My husband and I have been attending Reason Fitness gym since January 2024. Trainer Coach Drew helps us be more mobile, flexible , stronger and healthier. We go twice a week and work real hard . There are times when we feel exhausted afterwards. Drew challenges us and has helped us built a better foundation for our health. Every week we are getting stronger and stronger. It's been 7 years since my last review and I'm still a member at this gym community and I'd love to share how it's grown over these years. The first notable achievement is that this gym survived the pandemic. That is huge and the way the team and coaches pivoted to support the members during the pandemic was nothing short of incredible passion and hard work for the health and wellbeing of the community. Since then, they have continued to adapt and cater their services and memberships to best meet the needs of the community at hand and introduced personal training. After years of struggling to find my consistency, I decided to try personal training this year and I've been very thankful to have Coach Kara guide me for most of this year so far! This is an update about the personal training at Reason. I desperately needed to get back on the health wagon as I fell off during the pandemic so January 2021 came and I messaged Eric for help. He paired me up with Drew H. who I worked with previously for my on ramp back to CrossFit. I have had five personal trainers through a decade. Drew is one of best out of the 5 even though we have been only training together for 3 months. My first PT changed my life and was instrumental in getting me to shred 40 lbs through a strict paleo diet for 6 months. Unfortunately, it wasn't a sustainable lifestyle for the long term. I've been jumping on and off the paleo diet since. Drew draws a personalized road map for sustainable success and provides a lot of needed advice, tough love, encouragement, and empathy. Other trainers went through the motions of exercise and I didn't know what I was looking for in a trainer then. I now know I don't need someone to walk me through an hour of activity. I need someone who provides sound nutritional knowledge and solid support presence. Since January, I've lost 6 lbs which doesn't sound very much (Drew will probably disagree with me) but I fit my old clothes better. I also I feel better these days and more confident in keeping up with the way of eating than before. Drew never shamed me for having ice cream with my child or having a latte as a morning treat once in a while because he maintains a realistic view of life. When Covid Season hit, I was super anxious, and worried that this gym would shut down, and I would have no means of working out. To my surprise, not only did this gym manage to figure out a way to remain "open" (while meeting government guidelines), I have been getting healthier than BEFORE Covid hit! So just for some background information, I signed-up for CFR's program where an assigned coach will meet up regularly (we did this via Zoom), and help create a custom program for the individual. Because of Covid, I was able to remain more diligent in working out from home, and cook more. The coaches gave gentle accountability towards me, and I think this really helped me thrive during this time. (Just as a side comment, I have some signs of ADHD, which often causes an individual to easily lose motivation. The system that the coaches have implemented, really helped me stay on-track, and become healthier. If you have ADHD and may have tons of anxiety towards working out; this gym would be a great fit for you.) read more

If I could give this CrossFit gym more than 5 stars, I would. I reached out to the owner, Eric back in May 2021 for help to get back on my feet when it came down to my physical health and wellness and the experience I've had from joining thus far has been nothing short of amazing. During the height of the pandemic, I had let go of many healthy habits that kept me consistent in my day to day and found myself in a really difficult place that I desperately wanted to get out of for the sake of my health. Trust me when I say that it was extremely challenging for me to reach out in the first place, but having the support and accountability from all of the coaches, Miguel, Drew, Luke, Edward, Beth, and Tim helped me become a better person overall, not just in my physical fitness, but in every aspect of my life. I began working with Drew on my nutrition to help improve my relationship with food and saw great results month to month while living a lifestyle that worked for me. The personalized nutrition plan helped me better understand portion sizes that work for me without compromising foods that I loved. (Coming from an Asian background, this was VERY important to me) This sustainable approach is exactly what I needed because I wanted a long-term approach to health and fitness, not a get fit quick type of fix. This has been my favorite gym among several I've worked at or was a member too. The community and staff are always great and pushing me. If a coach or member see I'm going light they'll call me out to go heavier and I absolutely love that! It's how I've been able to increase in strength and endurance. I do have to mention that I did not fully read what the deal was and only saw "private sessions." I thought this would be good for me since it might actually force me to go to class. Life happened, but that's another story! I'm glad I took the fundamentals class. They gave me great tips on form and even on stretching. The trainers I had for the classes were Tim and Bethany. Love Reason Fitness - I started my fitness journey toward the end of 2020 after realizing that I wanted a healthy outlet for a lot of the stress built up over the pandemic. I legit came in with the intention to just lose some weight and maybe be able to run without dying. What I found was way more than that. In addition to an incredible community, I found people who regularly challenge themselves and their mindset to be the best versions of themselves. Sure, we all complain when we see movements we don't like, but at the end of the day, we all will do the workouts! The coaches are knowledgable and are there to help you as much as you'd like from comprehensive nutrition planning to normal class coaching. I will be completely honest though. If you start CrossFit, you might end up with a slight gear addiction. You start with a pair of shoes, but then you end up with grips, a jump rope, a weightlifting belt, another 17 pairs of shoes; the list really goes on and on. A lot has personally happened for me in 5 years; love, loss, really good times, some really low times, and for years during that time, a worldwide pandemic. I have been with Crossfit Reason since it's inception in 2013. Over the years, I have watched this gym transform, adapt, and overcome whatever challenges that came their way in order to be the premier fitness establishment in the SGV. Since the COVID-19 lockdowns they have done everything in their power to provide us with coaching and support to maintain our health and fitness. This includes Zoom classes, nutrition challenges, individualized programming, etc. Once they were reopened, they have implemented exacting safety and sanitation protocols such as mounting a handsfree thermometer, thorough spraying and sanitation between classes, socially distanced workout stations and equipment, outdoor workout arrangements, and of course mandatory mask wearing. I have a gym membership, but my friend brought me in on "bring a friend day." It's my first time trying cross fit, so my friend recommended that I give the class a try. You have to fill out an online form before trying out which can be conveniently and quickly done on your phone. When I first came in, everyone was really friendly and inviting. The coaches and members know each other very well, so it's definitely a supportive vibe. There's a break room just to the side where you can put your stuff away. The entire facility was clean with plenty of space. For the actual class itself, it is a small class so the coaches can give you lots of attention. We warmed up appropriately and our coach, Drew, taught us how to do some of the exercises before we actually did the workout. It was my first time doing a power clean and power jerk (that day's class theme had some Olympic weight lifting moves), but Drew helped me correct my form and gave thorough advice on how to perform the exercises effectively and safely. As for the actual workout it was intense. I needed to catch my breath for a second! This place is for anyone that's curious about cross fit and make this a part of their lifestyle. Crossfit First Timer My friends having been raving about this place for months and sharing their success with me so I decided that it was finally time to check this place out. I really appreciated the fact that the class size was small and intimate. Everyone was welcoming and helpful. It definitely made my first time a lot less intimidating. Luke was the coach of the morning and did a really great job at demoing the various exercises we had to do. Since I have wrist problems, he also provided me with modification which I definitely appreciated because I did not want to exacerbate the problem. They opened on July 1st so the box and the equipment are pretty new. The community here is great! A lot of friendly people who are all striving for the same thing -- getting stronger. What's best about this place is that everything is done electronically. You download the "WOD together" app and you sign up for your classes on the app or the website. You also know the WODs beforehand and you can easily jot down your results directly on there. Class times are a bit limited at the moment, but I'm sure it will grow as the box gets bigger. Some classes can be as small as 2 people or as 'large' as 10 per class. Thus, you're being more carefully watched. There's also a private bathroom available. In addition, Crossfit reason also has some water bottles, protein powder, T-shirts, and other neato stuff you can buy! Trying Crossfit out for the first time? Contact Eric (the owner) and he will schedule an intro course for you. This will give you a good idea of how this high intensity workout is all about. If you're new to crossfit, this place also offers an On-Ramp course which teaches you the fundamentals of common crossfit movements. If you want the true Crossfit experience, go to this gym. The trainers here know their stuff, and are passionate about fitness. Classes are fun and always work on different things. When I first started Crossfit, I wasn't able to execute a proper squat, which meant I pretty much couldn't do any weightlifting properly. My weight would always be on my toes, and I wasn't able to keep my knees out. The trainers worked with me to correct my form, and I can proudly say that I now do a proper squat & am in the best shape of my life! Great gym 10 out of 10 would recommend. Before joining this gym, I did not have any experience with CrossFit, but the coaches here were very knowledgeable, patient, and nice. Before every work out, they would throughly breakdown how to and how not to do every movement. My favorite thing about this gym is the community and how welcoming everyone is. They understand that everyone starts at different level, so they provide different alternatives to movements that fit your fitness capabilities, so that you can still get the stimulus of the work out. If you are hesitant about joining because you think you can't do a pull up or etc, you should give it a try because I couldn't before joining as well. I have been here for about a year and a half, and I have loss about 20 lbs since. CrossFit isn't some magical answer to getting more fit, you will definitely have to show up and put in the work yourself. They will give you all the tools you need to succeed, and it will be up to you how you want to use it. Invited by a friend to workout (oh no, the day has come), I decided to drag myself out at night to check this place out... I was welcomed warmly by Eric and the staff, and though I was apprehensive about being at a gym (it's been years since I've seriously exercised), I immediately felt more at home. Having tried different gyms/sports from boxing to commercial (think LA fitness), to badminton clubs and dance studios, my first impression of this hub really was that it's like a community- like what other reviewers say. My class size was about 10ish people and we spaciously took up about the center of the gym. Though it's nothing like a commercial gym, there's plenty of room, even for others to workout on their own on the side. The gym has parking in back if you can't find street parking up front, and the facility inside is clean and well maintained. I'm not sure what class I took, but it was nice having the trainer offer to show me proper form and the workout even before I asked. Having done a little bit of weights and circuit training the past, I could tell that the trainers are confident and knowledgable just from talking to them. Ben was helpful and encouraging, and even the rest of the class pushed me- in a good way! I didn't feel bad that I didn't reach the numbers (maybe I should?) but I was definitely challenged and reminded to watch my form! Even though I could barely walk and feel my arms afterwards, I would definitely consider Crossfit Reason if I were to be part of a gym. Great CrossFit box with excellent programming for anybody who is looking to get into shape. Not everyone starts at the same place, and that's okay at CF Reason they will adapt the workouts to each athlete, making sure that everyone is able to perform the exercises correctly and safely. The coaches here are friendly and easy to talk to, they will take the time to answer any questions one might have. They are very knowledgeable in the movements and mobility techniques to better help each athlete reach their potential. Can't say enough good things about these guys and gals. The community here is very supportive, and friendly. If you visit from another box you won't feel like you're an outsider, you will feel like you've been a member all along it's that great of a community. Need a Reason to Crossfit? Check out Crossfit Reason! Okay lame joke! However, there is nothing lame about Crossfit Reason. I came here for a drop-in and they were very accommodating. With a click of a few buttons and data entry I was golden. Coach Eric was the COD "Coach of the Day"; I seriously have to quit with the lame jokes. Anyways, Eric was a humbling soft spoken person, but was very upbeat to learn about you as a person and what your goals are. Eric was very knowledgeable about the movements and the workout in general. He taught us about efficiency about the rowing, but also how much output your own body can take; not everyone was the same obviously. As the WOD started, Coach Eric kept a close eye on us to ensure we were properly completing the movements as prescribed. In the end, Crossfit Reason had a good layout of for a box and also the equipment was pretty new. However, like most Crossfit gyms; it's the community of people that makes Crossfit enjoyable. Coach Eric and many patrons of the gym were uber friendly and helped with coaching and also motivating you to do better. I've been dropping in for months and I cannot say enough amazing things about this CrossFit gym. The coaches are so knowledgeable, patient, genuine, and the community is the best part about this gym. Eric, the owner is a very humble and funny guy. He loves to crack a joke and helps make the experiences enjoyable for members here. Attn: Pregnant/Postpartum Moms! I'm hijacking my husband's account and writing a review from the point of view of a mom of 2 boys (3 years old and a 6 month old). I didn't start membership here until I was 6 months postpartum with my first baby. After my 1st, I couldn't do the same workouts as I did before because of postpartum complications and my husband, a member for many years, suggested Reason to help me. I reluctantly signed up. I always felt that Crossfit seemed really intense and full of machismo bros but I was delightfully wrong. The coaches are wonderful caring people and incredibly accommodating. I never felt judged that I couldn't lift a certain weight or do a certain movement. If I couldn't do something, they would modify it so I would have the same stimulus as the other members. There is always this underlying message from the coaches that you may not be able to do this now, but you will soon. Let's make that a goal we work towards. I would also bring my baby (1.5 years old at the time). At first, he was awful and would always cry when it was time for the WODs (workout of the day) because I had to strap him into his stroller. It was difficult/embarrassing but sometimes the coaches or a member waiting for the next class would push my stroller around just so he would settle down and I could finish. I never asked. These amazing people just volunteered. More importantly, I never got any " you are a terrible mother" vibes/side eye from anyone. Eventually my little boy understood the routine and no longer cried but I am SO SO grateful everyone was empathetic enough to wait for him to learn. I don't know if I can find that kind of support at another gym. Now, he's great and would even help get weight clips for members. During my second pregnancy, I worked out at the gym until month 8. By then, my baby was hanging way too low and my doctor said I couldn't work out anymore because she didn't want me to go into early labor. Most of the exercises were modified and I felt safe. I've witnessed another member work out on the day of her due date because she didn't have the same issues I did. But..what about Covid? -Outdoor classes -Classes are capped -Everyone wears masks when they move around to get equipment -Temperature checks -Equipment is disinfected after every class -Zoom classes are available Most importantly: All members are RESPECTFUL. No one will get too close. I haven't been close enough to see someone's sweat droplets. I know they are sweaty because their skin looks shiny. No one will randomly touch things and not disinfect it. Coaches are also very diligent about maintaining "traffic" flow and designating spots/equipment to members. read more

I've been powerlifting for the past 4 years and playing basketball and vball on and off for the past 6 years or so, and the first time I came here for a workout, I was floored because the workout was just so tough. The coaches here are knowledgeable, professional, and passionate about your progress. The community here is unbeatable, as everyone comes into this gym to support each other's fitness journeys. If you're an active/atheltic person looking for your next challenge, this gym is definitely for you. They accept people of all athletic abilities and cater the workouts to your skillset. It's been just over a year since I first started CF here and I figured i'd write an update for the new location. I moved from the SGV to DTLA about a month ago, but I still make the drive out to Arcadia to work out 4-5 times a week. You can say that the people at this CF box is the "Reason" (see what I did there? hahaha...). I started at CF Reason after not working out for over 10 years and a borderline diabetic, significantly overweight (38% body fat) guy with very low stamina. At first I was apprehensive about working out, and frankly didn't enjoy it at all. I feared going to classes. Eventually, that fear turned into a desire to get fit and become a stronger person both physically and mentally. I'm now no longer an at-risk diabetic and have gone from an XL to an L shirt size and from a 42 to an actual 38 pant size. The new location is much larger and can accommodate more athletes than the previous one. One big improvement is that there's now a separate, secure room (WITH AIR CONDITIONING!!!!!) for rolling out and storing your belongings, not to mention there's a now two bathrooms with one that has a shower! What hasn't changed is that the coaching is still fantastic and the community Coach Eric has built remains extremely welcoming and tight knit. You'll always be encouraged to push yourself further, but everyone understands that we all have to start somewhere, and someone will always be there to make sure you feel safe and comfortable while still giving it your all. I could easily go to another box closer to where I live now, but the community here at Crossfit Reason is why I've stayed, and will continue to be my home CF box for many years to come. read more

Wanted to give an updated review after a couple of months progress on CrossFit Reason. I've been trying to go 4-5 times a week to do their WOD's and seen a 10lb weight loss. My cardio has gotten better, most notably my mile time went from 8:30 to 6:05! Also learning a lot about what you're capable of doing. Also what I noticed is that no matter how long you've been attending Reason, you will always get consistent coaching, different & challenging workouts, and be completely part of their family community. It's awesome! It's only 1-2 months and I feel like I know almost everyone already! Have even brought a couple of friends in during Bring a Friend day and they loved it as well. Tried to do my own WOD workout by myself at my previous global gym the other day, but it's so different doing it by yourself. Getting that push from the coaches and others makes it a really unique and fun experience. read more

I have been a member summer of 2016. Besides the availability of classes throughout the day for people with different schedules, this is a great place where the staff and members will treat you with the utmost respect. I feel that this is a very strong community where everyone is pushing each other to work harder and reach their goals in a safe and controlled environment. Not everyone has to followed the full movements. There are scaled options for those that are (for example) recovering from injuries or are unable to perform the moves because of some other issue. Even then, the coaches will demonstrate how to perform those moves safely so a member doesn't feel left out and can have the happy feeling of knowing that work and progress is being made. All it takes is to start and to be consistent. That will allow overall improvement and growth for anyone read more
