At first I wasn't very happy with the color eyeshadow because it was too mauve(ish) and seemed a little too mature for what I was going for. She was super great about it and worked with me to find a color that was better suited. I've had my makeup done a lot and sometimes artists take it really personally when you say you don't like something. This was not the case at all. I also had photos done for something else and the photographer used Ryan as a makeup artist. Ryan was super friendly and easy to get along with. She also did an awesome job with my makeup. On the actual wedding day, Kathy was punctual and very patient with my bridesmaids. She had done my sister's makeup first and then redid it completely over when my sister got really emotional (happy tears!) and cried away all her makeup. I was so happy with my makeup. I used the airbrush which is amazing even though I was a little apprehensive about it at first. I didn't have the cakey look that so many brides have and the coloring was just amazing. I have never felt more beautiful than when Marquia tells me to hop off her chair and take a look in the mirror. Like today, when I literally couldn't stop gawking at how she took me from Zombie extra in a remake of Michael Jackson's Thriller to a pretty little PR princess! One thing I love about Marquia is her energy and enthusiasm. She is sweet and gracious, and really gets pumped about making her clients look their best. She is engaged and takes into consideration what you want, while transforming that look into something that works for your features. Her infectious smile keeps me calm and soothes me no matter how stressed I am about whatever event it is I'm going to. She is also extremely punctual, and always arrives early, ready to set up and then sit down with you first, before starting. She'll discuss everything from your skin type to how you react after makeup is applied - greasy quickly/break out/redness - and from there, she tailors her approach and what she uses to eliminate those issues and help you put your best face forward. If I could give her a sixth star, I would have, because she is absolutely the most talented makeup artist in the DMV. I've even proposed that she move in with me... I hope she says yes!

When the team arrived, Shadira and Lulu started loudly talking amongst themselves and were so loud, our bridal party could barely talk over the two stylists that arrived. It seemed like it was a social event for the stylists, instead of for our bridal party. They then even rudely and loudly commented about how the vibe was "boring" and we should play better music.... We found this very unprofessional. When we were showing photos of how we wanted the makeup look to be, we repeatedly asked Lulu for less makeup because we didn't want any heavy foundation or contouring. It seemed like the makeup artist had "one mode". I walked by at one point and politely asked if we'd be able to tone down the makeup and the artist shockingly said "I don't like it when people get up in my space." The final look was then overly heavy and explicitly not what we had asked for / provided photos of. Overall, waste of money - we would have been better off doing the makeup ourselves, especially since they didn't listen to what we wanted & changed the atmosphere so materially.

I conveyed my concerns to Meg, and she assured me that she would do something that wouldn't make me look like my little brother or George Washington (both great men, but neither I want to look like). Her and her stylist Jill expertly prepped 9 girls' hair and got us all ready in time for the wedding! Everyone's hair looked seriously fantastic, and thankfully I didn't look farther from a colonial. I ended up going with a boho braided updo that was perfectly textured, but didn't look messy. The best part is my updo lasted over 12 hours, from 10:00am until 3:00am, and somehow withstood my ridiculous dance moves! Besides her awesome hair skills, Meg was so much fun to be around, and even gave us great skin care tips along the way. I can't recommend her enough, and will absolutely use Meg for future events!
