Their website is straight forward - you pay per person and some rooms range up to 20 players!! The room we did was Glitch and it was a storyline based on a microchip company haha. We had an amazing time at this escape room! This is one of the largest escape room in San Francisco. With multiple rooms, they can accomodate kids birthday parties or corporate teambuilding events for groups of 20, and up to 60 people at the same time. We went twice and tried the games called Glitch and Sonar. The use of cutting-edge technology, including VR and 3D printers, added a whole new dimension to the experience. Something we had never seen before. We loved going through the interactive elements to solve puzzles in small groups and then all together for the final challenges. We came here for a work bonding event, and my group did the Glitch room. It felt like there were a lot of little puzzles, each not too hard, but you needed people to work in parallel with only 2-3 people per puzzle. It was kind of difficult to start, but once we understood what we were supposed to do for each puzzle, it was easy to repeat for the other ones. It was cool seeing some puzzles being more interactive, such as one needing a person to complete something in VR. It was interesting having a game master in the room with us, giving us little hints while we were doing it. The staff was also really nice. They let us test out a new puzzle and ask a bunch of questions while we were waiting for our other group to finish. Overall, I think this is a decent place for a beginner large group, but not the best for experienced players or those who want a challenge. read more

Reason runs on AWS, so if there are problems, that's the source. It feels like a passion project by the owners, who are extremely invested in it. Mike led us through the escape room and helped us out when requested. There are three different escape rooms for different party sizes. We came here for Glitch and were able to spend a lot of time together as 12 people. A big thing you learn is communication is key, otherwise you spend time repeating challenges that have already been solved. At the end, we started guessing to finish the last two problems and discovered two bugs that Mike gladly heard and made note to fix, so again, you can tell they're passionate. read more

We did the mars escape room and we didn't feel like it was very intuitive and we also weren't very enthralled by the story. We found ourselves pretty frustrated and stumped a lot of the times. Many of the puzzles were sort of similar, it felt like solving SAT problems. I would say mars would definitely not be beginner escape room friendly, luckily we managed to escape and most of our group is intermediate to advanced escape room players. The escape room was also one room, so I think that was also a bit surprising compared to most escape rooms we've been to like Om or Palace Escape Rooms. There was also a weird smell which I know some escape rooms try to implement smells, so I'm not sure if this was purposeful or not. We did enjoy the room design and tech related aspects and our game host was also really nice and helpful which were pluses, but overall between our group of four I think we collectively decided we probably wouldn't be trying out other games from here read more

Having been to multiple escape rooms in multiple states and this escape room feels that it captures the tech identity of San Francisco. Where there are a bunch of people who are all using the latest and greatest gadget to solve problems. We had a group of 18 people and I was scared that there wasn't puzzles to be solves but what I didn't realize was people all have their own fun. Some like sitting back and watching other peoples struggle while others don't mind the struggle to get to the end goal. Overall the group said they really enjoyed themselves and would want to do Sonar also! Everyone also got really excited that there were multiple rooms to explore. Liked that this place offered team building activities and escape rooms for larger groups. We tried Glitch which was one of their futuristic in-person escape rooms. We had a group of 20+ people, and while it was a bit chaotic at times, we had fun and ultimately were able to get out. We really appreciated the fact that they let us stay a bit later in the room in order for us to find out way out. For those of you used to traditional escape rooms, this one is a bit more unconventional to accommodate the larger groups so multiple puzzles are able to be worked on simultaneously and there are little bottlenecks. There is less of a story flow than smaller escape rooms, but that is to be expected. The host stayed with us in the room throughout the exercise and was there to help guide us through some of the challenging parts. read more

I had such a great time at Reason! We came here for a birthday activity with 6 people for the Reactor room, and it was so so cool. This was my first escape room but I'm convinced it's one of the best ones. I loved that it incorporated so much tech (VR, drones, typing stuff into a terminal, etc.), and it was a lot more immersive than I thought it would be! Everything connected so well together, and our host, Megan, was the sweetest. We barely escaped in time (tbh I think we went a few minutes over, haha), but for 6 people I think we did pretty well! A large team outing (16 ppl) and we tried the new game Glitch I was pleasantly surprised that this game worked for such a big team. The puzzles were challenging enough and there were so many of them that everyone could work on something concurrently. Also, it doesn't suffer from too many bottlenecks where you're waiting on another teammate to solve something so you can start working on something else. I've done a number of escape rooms around the Bay Area and this is my new favorite! There's a good amount of space and I was really impressed with the quality of the props and the level of interaction with the puzzles. Some structures were obviously designed and built by crafty people with a love for gadgets and puzzles and were just super cool to get to play with. I can't spoil anything so you'll just have to go check it out for yourself! ;) We had a group of 10 people and there were plenty of things for people to split into groups of 2 or 3 and work on different pieces. They also provided a whiteboard where we were all able to reconvene and share knowledge. Even their decoration game was on point, which made the whole thing feel more immersive and engaging. I highly recommend trying them out. It wasn't the hardest escape room I've done (if that's a quality you're looking for) but it was by far the most enjoyable and extra great for our group since we had a few first-timers (they also loved it!) read more

Came here for a team offsite and we all absolutely loved this place! For all escape room lovers, this one is way different than ones you may have experienced before. This is the most high tech escape room I have ever done. Without spoiling anything, you will encounter VR, AR, drones, and even 3D printing! We did the Reactor room and were given 80 minutes to get out. Mike, our host, was super helpful with his hints. We ultimately escaped with 3 minutes left! Even with 14 brains with problem solving backgrounds, this one was quite tough. Thanks again to Mike for being an awesome host. I'd definitely want to try their other escape room! read more

Hands down the best business I've ever dealt with! We are organizing two company virtual offsites for more than 20 people each. REASON, specifically Mike, helped with us all the way. I don't know how Mike did it, but he is always instantly available to answer emails and phone calls. I am pretty forgetful and the team member's schedule keeps changing, so I had to keep calling or emailing for repetitive questions or small changes, every time Mike picks up the phone immediately or replies the emails right away and helps with me with a breeze. It's definitely a great team- bonding experience as people split off in the room to try to figure out what clues lead to another part of the room. I've only done one other escape room with a bunch of 6th graders before and needless to say, we didn't escape and this is definitely a different one. It was a company event and we were all able to all participate. It became where we broke up into where you wanted to participate and worked on your own small projects because there were so many different parts. It's almost like we should do it again so we can actually do the other parts that other people worked on. And I do seem some value in it just because. This is a pretty fancy setup. It had a 3d printer, a 3D visual, a VR headset setup. And like I said there were so many puzzles. We escaped with 3 minutes to spare and the end it was pretty satisfying. Loved it. And if you check-in using yelp you get a free drink. Some of our players stayed behind to play with VR games so there's that too so come and enjoy. We hit upon the idea of an escape room for my son's 12th birthday party, and discovered that there are a large number of options in San Francisco, many of which have great reviews. After digging through them all, Reason floated to the top as the most interesting and appropriate (e.g. not scary/creepy). We could not be happier with the choice we made. Mike, who runs the place, was super-responsive, helpful and flexible. He did a great job corralling and focusing a bunch of excited 7th graders and they all had a great time solving puzzles together and playing with the cool tech in the Crash Site mission. In my son's words it was "TOTALLY AWESOME!!!" One of the other reviewers said that he'd done an escape room with a bunch of 6th graders and said "needless to say we didn't escape" but that was not the case here. In fact, the combination of the the youngsters' lateral thinking and tech-savviness with the adults in the room providing some structured thinking methodologies gave us a great result. We managed to escape in just under an hour, and nearly everyone was fully engaged the entire time. We had a total of 12 (9 kids, 3 adults) and that felt like the right size group, maybe ±2 people. I'd highly recommend Reason for any group of 10-14 (maybe 16?) adults or kids 6th grade and older. Mike said that the success rate of the mission is about 50%, so it's eminently doable if the team works well together, which is really the point, isn't it? read more

As a huge escape room fan (I've played about a dozen now), I'm always down to try the next iteration of my favorite live-action experience. An industry that started with a simply decorated room of lo-fi clues evolved into multi-room experiences with secret passages and electronic puzzles. With the new Reason Room, the bar has been raised further to incorporate the very latest in technology. When my super sleuth pals suggested we give the new hotness a try, I was excited to Escape the Reactor. Without giving anything away, Reason Reactor is a whole different experience to any room I've ever played. Contrary to games from Scrap or Palace, Reason's storyline is non-linear so puzzles can be solved out of order. After only one play, I can't decide whether this is a good or bad format but it's definitely different, allowing players to break into smaller teams and leverage their personal strengths to solve puzzles. With a 50% escape rate (our veteran team managed 58 minutes of a 70 minute limit...), the Reactor may lack some of the time consuming twists of other brands, but the technical exhibition is a testament to the continued innovation that will bring the art forward. I, for one, welcome our 3D printed, holographic, self-balancing, radio-controlled overlords. read more

I would definitely recommend this place for friends, family and/or coworkers looking for a team building experience, and do not let the street vibes before you enter deter you. I made a reservation in advance and came in with a medium sized group of coworkers. I won't go into details (because I don't want to ruin it), but we did the nuclear reactor escape room and it was really difficult/challenging in a good way. The staff at Reason are REALLY GOOD. I had a blast and for a very good Reason!! I have not tried many escape rooms in the past, but I feel like this concept is very unique compared to traditional escape rooms. The "Reactor" escape room has MANY technology elements tied in. I can't giveaway too much of what I experienced, but I can say it was really fun and creative how they tied 3d printing, VR, drone flying, robots, to solve puzzles. There were traditional escape room puzzles in the room too so there is a variety of enjoyment to be had. I also went in a large group for work and there was plenty of puzzle solving to go around and an opportunity to collaborate. Mike was an extraordinary puzzle master. He was patient with our large group and provided hints where needed. I would say for the price, it is more expensive than other escape rooms. BUT you do get lots of play time as well as incorporate futuristic technologies so it is very fair for the $50 mark. read more

'The Reactor' is a well designed escape room suitable for large groups. There are good amount of parallel puzzles for everyone to feel engaged without being overwhelmed. Love the fact that there weren't any real 'bottleneck' that hinder the overall process. Puzzles are relatively light in terms of difficulty. There aren't any intimidating hard logic or math puzzles. Game master is always there if you need any hints or help. For escape room novices or first timers, this is really a great room to start with. The use of technologies added quite a bit of fun to the game. This is my new favorite escape room in SF. read more
