You need to know you have to pay cash up front for any/all work. My. jaw is beyond painful - I had surgery on it in 1986 and there is no disk in my jaw. If I brush my teeth or take medication, my jaw is stuck open for a half hour. Doean't matter to this doctor if you can't pay cash up front. I have the BEST insurance - doctors are. usually thrilled to see me. I am now making plans to fly down to Los Angeles to get my jaw problem fixed. I called all of my insurance providers and they said I would be covered 100%. I pay a lot of money for my insurance - and I'm on social security thanks to a pituitary tumor that cannot be removed because of location. Now I am old and no longer working - and I am having horrible pain with my TMJ and they would barely talk to me long enough to say I can't see the doctor unless I pay cash up front. This is not a very healing attitude. I spent my life helping people who were less fortunate - it doesn't pay well - and now I come to this doctor who won't see me if I don't pay cash. I was referred by my dentist; I had to get all 4 wisdom teeth out...after hearing horror stories from friends & acquaintances, I was freaking nervous! I arrived a little bit early & filled out 2 pages of paperwork, then was taken into the operating room to watch a video about what exactly they were going to do, the risks, etc. Then I had to sign a waiver stating that I knew there were risks (legal thing). The nurse/hygienist not sure what you call those people, anyway, she was super nice. Next I was taken into another room to get an x ray of my whole mouth, kind of like a panoramic picture of my teeth...really cool! Next Dr. Rebeka Silva came in and explained the risks etc in case I had not understood them from the movie & she went over my x rays and told me how they were going to take the teeth out. Luckily, the two top ones were SUPER easy & were both at the surface, the bottom two had to be cut out. Dr. Silva was super nice & made me feel extremely comfortable, couldn't have asked for anyone better. Next, they gave me 4 Novocaine shots (that was the only part that hurt) & put the laughing gas mask on. The laughing gas made me feel tingly & relaxed, it felt kinda cool actually. The two top teeth didn't hurt at all, I actually felt like pressure was released after they took the two top ones out. The bottom two were not as easy, they had to first cut the gum, then they had to drill into the tooth in order to crack it and take out the pieces one by one. The sound of the drill was not very pleasant, but I guess the only way to fix that is to be knocked out, which I didn't want to do. Also the sound of my teeth cracking was disgusting! The whole procedure only took like an hour (maybe a little less), not too bad at all. They gave me all of the necessary things to keep my mouth clean & wrote me a prescription for vicodin & antibiotics. The only thing that was not so pleasant was paying for the procedure, it definitely wasn't chump change. Part of the reason is, because my insurance only covered half, so it was my own fault for going out of network. Anyway, I would highly recommend Dr. Silva, she even called me two hours after the procedure to see how I was doing! read more

I can't say enough about Dr. Silva. I was able to get a next day appointment after incredible pain and two wisdom teeth that started to come out. The procedure was super smooth and painless, and Dr. Silva and her team walked me through all the costing, different kinds of sedation and all the things I could/should expect prior to the work being done - I had all four wisdom teeth removed plus an extra back molar that had been totally destroyed by an impacted wisdom tooth. Unfortunately, five days after the procedure, I got dreaded dry socket, which has nothing to do with the quality of the work, just a risk in healing. It started really hurting on Saturday evening, and even though it was labour day weekend, Dr. Silva still offered to let me come in super early on Sunday morning, she met me in the lobby and brought me up to the office and put in a dressing. I had two more follow up appointments and it's been smooth sailing. I almost never make Yelp reviews but definitely wanted to recommend. A potentially utterly miserable experience made completely bearable by Dr. Silva and her team. read more

Dr. Silva is an amazing oral surgeon. She has wonderful chair-side manners and always comes into the room with a bright smile. She's obviously very knowledgeable and good at what she does. She has a soft touch with teeth, which makes a huge difference. I had all my wisdom teeth removed by her and it was a great experience (as great as getting your teeth removed can be). Before the procedure, I watched a video on wisdom teeth removal in the office. Dr. Silva then explained the x-ray of my teeth and told me about how she will remove them. She told me about the things that she will be very careful about (e.g. avoiding the nerves). I opted to get 2 removed at a time so I could still semi-eat with the other half of my mouth. Each time took about 30min. Other than the initial lidocaine injections, there was no pain whatsoever during the procedure. She personally called that evening to make sure that everything was okay. I really cannot say enough good things about her! read more

Dr. Silva is wonderful! I was referred by my new dentist who thought my wisdom teeth should probably come out ... Dr. Silva's x-ray confirmed it. She went through the entire process with me beforehand and made sure I understood what she was going to do, what the dangers were, how much it would cost, and how much my dental insurance would probably cover. I opted for the local anesthesia w/ laughing gas, and the experience was as positive as you could imagine when someone is pulling teeth out of your mouth. I do remember at one point she said "Ok, it's time to get the dynamite out" -- and I couldn't help but laugh -- while she was cracking a tooth into pieces with some plier-like tool. I'm pretty sure being able to laugh during the cracking of teeth marks a great oral surgeon! She was kind enough to call my prescriptions in before the operation, so I was able to swing by Safeway on the way home and pick up my meds without a wait. She called me that evening to make sure everything was going fine, and I was back up and at work in two days or so. A week or two later I came back and she pulled the remaining stitches out and I was good as new (better, even!). read more

Dr. Silva has the perfect bedside manner - she's very patient, encouraging, and helps explain every detail in a process so that you know what's going on and what you're getting into. She laid out all the costs beforehand and gave me confidence on what she thought the surgery would be like. She seems incredibly confident and relaxed, while keeping me as comfortable as possible. I had four teeth removed with local anesthesia. The anesthesia injections at first stung a bit, and then the weird pressure and crackling from some of the tooth removals was creepy, but otherwise the procedure didn't hurt and was pretty complication free! Got a recommendation to see Dr. Tom from my co-workers but he was not available. I was scheduled with Dr Silva and I am so glad I she did my extraction. I had and abscess under my root canal and she got that bad boy out no problem. They numb you up really good and try to make it as pain free as possible. Admissions folks were great too. I am out of network and they called my insurance to see what they covered and got back to me right away with the figures. I really am sensitive when it comes to dentists but going with Dr. Silva made it ok and I was not expecting that. Highly recommend her. read more

In one word... Amazing!! I know for a dental surgeon that doesn't sound right... Yet it's nothing but the truth. So I've been putting of my wisdom teeth extraction for almost 15 years... No kidding. Unfortunately you can live in denial only for so long and my dentist made it extremely clear that I absolutely had to have my wisdom teeth removed sooner than later. She referred me to 2 surgeons that were not covered by my insurance, so I took it on myself to find the right doctor for me. After checking out the fancy websites of a bunch of dental surgeons with colgate-like smiles who literally looked like they had just escaped from a no-name dental school, after reading hundreds of Yelp reviews that made it clear that even the highest rated dentists could still screw up pretty bad, I ran into Dr. Silva's entry. I click on the link to her website to find a normal website, with a normal pic of someone who doesn't look like a freak and most importantly who has a ton of experience. So I decided to give it a shot. Her office is pretty nice, nothing flashy but it's nice and clean and the staff is super nice too. Dr. Silva gave me the initial consultation explaining the risks of my surgery and how she would perform it. She never pushed for the $500 sedation and never influenced me in picking one type of anesthesia over the other. On a side note she was also a really really nice lady who made me feel comfortable trusting her. Ultimately I went with the local anesthesia. Make no mistake, I've had better experiences than feeling all the pushing and the pulling in my mouth, but I was never in pain and the whole thing lasted less than 30 minutes. The whole time she explained to me what she was doing and kept cheering me up because clearly I was a little bit nervous! She called me the evening after the surgery to make sure I was OK, which is really nice too. She prescribed some antibiotics and painkillers... 3 days after the extraction I still haven't touched the Vicodin because I've never been in pain following the surgery. I followed all of Dr. SIlva's hygiene instruction, took some rest during the week-end and used some ice packs just as she recommended and as a result pain and healing haven't been an issue. Honestly I'm glad I found Dr. Silva and if I ever had to have more dental work done (hopefully never), I wouldn't hesitate going back to her. She's just awesome!! read more

I'm going to be 33 years old next week. I've been fighting dentists for over a decade about removing my wisdom teeth (and I've won because I've never really haaaaad to have them taken out). I've had 2 grow in on their own, and let me tell you, teething is NOT for adults (so freaking painful; I'm talking sleepless weeks of torture). Finally, when the 3rd tooth began moving, I knew I didn't have it in me to make it through another round. Plus, this time, it was an upper tooth, and even though it hadn't even broken the skin, it was already messing up my jaw and causing an infection (sore throat, fever, swollen glands, headache). The moral of the story: I caved. It was time to get those suckers taken out once and for all. Let me say (especially for all of you on team hold-out, from which I just defected), it really wasn't that bad, and I wish I'd done it sooner. But I'm POSITIVE that a big reason why I can say that is because I was in such good hands, and had such compassionate care throughout my procedure. Dr Silva is amazing. She is an incredibly kind woman, and her experience (check her bio!) shows in every aspect of her care--from her patience, to her super-steady hands--you just feel so reassured, and that's so important when you've walked into the office terrified. She explained everything about the procedure to me very thoroughly and we went through all my options and the implications of each one. Dr Silva in no way tried to "push" me to have anything done in particular, and, in fact, she was originally thinking of only removing the minimum number of teeth (the one that was causing the infection and so much pain that led me to her office), and offered that could I just come back in the future if the other ones were to give me any trouble (irritation from not being able to keep them clean, tooth decay, gum irritation, etc.) As an older "extractee," (who paid attention to not just the video they showed me in the office, but also the one on the office website), I was a little worried that I might have some higher risks for complications, but Dr Silva showed me on my x-rays that the position of my teeth did not predispose me to nerve or sinus damage. With that welcome news, I was like "You know, it took me 15 years to get in here this time, let's just get it all done; I'd rather not wait for any other pain." Agreed. So as for the procedure itself, I used a little laughing gas at the beginning and she proceeded to numb me up. I should say here that the biggest factor that has stopped me from having this dang procedure in the past is the freaking needle on the novocaine! I'm really petrified of injections and Dr Silva was very gentle and careful and really tried to keep my nerves at ease as best she could, while also working quickly. Once that first layer of numbness kicked in and she was able to get to work, she checked in with me as she made her way through each tooth, giving me generous amounts more novocaine throughout the procedure to make sure I was not in any pain. I just kept my eyes closed the whole time. She talked to me throughout, and in doing so helped keep me as relaxed as possible, and let me know she was paying attention to my anxiety level, as well as my comfort level. She and her assistant also really helped pep-talk me through it; they were so great. The whole extraction process (3 teeth total) took less than an hour. There was some pretty terrifying drilling and pulling (none of which actually hurt, it just freaked me out and i could feel intense pressure), but I was so relieved to open my eyes finally on the other side of this procedure I've put off and dreaded for so long! Dr Silva gave me her phone number for over the weekend in case I have any concerns, and I even got a hug as I left! This personal touch really just says so much about Dr Silva's philosophy and practice. A hug goes a long way when you feel that "battered," and Dr Silva is more than an incredible professional, she has the warmth and intuition to know when someone could use some of these less technical healing tools. I also want to add that the receptionist and all the assistants (one who took my x-rays and showed me the video, and the other who was the hands-on assistant through the extraction) were all very kind, upbeat, and professional. Every little bit of this positive energy helps when you're somewhere you don't want to be for something you don't want to do! So if you're like me and are just putting off having your wisdom teeth pulled (or some other oral surgery) because you're freaked out, do yourself a favor by putting yourself in the best hands possible. This surgery wasn't fun by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't see how it could have gone more smoothly. I have never gotten my wisdom teeth out, they grew in fine. But then a few weeks ago I had a problem with one of them because a filling fell out of it, and now I was stuck with a broken tooth. My dentist told me that I should just get the tooth removed. My dentist actually tried to pull the tooth but wasn't able to. I was flared up after that and by the time I had my appointment with Dr. Silva, I was ready to get this tooth out! But I was still nervous. I had a great experience with Dr. Silva. I was nervous about getting my wisdom tooth out. She did an excellent job. I barely felt a thing. I didn't even need laughing gas. It took her maybe 5 minutes to do it. I was so surprised and happy. She explained everything she was doing and was so considerate and nice. I would recommend her to anyone that has to get a tooth removed. Excellent job!!! read more

Dr. Silva removed a molar that was impacted. I was very nervous about the procedure but she was very calming and did everything to ensure I felt no/little pain. I had to reschedule a big procedure because they gave me incorrect information.
