the patient numbers continued to increase in the waiting room, I noticed several who needed immediate treatment - first aid - but were ignored. An elderly woman with a facial laceration was checked in and told to sit down. An ice pack and a bandage would have provided relief. A teenager with an obviously dislocated shoulder wearing only swim shorts and a towel was told to wait. He was in considerable pain and was given no help for an hour until his outspoken and demanding father arrived. They could have at least immobilized his arm while he waited. An elderly woman had to physically hold her very sick husband up for hours as he continually nodded off and nearly fell out of his wheel chair. I understand that they were very busy and that they didn't have enough staff to handle the large number of patients. That's the point. This E.R. does not have the facility or personnel to handle the increasing demand from the community. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While I was finally being seen, I was told by an employee that this facility can't handle the demand, that this is the norm and has been increasing for many months.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The doctors, nurses, and technicians were all capable, but were significantly overworked. Next time I need emergency care, I'll go to an Urgent Care center. read more

First and last time. The triaging of homeless people that fill up the ER is enough to keep me away. I've been dealing with their billing department for almost a year, and it's been a nightmare. They keep sending me bills that are much higher than the amount listed on my insurance company's Explanation of Benefits (EOB). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Even my insurance company has tried contacting them multiple times but had a hard time communicating -- the billing staff barely speak English and seem to have no understanding of what an EOB means.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Instead of resolving the issue, they continue to send incorrect bills and even threaten that nonpayment could hurt my credit. It's been extremely stressful and unprofessional. The doctors and nurses at this location are great -- very professional and caring -- but the billing department completely ruins the experience. I strongly recommend avoiding this location until their billing issues are fixed. read more

I have come here three times in my life as it was the closest ER to my parents house and I feel very confident in my 1 star rating. The first time, I was a freshman in college and had just had my tonsils removed. A couple of days after surgery my throat would not stop bleeding. I went to the ER and all the did was sit me in a corner and give me ice chips. I somehow owed them thousands of dollars for this visit. Strike one. The second time, I came to the ER after some weeks of feeling utterly horrible and indescribable pain in my mid 20's. After becoming hospitalized for 2 days, the doctors there didn't know what was wrong with me and said because they could not figure it out, there were going to just send me home even though I was having active fevers and aggressive chills in front of them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had to fight and argue with them not to send me home because I had been suffering for so long and even had what appeared to be brain swelling symptoms.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Finally the infectious disease doctor came in and told me he would run some more tests. After treating me with doxycycline (a drug that covers most infectious diseases) I eventually tested positive for TYPHUS. The brain swelling was rare side effect of the disease. Had I not advocated for myself they would have sent me home and I might not be here today. Strike two. The final time was in my 30s and I came in with random abdomen pain I was experiencing at my parents house. When I got to the ER I wasn't able to be seen for awhile and by the time I was seen, the pain had gone away. I had a urine test, basic blood test, and an ultra sound conducted anyway but they could not diagnose me. I was released within 3 hours. However, the bill I received was for over $16K. I disputed the bill and after disputing it, the hospital decided to INCREASE the charges saying my ER visit should have had a higher level even though I received no drugs, no one diagnosed me, and I was released in no more than 3 hours for abdominal pain. I WILL NEVER return to any UCI Health facility because of this. I'd rather run the risk of going to hospital farther away than go to one their facilities. At lease at the Los Alamitos location, they choose to send you home with active symptoms and charge you to high heaven even when you dont have any. read more

This went from one of the best and efficient ERs in the area to the worst I've ever experienced. Starting off, check in and getting seated is smooth, even get the labwork and other specialty needs is quick. The issue came afterwards. We waited over 4 hours before we were called to discharge, this was already after 5 hours of the initial waiting. We were given someone else's paperwork with the incorrect diagnosis completely. When we questioned it, the RN asked what the doctor said. We said we never spoke with a doctor. He called for the doctor. After an hour, we were put in a room and the specialty doctor wanted to perform something that was for a different person altogether (different name but same specialist needed). [[HIGHLIGHT]]She had no idea what we were in for, had no information on the results and overall had poor bedside manners.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When we finally got our paperwork, again we received someone else's paperwork in our paperwork. I'll never go back to this ER. It sucks since it was really great before, but UCI made it a very disorganized and poorly ran facility, in addition to the HIPAA violations giving us other people's paperwork. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The front desk help had attitude beyond belief, but once a patient left the desk they were all friendly with their friends right after giving the impression that us patients were a bother to them.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I felt bad for the nurse that was on, I believe her name was Alyssa. She was overworked for sure but she was making sure everyone was being helped in a timely manner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Despite waiting for 6 1/2 hours without receiving any update or test results I decided to leave.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I never received my test results and it's been 2 weeks since this visit. That is, with out reservation or qualification, we can rate them as the Gold standard for treating patients...especially "out of town" senior citizens. My wife's head injury was treated with thoroughness and compassion. Every detail of the diagnosis and treatment was explained in understandable terms, patience and no drama. Timelines and continuity of care were highly efficient. We noticed that this was their standard method for treating every client in their care. Steady...personable and highly professional interactions despite a heavy volume of diverse, hurting patients. We give each of you in the ER who worked with us on Saturday afternoon on February 7th, 2026 a standing ovation, our gratitude and respect. I'm a 27 male who came in for a knee infection. It's been over 5 hours and I'm still waiting. If you have no choice but to go to the er due to urgent care not being able to handle your case, bring a tablet preloaded with movies as the WiFi sucks and data is spotty (even Verizon 5g business). Also note you can bring food inside. I caved at hour 4 and had my gf bring me in n out. I enjoyed it in er hallway. Also note chick fil a closes at 7pm here for some reason like Sunday wasn't enough. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff, white doctor with blue eyes, especially the Asian nurse at the front side desk were overall inattentive and lazy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After checking in with the doctor, he wanted to run a few tests. We waited 2 hours after and checked back in, comes to find out he never sent in an order the CT scan.. which we waited 2 hours waiting to be called in for. The doctor also told the nurse he didn't remember speaking to us when he did a full check in. To top it off it wasn't remotely close to being busy for him to forget that he just spoke with us less than an hour ago. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Besides the point, another hour passed and checked back in with the Asian nurse, instead of doing her job she was yapping with another nurse for a good 5 min after asking what I needed. The other nurse had to tap her shoulder to let her know I was waiting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She informed me that blood and urine test were normal and was waiting on the CT results. I asked for a copy of the results in the meantime and she then stated the doctor has to review it and no results are ready but yet she just went over the results. I have been in emergency for 9 hrs. There wasn't a radiologist available to read the tests. At 11:30 pm they decided to test the enzyme levels for heart attacks even though there were no heart symptoms. In fact , I was a return patient diagnosed with colitis. At 11 I had to be moved to the main er because the one I was in was closing. When I was relocated I asked for a pillow and blanket. I was given a blanket to use as a pillow and the individual who assisted me dropped 2 blankets on the bed for me to open and arrange myself. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I indicated I might have a problem with transportation home given the time. The nurse said I would probably have to call a taxi.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm now looking for a new primary care Dr so I never have to come to this hospital again! read more

My husband suffered from a seizure and we were left unattended in the waiting room for over an hour while he drained of life and finally when we were seen we had to beg for water just to keep his head up. After another hour and a half of him waiting in the back, the doc came back and didn't even know what my husband was there for. The ambulance called them informing them we would be there and they took absolutely no action. What kind of care is that? NEVER coming back here ever again. Worst hospital on the planet. I regret taking my mom to this place. Rude nurses and we believe that my mom was over medicated.

Brought my little brother to the hospital because he had a high fever, was vomiting and had chills, they took him in took his vitals and said to just wait a few minutes and they would take him to a room. We waited 2hours before they finally took him back gave him nausea medicine and still had him go back to the waiting room bc there were NO rooms available. Why lie when they said it would be a few minutes if they already knew there was no rooms. Then a wife comes in with her husband said hes having a heart attack they took their time checking him in, finally take him back and kick her out of the room bc he's having a massive heart attack, if they wouldn't have wasted time trying to check him in they could have treated the heart attack bc it got worse. Worst mistake I made by bringing him here, still waiting for them to take my brother back but they sure did make sure they got their copay of $300 already, but can't take him to a room. Save your time and go to a better hospital. If I could I would have given zero stars read more

Took my sister here December 17th at 915p. Told them she had a 9.5 cm cyst that may have ruptured or perhaps appendicitis. At 3am they sent us home saying that according to the CT scan, it was a gallstone and to follow up with primary care doctor. The next day, the primary care doctor said that gallstones can't be diagnosed from a CT scan and that according to the bloodwork that the UCI health ER did, her liver enzymes aren't elevated which would usually be the case with gallstones. So the primary care doctor said that based on the tests this ER did that it's either Ovarian torsion or ovarian cyst ruptured, both could be life threatening if not urgently treated so she sent us in an ambulance to another ER. The other ER did the same tests as this ER and said there are no gallstones and that it's Ovarian torsion AND an 18 cm ovarian cyst that ruptured. She had emergency surgery and now is okay. If we solely took the advice of ICI Health ER, she could have died. AVOID THIS HOSPITAL. They are rude and dismissive. read more

This hospital is a rip off. I took my wife there for a flu like symptoms and we ended up with $12,000 bill. Mostly covered by the insurance but we had to pay about $1,000 for deductibles. Lab services $6,000 (between flu swap, blood works, covid test). Emergency room visit $5,000. No one can explain what is this $5,000 for. Not to mention the 7 hours wait for a flu. It used to be a lot better before UCI health took over. read more
