This might be the food cart with the most aura I've ever seen. Rick and James have been operating on this street corner by the Chase Building since 1999 and provide not just excellent service, but also an astonishing variety of meats. I was just expecting the regular hot dogs ($4) and Polishes ($7.75), but then they show me around to the VIP section of the cart where they had Hungarian sausages, Cajun sausages, Linguisas (a Portuguese sausage I'd never even heard of that apparently goes back to Roman times), and many others. They also provide drinks and chips, and even as I was standing there they had a small crowd of return customers and loyal patrons. I decided on the Linguisa with some brown mustard, ketchup, and onions, wrapped up to go. $7.75--a little more expensive than other hot dog vendors in the city, but when I got back to the office I wish I had ordered 2. FIVE BILLION STARS!!! Hands down THE BEST hot dogs we've ever had. The meat is juicy and delicious, each sausage with its own unique flavor. We each ordered 2 (even the kids) and wish we'd still had room for more. Visited a friend in Milwaukee and this hot dog stand was one of the "must see" locations, second only to the art museum (or possibly the other way around?). It was worth the hype! No bland boiled-water dogs here, I got a greasy savory bite of grilled sausage with a nice snappy casing every time. The guys who run the cart are hilariously personable also. Downtown's most popular summer lunch is Real Doggs, aka Hot Dog Dude Outside Chase Building . You can find this cart open for business on the corner of Water & Wisconsin from April well into the cold autumn months. At 11:30 daily the nearby office towers explode with hungry mobs that flock to this cart, rain or shine. Most carts have narrow options, but these guys have a shocking array of stuff on that cart. You can expect classic "dirty water dogs" from the boiler tray as well as a coal grill loaded with Italians, brats, Polish, chorizo, and more. I *highly* recommend their Portuguese linguica, which is slightly sweet and heavy on the garlic and not often found at other eateries. Real Doggs is famous for both great dogs and also for intense customer service. You won't be permitted to just say "hot dog" and walk away. You'll be grilled with a checklist of specific amenities and even your preferred wrapping method. This will then be relayed from the order guy to the cooking guy in food-cart-speak. It's totally unnecessary but part of the charm. Due to their attention to detail, you'll somehow feel like that $4 sausage was totally worth it. read more

I first came here years ago, and now that I'm working downtown again, I find myself coming here multiple times per week. The concept is pretty simple, it's just sausages, chips, and drinks. Why is this place so great then? Well there's just nothing wrong with it.
