Everyone in the office is professional and friendly 2. Amazing view of the bay and Golden Gate bridge from your dental chair (if you're tall enough) 3. Lot's of positive reinforcement, ie, "you're doing a great job with your dental hygiene" (note: this only applies if you are in fact brushing and flossing) 4. Where to begin? I will try to accurately depict the situation so others can be aware. Very disappointed with my experience at this dentist. The view from the chair was great, the dental staff were pleasant and seem knowledgeable but will really screw you over when it comes to billing. I always asked for pre-authorization for any services done as my insurance should cover 100% of all preventative services and basic services including fillings. I get an email one day saying they haven't been able to reach me due to me recently getting a new phone number. I called them the same day. They told me they also have been sending me a bill in the mail but that maybe they had the incorrect address..I corrected the address they had (they had input it without the P.O. Box number). When I finally get the bill in the mail it has record of all these letters they've sent to me and now a new bill with added late fees. I never received any other bills and I'm assuming they were all returned to sender. I called to discuss, they said they did submit for pre-authorization and that my insurance company never answered/responded.... Which I was never told from the dentist. I later spoke with my insurance company who said they never received any request from them for pre-authorization. Also while speaking to the office assistant over the phone she said it's difficult when dealing with opencare patients! I asked why and her response was that they don't have all of our dental insurance information.. which is just completely false. The fillings didn't occur until my second visit and during my first visit I had to fill out all the normal new patient information and give them my insurance card/info...seemed just like a crappy excuse and trying to shift the blame to me and/or opencare. Will also be contacting opencare to explain the situation and hope they will remove this dentist from their site. The search continues for an honest and reputable dentist in the city. read more

The best dentist there is! I've had to have a lot of work done and have seen many different dentists throughout the years, and Dr. Guzman is hands-down the best there is! Extremely thorough and patient, explains everything, and does the best work for all of your dental needs. His staff is very friendly and welcoming. He and his staff go out of there way to help whenever possible. I find both Michelle & Angelica to be very pleasant, informative and lovely. They have never once in 10 years been rude to me, my family or any of the dozens of people I've referred to him over the years! If you want a great doctor who has great staff, this is the guy. I am big fan of Dr. Guzman. He is a quality dentist with a good focus on personal attention, patient care and comfort. I'm always amazed by how quickly my appointments seem to go, yet he gives a very thorough cleaning and check up. Dr. Guzman seems a bit more focused on complete oral care than previous dentists I've been to, spending a lot of time on the gums and entire mouth. This proved to be extremely worthwhile to me when he discovered a large and scary looking growth on my tongue that I'd never noticed. He urged a follow up with a specialist at UCSF, which fortunately showed it was nothing to worry about, but I could have gone YEARS without ever knowing it was there. Unlike a lot of dentists these days, he's big on the best solution for his patients, even if it's not the best thing for him personally. For example, I asked about whitening recently and he suggested that plain old Crest Strips would be more than fine for my needs. Selling a few hundred dollars in whitening services would have been easy for him, but he's looking out for his patients and not himself. His staff is also tremendously friendly, and I'd gladly trade him for his 5-star bay view anytime! read more

I didn't even realize one could review a dentist on here until I saw a friend do it. Dr. Guzman is one of the most amazing human services professionals I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I spent a number of years under the general rubric of "service" and he absolutely should be teaching others how to do this. Walking into his office is an experience in being greeted well. Michelle meets you with a smiling face and then you are seated and wait for a very pleasant experience to begin. I know he chose that location because the view is great, and it's comforting, but that's icing on the cake with the way he handles himself. After all his good care, I was even rather excited that I was going to get a root canal. Of course, he referred me to a consummate professional who had me in and out of the chair in under 45 minutes, with a temporary tapped on ever so carefully, and the permanent was installed by Dr. Guzman a week or so later and I've never had trouble with it since. Even teeth cleaning is a delight. Dr. Guzman is gentle. He has a delicate touch. He could have been a surgeon. Or a Pianist. And his demeanor is calming and quiet and he brings an aura of almost "zen" to the whole affair. I'm not exaggerating. I don't like dentists, they scare the holy whatsis out of me....but no more. I will come back from Thailand just to see this man. Seriously. Check him out. read more

He is an amazing dentist. I am perhaps one of the worst dental patients ever to walk the face of the planet. Dr. Guzman puts your mind at ease immediately. He talks you through everything (Ok Lauren, now I'm putting the mirror in your mouth to take a look at your molars. Now I'm going to take this instrument and tap on this tooth. Nobody comes CLOSE to the quality care Dr. Guzman and his amazing team provide. Plus tomorrow I'm going to a rooftop party thrown by my Dr. Guzman! if you told me your going to a party thrown by your dentist, I would judge you, but Guzman is amazing and his team is 2nd to none, plus there office is on the top floor overlooking the golden gate bridge ;-) From start to finish - My wife got lucky and found Mr. Guzman, she's dealt with dental issues for a few years and would typically come back from the dentist in a bad mood, but after Guzman things were different, she came home as if she just had champagne with some friends. Before Guzman I was at a dentist that my company and google both contract out so I assumed it would be good, the routines were pretty painful, they would just load you up with medication and be done. I later found out during a deep cleaning they did, they left a lot behind... Then I finally went to Dr. Guzman, his staff was amazing and made you feel at home plus I challenge you to find a dentist with as good of a view. His office is amazing, all of the tools were top notch from the wireless x-ray machine to the cameras to the dyson fans ;-) (big dyson fan) Dr. Guzman took his time and explained everything he was doing, which was both stress relieving and interesting! He has a very calm relaxing voice that puts you at ease. I've been numbed up (needle in gums) probably 10 ten times and I can't imagine going anywhere again after Dr. Guzman numbed me up, it was painless, the man stuck a needle in the top of my mouth and some how it was painless! After one of the fillings my jaw was sore (I'm a giant baby) and I called to see what to do, they told me to come in, Dr. Guzman checked me out, made me a custom mouth guard and wrote a prescription to help, he didn't charge me, and made me feel like the only patient there despite there being a lot of patients and I came in with 30 min notice. Today I had a lump on the top of my mouth that was very painful, I called, came in and he saw me, it was an interesting infection and he wanted to make sure I was okay. He took x-rays and photos without charging me a dime (at least me a dime, maybe insurance...). This infection required a specific oral surgeon, his team spent over 30 minutes calling every specialist they personally knew to get me an appt as fast as they could (above and beyond). As it would be it was already late in the evening and nobody could see me till the next day. Dr. Guzman went and called in other Dentists in the building to find ways to make sure I didn't go home in pain or worried. Dr. Guzman didn't have to do any of this, he could have charged me $1000 for an emergency visit and then just referred me out, and I wouldn't have felt bad if he did, thats the industry, except Dr. Guzman is different, and I never thought I'd say this about a dentist, but he truly cares. His team I've seen other dental teams and they are at best tolerable, Guzman struck gold - Gisela is a calm sweet reassuring woman, her confidence puts you at ease no matter how much pain your in. Christina is great at explaining everything! she'll break down the plan and payments as if she worked for the insurance company as well, plus if your there in the evening, she might start playing some backstreet boys and Nsync! Samantha is a great DA! she takes her job very seriously and Guzman and her just seem to really sync, be sure to ask her about her dog ;-) read more

Was referred to Dr. Guzman from a co-worker who knew I was having a hard time finding a dentist to replace my NY dentist when I moved to SF. Couldn't be more thrilled with the recommendation. Dr. Guzman is an amazing dentist, professional, qualified, friendly, does fantastic work - have never had any issues with the cavities he's filled, bonding for chipped tooth, teeth cleaning from his hygienist, or any other procedure performed in his office. Also really cool that he checks not just your teeth, but also rest of face and neck for potential issues while you are there; can never have too many people checking for tumors lol. I have been taken care of by Dr. Guzman for probably almost 10 years! Recently he made changes and I have to say, that I like them. At first, I was like, "hey, I came to you in the first place because the reviews said that he does the teeth cleaning." But, the truth is, he can see more patients if he invests in really good staff, so I accepted that nothing is constant except change. And, low and behold, I really like Mary! She is the first hygienist to get me to floss!! She understood what timing might work for me, so I floss in the car (with those 1-handed contraptions that I bought for $2.99 at the grocery store) and I have done it 4 times since my visit a few weeks ago!! Ok, that is not every day, but that is a BIG TIME first!! His office is beautiful and he is very gentle, kind and honest. I had a girlfriend for a few years that had HORRIBLE teeth and was very, very afraid of the dentist. Dr. Guzman was so kind to her, that she almost looked forward to coming to him! I've been a patient of Dr. Guzman's for about 3 years. While it's never pleasant to endure a dental procedure, it is pleasant going to this dental office. I have found Dr. Guzman thorough, thoughtful, pragmatic and gentle. He will recommend waiting or doing the minimal amount of work necessary, if warranted. Since I'm a chicken about pain, he makes sure I'm sufficiently numb and will check in regularly throughout the procedure. What is most amazing is the quality of the office team he has assembled. Mary is a wonderful hygienist, Christina is so helpful with navigating insurance, and Gisela is so organized with scheduling. Does YOUR dentist host a catered rooftop party to watch the Blue Angels?

For more than a decade, Dr. Guzman has been professional and I thought very honest. More recently, he has implemented a routine X-ray policy. When asked about his policy via email, there was no response. He then refused to schedule a cleaning appointment without routine X-rays, yet refused to explain the policy for treatment until after his vacation (but wanted to do the X-rays without an explanation). The ADA does not recommend yearly routine X-rays. Seems odd that a dentist would. If you can't explain your policy, people might question it. Sad that such a nice, competent dentist seems to be more concerned with money. Sadly, his hygienist Mary is also the very best. So, so disappointed after all of the recommendations to his office and all these years of service :(. read more

It is very rare to hear someone describe their trip to the dentist as a pleasant experience. Who in their right mind would describe someone drilling a cavity a pleasant experience? However, the experience I had today with Dr. Guzman can be described as pleasant or maybe even mildly wonderful. I have been procrastinating about getting a cavity filled for the past year. It got so bad the past three weeks that it was painful when I was eating. I actually got to the point where i would only chew food on one side of my mouth. I was convinced that I needed a root canal or some god awful procedure. This morning I finally called Dr. Guzman's office after I felt some pain trying to chew on some soggy Rasin Bran. I called their office with panic voice "You gotta help me, I need to get an appointment as soon as possible." I was hoping that they would have something next month. The receptionist told me that they could see me at 2:15. She even knew some of my colleagues. I go into their office on Union and feel like I just walked into a plastic surgeons office. Seriously, best view of any dentist office in the city. I will put money on it. Girls at the desk are cute and very outgoing. They had up to date magazines. I did not see any Highlights magazines (little bummed about that). Paperwork was a cinch. Knew my insurance plan. Within 10 minutes I was in the chair talking to Dr. Guzman. This is a big point with me. I am usually stuck with a dental assistant for the first 45 minutes and then briefly speak to the dentist. Dr. Guzman was by my side the whole time explaining exactly what he was doing. He went thru the procedure step by step and then numbed my jaw. After cleaning my teeth he tested out the cavity and asked if I felt pressure or pain. It was a little pinch. I told him. I felt like I could be open and honest with the man. He suggested some more numb juice and I didn't feel a thing the rest of the appointment. I thought that the worst part would be the drill. Nope. The dude has a TV screen loaded up on the ceiling for your viewing pleasure. As I watched a segment on ESPN called "Notre Dame's 2007 football team could be the worst in the history of the school." he was drilling away. I watched every single highlight from week 3 of the 2007 college football season while my teeth were getting drilled. Greatness! read more

Not one bit concerned about loyalty and patients with their own business. I am still in shock that they have zero compassion for people who work for a living. This dentist's office is the most unprofessional place I've been too. Michelle, the receptionist is extremely unhelpful and rude. She called to find what my coverage is with BlueShield and got the wrong information from someone. Months later I got a letter from BlueShield saying that none of my service were covered. The dentist gave me a 50% discount on the amount owed, so I give him one star for that... but I take away four stars for the condescending tone of communication and the complete lack of desire to help me resolve the problem with BlueShield! read more

If additional services or procedures are recommended, there's no pressure, just the facts about why they may be helpful for good dental health. All of the equipment is very modern, and over 10 years I can't think of a single instance of being in pain at Dr. Guzman's office. He's never hurried and always follows the cleaning with a thorough check of the mouth for anything of concern and a short discussion about anything to keep an eye on or care for differently. I was very impressed by the job Dr. Guzman did for me. Over the holidays I cracked a tooth and needed a crown. Grrr. Michelle helped get me into the office quickly and I was so grateful they were even open (my other dentist's office was closed for the holidays). Dr. Guzman is excellent at explaining your situation and also gives you a heads up on exactly what he is doing which I appreciate. Michelle laid down the nitty gritty of expenses but they were helpful in offering a more digestible payment plan than one lump sum. My wife and I were patients of Dr. Guzman for 12 years (until early 2015). We found him and his dental staff to be incredibly skilled and profession. My wife and I did not experience a single issue with any of the dental care we received during our time as patients. To top it off, his office is located in a great location with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay, and the Marin Headlands. But the most important fact is that Dr. Guzman as an A-1 good guy. Some of his services can be on the pricey side but if you have the insurance or the funds to cover it then he's well worth it. read more

This review is for me first visit to Dr. Guzman back in February. To be clear, he was very professional, friendly, and the office view is stunning. I visited him because I had previously been seeing the dentist my mother worked for (she's a retired dental hygienist) for 20 years, but he's in Marin and Dr. Guzman was much closer to home/work for me. What I came out with from my cleaning was a suggested list of procedures that he said needed to be done that would have totaled more than $2,000 to my insurance company and more than $300 for me. Given that my mother was a hygienist for more than 40 years, it goes without saying that dental hygiene was paramount to may family growing up. I have not needed more than a single cavity filled since I was 14 years old. Now all of a sudden I need six fillings after having a cleaning with my previous dentist just six months prior. Additionally I showed the suggested work order to my mother, and according to her the amount Dr. Guzman claims to be "writing off"is very deceptive (I don't fully understand it since I don't have much experience with insurance companies). According to her he's trying to make it look like he's giving patients a discount, when he's not. I trust her. Again, he was friendly, professional, and I'm sure he does great work. But he has to cover the exorbitant rent he must be paying for that location somehow, and our opinion is that he's doing that by doing unnecessary work on his patients. read more
