It's quite a bargain when you get ones with cheese mousse or real fruit. It's delicious drinking the tea mixed with the mousse... Or you can enjoy the mousse on top seperately. Either way, the drink taste like a delicious liquid cheesecake. The brown sugar Bobo milk tea is one of my favorite now. It's my go-to when competitive tea shops offer monthly specials that's not "my cup of tea".

So Ottawa was a bit late in joining the cheese mousse tea trend. Sip Tea is the first place to sell it in Ottawa and it currently is the only place in Ottawa. They recently opened in either January or February 2019, so the place is brand spanking new. I will be the first to admit that "cheese mousse tea" sounded weird to me, but I like trying new foods and at the worst I'd be out $6-7 and at the best I would discover a new favourite drink. Well, it's not my new favourite drink, but I did enjoy it, and while $6 (almost $7 with tax) was a bit spendy for a smallish drink, in my opinion, I'm glad I tried it. I got the Chocolate Milk Tea with Cheese Mousse ($5.99), which was one of the least expensive drinks. You get to choose your sweetness and ice levels. I got "less sugar" (which is less than "half sugar" but more than "no sugar" - so probably about 25-35% of what they would normally use) and regular ice. I felt that the sweetness was perfect for me. I would definitely find full-strength sweetness too sweet. And there was very minimal ice in my drink, yet it was cold, so this too was perfect for me. Like I mentioned earlier, the drink tasted like a salted caramel cheesecake. The cheese mousse on top was slightly salty but also sweet. It was more like a frothy foam. There was also something like a vanilla pudding swirled into the drink. I honestly didn't taste much tea flavour. The drink itself was like a chocolate milk. The drink was rich and decadent. Service was good and pretty quick. The place is cute with minimalist decor. It seats 9 people, so it's not that big. I would return to try other drinks. They have a loyalty card. You get a free drink after the purchase of 10 drinks. The store is in a little strip mall. Same strip mall was The Barley Mow, Willy's Pizza, and Bell. There is free parking.

About 6 months after, Chatime popped back up, but at a smaller space at 695 Somerset St West (where Tea Owners, which was also a bubble tea shop, used to be). Don't know the backstory, but happy that there isn't a reduction in numbers of bubble tea shops in Chinatown, lol. Just note that any pictures and reviews before mid-April 2023 are from the old location. I've been to the new location. Drinks are still good. The space is just smaller.

The drink itself had a nice potent coconut flavour, but the tea flavour was very subtle. It was smooth and not gritty, and was rich and creamy. The tapioca pearls were soft and chewy, how I like them, but they could have been more generous with the amount as I finished the pearls way before I finished my drink, so was just drinking milk tea with no toppings for most of my drink. Overall 3.5 stars, but I am being generous and rounding up. Hopefully next time they will follow my example of generosity and give me more tapioca, lol. Service was friendly and efficient. The young female working the cash could barely speak English and literally all we were ordering was a BBT and three ice creams. I asked for one scoop of chocolate with whip cream. Kids had two scoops each, one strawberry, one chocolate. You would think they would serve the ice cream first, then make the BBT. We sat and waited for probably ten minutes before anything showed up and everything was wrong. My one scoop of chocolate came with sprinkles and the sprinkles were hard like rocks. The scoop of ice cream was tiny, like an inch and a half in diameter and tasted like store bought ice cream. The two kids only got one bowl with two scoops, one chocolate and the other strawberry. The BBT came out fine. We had to get her to make another bowl of ice cream for the second child. We were also the only customers in there. The cost came out to over $25 and I think we were charged twice for one of the two scoops. Basically five scoops of ice cream and an $8 BBT. I had been here before the pandemic and it was good, but something changed and I think it was a language barrier. If you're going to have someone facing customers, at least make sure they can understand their own menu! After that debacle, I will never go there again!

Driving over to this location made me cut through a part of Ottawa that I used to spend a lot of time walking around. I used to stay at a hotel at 140 Slater Street and it's still a hotel! I reckon that walking from there to this CoCo would take ten minutes. I parked on Bank Street. It was free parking by the time that I got there after 6 pm, so I was thrilled. If you're there during the daytime, you'll have to pay, which is the only downside to visiting this location. This CoCo is on the northwest corner of Bank Street and Somerset Street West. It looks like a tiny store, but it isn't. It's deep when you walk in. I had the nicest woman help me out. I asked if the Canada Day drink was still available. It was. I got it with less ice. The sugar level was fixed. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. It didn't take long for my drink to be ready. I thanked her and happily headed back to my car. The Canada Day drink is the Three Guys Milk Tea, but two other guys in the form of toppings decided to join in on the fun. I will say that you you love toppings in your bubble tea, this one is for you. One word: hefty! My large cup was a third full of toppings. I thoroughly enjoyed this bubble tea on my birthday. You didn't know what toppings you were going to suck up and enjoy with each sip. The milk tea was a perfect balance of strong tea with the perfect milky consistency that you'd expect from CoCo. The fixed sugar wasn't horrible. I'm guessing that it was at 25%, which I was fine with for someone who generally cuts out the sugar. Frankly, I was stuffed eating dinner and having this Canada Day drink with a built-in meal. I loved it all! I liked visiting this store. I hope to do it again when I'm back. Both times I've gotten them here, they just tasted like milk. I had to tell my friend afterwards to erase this first boba experience from their head (I'll bring them somewhere else). Definitely don't get the brown sugar boba drinks here :(
