Over the years, I have had several different experiences and several different styles by Eulaysha and each time she has come through. In general: This is such a great salon, with professional service from both stylists. These girls are super patient, skilled, know how to listen to their clients and most importantly, they deliver. Regarding my personal experience: I'll follow my favorite stylist and colorist wherever she goes. Lay knows how to give her clients exactly what they want, while always prioritizing the health of your hair. She took me from my faded color to this light vibrant blonde, in one visit! I was stunned by my results and have gotten so many compliments. I can not recommend her enough. I was ready to cut my hair, but she brought me back to life and I'm in love all over again! I am extremely happy with my experience at the Beauty Lab and Lay. I found them through Groupon and easily booked an appointment online. They book pretty quickly on the weekends, which tells you something. I was running late for my appointment because my uber dropped me off at a wrong location. Lay was very understanding and did not rush my appointment when it ran over into the next appointment. I had cut a lot of hair! She proceeded to style it perfectly for my dinner/date. I am actually very surprised with how my appointment went, even though Lay knew I had a Groupon. Most places usually do a shoddy job or even give an attitude when they find out you have one. Warning for those looking to purchase the Groupon voucher for highlights. I bought the one for haircut and highlights. They did not specify anywhere on the Groupon site that it was partial. I only found out that it was for partial highlights (full highlights was $50 extra) once I called the salon to schedule the appointment AFTER I bought the voucher. WOW, I had bad experience here yesterday. I rarely leave negative reviews but feel it's necessary to spare someone else. I came in for a haircut appt with Lay (including blowout and style). Yelp had initially showed a bunch of glowing reviews for her (which were recently taken down apparently - fake?). I did purchase a Groupon, so maybe that's why I recieved poor service. Normally I'd never use Groupon for hair services, but her reviews were so good, and location convienant for me, so thought I'd give it a shot. I apologize in advance for the length of this review! From the beginning, there was a notable disinterested vibe going on, despite my attempts of be friendly. During our quick consult, I asked that my layers be shortened a bit, (my hair is fine) and I was hoping for more volume and body. I was actually having a decent hair day, body & volume, big waves at the ends. I thought if I took off a little length, I could bump it up a bit more. Lay told me my hair is long, and the layers weren't going to help with the body and volume, and that would be achieved with styling. Ok, I agree styling definitely gives you most body and volume, but IMO cut impacts it too (didn't verbalize this, just sayin). It was a bit awkward during the cut, zero pleasantries, or questions about my hair past initial min consult. Straight from haircut into blowout without any products used, no root booster, heat protection, nada. Still no communication. When Lay started blow drying my hair I realized she hadn't asked how I wanted it styled, so I reminded her I'd like as much volume and body as possible, shared my home routine that when I blowout I pinup sections for a few minutes to cool, to give some volume and body. I said if she has another technique to achieve body/volume in fine hair I'd be happy to learn it. She didn't acknowledge me. Kept blowing it out stick straight, flat to my head. The blow-dry is complete, but honestly I didn't realize she was done, because she didn't take even a second to attempt and style it. Just kind of walked away. This blowout was SAD looking, flat like a helmet. I asked if she could try to do something to give me some of the body and volume I had when I'd walked in, however she dismissively said, "you'll have to go home and put rollers in your hair if you want body and volume". Seriously?! Didn't offer to try and put some waves in, nothing. Oh, did ask if I wanted hairspray. For what, idk. We both knew my hair looked bad, but she didn't care. She promptly moved on to her next client. This was such a weird experience, I don't recall having a haircut where the stylist doesn't at least TRY to make you look good before you walk out. Bizarre. It was a real bummer to have to put my hair in ponytail after the salon. You never think you're going to walk out of a salon with your hair looking worse than when you came in. I do NOT recommend. read more

My review is way overdue. This is a great boutique salon and the two hairstylists Michelle and Lay are amazing and have a great synergy. I had an awesome haircut, color and highlights with Michelle. She did more than she had too just because she is a perfectionist. Did I mention that I was a Groupon customer, so yes they do treat you the same way! I have been looking for a stylist for a LONG time. Yesterday was my first time seeing Lay, and she is AWESOME. She highlighted my hair exactly as I wanted, and gave me a super-cute bob. She listened to me and gave me what I wanted. It was the first time in years that I didn't feel I had to go home and re-style my hair when the stylist was done with the cut and blow dry. I had a haircut done by Michelle, and it was hands down the best cut I've had in years. I explained what I wanted, and she gave me exactly what I asked for. I have really bushy/thick type hair that is very hard to manage, and I've had many stylists give me a cut that works horribly with my hair texture, but Michelle gave me the cut I wanted while making sure that i could manage it with my texture. I could tell that Michelle has a lot of experience. She's also very sweet and down to earth. I do not live near Bethesda but the trip was very much worth it. I 100% plan on returning to the beauty laboratory for Michelle. read more

Usually when I get a cut, I look in the mirror and think a version of "It will look better when I get home and do it." Not with Michelle. I waited until I'd gone for a second cut and highlights before writing a review to make sure I didn't just get lucky. I didn't. Both were near perfect. Michelle listens, suggests, uses gentle products, and re-cut and dried a particularly troublesome, flyaway section of my hair that I didn't warn her about. She didn't re-highlight any strands--the enemy of healthy hair and creator of brittle ends. She's happy in her work, an underrated characteristic in all personal services, as happy as I was that it all turned out so well. I balk at the crazy prices salons charge these days which works out to $350 an hour if you're lucky. Not only is the Beauty Lab reasonable, it's in a great neighborhood with easy parking--in the Tiffany's building, next to Saks, across from Bloomingdale's and Whole Foods. Now that I've discovered Michelle, I feel like one piece of my life is settled. read more

She's professional, friendly and an expert in her craft. I postponed moving from the DC area because I knew I wouldn't be able to find a hairstylist as good as Lay.
