More recently, scheduling challenges and less helpful communication have added to our frustration. For example, my son, home from college, was told he has cavities, but the earliest appointment offered was after his return to school. I wasn't asking for special treatment but hoped for professional advice on how to proceed. My 14-year-old daughter also had a painful cleaning with a new hygienist and now feels reluctant to return. While we appreciate Dr. Elia's excellent care, the overall experience no longer reflects the high standard we once knew. My original dentist was in Oak Brook and they got taken over by Dr. Amiran and Dr Dr. Asadi. They recently moved over the Cottage Hill Dental and here we are. My normal cleaning appointment was long over due and they actually called to remind me- really appreciate that! The dental office was very clean and upon arrival I noticed the air purifier and the associate at the front desk had everyone coming in use hand sanitizer. Also everyone was wearing masks properly. All of these things really make you feel extra safe when coming in for a dental appointment. Nancy was my Dental Hygienist and she is the best! I feel like I have known Nancy for years. She is so welcoming and did a great job explaining the step by step process of what she was doing. The dental nerves melted away and honestly she had me laughing the entire time. I hope I get Nancy for every single future appointment!! Dr. Amiran checked my teeth officially and she was just as welcoming. Like, Nancy, she explained what she noticed and everything simply for me. I am contemplating Invisalign for my bottom teeth so I made another appointment actually for today! My former dentist would not see me in a timely fashion despite my serious plight. Although a new patient, Scharfenberg Dental worked me in the day after I called. I have been an extremely satisfied, loyal patient ever since. Regular check-ups and cleanings have been so easy, fast, and convenient. I've only had a few more involved procedures but the care I have received has been well above average. The entire staff at Scharfenberg Dental is friendly, welcoming, professional, and fun. I had put off going for years...I had problem teeth that I'd tried saving with a previous dentist but I got frustrated and stopped going. That was in the mid-, late-90s. Yeah...I waited a looooooong time. So long, in fact, it was time to throw in the towel and have them removed. Enough about my lazy history...on with the awesomeness that is Scharfenberg Dental!!! They were able to get see me quickly. Dr. Jerry listened to my story in which I took full responsibility for my predicament -this wonderful man basically said I was there now and let's take care of the problem. No judgment, just a patient man with a plan. Took care of an immediate problem right away, then scheduled the extractions shortly thereafter. The day of the surgery, I was, of course, freaking out. He had given me a pill to take a couple of hours prior to coming in. Then, it was nitrous & Novocaine. They offered headphones with Pandora, there are bird feeders strung in the trees outside...seriously, the people in this office are concerned with your comfort and well-being on every level. Everything went well...I think I remember about 30 seconds total of the hours-long procedure and honestly? I have ZERO memories of pain or even discomfort. Nothing. Dr. Jerry and the dental tech spoke in calm, soothing voices -I never freaked once. Their caring follow-up calls later that day and after truly made me feel well cared-for. During my treatment, I was handed off to Dr. Carly, who then worked with me to get full dentures. She has been an absolute delight, always cheerful, also 100% non-judgmental about my reason for being there...believe me, that's meant a lot. For the first time in over 20 years, I can now smile. Really smile. When she first put in the plates, I cried. These wonderful people gave me back my smile. Dr. Carly said something funny and as I laughed, my hand immediately covered my mouth, as I've done since the 90s. She held my hand and said, "You don't have to do that anymore." Monumental. It's said that the receptionist is the face of an office. Sharon is the sweetest, most down-home lady you'll ever meet. From her greetings to her conversations to her scheduling you to the best convenience of all, you won't find a nicer, more competent lady anywhere. This already fantastic business is fortunate to have her. Erica & Carol, the dental techs, are not only awesome at their jobs, they are super-awesome girls. They always spoke to me like a friend, not just a patient. They helped keep me calm and feel welcome, all while performing their duties well. To sum it up, run...don't walk...to this office.
